Diana Prince portrayed as a shrinking violet over Steve. This whole movie is a mess from start to finish. If this had been viewed in a theater, I probably would have left early. I pushed through because my wife wanted to see it but even she fell asleep halfway through, and she's usually far better than I when it comes to shutting off the brain and enjoying mindless entertainment.

The bad DCU is back. They captured lightning in a bottle with the original Wonder Woman and Aquaman but now they're back to making terrible movies. I'd argue this is nominally better than Justice League and on par with the awfulness of Suicide Squad.

I see the "iF yOu DoN't LiKe iT uR a MiSoGyNiSt" brigade is rallying on Twitter to defend this travesty of a movie. It's a bad film and it would be a bad film if it was a male lead or a female lead. It has nothing to do with Gal Gadot or Kristin Wiig. Patty Jenkins does deserve all the criticism for this weak movie -- not because she's a woman but because she was the engineer and conductor of this trainwreck.

DC should just call it quits on their movie attempts.

My biggest complaint is that the Max Lord character is uninteresting, and not fun. Instead of making him a super bad, he is simply a guy who makes wishes come true. He character revolves around murky rules for wish-making, for example, why does Barbara get 2 wishes, but nobody else? And how exactly are the wishes killing Max, and how many is too many? It felt contrived, not well thought out. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine were good. So was Kristen Wiig, which surprised me a bit. But all three together were unable to save the poor script which was full of good wishes and positive messages, but extremely light on action and entertainment. The Cheetah character was great, but she and WW only had 2 fight scenes totaling about 5 minutes. She doesn't fully realize her powers and ability to be menace until the very end. And Cheetah is a sub-villian to the inferior Max Lord character, or a co-villan at best. She should have been the focus of the movie. I wonder if the producers felt pushed to make the movie feel good, because of Covid and general societal upheaving. You know what would have made me feel good? A good movie. Lastly, my wife and I had a good laugh at the prospect of making this movie a 1980s period piece. References to the '80s were few and far in-between. We decided that the whole reason for naming it WW 1984 was so they would have an excuse to dress Pine in a few ridiculous outfits for a total of about 30 seconds. It felt like false advertising. Loved Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Pedro Pascal but they felt wasted in this story. The part about her childood was pointless and pratically erased everything the first movie showed: a strong woman who isn't strong from the beginning and that has to owned it by training and making mistakes; this one shows a 10 year old girl who's stronger and better than anyone else (capable of competing with much older women) and that get disqualified by a technicality; don't make her compete as a child or, at least, make her compete against other children...i don't get it. She is strong yes, but the beauty of the first one was that she wasn't perfect, she had to grow, as a character and in her powers, in this one seems like she has nothing to learn anymore, and that the only thing that is stopping her are memories and that she has to let them go. I always hated the "losing my powers" story choice, cause it means that the character has reached his/her peak and that she's to strong for anybody, so the only way to make them struggle is to literally weaken them, and that's just poor writing. Sadly, Wonder Woman 1984 is its polar opposite. Terrible. The first hour and 20 minutes are excruciatingly slow. Then in the final hour it really picks up ... and becomes such a confused, inconsistent mess it'll make your head spin. Things just make no sense. Then there is the unfortunate fact that all men (except Steve Trevor) in this movie are groping sexual assaulters. One positive aspect of the first Wonder Woman movie was that it did not come off as a man-hating flick at all, in the way, say, Captain Marvel did. Wonder Woman was for everyone. Disappointingly, "Wonder Woman 1984" makes Captain Marvel seem as if it was produced by a men's rights club. It's hard to understand why Gal Gadot or someone else on set didn't say at some point, "This is just ridiculous." In any event, a real disappointment after the last Wonder Woman movie. Shockingly so. It gets 2 points. One for Gal Gadot and one for Chris Pine. They were great, but they had to act out an excretious tale. Expand

1) Steve takes over another person's body. Despite the fact that when he and Dianna make love, that's raping the body of another, lets not talk about family, friends, lovers missing their friend.

2) Dianna tells someone to "stay warm" at night, everyone is wearing fur and coats yet it says short time later that it's July?

3) A working, flyable fighter jet is just parked at a random museum. Planes are stripped before they're sent to museums.

Wonder Woman 2017 was easily my favorite DC movie so to see how this sequel panned out was very disappointing. I do think Gal Gadot and Pedro Pascal did a good job in their parts. This much-anticipated action adventure release misses the mark in so many ways that it's easy to lose count. The story was frequently derivative, the script played like it was written by a committee, the action sequences weren't especially engaging (and a little slow in coming), there were plot holes aplenty, the symbolism was obvious and heavy-handed, there was little to characterize the story (visually or thematically) as to the significance of its 1984 setting, and on and on and on it goes in endlessly lame ways. To be sure, Kristen Wiig delivers a fine supporting performance as a fence-straddling villain, and there are some nice sentiments worked in during the film's closing moments. But, compared to this film's far superior predecessor, director Patty Jenkins's ambitious but disjointed and flawed offering represents a big step backward for the franchise and its future (especially at a time when it can ill afford it). And, by the way, what was with that outfit Ms. Wiig wore in the closing sequence? It looked like a wardrobe reject from the movie version of "Cats." Expand

The director really undid any credit from the first movie, and I am sure Warner is claiming this is all due to Covid-19 and counting on the bailout to hide this failure. Given the 10s, the shills are out but nothing can cover-up how bad this is. Hell, they had to keep Gal showing a lot of skin during the entire movie to keep any interest and distract attention from things like the lasso dissapearing from both her hands and suddenly being coiled on her him in 1/10th of a second, or being normally dressed to being in WW costume in same amount of time (after she hops out of the car mid movie). This is a parody, not a real movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the original, and I've been suffering superhero fatigue since Age of Ultron. Despite this, I still have hope to see Darkseid properly adapted. Coming into WW1984, I was hopeful they could pull off the charm and dynamic from the original, but it just felt messy and awkward instead. I don't know who was hyping up the crew behind the scenes, but someone had to know about some of the story's glaring issues and the weird stuff going on with Steve. Like the main bad guy is just a genie that grants wishes. Anyway not good; 3/10 shouldn't watch, enjoy the original and the Snyder cut. Expand

This narrative basket-case lurches unevenly from one incoherent plot idea to the next without much hope of weaving the individual elements into any particular story, and not even Gal Gadot's gigawatt screen presence, physical acting chops, and the occasional franchise fan-service can rescue it. In the first movie, WW's final battle was against a literal god of war; this time around, her greatest opponent is both figuratively and literally a sad-faced cat lady, oh and human nature: from start to finish, the be-careful-what-you-wish-for trope is beaten into the audience with the heaviest hand imaginable. Whether it's teenage Diana cheating at Themyscira Ninja Warrior, or Pedro Pascal's Faust deciding what he really wanted was Mephistopheles's job, not even the hardest of thinking would miss the central (and only) lesson of this story. The rest of us might miss any semblance of philosophical ambiguity, nuanced allegory, or even simple character development and world-building; all things the first WW film delivered in spades.

Chris Pine is once again an entirely superfluous relic of Hollywood's infantile fear of letting a woman carry a film without an alpha male to remind her who she really is. This time around, though, he's looking a lot more like someone's tired dad than any kind of dashing-aviator-spy eye candy. And one with terrible taste in planes, choosing to nick a retired Tornado from IWM Duxford that's probably only held together with gaffer tape, when they've got a damn Blackbird sitting in the corner, and which he then flies himself with dreadful airmanship and total disregard for other airspace users. It's all especially galling given the subtle commentary intended by the original "invisible jet" with regard to roles expected of women.

The cat lady battle, overwrought moralizing, and the unnecessary Chris's poor choice of airborne metaphor, aren't even the worst of the creative decisions; dumping the awesome character theme from the first film is our household's consensus pick for the single most disappointing production blunder, leaving this effort a forgettable sonic squib by comparison.

Truly underwhelming stuff. I fervently hope that the showrunners do not squander the potential of the character, the acting range of their cast, or the intelligence of their audience so comprehensively next time around.

I was sadly very disappointed to see that Warner Brothers and DC still haven't gotten the message and continue to squander beloved characters, great casts on poorly executed and poorly written scripts and storylines. Only redeeming qualities are some well choreographed fight scenes that felt reminiscent of the first film and some of the art direction for Cheetah and Wonder Woman key scenes. Gal Gadot is still the picture esque modern Wonder Woman with a heart of gold. Everything else feels poorly pieced together and leaves you confused and left wanting something better. Some moments were almost satirical and I found myself laughing at moments that were designed to create tension (children in a road). Pedro Pascal does well working with a character whose motivations and powers grow faster than character development. Warner Brothers continues their tradition of mediocre superhero movies in a post Avengers world. That said if you are a fan of the superhero genre and already have a HBO Max account watch it with lowered expectations. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wonder Woman 1984.

Aka Wonder Woman: The Wishmaster.

...and I wish this film had not been made.

I was a staunch supporter of the first film's intelligence, style and coherence. Albeit with the acknowledgement that the final boss battle was terrible.

But this? How have they taken yet another promising DC ip and run it into the ground?

"Where is your joy? Your warmth...your humanity?" - Diana.

I literally felt that line as a fourth wall breaking observation on the film itself.

One professional critic was singing its praises for showing all the ways women can be strong...

In this film you have two examples....

1. Be born with super powers, so much so that you beat highly trained, athletic adult amazons at the age of 10.

2. Wish to turn yourself into a leopard woman.

Strong women indeed and both are fine, grounded and achievable examples for young women everywhere.

The. ****

The plot revolves around *wishes* which makes the stakes super ambiguous and ridiculous. The 80's setting is largely wasted by being completely politically inert and quite regressive considering the potential of a character that is Wonder Woman. She spends the entire film just wanting to be with her dead boyfriend and is the least impactful character in her own film. This stinks of garbage old white producers refusing to allow a woman superhero movie to actually be about something or try to say something. Pedro Pascal is fun, and hams it up in every scene, but his villainous motivation is completely stupid. DC movies are all pretty bad, and this one stings harsher after the first WW being mostly okay. It's 2 hours 30 minutes and it drags every second. The CGI is really lackluster and the potential of Kristen Wiig's Cheetah is completely wasted. I was almost never interested in what wasA massive slap in the face to what made the first movie decent. Everything here is even more boring than the first film plus the two and a half hour long runtime makes this film hard to get through. I was almost never interested in what was happening. There was a cool action scene in the desert and anything with Pedro Pascal was kinda entertaining but that was it. Gal Gadot does a worse job here than in the original Wonder Woman. For reference, I thought she was okay in the first Wonder Woman. Chris Pine was good in this but his reasoning for being in the film was dumb and he didn’t serve any purpose to the plot other than their chemistry was good in the first film. Their chemistry here is still good but Gadot’s weak performance stains it a little bit. Chris Pine is only in the movie for about less than 50% of the runtime. His appearance was pointless and they shouldn’t have included him at all. I thought Pedro Pascal did a good job with the material even though his villain is absolutely terrible. He doesn’t have any interesting motivations or ideas other than I wanna be all powerful. Pascal did a great job at making his villain incredibly over the top which at least made the film watchable when he was on screen. Hans Zimmer’s score was good too although it’s significantly weaker than his other musical scores. The films story is incredibly cliched and nonsensical with everyone getting what they wished for and absolutely no one wishes for certain things to happen? There is a wall that is put up in the Middle East and not one person in the world wishes for it to be taken down? It doesn’t make any sense. Since the film takes place in the 1980’s, I expected the film’s tone and visuals to be reminiscent of that era but there was almost nothing that told you this was the 80’s except the music and the cars. They could have made this movie so much better by leaning much much more into the 80’s tone but it chooses to go on the safe, predictable route. If you like the DCEU then you might get something out of this but any average movie fan can skip this and not worry about missing out on anything. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In few words, *it was bad as Captain Marvel*.
They tried to fit too much into this movie, 150 minutes of running time wasn't enough for that. They could have cut or shorten the cringe mall scene which contributes nothing to the plot. This movie suffers many plotholes, boring and cringe dialogues, forced dumb jokes, unfinished character developments and bad CGI.

- The main villain's son, who I don't even remember his name, is way off this movie. That kid can't even act. Well he's just there, because the main villain is supposed to have son...right.

- How can WW1 pilot control modern fighter jet easily? No fighter jet is parked ready to fly, with fully fueled. And no fully fueled fighter jet has a range to fly DC to Cairo. - Max returns to white house and immediately finds his son. From out of nowhere. How convenient.

- Ending is a huge mess.

WW84 is at least better than Suicide Squad, and Aquaman is a masterpiece compared to this movie.
WW84 is Captain Marvel of DCEU.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm guessing that after the poor critical response of Batman v Superman and the critical acclaim of Wonder Woman, Warner Bros must have thought of something any layman would have thought of at first glance: Zack Snyder cannot make Wonder Woman as nicely as Patty Jenkins can. So this time only Patty Jenkins was around to make this. This movie came on Prime yesterday and I finished it just now, so everything is still fresh in my memory. First of all, let's get the praises done with. This movie has amazing CGI and the action scenes are pretty well choreographed. With that said, let's move on to all the problems with this movie.
The beginning of the problems is Wonder Woman herself. First of all, her costume is way too bright. I think they probably reused the same costume that they used in Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman and Justice League. Since those movies had a darker colour palette, the bright costume was needed so that the costume's colours would be visible even after the bleak filter. Here however, she stands out of the crowd, something like a cosplayer. Secondly, in this movie Wonder Woman looks way too weak. In the previous movies she ran super fast and dodge bullets easily. She could rip guns without breaking a sweat. Now she actually gets hurt by bullets, gets blown away by a little wind and needs to use her full strength to break a simple lock. It's quite contradictory because in the beginning of the movie she is shown to toss away a speeding car by simply shanking it. Also her powers are very vague, but I will come to that point later.
The next big problem is the story. It's literally Bruce Almighty's plot (or God Tussi Great Ho if you're an Indian like me XD): Everyone gets their wishes granted which causes chaos in the world. Initially everything seems to be fine but slowly bad people start asking for bad things and now the whole world in on a brink of a nuclear war. So now everything has to be restored back to normal. And for that Wonder Woman has to let Steve die because he also came back to life because of her wish. This is what we call a superhero's sacrifice.
And finally the problem that bothers me very much - the plot holes in this movie. The idea that an artefact can make anything come true immediately is kinda unbelievable, especially if it's something like having more nuclear missiles or asking all the Irish people to be deported. There should have been some random events happening which finally lead to the consequences. I would have believed this if it was a Doraemon episode, but this is a movie that belongs to the same cinematic universe as Man of Steel or the prequel, Wonder Woman itself.
Like I said, Wonder Woman's powers are also very vague. And she gets them for no reason whatsoever. Just as she walks away from Steve, she suddenly gains the power to fly. It's impossible to tell whether she's flying or falling with style. She also swings on lightning bolts because why not. When she lands, she is wearing the Kingdom Come suit. Don't ask when she changed the costume. She uses her lasso to spin it around so fast that it can block bullets, but she can't use it to grab Max Lord immediately in the end. Speaking of Max Lord, why does wind start blowing when Max Lord starts granting everyone's wishes? What was the need for that to happen?
Even Cheetah's creation was so ambiguous. "I want to be different from everyone else, like an apex predator." - who talks like that? Her motivations were also not clear at all. She became strong like Diana, yes, but what now? Yes she lost her humanity, but that doesn't mean she should become insane. She could just be a normal person who doesn't care about anyone. Now I haven't read the comics so I don't know if this is the actual story from the comics, but they should have altered the story to fit in more with the tone, like how Harvey Dent was in The Dark Knight or Joker in, well, Joker. Alistaire was also a cliched "innocent child" who just wants daddy to come back home. And all the bad incidents that take place look so forced. It's almost like everything was deliberately made to go bad, like some Phineas and Ferb episode.
Most importantly, what was the whole point behind making this movie? No character development takes place, no big incident happens, no new character is introduced (the ones introduced are then abandoned). Out of everything that ever happens in it, the only major event is that Wonder Woman can now fly, which is something that could be introduced in some other movie also. It doesn't matter whether you like Zack Snyder or not, this movie is the final proof that removing him from DCEU was a mistake, even though it didn't seem like that before. While trying to remove the serious tone, they made it super childish. This movie is to Wonder Woman what Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is to Superman or Batman & Robin is to Batman. I hope DCEU doesn't make this mistake again.

The good: a couple scenes with Trevor which contained Gadot's best acting thus far, and some aerial scenes. I'd estimate 20 minutes of good scenes.

The bad: everything else. This is a SLOW movie, with barely any action in the first hour and a half, that at times feels like a Lifetime drama exploring the difficulties of being a woman. They could have cut a good 40 minutes from this movie. The comedy is awful, the villain makes no sense, every man in the movie is a horny creep, and the ending makes no sense. What we were left with was a 2.5 hour slog of lazy writing, poor character development, a glaringly inconsistent setting and an incredibly over-the-top and/or cheesy performance by a lot of the cast. It's a shame too because these cast members are usually quite excellent in other roles. Thanks to the lackluster visual effects, incredibly cringey writing and rather underwhelming directing, these top-grade talents seem more like they're performing dress rehearsals for a high school play.

WW 1984 absolutely not unfortunately as I was really looking forward to the sequel. The biggest problem is that 1984 completely lost the soul of the first one due to all of the very disappointing over acting. Is 1984 trying to be a slapstick comedy? An anagram of 80’s bad comedy movies? There are sections that are reminiscent of the first movie but there are too many hokey parts in 1984 that makes one wonder what the director was trying to illicit. Too bad. The music and costuming was pretty boring overall and there are several morally questionable decisions littered throughout the movie. The CGI wasn’t great and the actions scenes were mediocre at best. Expand

The storyline is a hot mess with more questions than answers by the end and not in a good way like with Inception.

Film is boring, I barely watched it all in one go (2h30min). Do not live up to the original one in any way. Story is boring, convoluted and not interesting. 1984 vibe is only felt in the beginning (mall scene). - and that is all I have to say about the movie itself. I'm not giving it lower score because of actors, they definitely tried... Pine and Gadot duo is fantastic but still lacking something from the original, Pascal acting too is not that bad, but it is too little to safe entire movie. Rest of the cast is just forgettable. Film only for hardcore fans.

It feels like the writers gave up. It’s inconsistent and all over the place.

This is a terrible film.
Bad writting, bad acting, horrible action scenes, bad cgi.
Did i mention direction? No, because there is no direction. It's all over the place. Did anyone see this movie before they released it? Why release something

Why release something that bad?
How on earth is that possible?

A confused, contrived story held together not by character development or conflict and resolution, but one giant, gaping plot hole after another. After a colourful, entertaining opening - in which we get to see Robin Wright return as Antiope and remindingus how fun the first movie was, unfortunately all too briefly - the film devolves into a plodding 70 minutes of dull nothing. There is absolutely no need for this movie to be two and a half hours. Maybe there was a well meaning sentiment to make an 80s style superhero movie, but it picked the wrong ones. This was most certainly not Superman 1 and 2. This stared like Superman 3 then devolved into Superman 4. A steaming hot mess. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. At a point I started thinking like when this movie will end even though few scenes were good - ww running after denouncing her wish and the truck flipping - apart from these scenes ww84 is just a crap and it levels with JL. Hans Zimmer did good but not his best, I love the acting of Pedro Pascal and Gal Gadot. Screenplay and direction would have been better. Expand

I wished this movie was better. So many problems with this movie it does mess up the continuity. The action scenes aren't great the CGI is terrible.

Unfortunately this Wonder Woman was a few steps below her first adventure. I would not recommend this movie unless you get it for free.
