I went in to this movie thinking it would be at least average to decent, and I ended up being blown away. Definitely not a critic's movie, but that's not who this was for anyway. As a lifelong Nintendo gamer that's played basically everyI went in to this movie thinking it would be at least average to decent, and I ended up being blown away. Definitely not a critic's movie, but that's not who this was for anyway. As a lifelong Nintendo gamer that's played basically every Mario game, I enjoyed the unique presentation of the characters, the great animation quality, the medley of classic Mario music, and most of all the countless references both obvious and obscure that are crammed into every scene. It reminded me of why I enjoy Nintendo games; and specifically, the Super Mario series. Illumination and Nintendo somehow managed to catch the magic of the games with this film, and I had a blast watching it (so much so that I saw it twice!).
My main criticism was the non-Mario music that felt out of place at times, the pacing was a bit off, and the post credits scene could probably have been more than just a few seconds of teaser. But these were harmless non-issues for me that didn't detract from the overall experience. 9/10, but I'm marking 10/10 just to help further contrast the User Score with the Critic Review aggregate. There is obvious love and care that went into this film, and it's being rewarded with tremendous financial success. Any movie that can you make smile ear to ear for its duration deserves as much.… Expand

I didn't have high expectations for this movie, but it ended up being really nice! I loved it, and my 9-year-old daughter loved it even more. They did a good mix with between the franchises Mario and Donkey Kong.

Amazing fan service. Lovingly and carefully written interpretations of the characters. It is obvious Nintendo took great care in supervising Illumination and crafting a film that would appeal to fans and kids alike. Mario and Peach areAmazing fan service. Luigi has an arc, though he could easily have been given more screen time. Toad, DK, and Kamek were all fine. Loved all of the easter eggs and the film’s fast pace will help it on repeat viewings. A really good movie. It has amazing animations, is full of fun, has tons of fan-service and just wants to entertain. Also Jack Blacks performance as Bowser is more than memorable. Also Jack Blacks performance as Bowser is more than memorable. Don't believe the critics as this movie is their nightmare. It shows that if you make what fans want and stay away from politics you get a successful movie. Atop of this it is not even anti woke. Princess Peach is a strong and independent woman without harming her character, fan expectations and the enjoyment of the movie. She is awesome. Is it perfect or an all time classic? No but it is a breath fresh air or returning to old style when Disney and Pixar are failing. The story starts with Mario and Luigi who are plumbers in Brooklyn. They risk financially everything to start their own company and are drawn into the adventure. I stop here. The story is fateful to the source material and there is so much to discover. There are tons of Easter eggs and as Mario and Nintendo fan you will be amazed. As warning: It is entertaining if you are not that familiar but is a weaker experience(Tested with a friend that is familiar with just the basics). The animations are gorgeous to watch. All characters and the world are colorful and look like you imagined it. The voice actors fuilly deliver and I praise them all. The soundtrack is full of familiar Mario themes and they use a few pop songs. Those fell a bit forced but I don’t mind. Overall this is a must see movie. It is cementing Universals victory over Disney in animated movies. They beat them in their bread and butter category. I give a 9/10 as is weaker than the best animated movies of all time. Be warned: Not sure if this is an effect like eating normal food when starving (= Taste better than everything) because the animated movies before set the bar low.… Expand

I will criticize Nintendo when Nintendo deserve it and praise Nintendo when they deserve it too. This has to be the most self-aware film ever. The film knows exactly who it is representing.
If you love Mario, you'll love this film. The animation is beautiful art, the music and soundtrack are fantastic, the whole thing has been handled with immense care. This movie is a love letter and thank you to Super Mario fans.
Ignore the critics. They give bad movies good reviews a lot too you know. Peach is a boss and the movie is great.

Nintendo wins again. I really felt the love and care, and everyone trying their best w this film. 10/10!!… Expand

It shocked me how good this film is and deserves to be the best video game movie of all time. Though it was quite fast paced which made it a nine out of ten for me. But thats the only bad thing about it. Besides chris pratt mario. With the funny jokes and references to other games, this truly is a fantastic movie which i highly recommend to people who read this to go watch. You will not be disappointed by this film. Nintendo fans would enjoy this more since there's more understanding on whats going on with non nintendo gamers not knowing the references in the movie. With the best part being the fact they finally showed us where the blue shell came from. When the blue shelled koopa used it on Mario and donkey kong to stop them. Overall, a amazing experience that i will never forget. This is a really wholesome movie to me, how much detail and story that was crammed into a 92 minute movie. Some parts even made me cry just from being so nostalgic to me. I was there with the series when i got my hands on a DS and Wii back when i was young, the memories i made playing those mario games came back through this movie. Thats why its this good, the childhood memories of playing on your DS and Wii games that are Mario games really make this movie more fun to watch and understand. Like how Mario and Luigi throughout their whole life, people telling them they won't succeed. But show them that when there together, nothing is impossible. And felt that connection with my own brother since i was always being picked on when i was small but he was there to protect me like how when young Luigi was building a castle out of bricks and another kid destroys it and Mario comes help him. Thats why this movie is great. It has some really good backstory elements sprinkled in there. The super Mario bros movie is something you don't want to miss out on.… Expand

A frantic and entertaining movie!

NO NARRATION!!

I literally can't think of what people expect or wanted more out of a "Super Mario Bros" movie plot.

I do think the licensed music was mostly pointless. Doesn't detract but feels tacked in.

Para los que no están familiarizados con Mario y compañía puede resultarles ser una película animada más del montón, pero para los que somos fans de toda la vida fue sencillamente maravilloso de principio a fin, fidelidad completa hacia la franquicia de videojuegos, muchas pero muchísimas referencias hacia los juegos y un Fan Service jamás antes visto.

This film accepts that Mario - despite the fantasy setting - is simple, joyful, and fun. The film's simple message that what makes Mario special is that he never gives up no matter how many times he fails is also true to the Mario games and, while not particularly edgy or deep, is still a good message for children. I had my concerns about Chris Pratt and Seth Rogan's clear disinterest in actual voice acting. Well, I admit it, I was wrong. They're fine. Their performances never rise to the level of Jack Black's Bowser but they don't distract from the experience either.

This is much more than a cheap nostalgia smash and grab. Nintendo is clearly invested in the long term success of Mario and this, along with the theme parks, is the next step towards something more.… Expand

From the graphical style, the characters (of course), the voices, the music/sounds, the plot, etc. to the easter eggs (which made me tear up)... EVERYTHING breathes Nintendo and it's amazing for real Nintendo & Mario fans. A MUST SEE!

Masterpiece for long time fans. I can’t really fault it. Full of charm, nostalgia and the perfect plot for Mario+Luigi. Animation and voice cast also spot on. An absolute blast from start to finish. A fun and crazy non-stop ride with some of the best animation I've seen to date. Nintendo x Illumination definitely made an incredible work.

I wanted to share my thoughts on the new Mario Brothers movie that has recently been released. I have seen the film and I have to say, it is great! However, I have been disappointed to see that the critics have been giving it bad reviews.

ItI wanted to share my thoughts on the new Mario Brothers movie that has recently been released. I have seen the film and I have to say, it is great! However, I have been disappointed to see that the critics have been giving it bad reviews.

It seems to me that the critics are biased against the film and have an agenda to make it fail. They have been overly critical of the film, nitpicking at every little detail and ignoring the overall enjoyment factor of the movie.

I believe that the new Mario Brothers movie is a great addition to the franchise. The storyline is engaging, the characters are well-developed, and the visuals are stunning. The movie is a perfect blend of action, adventure, and comedy that will keep you entertained from start to finish.

Furthermore, the film does an excellent job of staying true to the original Mario Brothers games while also adding new elements to keep it fresh and exciting. The movie is a love letter to the fans of the franchise, and it shows in every scene.

In conclusion, I highly recommend that you go see the new Mario Brothers movie. Don't let the biased critics deter you from enjoying a great film. It's a fun and entertaining movie that the whole family can enjoy.

Maybe one of the best game adaptations of the last 20 years. As with the Mario games so much love for detail. Good story and phenomenal soundtrack. Here we go! Finally!
Very good fun film and respecting the universe of Mario. They captured the essence of the game perfectly. They got the trick. Bravo!
The first really successful adaptation of a video game to the cinema.

Now this had my expectations very low but my nephews love Nintendo and Mario games they wanted to see Mario. I was very very happy that I went to see this film. I was very very happy that I went to see this film. It was funny, it had charm and definitely one the best video game to films to date. Nothing bad with this film and more importantly the voice acting is the big surprise for me. This film is highly recommended if you love Mario or video games in general, Nintendo live action Mario in the 90s was okay but this film did the Italian plumber justice. It's a great film from Nintendo and I hope Nintendo brings more popular franchise to the big screen.. Zelda maybe? A perfect 10 for me.… Expand

Went in with low expectations because there hasn't been a great Mario Bros. movie yet. Exceeded the expectations. Visually appealing. Lots of game references in the visuals and the soundtrack. Lots of fun little Easter eggs from past games. Hoping they create a new game with some elements/levels/storyline from this movie. I don't know what all the fuss about the accent was. All the voice actors did a good job, even Chris Pratt. Glad they kept it as originally planned. Excessive catering to critics and fans can make things worse. (Star Wars prequels AND sequels *cough *cough). A fair nostalgic flick. Probably 4* in reality, but giving 4.5 because there really isn't much to criticize. As others have mentioned, the plot was a little simplistic, but I think they did a great job with the time they had. Probably didn't want to spend 2+ hours watching a Mario Bros. movie, so if you accept it for what it is, it is worth a watch if you are a Mario fan. Also, I never would have thought I would say this, because it's a cartoon, but I'm glad I saw it in the theater. The sound and visuals were well done and it made it far more enjoyable than if I had waited for a streaming or disc release.… Expand

Countless themes from the Mario video game universe are seamlessly woven together in this visually epic extravaganza. Quite a few laughs supplement the visually stunning odyssey. The only downside is the last half hour is a little too eager to wrap up and throws few curveballs at the viewer. Overall a fantastic experience.… Expand

The movie hits all the right notes with a tremendous amount of fan service that will please longtime fans of the Mario series as well as longtime Nintendo fans in general. I’m sure it will take multiple repeat viewings to find every reference crammed into this film. The Super Mario Bros movie is a very wholesome and family friendly movie about good overcoming evil and finding inner strength to overcome fear. The voice over performances are top notch especially for the mario brothers and bowser. Chris Pratt did a fantastic job trying to balance a voice somewhere between the video games and a brooklyn accent and comes off very fitting and likable. Jack Black likewise did an excellent job not only sounding intimidating as big bad bowser but also funny and comedic.

The film itself is also gorgeous with some of the most colorful and detailed animation. It’s a real treat for the eyes and really brought the mushroom kingdom to life.

I highly recommend this film for anyone looking to see a fun family movie that was clearly made for fans but can be enjoyed by anybody.… Expand

Don't listen to the critic reviews on this one. I'm an 80's kid who grew up with Mario and Luigi, and I took my kids to see this. It's great all around. Very fun, if you're on the fence because of bad reviews, go see it.

I loved this movie, it was very fun and exactly what a Nintendo fan wanted to see. The best and most favorite part is the Kong/Jungle Kingdom section. Es maravillosa, me llevó de regreso a mi infancia, es Mario en estado puro, no pretende inventar nada y por eso es perfecta, la música, la animación, los personajes son perfectos. Si te gustan los videojuegos te va a encantar.

I really enjoyed it. it might not have a deep story but nobody expected to have one, the story is fun and full of easter eggs of the nintendo world, that's what the fans expected to see.. the animation was spectacular, I really recomend it.
