Nominated for six Oscars including best picture—it won for original song and for Daniel Kaluuya's "supporting" performance—Shaka King's 1960s-set biopic recounts the real-life events involving a criminal turned informant (played by Lakeith Stanfield, also nominated for an Oscar) who helps the FBI attempt to take down the head of the Black Panthers, Fred Hampton (Kaluuya). Ryan Coogler is among the producers, and the script originated in a story by the Lucas Brothers, who shared a writing nomination with King and Will Berson. If you missed the film during its one-month run on HBO Max in February, note that it was recently re-added to that streaming service and should be there for a while.
