French writer-director Rebecca Zlotowski’s follow-up to An Easy Girl stars Virginie Efira as Rachel, a 40-year-old high school teacher who finds herself in a relationship with Ali (Roschdy Zem), the divorced father of 4-year-old Lelia. From this setup, Zlotowski spins a realistic and compassionate story led by Efira’s sparkling performance as she reveals Rachel’s desire to be a mother and part of a family despite the complications that come along with the presence of Ali’s ex-wife Alice (Chiara Mastroanni).
