The 20 Best New TV Shows of 2022 So Far
Which newcomers on the small screen have impressed reviewers the most during the first half of the year? In the gallery on this page, we rank the highest-scoring first-year TV shows (including limited series and specials) debuting between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022. Only shows with at least 7 reviews from professional critics are included.
One of several British imports on this list (it's a co-production between the BBC and Amazon), this six-episode psychological thriller from writer/producer/director Alice Seabright (Sex Education) stars Erin Doherty (The Crown's Princess Anne) as Becky, a young woman who lives with her mom and works a series of temp jobs. She's also obsessed with the Instagram account of the titular Chloe (Poppy Gilbert) and her seemingly perfect life. When the latter suddenly (and mysteriously) dies, Becky seeks answers, and her investigation finds her adopting a new persona and attempting to infiltrate Chloe's group of real-life friends.
“Chloe is very much a thriller for our time, and our near future, because it’s like a preview of Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook 'Metaverse' – intriguing, repulsive and thrilling in equal measure, and something you really do need to see.” —Sean O'Grady, The Independent
