The sequel actually slows down the story a bit, with a lower jokes-per-second rate and a little more time for contemplation. But instead of making the new film smaller or duller, it leaves room for a little more sophistication. They’re adept at flicking a dozen jokes in different directions in the same minute of screen time. Kids will enjoy it and adults will appreciate that the filmmakers took it seriously, and tried to say something meaningful. Another tune, “Super Cool,” plays over the end credits simply to extol the coolness of end credits. Lego 2 never stops, which is part of the problem. Can there really be too much of a good thing?
