After Meowth lights the fuse Ash and Squirtle try to put it out, but they do not make it in time. The explosion causes Ash, Pikachu, and Team Rocket to all fall into an underground cave. The cave is home to the ancient pokémon Kabuto, Kabutops, Omanyte, and Omastar. The four quickly attack them, but the real threat is on its way.
