Fernanda Valadez's devastating debut, which played in virtual cinemas in January after impressing at Sundance a year earlier, looks at the casualties of Mexico's drug war and rampant institutional corruption through the eyes of several characters, most notably a mother (Mercedes Hernández) desperately trying to locate her young son, who had attempted to migrate to the United States but has gone missing.
