Drama/sci-fi series debuts April 28 on Prime Video
An ambitious, globetrotting action-spy series from Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame), Citadel will eventually include multiple interconnected series, including an Italian series followed by another set in India. The flagship series which launches on the 28th with two episodes is set in a world eight years after Manticore, a shadowy Illuminati-esque syndicate that is attempting to manipulate world events, has brought down Citadel, a global independent spy agency that aimed to preserve international order and safety. A few Citadel agents managed to escape, their memories wiped, but are now reactivated to thwart Manticore's newest plot. Stanley Tucci, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Lesley Manville, and Richard Madden head the cast.
It's not quite The Rings of Power expensive, but it's awfully close—to the point where Citadel might be the second-most expensive TV show in history, though reshoots necessitated by creative disagreements are partially to blame. Those creative differences also caused writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec and director Brian Kirk to depart the series and found the Russos taking a more active role in the production. (Also brought on for the reshoots was writer David Weil, the creator of Amazon's Hunters.) That may not suggest good things to come, but Amazon recently renewed Citadel for a second season despite its costs and problematic production.
