Ryûsuke Hamaguchi's sophomore feature finally makes its way into American theaters this month. For this feature originally released in Japan in 2008, the writer-director behind Drive My Car, Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy, Asako I & II, and Happy Hour focuses on a couple (Aoba Kawai and Ryuta Okamoto) who announce their engagement resulting in the revelation of a prior infidelity. Hamaguchi’s ability to subtly and intricately delve into the lives of his characters is on full display even in this early film.
