This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was very pleased with Fairune 2. As others have said, it can be fairly easy to get stuck in the later areas in particular, but I never felt like that detracted from the game much. Usually the hints were fairly obvious, I just wasn't paying enough attention.

Fortunately, they also got the message that if you're going to change game genres for the ending, you should make it fairly easy. This end feels more like a reward than a punishing "we don't know what to do/we always wanted to do this" like the first game had.

Overall, I am very pleased with Fairune 2. It kept all of the great elements of the original, extended them quite a bit, and made the end feel much more satisfying.

Fans of the original will need to pick this up, because, while it offers more of the same, it actually offers a much more extensive campaign. For those seeking an RPG on a budget, and one that tickles their 8-bit itch, then look no further than Fairune 2.

Compared to the original, Fairune 2's highs are higher, but the lows are lower, proving that bigger isn't always better. [Issue #25 – January/February 2017, p.20]

Fairune 2 is a sequel that follows its predecessor on all the right tracks, keeping what made the original a pleasant experiences and extending its lifespan. What works for some might not work for all, though, and for players looking for something more groundbreaking than the original this will not deliver, which does not mean that its creative combat system and rich audiovisual component will fall short of the players' expectations, because it won't.
