Every Coen Brothers Movie, Ranked
Joel and Ethan Coen’s 17th movie, Hail, Caesar!, was recently released, and—SHOCKER—it’s getting pretty darn good reviews. So good that it’s one of their 10 best films, according to top critics. And that got us thinking, “What is the best Coen brothers flick ever?”
Now, using Metacritic’s unique scoring system, we’ve found the answer to that very question.
Some of these rankings might be downright surprising. (We’re talking to you, Big Lebowski fans.) But more importantly, which classic Coen brothers flick made it to No. 1?
This thriller from the Coen brothers is pretty damned intense. While it has some signature Coen humor, No Country for Old Men is a deep, dark tale of a drug deal gone wrong. Javier Bardem’s portrayal of the ruthless hitman, Anton Chigurh, is unforgettably bone-chilling.
"If watching movie violence is cathartic, then this film amounts to heavy therapy. It's much more than that, however. This is the best film the Coen brothers have done since their glory days of Fargo and The Big Lebowski, maybe the best they've done, period." —Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal
