The 15 Worst Movies of 2021
Above are the lowest-scoring films released in the United States between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 4 reviews are excluded. All scores are from December 24, 2021.
(#4) Yet another generic action thriller in a list already dominated by them, Redemption Day comes from yet another producer turned first-time director—in this case, Morocco native Hicham Hajji (whose production credits include the acclaimed French TV series The Bureau). It's also yet another takeoff on the John Wick/Taken formula (minus any of those films' high points). Gary Dourdan plays a Marine who returns home from a tour of duty only to be forced back into action when his wife is taken hostage.
“There’s not a thrill to be found in this ostensible thriller, a rote kidnapping exercise taped together with digital blood spatter and an overly dramatic score, vaguely gesturing at global crises from five years ago.” —Katie Walsh, Chicago Tribune
