10 Films to See in February
The shortest month of the year is typically an uninspiring one at the cineplex. But this February is not without its intriguing releases, including a well-reviewed new horror film from Key & Peele's Jordan Peele, one of the best documentaries in recent memory, the year's only Polish vampire musical (so far), an Oscar-nominated animated tale, and sequels to recent successes like John Wick and The LEGO Movie.
Another apocalyptic zombie movie might not be what’s needed in popular culture right now, but this adaptation of M.R. Carey’s novel could have enough memorable characters (and scares) to lure more than just genre fans. Taking place at a base in rural England, the movie imagines a near future where only a small group of children are immune to a fungal disease that turns humans into flesh eating “hungries." But one little girl in particular, Melanie (Sennia Nanua), might be the key to saving the world. When the base is breached, Melanie escapes with her teacher (Gemma Arterton), a sergeant (Paddy Considine), and a single-minded researcher (Glenn Close).
