The Borg is about as relentless a foe as you get in Star Trek. And the threat of their powers is very real here, coming after they have already assimilated Capt. Picard once (in the TV series). The Borg, combined with time travel and Earth’s future at stake (again), yielded a thoroughly engrossing and sure-handed film.
