Awesome movie. There are some overtly sexist parts but it's from a different time. There were way too many young men on the streets of London for war time.

I walked away from it feeling "meh" about the storyline. I just wish films like this could be rated R so that you can actually push the acting and narrative to its full potential. Wonder women is just another one of the pumped out super hero movies banking o. The success of toy purchases and family watered down storylines. It's become so generic and bland that I honestly don't get excited for marvel or D.C. movies anymore. Wait till it comes out to redbox and save your money! Expand

The only wonder here is 'I wonder who gave this the green light, I wonder who decided to spend $150 million on a film that has no redeemable features WHATSOEVER!'.

It’s difficult to decide which was worse, the plot, the script or the acting. Toward the end, one of the major characters kills themselves. I felt nothing, other than elation at being one step closer to the end of the movie. It’s right up there with Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad. DC now stands for Dud Cinema. Avoid. Don’t even watch when it’s on free to air TV. Never watch this film if you value your brain and believe that movies are an art form.

Not great: the CG, the environments, the first half of the movie, the second half of the movie, the third half of the movie...(it's long, and not in a good way), the realllly obvious plot twists

Good: Gal Gadot's face, Elena Anaya's face, Chris Pine's face, that one scene with Chris Pine where he says "F it, I'm doing some good acting for at least this one scene"

Gal Gadot did an excellent job portraying DC's lovable super heroine, Chris Pine also did an amazing job portraying Steve Trevor, as well as the many other actors portraying many of Wonder Woman's allies and enemies, such as Ares, Antiope, Hippolyta and more. (other than the fact that Ares had a pedo-stache and his skin didn't turn completely black when he transformed into his god-form-thing) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While I don't consider myself a movie critic by any means, I absolutely do consider myself to have a PHD on the character of "Wonder Woman". Since her comic book debut in 1941 til now there has been so many depictions of this iconic hero leading to her fame as "most popular female comic-book superhero of all time" So I will applaud Hollywood for at least picking an existing origin and storylines instead of creating their own. The Special effects are amazing, the cast and acting are brilliant. I would have liked Wonder Woman to be depicted as the greatest warrior of the Amazons instead of a demigod. This would have opened the storyline up to the absolute mandatory "Tournament Contest" where Diana would have won a physical competition to have the right to be able to leave Themyscira/Paradise Island with Steve Trevor. Along with the rewarded of "the lasso of truth and tiara" Diana's character in the movie just simply walks Steve out to an awaiting boat wearing this gear. Wait..what? Was this just laying around in her closet are we to assume then? This portion of the movie made zero sense and hopefully left the average Joe still wondering why her custom is red, white and blue? The amazonium gauntlets she wore should have also been worn by all the Amazons, not just Diana. This was omitted I'm sure to give Diana the appearance of being superior to lead to the demigod role, but only made the Amazon race appear weaker to me. Although the beach fight scene was the best and set the tone for the rest of the movie as well. So without this "Contest Tournament " element the movie the plot began falling apart for me.
Aspects that I truly appreciated was the combination of comic and television element from the in-depth creation story of being molded from clay to the Aries battle scene, these were picture perfect from the comic book. The tasting of ice cream for the first time and Steve Trevor's bad phone connection scenes coming right out of the "Wonder Woman TV series with Lynda Carter. All and all it was exacting what the average audience needed to be a summer time box office hit, I just wish a little bit more detail had been added for the comic book and Vintage TV fans. Some of which can still be corrected still in the most definite Wonder Woman 2. First call her Wonder Woman! She was referred to as Diana the entire movie not one time was the words "Wonder Woman" spoken on my count. An introduction or minimum reference to an invisible jet along with a most definite explanation of her anti-aging secret though the timeline.
Movie wow factor 10, plot & storyline a 6....so I rate an 8.

Yes, another superhero movie, and the titular heroine is not a minor one. WW made her first comics appearance in October 1941 and has been in publication almost continuously after that.
Constant reader has probably noticed that superhero movies are not my cup of tea, mostly because of lack of originality. So many of them are origin stories, like we really cared about how they came about. So many are shamelessly copying each other on grassroots level, especially 2001’s „Iron Man“ which established a blueprint that no one wants to deviate from. And I’m especially tired of big fights which are always consisting of flying through air and punching each other, destroying stuff in the process, including houses. How many times do I have to watch the same **** thing, year after year?
Having said that, I actually quite like the „Wonder Woman“ movie. It looks really good, old-fashioned in a good way, and the two leading stars are charming.
Chris Pine is effective as the new Indiana Jones era Harrison Ford the world has been waiting for. But most of the attention and praise goes to Gal Gadot as Diana.
She’s just wonderful indeed: beautiful, in good ass-kicking shape and also good at displaying subtle sense of humor which goes long way when the Amazon princess has to meet the modern world (during the World War I).
My biggest concern is the quite lenghty final chapter of the story where the bad guy comes into play. In this part of the movie one can’t deny anymore that the main character’s philosophy is shallow and underdeveloped even by the standards of Facebook Deep we live in.
And the final battle is, of course, as generic as they come in modern superhero movies, consisting mostly flying through air and punching each other, destroying stuff in the process.
Remember how Charlize Theron got an Oscar for 2003’s „Monster“? This is actually the director Patty Jenkins’s first movie job after that, in the meantime she has done mostly TV and this one anthology. Welcome back, great job!

This origin story starts on a secluded island where she lives among the Amazons. When a handsome spy crash lands (charmingly amusing Chris Pine), he brings the bleak reality of WWI, which motivates her to fight for peace. Gal Gadot is beautiful and vulnerable, yet tough in the title role. Perfect casting. Director Patty Jenkins has fashioned an adventure with strong visuals and beautifully stylized action. As with so many superhero flix, it could have been 30 minutes shorter. Also, the climactic battle fell back on the typical tropes of a tired superhero encounter. Still, it checks most of the boxes for a visually appealing and amply engaging superhero movie. Expand

'Wonder Woman' strikes an impressive balance between action and comedy, and it does so in a way that is distinctly geared towards female sensibilities--a true rarity in the genre.

Sure, there are times when the movie feels a bit campy. And the final sequence is less compelling than the rest of the film deserved. However, women are packing movie theaters in droves, which not only bodes well for this film, but forecasts a big return (and box office tallies) for the DC Universe in the years to come.

I knew the movie was gonna be good when it started getting great reviews from everyone, but I didn't expect this. Gal Gadot perfectly embodies Wonder Woman to a tee. She is so charismatic in this film and brings so much more to the character and the film. How can I forget about the wonderful chemistry between her and Chris Pine. Chris was perfectly cast and there dialogue between each other is so smooth and extremely funny/ meaningful. And Chris was extremely funny as well, hitting all the right moments. I absolutely loved the action scenes and you can definitely see it did have a little bit of Zack Snyder's slow mo-speed up action which I actually really enjoyed in this one, and was utilized very well. Every act progressively got better and better too, but I have to have some type of negative in this and it comes in the third act. The fight scene was really awesome, but I do think it relied a little too bit on CGI, which I was okay with, but was noticeable. i have not been this blown away by a DC movie since The Dark Knight in 2008, and i'm gonna say it this is the best DC movie since The Dark Knight in '08. This is a step in the right direction after the massive disappointments of Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman. I hope this can get DC back in the race with Marvel before it's too late. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's probably the best DC movie to date but falls flat on its face near the end. Gal Gadot works visually as Wonder Woman but, even though she gained 15 pounds of muscle, still doesn't have the body type of Wonder Woman. Think about the woman that were around her growing up, they were all very in shape. If she was being trained 5 times harder than them, and since there is no time said between her ageing transitions, you would have to expect that she would look somewhat like them; Jacked. I appreciate the 6 months Gal took to try and attain this image, I can only hope she continues to gain more and more muscle to become more in tune with her character. And for those of you that say "She was made by the gods" Gods typically make people in their image and Wonder Woman does have muscles. The only other aspect Gal lacks on when it comes to Wonder Woman is her fierceness, I don't really recall a time in the movie where Gal actually looked more than Mad, unless you count the CGI spaghetti lightning near the end of the movie. Continuity errors can take away from a film too, I am sure everyone realized that Ares still had a mustache during a flashback sequence. I am not sure if that is the actor refusing to shave or grow a beard, or the studio making a huge mistake. Either way, it added a bit of humour to an otherwise serious scene. There is also a complete lack of power measurement during the film, in one scene she struggles to hold back bullets with her shield and in another she is lifting a tank. Again I get that she is made by the gods in this film, but all humans are also made by the gods (if you caught that)

Enough about that, the film is definitely worth watching and is enjoyable! I just like leaving my 10 cents.

Where this movie succeeds is not only having bad ass action and good characters, but having real themes that make use of Wonder Women's powers and humanity's Great War. The film also doesn't shy away from using implied imaginary to get across its point as well.

The acting is amazing all around as well as the action. Everything looks great in the film, and it is a joy to watch.

If I had to name any flaws, I would say the action does use slow mo a bit too much. It is also a bit long, which didn't mind me because it used every minute in great fashion but it does go on for a while.

Wonder WomanGadot and Pine did a great job leading the cast and had great chemistry together. The soundtrack was also wonderful (no pun intended) because it did exactly what it was meant to do and that was bringing these scenes to life. Wonder Woman maybe a superhero film but it's also very grounded and I noticed that from the jump. Diana is shown humility early on and is shown training very hard to get to where she is at, She just didn't become this amazing warrior over night. I really liked that because it's rare to see in superhero films and it helped set the tone of the whole film.

My only complaint about Wonder Woman would be that the plot was very generic. I liked the story, There was a perfect blend of comedy and drama through out. It was just a bit too predictable. They played it a bit safe there and it does kind of annoy me but the journey to the end is the most important part and I liked the film enough to ignore the weak plot.

My biggest and highest praise is for Patty Jenkins, the director of this film. It's her first film since 2003 and she absolutely owned it. I truly feel she is the reason why this movie is good and I really hope DC and WB snatch her up for the sequel. She did an absolutely fantastic job with Wonder Woman.

She comes across a pilot named Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) as she has never seen a man before, and the two decide how to stick together. We spend most of the movie in London, during the war, as Steve tries to teach Diana how to fit in to the world, especially during the war, as Diana needs to understand human values in order to fit in. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine are fantastic leads for this movie and they share terrific chemistry. What makes 'Wonder Woman' work better than the three previous DCEU films is that it doesn't rely on fan-service moments, nor does it rely on referencing other DCEU films both previous and upcoming which means it's able to stand on its own, and the movie flows so well, it's just a well-made movie. Not just for comic book enthusiasts, which is why 'Logan' (2017) worked so well. 'Wonder Woman' is one of the best comic book movies out there, it's well-made, well-acted and thoroughly entertaining. Not to mention that this movie showcases the horrors of war, which is something that 'Captain America: The First Avenger' (2011) didn't do, though it did reference the horrors in later MCU films. All in all, 'Wonder Woman' is a worthy addition to the DCEU canon, and serves as a worthy competitor to the MCU franchise (which is still yet to make a generally bad movie according to critics). If you haven't seen 'Wonder Woman', and want a win for DC, this really is the movie for you. Go see it. Expand

One of the best movies I've watched and instantly became one of my faves. Gal Gadot now became my first favorite actress and will now gladly watch all of her past and future films. It tackles one of the most interesting concept that is usually used by many films but they portrayed it with so much heart. Chris Pine and Gal Gadot had such wonderful chemistry, and the acting was great! I wrote this review as short as possible so that I can watch it again for the 4th time, so toodles!
I rate this film a Gal Gadot out of a Gal Gadot!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It had Action, and Adventure just like in the DC comics Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Chris Pine as Steve Trevor both did a wonderful job.The story on the other hand some parts I liked where they explore the part of Wonder Woman character as a young girl who never seen the world and was introduced by a man who accidentally crashed a plain and was saved by Diana and encounter Army who try to invade the island of Warrior women fought them and won. Later on in the movie Diana finds out from Steve Travor that a Great War was happen which was WW1, and she wanted to be apart of that fight because she believe that Aries God of War was involved and wanted to stop it.Steve agree to take her and they go on an adventure the likes you never seen. What made the story disappointing the fact that Steve Travor dies in the movie, in the Comics he was always alive and well in the comics. The Special effects were average not that great but it work very well for that movie. The movie tells story in a 2 parts. The history of the character and the movie plot itself. The first part tells the story well and progresses in a natural tempo. However the second part does not quite match up where the firs part left off. Story line feels a bit forced. All in all it was an enjoyable movie. Actors - 7/10
Great cast with good charaters. No one seems out of place.

Gal Gadot - Wonderwoman 7/10
Have to talk about the main charater for herself. Gal is so stunning she captivates you in every scene. The fights are well performed and she does a great job. Her presence is felt.
As we all know Gal is not an American and english is not her first language. All though her english is fine and you can easily understand her, the pronunciation can at times make the dialog feel scripted and not a natural progression of a conversation. This is something I think she will get better at overtime but as far as grading her performance i believe it is the only thing draging down the grade somewhat because she performed everything else beautifully. Cinematic - 8/10

Beautiful shot with high depth. Great colorization to bring in the right mood and the action scenes is filmed at a pace where the action is seen and now flown by in an instance.

Overall: 6 / 10

Stunning actress, good cast, beautiful cinematics but somewhat inadequate story line drags the grade down. The movie is enjoyable and worth watching.

Wonder Woman could be the very best superhero movie ever made, but that cheesy and special effect-driven finale was terrible and I'm betting it wasn't Patty Jenkins who wanted that.

A good buildup for Diana and an excellent middle portion of the movie leads an overly long end portion with a villain who's look does not fit the role that was provided. There's clearly much more direction and clarity involved with this movie and it really was well done. Especially Chris Pine and Gal Gadot, whose chemistry was amazing and some of the best parts of the movie are when they're alone. But I'd hold off on calling this the saving grace for the DC universe. With only one good movie under it's belt before the Justice League, DC is still on shaky ground here in terms of competing with Marvel. Expand

With Wonder Woman in this case it truly is what the critics say, and praise it for being the "Best DC movie" out of the 4 in the line up. Taking away from the darker aspect and genre we finally have a movie where it is allowed to have wit and humor without the indication it's trying to carbon copy what Marvel is doing, or needlessly be a depressing 3 hour blockbuster like either BVS or Man of Steel. Story telling wise Patty Jenkins directing and script really bought the character to life on the big screen with all the incredible action sequences, interactions with the likes of Steve Trevor, Etta Candy and the main big bad (SPOILERS>>>>>>>) Ares. With that being said the movie does have it's weak points namely speaking the CGI was off in some places that irked me a little during Act 1 and Act 3 being the norm for all superhero movies being the "big boss smash arena". With that being said that takes nothing away from what a spectacular movie Wonder Woman is and truly has revitalised and restored hope and interest that the DCEU will keep up the quality, pace and new bar Wonder Woman has set. If not, then it's at least on par with Man of Steel. I feel the performances were pretty top notch, but were diminished by some cliche writing and inconsistent quality to the action sequences. The final battle, and then the movie closing shot of Wonder Woman was so poorly done, was a real shame; because the rest of the movie was so much better. It just felt so lazy. Other than that, I found the film to be enjoyable; but it was not on par with what we've been getting out of the MCU in comparison. DC has a lot of work to do; because Justice League is looking like the Single 'A' affiliate of the Major League Avengers team. This movie is at least a step in the right direction for DC, but they need they need to stop with this "love conquers evil" nonsense, when it was actually Wonder Woman's powers derived from her godly genes. Who else but skillful actresses like Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright could make Amazons believable, and Gal Gadot is a great find – totally warm, appealing, and convincing as she matured in the film without being distractingly sexual, even in skimpy costumes. Chris Pine was also wonderful as were Danny Huston and David Thewlis. But the real credit must go to the director who kept things moving yet made an interesting film for many different audiences that had plenty of action and spectacle without being empty-hearted or empty-headed. Patty Jenkins’ direction was a real triumph, although not unexpected from the director of a great film like Monster that deservedly made Charlize Theron a star. Expand

Seriously they sound like cheap vampires. Events unfolded like a bad anime cartoon. The guy they cast as Aries the God of War is the gangly british guy with bad teeth in Fargo. Strange pick. The fawning over the heroine beauty get tiring after awhile. The hat tips to every ethnic and gender injustice in US history was preachy and tired. Seemed really half baked. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Painfully bad entry into a painfully bad DC universe. Origin story of Diana ,who doesn't know who she really is,raised by Amazons who have no clue what's outside their little invisible island area.
The first hour and a half are incredibly tedious as Diana is at first shielded from harm by her mother not letting her be trained but then ends up being trained to be the 'best there is' .
She then saves Steve and goes off into the war with a rag tag group of character actors to find and slay Aries the god of war and end the second world war.
The direction is pretty bad in this film as there are lots of inconsistencies in Diana's character.
At first she's never seen a man before but a day later she's talking about having read sex manuals.
At first she is a confused girl who doesn't fight when the Germans attack Themiscura and a day later she's a cross between Captain America and the Incredible Hulk.
They do the 'fish out of water' thing for awhile when she first hits western society which is awkward and more awkwardness when they mingle sexual tension in as they go along with Steve.
It is done very clumsily and rivals Amadala's romance with Anikin Skywalker in Star Wars for cringeworthiness. She has a shield and 'the sword that is the only thing that can kill Aries' but thinks nothing of just handing them to a frumpy government secretary to wander off with.
Some warrior.
Occasionally during this they go off and we see a bad general and his evil scientist henchwoman who have developed poison gas to kill everyone .
Oh and they had to bring the plight of the North American native into it as well which was kind of out of place to say the least.
I don't think i'll be watching any more DC films unless they can get Joss Whedon to direct.
Gadot still isn't a very good actor to play WW in my opinion as she isn't strong looking enough and hasn't got the acting gravitas to pull it off.
When they put her in a suit and hat to disguise she just shrinks out of sight and she and steve do a bit of an I Love Lucy type skit thing in a room with the allied generals.
The action isn't all that great either .
See this film at your own peril. Dunno how it gets so many good reviews. I couldn't wait to get out of the theatre personally.

Only to be almost instantly faced with jarring CGI moment after jarring CGI moment. At least try to make your ocean scenes look like they were filmed in the ocean if your film budget exceeds an amount of money I will never personally see. The choreography is impressive, the musical composition isn't garbage, the acting is up to standards but the movie itself is nothing but tired cliches and lazy writing. I understand why the movie is getting good reviews, and that's because I believe the director and writers played it safe. There's nothing spectacular about this movie, nothing interesting or ground breaking, it's just alright. Gal Gadot did a great job, don't get me wrong, but by the end, there was nothing I could talk about to my friends about how amazing it is, no scene that stood out, no actor/actress that deserved more recognition than the rest. So, is Wonder Woman a good movie? Yes, I'd say it's an enjoyable movie to see. Is it a diamond of cinema achievement? I'd say no. It's a story that comes a dime a dozen, and therefore not worth much more than a nice night out with your friends or family. Expand

BUT once I saw everything the movie had to offer I thought it was a great message, and the battle scenes were cool. It felt like a very realistic super hero movie of maintaining some of the realism of a world war 2 battle scene with a super human fighting. Wonder Woman leaps and bounds above the other three shows in DCEU. With breathtaking scenes, a few entertaining accessory scenes and strong supporting cast, everyone works together to tell the story of the hero's journey. Inspired it more than the occasional compensations expressed in the Gadot part, and some technical shaky. The third fight is messy, it's another superhero movie, and even Wonder Woman can not beat it. Overall, Wonder Woman is a winner, because it succeeds in telling the story of a woman who's power. Fight the world of war with the power of love. What is more courageous?

I give it a 10/10 (despite a few flaws imo) because it just really took me by surprise. I was wowed from start to finish. Right from the very beginning when you're introduced to her world, the paradise island of Themyscira, you can't stop soaking in the imagery, the beauty, the wonder, the power, the majesty, the lore. Seeing Diana as a sweet, eager child watching these warrior women train and fight, wanting to be like them from that young age...her curiosity and desire to fight.. and when her mother tells her the story of the gods and their own history, you're completely captivated along with her. Throughout the film you grow with this character, you see her develop, learn, face the realities of the world, struggle with herself and the way she thought things were... Steve Trevor played brilliantly by Chris Pine is such a perfect costar for Gal Gadot - he works perfectly with her, and honestly it's their chemistry, relationship, charisma and overall story that makes this whole movie work so well. I just wanna see it again...and now I'm incredibly excited to see more of Wonder Woman and this DC film universe. Oh, and make sure to give Patty Jenkins the reigns of the DCEU - she is a godsend! That commentaryWhile most reviewers of the current film, "Wonder Woman," are singing praises to its actors--and fine they are--they also seem to be overly concerned with the box office worthiness of what they term "the summer blockbuster." That commentary is irrelevant and beside the point. What we, the movie-going public, actually care about is not the profits but the worthiness of the film. Is it a compelling story with emotional appeal, characters we care about and crafty, perhaps even artistic, visual style? Thankfully "Wonder Woman" checks all those boxes. It is done artfully and without condescension. While the filmmakers deploy delightful light touches to move the story forward, they also have the gall to show disturbing examples of the horrors of war and man's inhumanity to man. We see this through the eyes of an innocent witness, Diana, who reacts as we should to the horror of it all. There is a grounded realism and reality behind this butt-kicking homage to the women's movement in film and in the world--a theme that resonates and a resolve that captivates. That's the true wonder of "Wonder Woman." --cal Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For those not familiar with DC universe this is a good overall story with good twists and turns. Worth watching once but some slow parts, unnecessary scenes and plain dialog. 13 year olds will probably love it.

The lead in part was good to give some backstory but a little too long (could have saved 3-4 minutes here). For example, the whole we can't tell her who she really is was overdone. Say it once and be done. The little girl chase scene could have been reduced. The plane crash and saving of him was too long. The beach attack kept pace well -- the slo-mo probably not needed. The bathing scene as I would call it was too long and not needed (but for some, maybe they will enjoy it).

Pine does a good job.

I thought the special effects were very good.

the actors -- some were better than others-- some of the lines may be to blame and at times her attempt to find a balance between super smart Amazon intellect and communicating with normal people left something to be desired. I wasn't sure how to interpret this- WW is brilliant and this is highlighted in the movie, but her communication with "people" was just off. I couldn't tell if this was intentional or not but noticeably uncomfortable for me to listen to during the movie. I liked the ending, and the final battle was not too long (by much anyways). Certainly, this is the best recent DC movie - Would I watch it again at the theater -- no. Worth watching, most certainly.

I agree with some of the reviews: poor CGI and bad acting. This is not an above average movie. The best thing about this movie which I like is the lesson it wants to convey: It's not about what you deserve; it's what you believe.

The wait was worth it. Gal Gadot nails the role, and you end up feeling good about a DC hero for the first time since the original "Superman" in 1978. (The Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy of the 2000s was also great, but "good" is not what you felt when you thought about that Batman.) This is a very good thing, if you're DC: Aside from Superman and Batman (and really, just Batman over the past 20 years), the company hasn't been able to generate much live action buzz with any of its heroes in theaters. If they wanted to keep up with Marvel, which has managed to march a solid stream of its iconic characters onto the big screen, DC needs another hero franchise.

I was a bit generous in giving this movie a 9; usually I reserve that score for all-time classics, a level this movie does not quite reach. There are some nit-picky items here that I just couldn't forgive (particularly those that are non-canon to the comic book). Without giving too much away, I'm not thrilled about:

* The "enhanced" relationship between Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor.
* The abrupt change in skill level of one movie character, to the point where you wonder how the person isn't always a Master of the Universe and would therefore be unbeatable under just about any circumstance. * The timeline move to WWI in place of WWII (although, given other canon violations, this can almost be forgiven).
* The constant slow-motion scenes in some of the action sequences (but not in all -- make up your minds, already).
* An abrupt change in the fate of one character.
* A somewhat cliche change in Diana's origin (i.e. "Xena, Warrior Princess.")
* An also cliche group of supporting characters who go traipsing with Diana through the Western Front. * No use of the original TV series theme or the "electric twirl" as she changed into costume (just kidding here -- we knew it wasn't going to happen, but wouldn't it have been great if it had?).

On the plus side:

* Fantastic battle scene involving the Amazons and the German soldiers. Makes the battle scenes in "300" look like schoolyard scuffles among 5 year olds.
* Wonderfully choreographed fight scenes between Diana and pretty much anyone else.
* No nudity, swearing or even R-rated violence. There's barely any blood in this movie, and you don't miss it a bit.
* Robin Wright as General Antiope, Wonder Woman's aunt, who teaches her those amazing combat skills.
* Great chemistry between Chris Pine (Trevor) and Diana. Best scene by far is his "above average" moment. If you ever wondered what Captain Kirk was like as a high school student, perfecting his lady's man skills, here are your CliffsNotes.
* A less-dark film than other recent DC efforts (particularly the two Superman films), offering a few light-hearted moments that offset the official, grim storyline. (Think "Superman" and Lois Lane's "pink" underwear.)
* At least the level of canon infraction isn't at that demonstrated by shows like "Smallville," which pretty much threw out the source material and did what it wanted (remember the eventually murdered Jimmy Olsen and his little brother...Jimmy Olsen?). A lot has been said about the CGI-heavy moments toward the end of the film. Frankly, if I hadn't already read about them (and therefore, knew to look for them), I wouldn't have noticed. If anything, they're what's become standard in sci-fi/action films these days...not over the top, just what you expect to see. Unless you really want to go back to the days of Styrofoam boulders and rubber swords, and punches that were about an inch away from the face but still knocked the bad guy out cold.

Bottom line: A- for acting, B+ for story, A- for execution, and B+ for special effects. Nice job, DC. Now you get to do it again (times 7) with "Justice League" next November.

The movie gets at least a 10-point deduction right there, which may explain why not one metacritic review gave it 100. Another knock on the director goes to the realism of some of the battle scenes. I never felt like I was looking at anything other than a set during the scenes in the Belgian town, for example. The budget should have been big enough to conjure up a bit more Saving Private Ryan. That’s another 10 points. Now that we’ve put things into better context, let’s say that Gal Gadot is a great choice, and I look forward to a nation (world) of girls wanting to grow up to be like her. Physically imposing, sincerely expressive, and capable of byplay with Chris Pine—well done, box checked for our lithe super heroine. The special effects were more distracting than dramatic, but this only had a meaningful negative impact on the obligatorily apocalyptic finale. I left the theater somewhat disappointed, but they’ll get another chance to tighten it up in the next go-round. Expand

Seeing Diana as a naive warrior from her sheltered life on the island to the WWI setting was a good transition. I really don't have the script or story board issues that I've had with MoS, BvS, or SSq.

Giving this a 10 (it's actually closer to an 8) to balance off the misogynists and bigots that are giving it 0s.....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Without Chris Pine's acting all this movie has is qood music choice and a nice visual for the audience. The actual lore of Wonder Woman is changed too much and not in a good way. The 'villain' of the movie is not actually a good villain, also Ares getting destroyed in the end is not a good way to end it, and the classic brother and sisters hugging in that scene is also idiotic and bad. Atleast they shouldn't have killed Ares so easy. Expand

The acting is so far above and beyond what one would expect from a summer blockbuster. The set and costume design is superb. Be it fantasy or WW1 Europe, the world is so beautiful and believable that at times it feels like an Oscar-level effort was put fourth. The film breaks up the drama with expertly delivered comedy that manages to somehow come off as non-campy. The characters were incredibly believable and felt so human and relateable. The character arc of Diana was so incredible, worthy of the great myths the story references and borrows from. Chris Pine delivers easily his best performance to date. Coming out of the theater I felt pumped up and excited, a feeling that I was starting to think I would never get from a movie again. The movie gets a 10/10 from me, and I don't take that kind of rating lightly. This movie is a true masterwork, and I feel like DC is going to have an insurmountable task to even come close to this level of greatness in the near future. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You can pretty much tell that the critics are full of crap since most of the praise for this movie is about how the main chatacter and the director are women. Remove those things and you are left with a generic, utterly forgetable movie.

I can understand DC failing with BvS or Suicide Squad, but they have no excuse failing with this one since they already made a good Wonder Woman animated movie, with better story, characters and structure. Also, they have a character based in Greek mythology, probably the richest mythology in the world, with gods, monsters and all kinds of mythical creatures and yet they decided that the best enemies for their Warrior Princess in bikini to fight are soldiers in the First World War. I don't really get the setting, other than the fact that they had to hammer in their feminist message of how opressed women were in the period that they got to stay home instead of dying in some muddy trench. They could have easilly had Diana go all Kratos and kill the entire Mount Olympus, instead we see her killing some poor bastards in the trenches and the movie doesn't even play this for satire like the first Captain America did.

The characters are also subpar. Gal Gadot is the only one that raises above average. She isn't the best at emoting, but she has enough charm and femininity as not to make this character just another man with boobs. Chris Pine is pretty bad though, he has zero charisma and chemistry with the main actress and this makes their relationship feel forced. The other characters are forgetable, from the diversity squad of good guys to the disposble villain. I actually thought they will be clever at the end and reveal that there is no God of War influencing the events and there are just people fighting other people, but the movie is too dumb for that and of course the villain is revealed so they can have a dumb battle at the end.

I do appreciate however that, even though DC went more towards the Marvel formula, they at least had the decency not to add jokes and quips every 30 seconds that ruin all the tension. There is more humour than in the Snyder films, but it's done with taste and they don't feel the need to insert dick and poop jokes just so that it can pander to teenagers and manchildren. And that at least makes it better than Guardians of the Galaxy, if DC fanboys want any comfort.

Special effects were pretty awesome, and most of the action/fighting scenes were very entertaining. The problem is the story line, character development and some of the acting. A lot of the dialogue was poorly written, the interactions and energy between characters were flat. It was one big cliche after another. Again we have Warner Bros/DC missing the mark and failing to bring its characters to life the way Marvell has been doing. 5/10
