All of the worries have subsided with Wonder Woman. Patty Jenkins is able to succesful juggle different movie genres into one co herant and amazing film. Think part ancient greek epic, romantic comedy, action war movie but it all meshes very well.

Gal Gadot simply kicks ass. Her actions scenes were awesome, Chris Pine does good job of holding his own and not being reduced to a male damsel in distress. Wonder Woman fish out of water and being naive is very much in essence to the comics when she first encounters mans world. Seeing as the screenplay is written by Comic Book Writer who wrote Wonder Woman comics, the faithfulness to source material is evident. A great Super Hero movie that DC needed.

Metacritic should reset user scores because most of the positive are stuffed. Movie was very mediocre. Better than BvS but fails as a super hero movie with subpar actresses like Gal Gadot.

For meI am a huge fan of the Marvel Movies, but quite frankly DC has left me kind of tepid or luke warm on their past movies in the super hero realm. I went to see "Wonder Woman" with mediocre expectations and got totally blown away. For me growing up with Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman on TV it was going to take some doing for me to get that blown away feeling. Well I got a nuke dropped on me, because DC finally lives up to all the hype it got on this one. Gal Gadot is the new "Wonder Woman" and leaves all the rest from the past in her dust. She is simply amazing along with the story, the characters, villains, and visual effects. Even along the way I heard chuckle's and laughter as little one liners and good humor was sprinkled in. The movie had that all along with a little romance and deep feelings thrown in. Even the side kicks for Steve Trevor were colorful and well done. I really enjoyed "The Chief" played by Eugene Brave Rock, he made a comment to Wonder Woman in the movie about the war, and what it was destroying and said his people were destroyed by Steve Trevor meaning the white man a long time ago. Lots of thought went into the script dialogue and this is DC's crowning jewel for Wonder Woman and women in general. Wonder Woman isn't just the princess anymore as now she is the reigning Queen of the DC superhero flicks!! Expand

Just have to add my two cents -- Wonder Woman is a beautiful film, and so much more than just a 'superhero' movie.

The cinematography was fantastic, the script/storyline a classic tale set in an interesting time period, and the actors brought to life these characters in a believable and moving way (a film made by less capable directorial hands and cast would not have been so concretely realized).

I won't pick at the storyline or offer spoilers -- I really think everyone and anyone who wants to see what will undoubtedly become a cinema classic in the adventure/action genre should see this! This was an impressive film, and emotionally touching in addition to thrilling to watch!

If you are a fan of the comics - definitely see the movie!

If you are not a comics fan - I still say you should see the movie.

And for those bringing their children - I know that I would have loved to see this movie as a child (I'd say 10 years old might be a good age). This might be too forceful for younger children - unless you (the parent) are there to comfort them.

Let me add that Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman = AMAZING! She brings heart and beauty to the role. Gal is beautiful and I am very satisfied with her believability and portrayal of Diana, Princess of Amazons...and dare I say, Demi-Goddess of Peace, the Warrior-Heart-Spirit, and Integrity (Sometimes you have to kick ass to bring about Peace!).

To any of the negative nancies out there complaining about Gal Gadot's body or height -- I'd like to see how YOU look in Wonder Woman's costume! Yeah, that's what I thought.

Riding high on its constructive thematic messages of egalitarianism, care-based ethics, and empathy's importance in all forms of human interaction, this movie has a lot to say, and it delivers it these messages with affable poise and little to no derision. Also, this movie simply kicks ass. I've been waiting to see Diana Of Themyscira kick teeth in on the big screen since I was a wee lad. And, boy, does this movie deliver on that front. So much so that I was left nearly salivating for more after that "Directed by Patty Jenkins" credit smacked me in the face at the end of it all. Gal Gadot is a revelation and a star in the making. Chris Pine is about as likable as a character can get. And the villains - though decidedly weaker than most DC offerings - get the job done for me. Here's hoping that WB recognizes this as the watershed moment it is and uses it to course correct for future endeavors.

Well done, Diana. Well done.

DC has finally made a decent movie for its DCU! Yes, you heard me right! Wonder Woman didn’t suck! Unlike that abomination that that Zack Snyder called BvS, which was an union between a bad batman movie, a **** superman movie and a justice league youtube trailer, Wonder Woman was a proper, decently directed and well written movie. Gal Gadot didnt particularly impressed me with her acting but I thought she was sufficiently compelling here as a out of place, naïve innocent Diana, who just wanted to save mankind by ridding the world of some pure evil. And she got what it took to look determined, confident and hot af from her training as a model. Yes, I would dare say that shes even hotter than Scarlett Johansen’s Black Widow.

Wonder Woman was so powerful, the only way to hurt her is through her belief and the movie did a decent job at poking the chink in her armor. Compared to movie Superman, apart from his obvious weakness to kryptonite, the villains can easily hurt him through kidnapping the helpless ones he loved, Lois and freakin Martha. Steve was a capable spy and soldier, which was showcased in many situations during the run time. Diana’s character growth came in the form of better understanding human kind through war, the dark side of humanity, and the cruelty of reality. Steve Trevor represented everything why human beings deserved Wonder Woman as their savior contrary to what Dianas mother wanted her to believe. Steve himself was a super hero without super power as he taught Diana the beauty of human kind. Much of the conflict between Diana and Steve rose from their difference in pursuing good and righteousness. And in turn, he taught Diana how he was willing to do evil things to do good. He was a silent hero capable of defending himself and what he believed in, when he showed his courage to lead a hopeless suicidal mission without taking any credit. Steve was a great counterpart that helped Diana to understand and grow. The scene of him high up in the air and flash back worked so well because of how well done his character was.
I enjoyed the music quite much. So far I think DC is better at making original soundtracks than Marvel. I mean, do you remember any music from Iron Man or Avengers? DC has the OP Hans Zimmer for the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy and this catchy Wonder Woman tone that was introduced in BvS. When you hear it, you know Dianas gonna do some cool **** There are many moments when they subtly play it in the movie too if you pay attention to it.

The management of time and pacing could be a lot better. There are obviously some bad reshoots which they tried to edit in… Hopping back down with the sword from the roof… The movie had some great action moments but suffered from what most action movies are overusing these days… slow freakin mo… a lot of the action takes would be better if played in normal speed or even sped up. I really didn’t like Dianas slow ascension up the ladder with all those close ups… The final fight seemed a bit lazy too.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Interesting how things change. Here I am giving a pretty big deal movie, Wonder Woman, that I was counting on being really good or amazing, a 6. She's a women. It's in your face, but I found the real star of the season bearing the XX chromosome to be Katherine Awesome Waterston of Alien. This doesn't mean I found Diane to be weak or too stoic. Her reactions to our early modern world were pretty cute and funny. Chris Pine is perfectly cast(turns out "casted is not right) and doesn't feel like a re-tread of Kirk. Those two make for a great definition of actor chemistry(Even if super cute Carey Mulligan doesn't believe in that) Take the infectious comedy of the first half and the tower-smashing action scene and this is a really good satisfying movie. But the final battle doesn't come close to the unbelievably amazing Doomsday fight of Batman and Superman. Ares's old British persona doesn't work for me as an adversary. And when he carves out the openings of his helmet in a disconcertingly generic fantasy armor, it's done out of reverence(I was going to say "preference")to his old Zeus battling days rather than out of necessity. Plus floating in the air with telekinetic powers doesn't add up to rough and emotional combat. This, along with it's flurries to a triumphant and pg-13 seen-it-a-million-times tone, comedy dragging the tension down, and stupidly elbow-leaning(that's what I did when I was let down; you know, leaning your elbow on the cup holder, fist to cheek? I was gonna say cringe-inducing but that's regulated to any broadcasted, video game focused event i.e.game awards) Greek mythological back-story do a effective job of dragging the movie down. This all seems very Marvel inspired and I'd be curious as to how the re-shuffling of Warner bro's DC executives might've added to this, but it is likely those parts were already in place before the awful reception of Bat&Sup. While I do feel positive about a good deal of this movie, it's shortcomings leave me with a bad taste in my mouth(unlike that vanilla ice cream) and drag down down my regards for the DC movie universe. But hopefully not enough to stop me from enjoying my 3rd re-watch of the standout title.Lets hope Wonder Woman's different way of doing things doesn't continue with Justice League. But maybe I should've seen this coming. After all, this wasn't directed by Zack Snyder, managing only the role as producer and story writer(apparently their's a difference between being a writer and doing the story). This makes me feel a little bit better about the state of Justice League. Indeed, with the truck and the out of character happy message;(I got a giggle out of seeing a super heroine use something as familiar as gmail)I miss Batman. Now for Pirates of The(seeing it to hear the music)Caribbean. Expand

Wonder Woman is captivatingly funny, astonishingly beautiful, wonderfully immersive, magically empowering, and charismatically spectacular to watch. This is the first superhero film directed by a woman and even starred a woman on the big screen. The woman that directed Wonder Woman knows how to make this movie very entertaining and more thought-provoking like no other. The action sequences, performances, and special effects were very well executed after seeing this film. She made this movie very organic that pays a homage to Richard Donner's Superman movies and it has the same exact feel as you watch Wonder Woman in action. It is easy to say that Wonder Woman is a MUST WATCH if you're looking for a good movie to watch with your sidekick or family member to have a wonderful time seeing Wonder Woman. I'm hopeful that there's a sequel in the works to see what Diana Prince is up to before or after the events of Justice League. Overall, this movie is wonderfully enjoyable and it's really hopeful that you watch it. Expand

I had high hopes for this movie. The trailers were very good (although all of the DCEU's trailer were good), Gal Gadot, one of the best things about Batman v Superman, was Wonder Woman, and it was getting good reviews from critics! I mean, it had all the ingredients to make a wonderful super salad. However, when I walked out I was shocked at how wrong I was. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the movie was good. Particularly towards the beginning where she is with Chris Pine (Hearthrob, and Captain in the Star Trek movies) on their way to London. Some character setting, fight sequences, some funny moments later, we get to the part of the movie where it drags down. SHe finds the "Bad guy", only to (spoiler alert) find out its not the bad guy, which you would guess halfway through the movie. Then, oh God, then the awful emalgamation know as the "ending" to this movie begins. The CGI, throughout the movie, was spotty at best, but here it is just... it looks like it could've come from a 2008 movie. And also the villain reveal was just stupid, out of all the potential people it could've been, it was THAT GUY? So the ending aside, there is one more sin this movie committed. THE MUSIC. Man, was it just generic and boring, overdramatic as well. You literally could've grabbed this music, and place it on any, and I mean ANY, Marvel movie. Also, I feel as though they could've chosen a better war, like World War 2, to set it in. There was a clear definition of who was good and who was bad in this movie, and in World War 1, there truly was no good or bad guys. It was just a bunch of people fighting each other for no good reason other than a guy, a guy who no one really liked in the first place, being assassinated. But, that is just a matter of opinion, and as such, it will not affect this review significantly. In conclusion, this movie was pretty good at first, and had a lot going for it, but then the end, just absolutely destroyed the movie for me, as well as the orchestra. Oh, and can you spell cliche? If you want to see a good movie, I'd wait for some other superhero movies, or maybe see that new horror movie "It Comes at Night." Thank you for your time in reading this, and I hope to see you in the next review. Expand

That said, I was relieved to discover that the film is quite good. Not perfect, and I could see some of the flaws that many of the critics pointed out. Yet these flaws were utterly eclipsed by the films stronger points.

Gadot is certainly new to acting and has little experience, yet it would seem that Snyder and Jenkins have found the perfect fit for the titular character. She plays Wonder Woman as simultaneously strong, confident, naive and vulnerable - a difficult tap dance at the best of times. And while it would have been so easy to emasculate Chris Pine on screen, Jenkins makes the conscious choice not to make Steve Trevor neither a weakling nor a dude in distress. Pine's wry, war weary and cynical Steve Trevor is a good foil for Diana's optimism and hopefulness. The chemistry between Pine and Gadot is excellent and the budding romance is handled with great subtly and finesse. And more marvelous than that, is the decision to not hide Gadot's Israeli accent and ask all the other Amazons to mimic it in their own way. Speaking of which, if there is one point that isn't explored enough, it's the Amazons. Connie Nielsen does regal so effortlessly as Hippolyta while Robin Wright plays the bad ass General Antiope so wonderfully that they are both a joy to watch. I would have liked to see more of Themiscyra and more of Amazons but then this is an action film about Diana after all.

I will admit that the visual effects were not as great as they could have been, especially in the third act. Yet all too many movies fall into the classic Hollywood trap of substituting substance with fireworks. I would also admit that the villains are not fleshed out enough and their motives and characters are hardly ever explored. Yet here too other films of the genre rarely manage to present better villains. I can also understand the repeated criticism that this film failed to rise above the limitations of the comic book genre, especially since it certainly had the potential for it. Yet as a comic book movie fan, I will admit that I still have the same expectations that many of my fellows have - which make the third act ultimately necessary. A sequel is certainly in order and hopefully Jenkins will return to helm along with Gadot. Given that this film has been compared to Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger, we can perhaps expect Wonder Woman 2 to be just as successful as its sequels and transcend the limitations of the genre in a way that this film could not and still be a box office hit at the same time. It certainly has a firm foundation to build upon now.

-Clear turning point for the DC Cinematic Universe.
-You can still notice Snyder's colour palette from the second act onwards. However, due to Diana being presented as such a doubtless character, without any of the dread and anguish that brought the most recent itineration of Superman down, the film does not feel dreadful at all. In fact, the chear optimism and attitude of Diana justafixed to such a colour scheme create a good balance. -It suffers from the same problem as every single Marvel film where Loki isn't present: the villains are forgettable and one dimensional. Which is kind of a let down, given that they seem like excelent raw material, like diamonds in the rough. -The CGI is, at times, very poor. Add to that a ton of stones and gravel fling by, and some of the action scenes fall shorter of what they could be. -The jokes were all well placed and never felt forced. Props to "fish out of water" jokes never geting tiresome. -Regarding to the "feminist" aspect of it, I have to say I was impressed. Never did Diana try to preach the ideia that woman are men's equals in the cliche "we can all do the same things!" kind of way. Instead, whenever she is presented to a situation where she's advised to "let a man take care of it", she just brushs it off for one simple reason: she sees herself as man; not in the sense of having male genitalia but rather of being a member of manking.
-It managed to touch greater topics, even if only ever so slightly, mainly the actual nature of man's evil.
-The character development for Steve and Diana is very well achieved. -All in all, i'ts a great pocporn film.

The DCEU has been a hit and miss so far (Man of Steel was the only great one, BvS was good but had loads of issues and SS was quite bad). Luckily Wonder Woman isn't just good comic movie, it is one of the greats. It is a great origin story, the characters by themselves and with each other are believable and natural, the social commentary the film portrays applies magnificently to the world we live in now. The message the film shows is nothing short of outstanding, sometimes we need an Alien like mentality to truly understand the beauty and the evil of mankind, which Wonder Woman tells brilliantly.

The most commendable aspect of the film is its avoidance of obvious 'girl power'. The film easily could of gone down the route of bashing Men and praising Women but it didn't. They have empowered Wonder Woman without the need of constantly mentioning her gender. Either way this is the best DC movie since The Dark Knight, hopefully the Justice League can match the bar that WW has set.

NO MAN'S LAND was an amazing scene.

It presents a story which, while not perfect in a narrative sense, doesn't fall prey to the all to common Hollywood penchant for politically correct virtue signalling. This is quite a feat, because if ever there was source material rip for feminist exploitation it is Wonder Woman. So I was quite pleasantly surprised to see a heroine both strong, and noble but also unmistakably feminine in all the ways that so infuriate third wave feminists. And that's glorious.

Gadot nails it, ably supported by a strong male cast who complement her without being diminished by her. Very well balanced.

The story itself is enjoyable - though there are some pacing issues and the finale is somewhat overblown and lengthy. All in all - a good experience and a heroine everyone can get behind. And that's important.

The story was great at its best, Gal Gadot was perfect as Wonder Woman and thank goodness we finally have a bright and colorful DCEU movie! The action sequences were pretty enjoyable. The only issue i have with the movie is the 3rd act. I mean, yeah, you'll understand what's happening, but it's the CG that almost ruins this climactic finale, even though (true story) i wanted to clap at the end of the final battle, but i didn't because the rest of the audience was silently watching it. But in the end,Wonder Woman could be the start of the revolution for the DCEU,with some great acting,a solid story and some (quite) impressive CG.It sure is the start of a great revolution... However, the unexpectedI was already starting to lose my patience with the DC Universe films and their continuous lack of quality and fun, especially when compared to Marvel, and therefore had no intention or desire to check this film out. However, the unexpected high acclaim and positive reviews the film started receiving was what ultimately swayed me to give this film a chance. Unfortunately, I'd have to disagree with the majority and say that this film is just like the rest of the DC films, lacking in quality and fun. Sure it didn't feel quite as brooding and serious as most of the others, but that doesn't change the fact that the story felt very formulaic and "been there, done that" from other superhero films, and Gal Gadot (whom I considered to be quite miscast for the role to begin with when she made her debut in the also abysmal Batman v. Superman last year) delivered what I felt to be an unimpressive and wooden performance. Add on top of that some really ridiculous-looking CGI (especially in the film's final battle with the villain), as well as plenty of explosions to go around, and there you have it. Overall, this movie has further assured me that I likely won't be bothering to check out the Justice League film when it comes out later this year, let alone any other DC films if I can help it. They're all the same to me and just no fun. Expand

Chemistry between the two main characters is palpable. Gal and Chris are great choices for this movie actually. It doesn't feel forced. Only part that was underwhelming and deserves some criticism is the last 30 min. Thats the only reason this movie is a 8/10 instead of 9/10. Movie turned the last act into a complete action montage which would be great otherwise but seemed to rely too heavily on CGI and was longer than it should have been. Other than that small critique, the rest of the movie is very tastefully done and i want to go watch it again in IMAX to get my fill lol

MASTERPIECE!! This is one of the VERY BEST superhero movies EVER. Another hit in a year full of GREAT movies. I RECCOMEND THIS MOVIE TO EVERYONE!! It's that good. And yes, children can acutaly see it, as opposed to the last 2 DC movies.

At first I had my doubts, because of the mild dissapointment of Batman v Superman (I didn't completely hate it, but didn't care much about it) and the ultra big dissapointment of Suicide Squad, but after seeing the good reviews I decided to go watch it. AND NOW I WANT TO WATCH IT AGAIN. The movie leaves you with a very good feeling, it's fresh, fun, has a good message (I think the whole world needs to receive this message right now), and Gal Gadot... congratulations o the PERFECT performance you gave. And Patty Jenkins, congratulations for your great directing.

Oh, and the action sequences are amazing too :D funny how the action was really great and it wasn't even the best part.

All in all, a big win for everyone involved: the makers, DC, and we as the audience... even Marvel, who now has some REAL competition, so they must raise their already high standards even higher (can't wait to see that! :D). This movie really left me feeling very happy and those are the kind of movies that I love :).

Name me a good superhero movie with a female lead. Having trouble? Well look no further now you have one. The story starts off well, giving you all the intro you need, it also isn’t afraid to take some surprisingly dark turns but more importantly Gal Gadot completely owns the role. She’s perfect for Wonder Woman and you can clearly see that because let’s face it you couldn’t tell from her cameo in Batman V Superman. It was a very good idea to hand this over to Patty Jenkins so I’m relieved to say I liked it. Not loved, it’s good but maybe not as good as it could have been. I’m willing to overlook the use of slow motion I’m even going to overlook the unnecessary jokes about “ooh your sword totally doesn’t go with your dress.” But unfortunately I can’t overlook the last 20 minutes. The biggest problem with Wonder Woman is a superhero movie is only as good as its villain and unfortunately this is one of DCs worst. It was very disheartening to see this film descend into a very sloppy ending, the story practically giving up. All the work around gods and war completely undone. Meanwhile you have a villain spouting every cringey bad guy line from every movie you can think of, all while surrounded by lots fire and explosions. Yawn. A disappointing end to an otherwise great movie but of course I’ll recommend it because it’s enjoyable, entertaining and you’ll just love Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Expand

You know how the Batman and Superman films completely missed the points of the characters and what they're supposed to stand for? You know how all the acting and dialog was clunky? How the plot made no sense?

Yeah, reverse all that. It's AMAZING. They totally 100% get her character. This is, hands down, the best portrayal of her character I've ever seen. Cartoons and comics included. She goes with the flow, but isn't afraid to just do what she wants if she thinks you're being unreasonable. She is an amazing fighter, but also incredibly strong, and most importantly driven by her innate compassion.

The characters are all fleshed out realistically. It takes time to flesh out even some of the side characters when you least expect it. The characters all react pretty realistically to their scenarios they find themselves in. There is not a single scene that does not belong there, and you always understand exactly what is happening and why (unless the film intentionally doesn't want you too).

IT'S A GREAT MOVIE. I can't believe I'm saying this, but yes. Hell yes. It's right up there with some of the best solo marvel films like Ant Man and Iron Man, and better than a lot of marvel films, but not all of them.

It is exactly what we all wanted, when we need it, how we needed it.

Training montage, death of a close person to the protagonist, the usual "join me, humans are not equal to us", and even some actual humors (No, there was absolutely no real humor in the previous 3 DCEU movies)!

But boy did it work so well! The villain and the sidekicks might be a bit forgettable, but this movie will be the one remembered for the one that probably single-handedly changed general public's perception of DCEU. After the just OK Man of Steel and the less-than-mediocre duo of BvS and Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman is the one that we sorely needed.

The jokes felt forced and more cringe worthy than anything. Yeah she's an amazon but let her get beat up a bit. Look at games like the new Tomb Raiders to see how a female protagonist should really be done. Gritty and unforgiving, Laura from the movie Logan had more depth than this piece of crap. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In a world where men rule the Super hero franchise Patty Jenkins shows that woman can make an excellent movie that is different from the standard super hero movies. Patty Jenkins was able to bring a new breath into the DCEU franchise by giving it a new hope. Gal Gaddot embraces the role of Wonder Woman and proves that woman can have as much fun as male superheroes. Her optimism to save every single person she meets in the war is inspiring and is also grounded by her foil Steve Trevor played by Chris Pine. Pine was an excellent foil to Diana grounding her and reminding her sometimes people just do bad things because they are just simply bad. From the opening scene to the end I was 100% attached and this movie has become my favorite DC movie besides the Dark Knight Trilogy. Even though I really enjoyed this movie there were a few things that I didn't like. The CGI was very noticeable especially in the beginning of the film. Must of the time I would be so into the story and then CGI would appear and it took me out and thought "ehh that didn't really look that good". The other part I didn't like was the villains, without going into spoilers, the villains fall for the normal underdeveloped characters like in all super hero movies, Marvel and Dc both fall from this. Also the third act was a little messy but not to bad. At the end of the day this was a really good movie and I believe not matter what fanboy you are Marvel or DC everyone should check this movie out, because this is an achievement for woman everyone and it is also a very well made movie. That is why I am giving it a 9/10 Expand

It is, straight out, the best film of the 20 super-shared-continuity tentpoles of the past decade. The innovation: tell an interesting human story, with well observed moments about rounded characters. The care extends to the action sequences which are interesting to watch and carry emotional weight, not simply relying on manic editing.

Great casting across the board. Real actors, committed to a role (not merely slumming for a paycheck), and met halfway by a screenwriter, can work wonders for a genre film. (See: the collected work of Patrick Stewart) Robin Penn Wright is a standout as an early mentor, but all the supporting parts are well drawn. Gadot and Pin work exceptionally well together. We've never seen super/sidekick relationship done this well before in the movies.

Why is the movie good rather than great? It's downfall is the inevitable lifeless "climax shapped" third act CGI slugfest that inflicts the modern comic movie. If you ask someone about the best moment from the end of a recents supers movie, most people will struggle to recall anything other than the post-credits shawarma scene from the Avengers. It is likely that this is a failure attributable to the (not altogether unreasonable) cowardness of contemporary film executives in the face of budgets of 100s of millions of dollars. It is certainly not attributable to the action movie form itself. Each of the Star Wars films, for example, ended on a remarkable action sequence with real emotion stakes, each of which capped the emotional journey of the protagonist.

But if Wonder Woman, with all its strengths, can't quite overcome the boat anchor tacked to the end of a modern franchise flick, it does inject a few twists to redeem it. The director makes a rough, but serviceable landing in the face of the overwhelming headwinds of the form, showing a possible way forward beyond merely ending on a joke filled set piece ala Guardians and Avengers. Hopefully the film will be a great success, and the director will be given the latitude to make a great sequel.

It's one of those rare comic book movies that transcends the genre to bring us something fresh and new, while still embracing the traditions of old-school Hollywood. Patty Jenkins' direction is pitch-perfect, miraculously balancing huge action blowouts with tender and poignant character moments. Gal Gadot is an absolute delight and surprise in the lead role, perfectly embodying the character while never once giving even a glimpse of hatred or vengeance, no matter how dismal the impressively and respectfully realized World War 1 setting gets. Gadot and Jenkins never once sexually objectifies the character, even while embracing her earthy sensuality and championing her sex-positivity. It's a testament to Gadot's on-screen presence and Jenkins' magnanimous direction that Chris Pine, in one of his best performances and a master class of sly charm, neither steals focus nor devolves into a generic side-kick. The supporting cast is uniformly wonderful, with every character feeling fully realized and memorable. The inquisitive tenderness Gadot shares with her ragtag band of brothers in the more personal moments is a true highlight to the film, adding up to an exploration of the duality of humanity: the ugliness and the hope, the anger and the grace, the doubt and the determination. I saw this movie with my 68-year-old mother and we both left the theater feeling inspired and captivated, hugging each other through the tears. Unlike other recent comic book movies, Wonder Woman doesn't feel like it's made just for hardcore fans, teenage boys or people with very unique sensibilities. Though this is without a doubt a movie with a powerfully specific vision, the appeal is truly universal. There's very little in the way of the overbearing fan service, Easter Eggs and sequel-baiting that has become de rigueur with modern-day big-budget studio fare. You've got to respect Patty Jenkins, Allan Heinberg, Geoff Johns and all involved with the crafting of the story for their faith in the source material and their respect for the audience. The production values are uniformly fantastic without being too showy. Lindy Hemming's period/fantasy costumes are marvels to behold, rich with detail and texture. The score is appropriately anthemic and well-utilized. The cinematography embraces both vivid colors and murky shadows. The special effects never overwhelm the actors or the action, even in the slightly chaotic, but efficiently staged, final showdown. I can't recommend this movie enough. Superhero fans will be thrilled to see Wonder Woman join the pantheon of truly great comic book movies, while those who don't like the genre or previous DC films will feel embraced. I can't wait to see it again. It's that rare sort of movie that will entertain you and help you escape the problems of the world while you're watching it, while also helping you find the courage and strength to face our challenges with love and truth after the credits have rolled. The world needs more love and truth these days. The world needs Wonder Woman. Expand

Finally, an excellent film for the DC universe that holds her own against others in the genre. This is a thoroughly enjoyable experience, with dynamic cinematography, solid pacing, delightful script, and engaging storyline, I was utterly charmed by this film which I had serious doubts about. Gadot is superb, and while she isn't quite the Amazonian I'd always pictured, her performance is exceptional, with the rest of the cast providing polished support. The action sequences are magnificent, though I wanted to be able to see more, and some moments are too frenetic to follow, which is occasionally frustrating. I particularly enjoyed the delicate balance between objectification and celebration that could have marred this film, and I was thoroughly impressed by the deft handling of what could have been an exercise in the male gaze, and instead revels in introducing the genesis story of a fiercely intelligent, powerful, awesome superhero. 9.01/10 Expand

Bunch of problems with this train wreck:
- It's dumb and exploitative on multiple levels to make a movie about a scantily clad sword-wielding woman helping to win World War 1
- We get it, the Amazons are all huge feminists dripping with contempt and disdain for men and Western civilization generally, what a fun and engaging concept for a movie
- "Doctor Poison"? Really?
- Could they not even get an American actress to play an American icon like Wonder Woman? The Israeli accent was a constant distraction
- Gal Gadot is cute, but as BvS proved she's not much of an actress. This is a woman who until just recently was best known for a throwaway eye candy role in Fast & Furious movies.
- The action scenes (super strong woman with shield fighting old timey soldiers) were very derivative of the original Captain America movie. With the superhero market so overstuffed these days it'd be nice to have some original visuals and action, but no dice.
- Chris Pine is totally unconvincing as a ladies' man. He's a decent actor but it's pretty clear (as it was in Star Trek) that he doesn't actually swing that way in reality.

Wonder Woman Spoiler Free Review:
When Man of steel arrived I was one of the few who liked it. It wasn't the Superman I had expected but I saw it as a film that was showing us how he had become the Superman we all knew and loved. I saw it as a series of lessons from his personal loss to his loss of innocence that would mold him into the man who would fight for Truth and Justice. Sadly I was wrong, and we ended up getting Batman Vs Superman with an even darker Batman than ever. I thought, surely they couldn't get any worse and then there was Suicide Squad. With two solid misses and one half sucess, I was not at all interested in another dive into the fetid pool that is the DC Cinematic Universe. I had come to the view that DC/WB made great trailers and honestly should stick to the short form work. So, when the first Wonder Woman trailer dropped I was like, 'well that's a pretty trailer' and went about my merry way.
Tonight I had an opportunity to see the film at no cost to myself so I figured, ' It would at least be worth the price of admission, right?' Heck, they even paid for drinks and popcorn, what was there to lose?
Lets start From a film making perspective. The first two acts are nearly flawless. Everything from the character development to the pacing is strong and well planned. The third act, while good, has a bit of the Snyder pacing and over use of CG issues that could have been fixed easily with a bit of editing but if you've seen the other films you'll be happy to know this one is considerably toned down. (And, hint hint, this one has a much better climax. No one named Martha involved. ;) )
The story is the origin story (with a twist of course) of who and what Wonder Woman is. Is she a woman? Yes. Is she a warrior? Yes. But who is she, what is her purpose in life? And in that, what is ours?
Wonder Woman is at its core is a story of finding ones place in a world not your own. It's not the 'fish out of water' story but more of a story about determining who you want to be in life. Do you follow the crowd and just watch out for yourself or do you stand up for something?
After seeing this film, I would have not been disappointed had I paid to see it. In fact, I kinda wish I had.
4 out of 5 stars. Good film. Will probably buy.

That being said, if it wasn't for Chris and Gal's chemistry and acting, it would have been a 5/10 to me. All the other characters were just boring caricatures with no soul. I found it was almost 2 separate movies in terms of look, I guess they needed to match the DCEU so far but the colours and humour made such a difference. Again, I found the only funny parts were between Chris and Gal, none of the other characters were funny even though they tried.

The action was great and then not, you get awesome scenes where you see her just look like a complete badass. I guess how you would expect a super human would look fighting regular people. There is a scene in a city where she runs through it and it's just great in all the outdoor scenes and then when they get indoor and close quarters they use too much slow motion and completely unrealistic movements. It's funny how a 130lb woman running through buildings and jumping up walls looks more believable than her just fighting 5 guys in a room.

Danny Huston and Elena Anaya were just ok and sometimes their lines and acting were really poor and bothered me a little bit. The main problem with the movie, in my opinion, is that a big part of the action scenes were spoiled by the trailers and tv spots. But it has been a problem with basically all Marvel and DC movies. Wonder Woman is a great film that reminds me a lot of Batman Begins: essentially, a wonderful beginning to the character, buoyed by a strong performance by Gal Gadot and her other supporting actors /actresses. Seeing her on screen is reminiscent of seeing the late Christoper Reeve as Superman back in 1979. She exudes both warmth and fierceness at the same time; an actress truly born to play this role. Having a female director also helps, creating a 'feminine' tone so different from any other comic book films out there. Is it the best? Obviously not, as Wonder Woman, like any comic book origin story, has to go through the same 'trials and tribulations' which we have seen so many times in the last decade or so. But it's a great start to the franchise and a life saver for the DC Extended Universe. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For large parts of this film, Wonder Woman is truly a 'beautiful' film made of love and care like its titular character. But sadly like most of its DCEU counterparts, Wonder Woman quickly degenerates into a rudderless shlock filled with CGI that looks like it came straight out of menstruation, film logic as irrational as a girl on her period and an abortion of a plot. Indeed, for much of the hype surrounding this film, sadly, Wonder Woman is not as 'wonderful' as one might think to have watched. Pros of the film:
-Acting is superb on most part of the film (apart from the over the top villains and bizzare accents (or lack of an accent on Chris Pine's part) for most of the cast tries to attempt). This is the first DCEU film I recall for a genuine connection to see. Gal Gadot is superb in this role and the scenes with her and Chris Pine are the standouts of the film.
-That said, the best parts of the film isn't the action nor villains, it is indeed the love that develops between Diana and Trevor which is both incredibly funny and heartwarming. I haven't seen this good chemistry since the last Superman Return film.
-There is real comedy here, unlike the **** SNL skit that was GOTG vol. 2. Characters actually speak logically and make sense in the jokes they make that because Wonder Woman is a naive character and thrust upon our immoral world.
- Some great camera work by the director. - Soundtrack was great. Although it is generic on most part, it actually complimented the scenes really well. - Pacing of the film actually is quite good. There's not really a lot of fat.
-Feminism done right. I know many people will get triggered about the word, but most people really never have studied feminism don't understand what it means. By what I mean feminism is that it isn't some **** of a girl harping how powerful she is or how equal they want, feminism is in fact a critical theory on the social norms we have. Why Wonder Woman is a great feminist film because this film actually asks good question. For example *SPOILERS*, in one scene, she questions why the generals all sit there and not fighting with the soldiers. In another scene, and rather poignant, she and Steve trevour are dancing in the snow and Steve recalls how marriage and life is pretty meaningless and how he doesn't even know if he will get married. For a while, these are the moments what makes Wonder Woman great and stand out as being just another popcorn flick. Now sadly, here are the bad points about this film, and there are many unfortunately. - Once they arrive to the front line, the film literally falls apart. The problem is that we never get a sense why they are there, apart from some dialogue about them either stopping the general-whats-his-name (played by Danny Huston) and Dr poison (but more like doctor dialogue) from signing a peace treaty or I don't know really. There's like a scene where she walks in front of the trench and then saves a village but we never really get a sense why and what etc. It's more like they just jam in these scenes because they literally ran out of ideas.
- Villains are rubbish. Sorry to Danny Huston, but he just bumbles his way in his performance and his presence is unconvincing and cumbersomely put together. Dr Poison is severly wasted as a character because apart from throwing a poison grenade in the scene we have all seen already, she does nothing apart from dialogue. When the 'real' villain comes up, he just appears suddenly so that we can have our 'climatic fight'
**** action. Again, if you like your action to be all in slow motion and where literally its just your heroes shooting faceless soliders - then yeah... Also the final fight is boring, explosions here and there, oh a villain with so many powers... yea just a mess. -Lazy film logic. My mate and I laughed out in one very lazy edited scene *Spoiler*. Basically Wonder woman stabs the general on top of the roof before encountering the other main villain. At this point she doenst have her sword (because she reaches for it). However, instead of showing her grab it, we basically cut to another scene briefly before the following scene shows her having it. It is laughlinly bad because the audience is led to believe the villain just stood there for her to go back up to get it before coming back down in the space of a shot. *Spoilers* Trevor also commits sucide at the end despite various ways he could've not blown the plane he was in carrying bomb ie landed the plane, dump the gas in ocean, jump off with parachute (assuming every fuking plane has parachute) or you know just blow up the plane. -The side characters are comedic relief at best. I love the french dude, but everyone else seems pointless and waste of screen time. You have a sniper character that never fires a single shot, and an american indian for no reason at all.
- CGI is **** There literally a scene early on where you see Robin Whyte character CGI on done by a 12 year old.
