The original Wonder Woman remains the best of the recent DC movies, but this sequel unfortunately fails to live up to it’s predecessor. For a start, the central pairing of Gal Gadot and Chris Pine (that was a large part of the first movie) is given far too little screen time in favour of Pedro Pascal’s Maxwell Lord, a nemesis who’s ultimate plan never really seems to make much sense. Wonder Woman 1984 also lacks any real sense of humour, and just takes itself far too seriously for a movie about a superhuman woman with a magic lasso and invisible jet! Even the action sequences are a bit of a disappointment thanks to some ropey CGI. It’s only really Gal Gadot’s captivating screen presence that keeps this from being a complete waste of time to be honest.… Expand

A film that contains several defects, starting from the poorly written plot, to the management of Diana's powers, such as making things invisible (?) or flying (if he succeeds in 1984, why does he never do it in the present? Against Doomsday he would have served ...). But the acting, especially that of Gal Gadot and Pedro Pascal, is not bad, indeed, it is even good. Definitely a step back from the first film, but it's not all to throw away, although most of it is.… Expand

Gal Gadot and Pedro Pascal are the only good things about this film.
Every other thing in it, from the entire story to the chief villain, Cheetah, was a hot mess.

It's a Decent Movie.considering 1st one its a major let down, the story was intriguing but the execution was little meh, the soundtrack/music was brilliant,the entry scene at themiscyra the contest was awesome and then the mall fight it wasIt's a Decent Movie.considering 1st one its a major let down, the story was intriguing but the execution was little meh, the soundtrack/music was brilliant,the entry scene at themiscyra the contest was awesome and then the mall fight it was little cringe but good. the 80s vibe was less but good and throughout the movie the theme and feel shifts drastically, the stone's story and overall first half was felt little dragged and most of the elements in the movie was little unbelievable/no sense, the steve's entry and his catching up with time was amazing, the references of invisible jett and wonder womens flying ability was awesome and the cameo at the end was awesome too lynda as god was brief but amazing, the pedro pascal character and his son literally the heart of this movie there acting was brilliant, others were decent. the 2nd half was good considering 1st half was dragged and slow this half's action scenes that were majorly absent from 1st half was good the truck fight and the golden armor fight was awesome, the ending with nukes and wishes thing was insane and happy ending at last was predictable although the thrills at the end was awesome, The cheetah felt little wasted although her character was decent, the wonder women and steve's goodbye and the end person talk was good.Overall with some cringe moments and good moments its sometimes dragging and sometimes entertaining but Its a decent Movie!… Expand

Very mediocre and a huge step down from the first movie. You can still enjoy the movie but over the course of 2.5hrs there is a multitude of missed opportunities traded for bad decisions. If this franchise gets continued I really hope they return to their origins because there is huge potential.… Expand

It was ok. Really weird that here such low rating from fans while other places better. But not that I care, I put ratings for myself not others. Definitely not the greatest. I get she was going for an 80s style of camera work and aesthetics which is fine if done right, majority of the time it is but sometimes it’s a bit overblown and gets dragged to the forefront more than it needs toDefinitely not the greatest. It’s drags at times and it really feels a bit dumbed down without solid creativity. Theirs a few bright spots, fight scenes are okay but they don’t make Wonder Woman feel like the bad ass she is. Pedros character is alright, I feel like he would have been a better side character though. I’m giving it a 6/10 for the bright spots, it’s an easy to follow movie that does at the minimum have a cohesive story. But it really lacks in the wow moments that leave you saying “this was awesome”.… Expand

Movie was way too long, and the action scenes were terrible. CGI felt unfinished and the final battle was a different take on Bruce Almighty. J'avais énormément d'attente pour WW84, malheureusement le film n'a pas tenu toutes ses promesses. L'essentiel du problème se trouve dans l'écriture, là où le 1er film avait excellé celui-ci failli. Il y a quelques facilités et trous scénaristiques qui piquent :
- l'électricité pour Cheetah,
- des personnages qui apparaissent par magie au bon moment,
- Steve n'a pas de passeport ??
- Steve qui ne sait pas prendre un escalator alors qu'il peut piloter un avion avec 70ans de nouvelles technologies

Les acteurs sont géniaux, ils ont parfaitement rempli leur rôles. Plus particulièrement Pedro Pascal qui est un excellent Maxwell Lord. Kristen Wiig aussi était pas mal mais d'un autre côté Je trouve que son personnage de Barbara n'a pas été assez bien utilisée, à moins qu'elle puisse revenir dans WW3, ça restera un personnage gaspillé.

J'ai été déçu parce que j'attendais beaucoup de ce film et aussi parce que WW est mon personnage préféré. J'ai pas mal de chose à redire dessus mais faut avouer que les 2 premières scènes (Games & Mall) sont juste incroyables. Le score de Hans Zimmer est incroyable (Themyscira, Games, 1984, Black Gold, Cheetah, Open Road, White House, Radio Waves, etc.) J'écoute l'album en boucle depuis sa sortie. L'utilisation de Beautiful Lies était sympa mais la scène manquait un peu d'épic pour être aussi marquante que dans BvS.

Virez Goeff Johns et qu'on en parle plus, ce mec est un virus pour DC… Expand

The only good thing about this movie is Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. The plot sucks. The climax is too short. Wasted so many times for happy scenes like watching fireworks. If i'm being honest, I actually enjoyed watching this movie when it first came out. Seeing Wonder Woman in an 80s styled movie is pretty damn fun to watch but when I look back on this movie, I'm surprised as to how incredibly bad it was. Seeing Wonder Woman in an 80s styled movie is pretty damn fun to watch but when I look back on this movie, I'm surprised as to how incredibly bad it was. The acting was fine but the pacing, the effects, and the very iffy message didn't make up for what could have been. It also didn't make any sense...like at all. When watching superhero movie, it's easy to forget about suspension of disbelief but when watching this movie, there's just so much of it that it's like the directors were trying to make it incomprehensible in a good way but instead made a confusing, muddled mess. Also the message that Patty Jenkins was trying to convey in this movie was a reasonably fine message but can be viewed in so many different ways that it's hard to know what the message actually is, and many people having watched this movie can very easily take the message the wrong way and...something could happen because of that. Other than the entertainment, there is very little of this movie which is not awful… Expand

I liked Wonder Woman, so I had no problem continuing, so I thought I'd give it a try. I was disappointed quite quickly. High heels shoes don't look good on her when she's running. The romantic and comedy scenes between Diana and Steve are very childish and absurd, not adult at all, the whole movie in general. There are scenes reminiscent of Batman from Schumacher. Invisibility is pulled up their sleeve without any explanation, it does it because the script says. The theme of "I don't need a man to be happy" is absurd and contradicts itself in the same movie, because she has been sad for decades for having lost her love. There are cameras even in the mall, however they enter the White House as if nothing, without any security. The villains are much better than in the previous installment led by great actors. The treatment of men is worse than in Birds of Prey. The action scenes are very good and the movie is not bad, but it has many flaws. The final battle is very good, but it is very short.… Expand

Gal Gadot returns as Diana Prince in “Wonder Woman 1984” which has seen its release date shift a few times due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The film has started to open overseas and will arrive in the U.S. on Christmas day with a limited debut on HBO Max as well.

The story sees Diana now living in Washington D.C. in 1984. Diana is popular but has refused male companionship as she still longs for her late love Steve Trevor (Chris Pine).

Diana works in the Smithsonian Institute in antiquities and keeps her secret identity under wraps even when a daring mall heist forces her to leap into action.

A shy and passive employee named Barbara (Kirsten Wiig); who is afraid of her own shadow and largely ignored by her peers is befriended by Diana and they discover one item from the heist is inscribed with the ability to grant a wish. Unknowingly Diana wishes for Steve to return and Barbara wishes to be more like Diana which sets a chain of events into motion.

A shady business man named Maxwell Lord (Perdro Pascal) has his site on obtaining the relic as he believes having the ability to grant wishes will allow him to save his failing business and give him the power he craves.

With such a promising setup; the film ultimately does not deliver on its premise and becomes bogged down in drawn out sequences with surprisingly little action and gaps in logic that defy even standards for a comic book film.

The first 90 minutes of the film has roughly 10-15 minutes of action tops and we are instead given lengthy scenes of Steve trying to find an 80s fashion look; flying over fireworks, and Maxwell trashing from one locale to another without much needed continuity.

An action scene involving a convoy chase through the desert seems very inspired by “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and ultimately does not deliver especially with such a long gape between the action sequences.

The final act does attempt to redeem the film as seeing Barbara transform into her new persona is interesting and Wiig does a very solid job with the role. This sadly is undermined with a single line of dialogue which takes away a big part of the transformation that audiences deserved to see.

There was also a sequence where Diana races down the streets and takes to flight with her Lasso and then discovers she can fly like Superman. Not only is this not in keeping with the character; but we see this extended fast moving sequence where she is clearly heading away from D.C. at great speed only to arrive at a destination with an item which had been established to be back at her home in D.C. It is this sort of sloppiness that really detracts from the film. There is also the fact that Steve has to fly her around on a jet that even as a pilot he should not know how to fly as he has never flown a jet aircraft in his life.

When the big confrontation comes it is a letdown as it is not overly epic and the CGI really does not seem to mesh. What is an even bigger disappointment is that a certain character stands emoting for several minutes while Diana gives such a bland and extended speech that even my wife had to ask “who wrote these lines”.

The film was not a total disaster as the characters were interesting and worked well with one another making the film entertaining in parts despite being really disappointed with it.

The film strikes me as a product of the talented Patty Jenkins being able to do whatever she wanted after the success of the first film. Jenkins not only Directed but did the screenplay for it. Considering the amazing job she did writing “Monster” I had high expectations for the film but to me it seemed like it could have used a bit more attention to several aspects.

My summary would be the following… good cast, entertaining in parts, not much action over two hours, takes huge liberties with Diana and her abilities, massive gaps in logic even for a comic movie. It aims to be epic and comes up lacking. At least the mid. credit scene was worth it.

WW1984 starts off with a really strong first half hour. Strong character introductions, an exciting and fun flashback, reflection by the protagonist, and earned callbacks to previous films in the DC franchise. Fun stuff.

Then, the movie takes a sharp nosedive into the absurd. Coincidences abound, completely unexplained motivations, bizarre reveals, and uncomfortable dialogue riddles the second act and by the time Wonder Woman hits you with its biggest action scene, you feel completely overwhelmed with just how many utterly absurd and annoyingly ridiculous things had to happen to get the characters to the setting for their fight. I really wanted to like this movie, and honestly, I'd watch the beginning of it again through the lens of a failed pilot episode. Overall, WW1984 falls flat, to the point where I think a third film wouldn't even be able to save the reputation of the second by cleaning up its mess. The series should be dead with the sequel, as Wonder Woman's second solo film has made this iteration of the character completely unsalvageable.… Expand

Don't expect more of the same that you got in the first movie.

I didn't hate this film, I was just bored of it about an hour in and started to read reviews of the movie to check if it was just me or if it really is as boring as I think or ifDon't expect more of the same that you got in the first movie.

I didn't mind the acting, a couple of scenes were good but it just didn't feel like a superhero movie but instead a fan tribute where the fan just wanted to make sure it was as inclusive and suitable for kids as possible.

Go see it! When it's released on Netflix or something, don't pay for it.… Expand

Esperava algo mais!

No geral o filme não cativou tanto como o ultimo. Se no ultimo o único problema foi o vilão não ter sido o melhor, nesse o vilão até era bom/boa mas os motivos para as coisas que eles faziam não foram bem explicados, tudoEsperava algo mais!

No geral o filme não cativou tanto como o ultimo. Se no ultimo o único problema foi o vilão não ter sido o melhor, nesse o vilão até era bom/boa mas os motivos para as coisas que eles faziam não foram bem explicados, tudo se processou muito rápido e até as cenas de ação não foram as melhores.

The movie suffers though, because the first one was so good. Gadot was awesome in the role as usual, and surprisingly, Wiig was fantastic in her portrayal of Minerva as well. The real issue with this movie, other than the pacing, is how Steve Trevor's return was handled. It was downright cringy, and neither WW nor Steve really see an issue with him inhabiting some other guy's body with no thought given to this guy's life. Other than that, WW84 is perfectly fine, just didn't live up to expectations.… Expand

Though the rest of the movie was great, the last half hour and final conclusion were the most disappointing and least memorable. One thing that heavily annoyed me when watching was the fact that Maxwell Lord has the same amount if not more scenes than Diana. He’s not even a character worth having this many scenes because he is just a boring antagonist. Maxwell Lord was definitely the worst part of this film unlike the second villain, Barbra Minerva/Cheetah. I absolutely loved seeing the slow transformation of Barbra becoming Cheetah throughout the film. I wish that the movie only centered around her and Diana since she was the best part of the movie for me.… Expand

Movie felt lame and underwhelming. Big change in the wrong direction from the first film which I really enjoyed. It may not be as much of a trilogy killer as the last Jedi but it sure took the steam out of the series in a big way.

My thoughts on this film are meh. I think the biggest hurdle about this film is the running time. On top of that, it's not too much action. The writing is bad, the script is bad, special effects are terrible and Diana Prince rapes a man whose body is borrowed by her former love interest Steve Trevor. I loved the first movie and thought this one was just ok. It's 2 and a half hours which is probably the worst thing about it. It's just not worth that much of someone's time.

Also Kristen Wiig as a villain... terrible casting. She'd be fine as a geeky best friend but as someone ignored, gradually turning evil... she just can't pull it off. Plus realistically... she's not nearly as attractive as gal gadot. It's kind of weird having her as a rival.

The action is pretty good though and it's well shot. Some pretty solid performances. Not a great script or story. Just some nonsense about a magic wishstone. Overall... it's fine but a big step down from the first movie and too long. 2 hours would be much better.… Expand

After so much time and all the delays it had, it's strange to realize that the expectations far exceeded the results, and that personally, Wonder Woman 1984 was a massive disappointment.

Clearly the success of the first film granted PattyAfter so much time and all the delays it had, it's strange to realize that the expectations far exceeded the results, and that personally, Wonder Woman 1984 was a massive disappointment.

Clearly the success of the first film granted Patty Jenkins ample freedom, but that doesn't translate into a good movie, much less a great story, and Wonder Woman 1984 is an excessive and cartoonish film.
I can even go so far as to say that there were oversaturated moments that made me think of Schumacher's Batman & Robin.

It certainly doesn't fall as low as that slop, but Jenkins plays with a lot of elements that doesn't really help her film. Mainly, I deeply believe that it was a mistake to continue placing the character in the past. An element that also shows an implicit hypocrisy on behalf of the director, since she criticized Joss Whedon because Justice League contradicts her films, but this same film contradicts what Zack Snyder did in BVS, because apparently she forgot that Diana Prince herself says that she walked away from humanity 100 years ago, and 1984 shows that she did not do that.

I must say that at all times the decision to place the plot of the film at that time was more a whim of the director, than a real decision that adds something to the character, especially since we already know the sophisticated woman she became in the present. What Wonder Woman 1984 really is, is a love story in which the lead character ultimately learns that the easiest way is not the best option and she has to learn to let go. It's nothing new or innovative, but I assume that for many viewers it will be enough for emotional catharsis, especially considering that critics have called it an antidote to the reality we're currently living, which makes me think about what their reasons would be to value it, if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic.

And what's the worst sin in the film? Its villains and their remarkable lack of threat.
Pascal's character is the catalyst, while the wrongly chosen Kristen Wiig is the muscle.
Pascal is at least credible, Wiig's plot twist is simply laughable, and forced to work more by the structure of the narrative than because it has a specific or necessary weight in the plot.

Gadot delivers, and shows that the character belongs to her, and her chemistry with Pine is still genuine like in the first film.
Pine is her best support and anchor. Now her real challenge will be seeing her standing alone in the character's third planned film.

In small mention, I have to give kudos to Hans Zimmer's remarkable score, but thumbs down for the CGI and some VFX shots, since there are moments that look really bad, especially the scenes in which Wonder Woman is running.

In conclusion? It was more hype than anything else.
And for me it's one of the biggest disappointments of the year.… Expand

All of the ways this could have gone with the Amazonians, the old Gods or even a Justice league Villian. But we got cheetah who created a little challenge and is a character seen so many times before that thinks she has been wronged and goes crazy. Maxwell lord who was always going to change his mind on what he is doing in the whole movie and making wishes just isn't that interesting than a villain Diana can not beat.

We also get Steve Trevor again who does little in this film but follow Diana around like a lost sheep. They should have gone with a new character really because from his introduction you knew he was not going to be staying very long and Diana would be upset like in the last movie pretty much the same thing again.… Expand

Mostly a stinker of a superhero film. Oh, I almost forgot to mention how bad Kristen Wig's villain was....just terrible. There really was literally no point in making this movie, BUT it still is a one time watch, and that's it. I won't be buying this one on 4k when it goes on sale. The first Wonder Woman with Gal was actually pleasantly surprising and quite good. Sadly, this sequel is a dud.… Expand

Honestly, I was one of the ones who was starting to forget that this movie was even coming out until the news that it was coming to HBO Max. So you know I had to check it out on the Christmas weekend. Would this sequel live up to the hype of first movie? Or will it be forgotten in the utter mess that 2020 and Pandemic world has left us in?

I'm going to keep it simple as possible with WW84 and that's hard to do with a film that was all over the place. WW84 was a jumbled, slightly boring, unfocused mess. When I say "mess", I don't mean because the movie was horrible, I mean "mess" because the movie was just very average compared to the anticipation. I've only seen and heard people say this movie was "meh", "bad", "boring" or "good". I'm was quite frankly baffled at that range but not after viewing the movie. I understand that most of this angst comes from the viewers and reviewers because the first movie was just so focused and detailed. WW84 had promise but, just like Tenet, it suffered from "you're doing too much" disease. Yet strangely, WW84 also didn't do quite enough, and for a movie that runs for 2 hours and 26 minutes that's quite a feat. The movie looked pretty good but also didn't give us the magic from the first movie. Except you, Gal Gadot, you are magical to look at. The dialogue was basic even though Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal did their best to keep it interesting. Side note, K. Wiig gave Gal a run for her good looking money for a minute there in the movie. But let me focus, don't get me started on the action. There was nothing new and the cool points of the trailer were so trivial and minimal in the actual movie. It seems like they forgot this was a super hero movie because there was way too little action for a long movie like this. Either give us more action or make the action you have so dope it's memorable, but they found a way to do neither. It was only a little taste here and a little taste there but that's about it. It's honestly like the whole creative team were all on different pages for this movie and the editing couldn't save the final product. The puzzle was already configured and the pieces clearly weren't in the right spots. I mean for goodness sake there wasn't even a real villain in the movie. Come on DC! You're already lagging behind in the movie franchise world, you cannot fumble the ball like this after such a good first film just a few years ago.

With all of that said, the movie really is just an average super hero flick. There is some entertainment with action but the length of the movie and the unfocused narrative lead to the movie feeling boring and inconsequential. If I'd paid for this in the theater, I'd be pretty upset but as a streaming options, it's not a reason to get HBO MAX but if you already have the app you can stream it if you're bored with a handful of popcorn.… Expand

The Cheetah came way too late into the movie and that didn't setup that villain very well. The main villain was fine but got too much screen time. Renouncing a wish should have been more spectacular and include a time factor. The FX were not always accurate. Some composite scenes were pretty bad (children pickup by WW), some felt totally CGI. The flight scenes were pretty good. The acting was solid from the main actors, less from the rest. I like the emotional parts but the Christmas scene at the end felt incredibly cheesy. What happened to Cheetah ? Don't know. The music was average at best. I give it a 60%. Although it's not bad movie, it's structure and story decision is left to be desire. The second wish for Cheetah, just broke the main accepted premise.… Expand

Superman in some ways for me, and the cast of this movie deserved so much better. Poor storytelling, bad development, the first ten minutes were a flashback to young Diana and it was the best scene of the entire movie, made me believe Diana was going to relate to her past experiences and try not to cheat her way through life, but nothing made me feel like she learned anything. She whined and cried over Steve after (spoiler, duh) he comes back and has to die again. The resurrection of his character felt forced and unnecessary, and Barbara Ann Minerva was such a poor character. Pedro Pascal truly is the one who carried this movie, as he played an over the top Maxwell Lord, and even if the his goals didn’t make sense, his character had a full arc that, at the end, felt like it was given justice. Can’t say shy about Wonder Woman or Cheetah, who again, they did such a poor job with. Poor Kristen Wiig. This cast has way too much to talent to bring such a slow, lackluster story with barely any memorable scenes or action. DC’s only good movies are Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, and Shazam! And I can TOLERATE Birds of Prey. This movie was too pushed, and had so much expectation, but quite literally gave up before it even began, and it’s a damn shame.… Expand

I cannot believe I am giving this movie 4/10... the first one was so good, what happened!? Whose idea was this garbage and where do I even start? Whose idea was this garbage and where do I even start? OK, 40 min in and I already found few plot holes, tons of things make no sense including the villain. Why does he do what he do, what he was trying to achieve? Makes no sense. The "fish out of water" thing kinda wears off real quick and adds almost nothing to the story. The guy from WW2 does not know what fireworks are? seriously? Same with prologue part, has no reason to be there whatsoever.
There is a "teleportation" part in the middle, feels very out of place. And whole scene prior to that could have been easily removed, it adds nothing to story. There is also an anti-hero here that learns and can do stuff just in few hours, makes no sense.
The whole "wishing" thing does not make any sense as well, what if people wish opposite things? Or identical wishes? Bruce Almighty, anyone? (this is not spoiler, it is in trailers)

The Ending is not only stretched, (movie is definitely feels 20-ish min too long) but just overall weird and kind of anticlimactic, no cool scenes at all. And everthing comes back to normal like nothing happened. The whole movie feels like it does not need to exist. I am just so disappointed, I had faith in this movie and like 2020, it is a dumpster-fire.… Expand

Starts off great... Flashback scenes and action are great. The story is just abysmal and rudderless. It truly makes no sense and they try to loop in Cheetah (poorly cast). I really enjoyed this movie! Was it perfect? No. But it was a fun watch and I got to escape for 2 and half hours. Gal Gadot performance was great! Kristen, Chris and Pedro were amazing! I'm really looking forward to another sequel!

I was very excited for this movie when it was initially announced. I was even more excited when we were told it would be coming straight to HBOMax because of the pandemic. I thought it would be a nice Christmas present but boy wasBACKGROUND

I was very excited for this movie when it was initially announced. I was even more excited when we were told it would be coming straight to HBOMax because of the pandemic. I thought it would be a nice Christmas present but boy was I wrong. I honestly don't know how this movie made it off of the cutting room floor. STORY

The film has a double opening structure that artificially extends is ridiculously long length even more. from then on the movie begins to showcase the poor writing skills of director Patty Jenkins. The entire film is based around a Macguffin that basically every character wants for their own purposes. There is no explanation given for how the Macguffin even made it into the movie and why it is important. I guess it's meant for us to suspend disbelief. The Macguffin causes all kinds of trouble that WW now has to undo and by the end of the movie it becomes clear that nothing that happened in this movie will have any lasting effect on the future of the franchise. EFFECTS

The film's CGI isn't too bad overall. Kristen Wiig as Cheetah looks pretty good in my opinion. The main issue I had was with the wire work of the lasso effects and how WW uses them. It looks very low budget and they could have cleaned it up more. CHARACTERS

Wonder Woman is living her life as an Anthropologist at the Smithsonian in D.C. and for some reason still hasn't gotten over Steve Trevor despite him being dead for DECADES. Kristen Wiig plays Barbara Ann Minerva (Cheetah) who is basically a dorky scientists that wishes she was as beautiful and sought after as Diana. Pedro Pascal does his best as the sleazy, snake oil salesman Maxwell Lord. Steve Trevor is basically the same as the previous movie. The plot revolves around these 4 main characters and their interactions with the Macguffin. QUESTIONS -If WW can fly why didn't she use that ability in BvS or JL? -Why did WW swing between lightning bolts when she was already FLYING?
-Why does Maxwell Lord have an Asian son that has no purpose in the plot?
-What was the point of the Golden Armor when it is ripped to shreds so easily by Cheetah? -Why doesn't Maxwell just have someone wish Diana dead?
-Why is this movie so long? -What was the point of the Amazon Olympics opening sequence?
-Why did Steve Trevor inhabit some random guy's body and why was Diana ok with that?

MY SCORE:

4/10 this movie was totally unnecessary. The plot was incredibly stupid, the characters were very forgettable and this film did nothing to setup future installments. They've already announced a sequel in development. I sincerely hope they bring back the writers of the first movie and don't let Patty Jenkins anywhere near the script.… Expand

ISince the release of “Wonder Woman 1984” on Christmas day, I’ve largely been AFK–that’s geek speak for “Away From Keyboard”–and have no idea if it’s been getting praise from more mainstream critics. It won’t be getting any from me.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2017 installment, writing among other things:

“Hollywood finally got another superhero movie right (and it certainly took them enough tries). ‘Wonder Woman‘ strikes an impressive balance between action and comedy, and it does so in a way that is distinctly geared towards female sensibilities–a true rarity in the genre.”

The 2020 version, however, is just as disappointing as the year itself.

How writers Dave Callaham, Geoff Johns, and writer-director Patty Jenkins went from such highs to such lows is beyond my comprehension. Compared to the original, nothing in “Wonder Woman 1984” is compelling, from the storyline to the action sequences to the cinematography and beyond.

Taking just one brief burst of thirty seconds or so as a sampling, logic and continuity were repeatedly spurned as I thought to myself, “Why would a fighter jet be accessible to someone with Smithsonian clearance and just be sitting on a runway ready to go?” and “How could a World War I-era pilot possibly fly an 80s-era fighter jet?” and “Fighter jets can’t fly direct from Washington D.C. to Egypt without refueling” and “Since they just established that it happens to be the 4th of July (purely for the visuals, of course, not furthering the actual plot in ANY way) why was everyone else acting like it was a typical workday earlier?”

Again, because it bears repeating, all these complaints of mine are from a single sequence. If I were to type out everything I feel is wrong with “Wonder Woman 1984,” I’d wear out my keyboard.

The bottom line is that Jenkins & Co. seemingly got so infatuated with the idea of constructing a movie around the concept of the Monkey’s Paw that every other element had to be crowbarred into the theme, everything else be damned. It’s a shame, as the legacy of the Wonder Woman film franchise has forever been damaged by “Wonder Woman 1984,” making me wonder if Jenkins herself had previously wished upon the paw and is now paying the price.… Expand

Hmmm. That was bad.
Too long, flaky acting. Crap plot. Why do all the 10 raters only have 1 movie review? Because this movie sucks and they need to boost the ratings.
It started a bit goofy, and I can accept that. Go the comic book route andHmmm. That was bad.

It has a good professional finish. But the choices all seem to revolve around WW's need to get screwed. So much for the feminist, the strength, the role model that WW stands for....

Movie is not good at all. Its pretty bad. Its like watching the TV series not an actual movie. Wonder Woman before this one was really good this one sucks. I can't rate it higher than a 4 I couldn't even finish the movie its boring and feels cheap.

Look, its not the worst movie of all time but you would expect much more from a movie of this size and budget. The acting is decent but the action and CGI is horrible, Its very choppy and poorly choreographed. 1) Jeez DC you're better than this..this is NOT gonna help you on the "MARVEL Vs DC SCOREBOARD"
2) I am I being unfair? This IS a comic book movie.."suspension of disbelief" is necessary for any movie like this..right? BUT THIS MUCH?!
3) Thank God I didn't waste my time and money going to see THIS in the theatre I'm gonna give this a (very generous) 5..cuz I think I now understand the intended audience for this..which I can only imagine is elementary school girls..little girls obviously because the message is clear..today a woman can be anything..strong, smart, beautiful and the "hero". Instead of wanting around to be saved by men..Wonder Woman can be the savior all by herself. Nevermind that everyone from Disney to James Cameron has been trumpeting this same message..yet doing so in a way that doesn't insult one's intelligence. If it wasn't for the fact that I was watching it with my now teen daughter who saw the original a few years back and loved it..I think I would've turned it off right about the time a WWI Bi-plane pilot knew how to instinctively fly a modern jet that despite somehow being a museum piece was fully fueled, primed and prepped to make a non stop flight to Eqypt (that fact that it was able to turn invisible soon after takeoff seems almost plausible by comparison).… Expand
