It comes together with a gruesome though excellent ending that some will find difficult to shake.- St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The film is flat and lazy, and the audio mix is so low it sounds as if the audience is barely laughing. His cable comedy specials have better production values.- St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Long before the blood starts spilling, it’s clear the new team has mostly nailed it. The reboot is as good a Carrie remake as possible, though it’s not truly a scary movie; the film takes its time living up to its R rating.- St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Don't be late to this homecoming of director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson's horror series, which begins with a twisty opening sequence that's bloody fun.- St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Like the first movie The Purge: Anarchy, is trash masking as social commentary, and its depiction of unrelenting, sanctioned violence can be hard to stomach.- St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Overreaching fits of melodrama, occasionally stilted dialogue, and performances by Gooding Jr. and Howard that are mostly a series of serious faces can't keep the shiny Red Tails from taking flight.- St. Louis Post-Dispatch

During a summer with the usual transforming robots and young wizards, this chilly flick is a bit of a break, and there are worse options than letting this Orphan in the door.- St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Director Rick Famuyiwa did much better when focusing just on African-American culture in films such as "Brown Sugar" and "The Wood." Here, in bringing together two cultures, he does neither any favors.- St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The Forest is flawed on so many levels. It’s a tiresome bore, and the story is filtered through white characters when an Asian lead could have carried the movie just fine.- St. Louis Post-Dispatch

This send-up of current horror movies is a go-for-broke hoot, a hot mess of a comedy that doesn’t have a lick of sense. And knowing that going in adds to the often knee-slapping laughs.- St. Louis Post-Dispatch
