Original: Gowanus, Brooklyn (2004), directed by Ryan Fleck
Ryan Gosling received his first Oscar nomination for his starring role as a coke-snorting middle school teacher in the debut feature from the duo of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The film is an expansion of the pair's own 19-minute short (basically the first act of what would become Half Nelson), which won the Jury Prize at Sundance two years earlier.
