Movie debuts March 4 on Showtime
The highly anticipated second feature from video essayist/director Kogonada (whose 2017 debut Columbus earned raves from critics) debuted at last year's Cannes Film Festival to widespread praise and also just collected the Alfred P. Sloan Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Now, it gets a simultaneous theatrical and Showtime release, and it could be 2022's best sci-fi film. The futuristic domestic drama finds a family set adrift when their daughter’s companion—an android named Yang—malfunctions. Colin Farrell plays the father whose search for a way to repair Yang leads him to reconnect with his wife (Jodie Turner-Smith) and adopted daughter (Malea Emma Tjandrawidjajazu), and the result, while deliberately paced, is "moving," "soulful," and both "effortlessly cerebral and deeply emotional," according to reviewers.
The far from prolific Kogonada actually has a second project (Pachinko) launching this month as well, which we'll get to in a moment.
