Released in 2019, the first Shazam! was one of the few critical bright spots for DC properties between Christopher Nolan’s Batman films and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, but now comes the hard part: making a sequel that works. Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 failed to recapture the magic of 2017’s Wonder Woman, so now David F. Sandberg will give it a try as Billy Baston/Shazam (Asher Angel/Zachary Levi) and his foster family face off against the daughters of Atlas, played by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler.
