Anima: Gate of Memories I&II Remaster seems to very much be two games of their time. It has fun built in, but the world of third person action adventures has moved on since the original releases of the two games included in this remaster.

Citadel: Forged with Fire on the Xbox One doesn’t get off to the best of starts, throwing you in at the deep end with nothing to cling onto. The tutorial does a terrible job of explaining anything, even causing you to re-assign many of the buttons on the controller. But it’s worth sticking with. Figure out what you’re supposed to do and the game becomes a delightful sandbox for you to become the mage you were born to be.

I am self-aware enough to know that mindless cozy game players are a niche within a niche. Very few players will enjoy Trash Goblin in the same manner as I did. Because it is too repetitious for its own good. It doesn’t reward the player for their time with glittery new mechanics. But if you have lost hours to Stardew Valley in the past then maybe, just maybe, you will get something from Trash Goblin.

Enjoyable with a good sense of story, characters, and some sharp writing, Afterdream keeps its suspense tight amid horror elements that are more fun than horrific.

The game has solid combat, interesting character creations, and the potential to grow into so much more. The only thing that inhibits it from gaining a higher rating is the fact that it is so barren.

Bloodshore is a good back-to-form entry for Wales Interactive. It's a bloodsoaked, campy thrill ride that mixes a brilliant combination of reality TV show with Battle Royale hijinks. The script is cheesy at times, but at other moments well observed - but at all points the story flows at a brilliantly fast rate.

Thief Simulator 2 may take you by surprise. The gameplay premise and thieving mechanic are good and a lot of fun. Should you like stealthy experiences then you should have a blast with this, enjoying the wacky world it employs.

Horror fans will love Lunacy: Saint Rhodes. If you’re curious, this house is worth a visit.

Generally, it’s a case of more of the same with World War Z - GOTY Edition on Xbox One. There’s nothing here that will win over new fans, but it is a decent offering to keep existing ones entertained, even if they might be left wanting more.

My advice when you start Motorslice is to be prepared to get annoyed. You will die a lot and repeat sections again and again, but there is a lot of good in this game, even when the mechanics don’t work quite as smoothly as they should.

‘Ultra’ is probably overstating it, but any lover of Contra, Mega-Man and Metal Slug will find plenty of value from their purchase of Ultracore.

There's a lot to like about Bananitro and it would be good to see more in the future. The components are all there, but the execution falters at times, resulting in an experience which regularly swings from being good fun, to feeling like a chore.

Beyond the litany of issues raised in this review, Mining Rail 2 on the Xbox One nails the most important thing: fun. And for that reason alone, it’s an enjoyable game. It is laughably bad in places, and offensive to the ears, but completing the tasks and aiming for the safe station against the clock is undoubtedly a lot of fun.

While the combat may not be super engaging, and the story is a bad egg, the gorgeous world of The Falconeer on Xbox is a triumph. Paired with the spectacular music and breathtaking feeling of flight, this game provides what feels like an exceptional concept rather than a complete game.

The Wardrobe: Even Better Edition is only really worth your consideration if you’re happy to seek help to progress because the solutions are utterly ridiculous. As long as that’s the case, then there are great locations full of nostalgia just begging to be seen. The characters within are undoubtedly intriguing and, in a silly way, it’s funny on occasion too. Granted, the main story needs work, but the sub-plots are pretty good and keep things ticking over.

Woodle Tree 2: Deluxe+ on Xbox One is as wholesome and serviceable a platformer as they come. If you have already exhausted the many stronger alternatives available on Xbox One, then this woodsy adventure might be worth a look, and it won’t set you back too much either.

It is fair to say that there is a lot to love about Daymare: 1998 on Xbox One. Its gameplay is decent, the puzzles are solid and the writing is, for the most part, strong. There is a lot for people to delve into, especially in terms of the lore which makes replaying it a second time interesting. Unfortunately, the overall experience is brought down by glitches, odd design choices and overall jankiness.

Dune: Spice Wars is a satisfying 4X game, but it is not without its issues. The controls are the only real stumbling block, but the biggest problem I have is in the sheer complexity of the systems

Kitten Hero isn’t particularly impressive, but gets it right for the most part. The fact that cats are front and centre, may just make it stand out a little more in a crowded market.

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a solid and enjoyable remake of a Harvest Moon classic. Yet while you get to enjoy a classic experience intact, it also feels incredibly dated given the other options available on Xbox today.

The Sims 4 Get Famous DLC on Xbox One appears to have seemingly added more of the same as with previous expansions, such as a new location, new customisation options and new careers, and not much else, however the inclusion of this Fame system offers a new target to aim for.

Give Sektori a chance and it may well grab you. But no matter whether it does or not, there is no doubt this is good for a short blast. Of course, some may crave more than noise and spectacle in their games, but while Sektori provides both, the deeper gameplay loop is just not there.

The looks and soundtrack are really interesting and the mind testing puzzles are a delight to attempt. The humour of the English Inventor tackling space travel, but still needing the perfect cup of tea in the process, amused me a great deal, and whilst I do think you will have a ball with a friend in local co-op, the single player is still fun.

I feel like a game (any game) should have an element of skill to make it more than a random number generator, and honestly that is what Overrogue occasionally feels like.

There’s no doubt that War Hospital will have you considering the heroic medical teams of the time, inspired to think more about the support units in war time. But as a game, it’s hard to want to play through that experience.

Vampire's Fall: Origins on Xbox One is a rather deceptive game. Like the vampire itself, Vampire's Fall: Origins is dark and brutal, but it also outstays its welcome pretty quickly.

Crystal Ortha on Xbox One is one of the better KEMCO games of recent times. It’s a long way from groundbreaking, but has enough nice touches, and some decent puzzles, that make it worth playing. The story is good, most of the characters are endearing, and as such it’s an easy game to recommend to the JRPG fans out there.

Modern Tales: Age of Invention does a good job of supplying a point-and-click hidden object adventure that provides an interesting narrative, plenty of puzzles to get stuck into and a decent selection of scenes to scour for items within. The only real problem is that it doesn’t deliver anything innovative and instead lacks in fresh ideas.

I’m of the opinion that you should score a game for the audience it’s made for, and Trollhunters: Defenders of Arcadia on Xbox One is a pre-teen game that delivers on what its audience wants. It’s a brisk romp through all of the best characters and locations in the game, with barely a hiccup along the way. What it sacrifices in complexity or any kind of innovation, it gains in player-friendliness and an adventure that - for the kids in this house, anyway - will make them want to hack, slash and jump all the way to the end.
