As someone who does enjoy superhero films when done right, there are some good ones out there as well as some disappointing ones. Enjoyed the character of Wonder Woman as a kid, and always felt compared to other superhero characters that sheAs someone who does enjoy superhero films when done right, there are some good ones out there as well as some disappointing ones. Enjoyed the character of Wonder Woman as a kid, and always felt compared to other superhero characters that she deserved her own film.

Which she gets in this 2017 effort directed by Patty Jenkins. Is 'Wonder Woman' as good as the hype and a wonder of a film? Not to me, there are a few things that stop it from being even better. Does it deserve the negativity in a lot of the comments here? While it is easy to see why people would be disappointed, as it could have been better, my answer would be no and that some of the hate is over the top.

There are problems here in 'Wonder Woman'. Part of it is to do with pacing, the film starts a little dull in places and later on as more happens in the story it felt rushed and at times it affects the storytelling which has its muddled moments.

The ending is clichéd and anti-climactic and some of the characters feel underdeveloped, especially the underused and underwritten villain.

However, 'Wonder Woman' is mostly an exceptionally made film, apart from instances of frenetic editing, with a lot of atmosphere in the production design and lighting, audacious photography and special effects that are super slick. The music has a haunting sense of mood and rousing energy, and Jenkins directs with an understanding of the titular character and accommodating the performing of Gal Gadot.

Script has some witty humour, heartfelt sentiment and also takes itself seriously without making the mistake of previous BC Extended Universe (of which 'Wonder Woman' is by far the best, actually being a good film) of being too grim and dark. The action is stirring and often spectacular in spectacle.

'Wonder Woman's' story has its faults but most of it is heartfelt and thrilling. It does the character of Wonder Woman justice with a genuinely interesting back-story that makes her a compellingly real and easy-to-relate-to character who you admire for all her strengths and flaws.

Gadot is superbly cast as Wonder Woman, creating a character that really stands out among the rest of the superhero line in terms of gender and her ideals. Chris Pine is amusing, commanding and likable with great chemistry with Gadot, while Danny Houston clearly enjoys himself as the villain. The rest of the cast do very solidly.

Overall, not a wonder but a long way from a blunder. 7/10 Bethany Cox… Expand

Some other good points would be that I was surprised to see known actors in totally different roles, and despite some cultural clichés, it was pleasant to see how someone from an utopic society finds our misshaped world.

So after seeing those two movies I was expecting this movie to also be in the same grim tone as them. Of course it is slightly grim, but not to that level. And that is a good thing, because it absolutely matches the tone of the movie. Personally I was never interested in Wonder Woman. I find her powers very vague. In one movie she's shown to jump very high while in the other she's shown to fly. In this movie she uses the Godzilla breath to kill Ares in the end but she never uses her this power ever again. But other than that I don't mind watching Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman is set in the time of World War I. Steve Trevor accidentally comes on Themiscyra, followed by the German Army. After finding out that there is a war going on, Diana decides to accompany Steve to the men's world and put an end to this war, since that is what his mother has taught her since her childhood. But when the time comes for her daughter to go, Hippolyta isn't able to let her go easily. She fears Diana will lose her innocence once she sees that men's world, and as we have seen in Batman v Superman, that's exactly what happens. The movie tells us how the events proceeded.

It is funny to see Diana trying to adjust to the lifestyle of London. There's actually a scene in which she walks in a store with her sword and shield. We get to see some characters in a pub who are ready to help them fight the war. There is the scene where Wonder Woman runs through the no-man's land where the German soldiers are ready to shoot them down. That was probably the best scene from the entire movie, equivalent to probably the warehouse fight scene from Batman v Superman. The scene has been choreographed by Zack Snyder himself, so it's obvious as to why it was so resemblant. And then later Wonder Woman and Steve bond over a dance and discuss about their lives with the other characters they met at the bar.

Wonder Woman and her friends later infiltrates a German party and find out about their secret plan and reach the airbase where the final fight takes place. Wonder Woman finds out that the German commander is actually Ares, who wanted to make this batle last for as long as possible to destroy humanity. Wonder Woman beats him by turning into a Super Saiyan, but it's not really a happy ending. Steve dies while trying to take an aircraft away that is filled with explosives. Now that Wonder Woman 1984 is out, we know that Steve isn't dead yet. But since I haven't watched it, I don't want to talk about it.

Wonder Woman and its sequel Wonder Woman 1984 are a proof that DC really needs Zack Snyder if they want to make a successful cinematic universe. Neither Snyder should be left all on his own like it was done in Sucker Punch, nor should he be restricted by the studio like it was done in Batman v Superman. He should be allowed to have a partner whom he's comfortable working with and they should keep a check on him, like Patty Jenkins was here or Christopher Nolan was in Man of Steel. Although Wonder Woman has earned a lot at the box office, I think it's popularity is dying out very quickly, just like Aquaman. This movie made me interested in the character of Wonder Woman and I really would like to see a true sequel to this movie.… Expand

I really loved this movie. I was skeptical about Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, I grew up with Lynda Carter. I changed my mind after seeing this movie: Gadot is amazing. The whole movie it's very well written, Jenkins is a good director, good music.

I like this movie a lot and I own it on 3D Blu-Ray. Although I dont think it's aged that well. The ending isn't that good and it has some minor woke moment's. The acting performances were stupendous especially from Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. Gal Gadot was terrific as Wonder Woman. The visual effects and action scenes were spectacular and awesome especially the battle in No Man's Land and the final battle between Diana Prince/Wonder Woman and Sir Patrick Morgan/Ares. Patty Jenkins direction was excellent. The musical score/soundtrack was fantastic I especially loved Sia and Labrinth's song during the credits. The writing, story, and screenplay were amazing. I love sword and shield combat and the fight scenes and choreography are AWESOME, with the music really setting a beautiful tone.

A great story that will inspire a generation of not only girls, but ALSO BOYS!!!… Expand

Wonder Woman is a superb film, regardless of whether or not you are into super heroes, and it manages to balance the character's origins beautifully with a modern reinterpretation. The script is excellent, the performances are top-notch, and it is a thrill to the end. I won't spoil anything, but I have to extend my gratitude to everyone involved in this production - very well done, folks. If this and the excellent 'Shazam!' are where DC is headed with its films, I am all in (and I say that having not cared much for their more recent Batman/Superman offerings). Seriously, this is probably the best thing that has ever been done with the Wonder Woman character, and if you have even a modicum of interest, you will be delighted. I am really looking forward to the sequel. Lastly, barring Endgame, Marvel of the past few years should be ashamed of themselves.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finally DC made a decent movie for their shared cinematic universe, but it's not that great. I actually enjoyed the movie and I was kind of glad to finally see a big-budget competent superhero movie starring a woman. The movie up until the third act was great, with good pacing, solid acting, good chemistry between Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor, solid writing, I mean the CGI was bad and the action scenes were kind of underwhelming and had ridiculous slow-motion (makes them look really cheesy) and I think that the lack of good action is not a problem when the rest of the aspects of the movie were really good.

However what keeps this movie from being great is the HORRIBLE THIRD ACT. The third act just ruins the whole movie and I'm serious, it makes everything that happened in the movie feel pointless, maybe if they ended the movie after Steve Trevor sacrificed himself and just make Diana kill some soldiers and end the battle, could have made this movie a lot better, but NOPE we need a big fight scene at the end. The final act of the movie is nothing like the movie we were presented, it became a loud lightshow, just like the ending of Batman v Superman and Man of Steel, it's just punching and punching and fire and explosions while Ares yells cliché dialogue in a cartoon manner while Wonder Woman replies with more cliché dialogue. Oh my god, the third act was awful, but the two other acts were really solid with a decent message about how mankind is destined to always be evil and it's not to blame only one person for all the evil in the world, it's actually a surprisingly good message for a summer blockbuster superhero movie and I liked it, but what keeps this movie from being an 8/10 or even a 9/10 is, again, the third act.

As for superhero movies starring a strong female protagonist, this is MUCH better than Captain Marvel, I could give this movie a 6/10, but because I gave Captain Marvel a 5/10 and I don't want my rating to be interpreted as "slightly better than Captain Marvel", I'll give this a 7/10 just by that fact (maybe I could lower the score for Captain Marvel but...You know what, whatever)… Expand

What I loved about this movie is that it gives much needed levity to the DC universe that the audience was desperately craving. This levity really comes from Diana and how she tries to understand the world she is now in, which leads to some very funny scenes. The funniest scenes come from Diana when she tries to interact with people and Steve Trevor has to step in to stop her from sounding crazy. These scenes really give great moments that allow the audience to have a break, but not an unnecessary, from the action. What was great about the levity in this movie was that it felt like it was natural and not forced on the audience and came straight from a good script and screenplay. What I mean by this is, for example, Suicide Squad had comedy but it was forced on us because of all the reshoots that happened after production.

While the action was fun to watch and had me on the edge of my seat, I would say the cinematic value could’ve been better. By that I mean that there is a lot of slow-mo used in the action sequences which took me out of it in a few moments. There were fight scenes I felt didn’t need to be slow-mo and quick angle changes, but that could be due to things out of the control of the stunt team. I would’ve just liked to see some smoother action scenes and less slow-mo because I find it better to follow if I can see seamless action filmmaking. Lastly, the final fight is very mystical and is very reliant on CGI and just took me out of the WW1 feel of the movie and felt like this battle could take place anywhere.

DC finally has a hit in its universe and has given the movie that their fans have wanted since Man of Steel. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and bought into the characters immediately from the start. DC may have finally figured out what makes a great origin movie, a good script and a focused story. One of the greatest DC movies, Wonder Woman is fantastic. Patty Jenkins delivers amazing action and great emoition to the character.
