Writer-director Davy Chou’s third feature, following Golden Slumbers and Diamond Island, follows 25-year-old adoptee Freddie (Park Ji-Min, making her acting debut) as she impulsively travels from France, where she was raised, to her birthplace of South Korea. Over eight years, she searches for her identity but each time someone tries to define her she changes, willfully pushing away anyone who thinks they know her. Appearing on several year-end top ten lists for 2022 (when the film first appeared in theaters during a brief qualifying run) and nominated for Best International Feature at the the Film Independent Spirit Awards, it’s a unique cinematic experience full of surprises.
