This game is decent, but it feels like missed potential. In this incredibly short detective game, you play as a character who, alongside his assistant, is trying to solve an old criminal case. There are elements here that reminded me of the fantastic Ace Attorney series (investigating and talking to witnesses is quite similar to that series), and there are some fairly memorable characters. This game is decent, but it feels like missed potential. There are elements here that reminded me of the fantastic Ace Attorney series (investigating and talking to witnesses is quite similar to that series), and there are some fairly memorable characters. The artwork throughout the game is also done quite well.

Still, the good gameplay is ultimately quite brief; I completed the game in under 2 hours. It feels like this had the potential to be a great visual novel and rival to the likes of Ace Attorney, but said potential seems unused to me.

I wish I could give it a higher score, but it is ultimately too brief (with a story that isn't as fleshed-out as much as I would like) for me to give it anything higher than a 5.

This game is 90 minutes long and the gameplay is so simplistic and barebones even for a VN standard. The price for this game isn't worth it. You will beat it on one setting then realize you could have spent those $6 on something more valuable. Not to mention the whole thing ends on a cliffhanger, trying to become an episodic release. Awesome game, Art is good, history is excelent, is very bad what this game was a very short but, is a really good game underrated, but, well, Hotel Dusk and The last Window was better

Chase: Cold Case Investigations - Distant Memories
I paid €3 or something, it's so long ago Nintendo has no record of my transaction anymore. Worst spent money ever.
The story finishes before it even starts, about 2 hours maximum.
I'd rather pay 10 times the money for 10 times the gameplay.
    AVOID!!

Even being a $10 (or slightly cheaper with a MyNintendo discount) eShop title, there is simply not enough quantity or quality to justify a purchase – Chase tries its best to make the two-hour trek a grind. The characters are merely nothing more than hollow vessels for driving the plot forward. It is totally disappointing that there is no thrill or cognitive challenge to the game – this is one investigation not worth chasing.

A mediocre Phoenix Wright wannabe with a story resembling poor police documentaries/reality shows on TV. [01/2017, p.74]

As a first installment in a planned episodic series, it leaves a bit to be desired. [Issue #25 – January/February 2017, p.21]
