Absolutely brilliant! Zac effron and zendayas on screen chemistry is absolutely perfection, not to mention their voices along side hugh Jackman, and wide range cast all which can sing, making every single song in this movie pure magical. I love the music and the naive, fairytale atmosphere. The story is effectively about a man who never fully grew up. The end was too abrupt and each scene felt disconnected. This needed to go harder on the movie treatment and lighter on theatre.

I saw some people who were complaining that he"s meant to be a good guy. I think people need to start learning about what makes a character. He's a protagonist and a likable one. But a perfectly good protagonist is a poorly written protagonist. This protagonist is very flawed. He makes bad choices, but you're meant to remain hopeful. This character is strongly rooted in his humanity. He isn't a hero.… Expand

I enjoyed the songs and the cinematography present in this film. The story was one I wasn't familiar with and I enjoyed it overall, even though/if it was perhaps a little cheesy. Makes me want to watch it again. I have never written a movie review before but this movie is just perfect to watch with our family on Christmas day. The Greatest Showman is a “biography” about P.T Barnum. The music is subpar but the film is interesting enough to keep you engaged. Hugh Jackman did a fantastic job playing Barnum. Overall, the film was pretty good, but nothing special.

Amazing movie, amazing songs, didn't see such a great movie in years!

This was magnificent piece of art, music and deep story. The actors did a perfect job. The songs were so amazing. I really liked that not every sentence was delivered by singing, but that there were just regular speaking parts and songs between. So even if you are not into musicals its very good movie for you. The songs and the energy in them were just awesome. There was not even a second where I would feel bored or not entertained. The story is amazing as well. Although some people may say the main character is in real life not as amazing as in the movie or was just selling not a real truth, well I am here not to judge, everyone has his opinion and no matter how it was, I just take it as it was inspired by some person with a great idea and its not documentary about his life so as a movie if its totally true or not, I dont think it matters. As a movie the story was amazing and very deep. I think everyone should see this movie. I wanted to watch it again right away after it finished.… Expand

I really love this movie. I saw allot of critics speaking negatively about this movie. And they do have some valid points. The meaning of the story is great. But I could have been made better into the movie in my oppinion.

AWESOME movie. I dont even care to watch alot of musicals but this was Amazing!!! My wife and I and both kids LOVE it we've seen it about 20 times and can sing all the songs. The Greatest Showman. This is an amazing show! A beautiful movie that in a good sense is filled with no less amazing songs that remain in my head for a long time. Michael Gracey and the whole team was able to make a truly colorful musical.

After seeing the high user ratings, I had high hopes for this film and I was not disappointed. The Greatest Showman stars Hugh Jackman who plays a real man P.T. The Greatest Showman stars Hugh Jackman who plays a real man P.T. Barnum and how he "changed" entertainment. Speaking of entertainment, this film boasts with it. Although it suffers from being too cliche and corny, The Greatest Showman has stunning visuals, acting, and fantastic music. Everything plays out very nicely in this film and although it has multiple sub-plots, it is is very easy and fun to follow.

One of my favorite musicals of all time and I feel it is one of the best musicals ever made. The story and screenplay were fantastic. The scenery and set designs were great. The soundtrack is one of my top 5 favorite movie soundtracks of all time and one of my favorite albums of all time. The acting performances were stupendous especially Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson as well as Keala Settle, Sam Humphrey, and Paul Sparks. I only could see negative about this movie that it wasn't based on true story, and I guess many who ended up giving a bad vote are audience of Honest Trailers who have to find every single fault of any movie and ridicule it, easy for you to do when all your content is basically recycling criticism as if it was discovered yesterday.

Every movie has its own faults and in the internet age everyone has gotten so hyper critical about everything even as shiny as this movie was on it's performance and music, it still got a large sum of people who were upset about music and plot. This is the same audience who praises old movies like American Pie because it was born before internet age because it happens to have 1 nude scene, the same audience who went to watch all of the sequels because you guessed it, boobs.

Get a **** reality check everyone. This movie deserves at least 8.5 score.

If movie like Fifth Element was made today it would receive audience score of 6 if not worse, but because it's old classic it has to be rated ~9, you got to be joking me.

You want me to tear down Fifth Element to pieces?

1. Plot takes forever to take place after first introduction.

2. The smaller main villain looks ridiculous with his fake plastic face. Looks like the suit was made in 10 minutes after knitting few curtain cloths together. The guy almost choked himself. 3. The world is saved by some retired special forces guy because apparently world has run out of special forces units...?

4. First action for everything, lets just shoot at it.

5. Priests are still a thing in year 3000.

6. How isn't the military aware of the ancients and their technology? I thought military was supposed to be aware of dangers that could expose humankind to destruction?

I mean military even warns about damage caused by climate change and it's not really their specialty.

7. The fact this supposed super weapon to defeat evil has to be located on earth... for some strange reason.

8. Why does every scifi movie have to be some ends day doom scenario that ends the world?

9. Artificially build tension for last seconds. I kinda get how the main bad guy is a planet and everything. But whole reason why the planet was forming so far out of solar system was just to build the tension of it reaching earth where world could be ended if the plant just formed couple seconds closer to earth.

If you look at Fifth Element it has all the stereotypical plot devices from action movie where bomb is replaced by the super weapon, time is replaced by how close the planet is, main villains are your stereotypical bad guys who just want to harm people, every movie has some average Joe Nobody who used to be though guy return to service just for 1 last mission while he's struggling with his private life. Scifi is just there for added spice into the movie, but over 50% of the scifi is just added annoyance that's not even pleasing to watch.

Just for example the Ruby Rhod who is this outspoken black guy with weird hair is just a comedic relief where everyone goes like "yeah show that talking head that guns go boom, he so scared", where have we seen this before? Pretty much every single action movie where some person watching the show is out of touch of how the real world operates, gets shown by the main hero how the "real world" operates, further progressing the idea that a nerd who doesn't solve his problems with violence is somehow weak individual while some barking dog who punches every guy who doesn't please him is a though good guy who fights for the weak, it's not like world is brainwashed by the media enough, the movie just propagates bad messages all over the place.

So yeah it's easy for anyone to break the ice and find problems on every single movie, unless it's literally documentary, and even then there's probably problem with pacing for some individuals, just look how poor reviews the First Man got (7.4/10) from Metacritic.

I guess only way to reach above 9 score is to embrace brainless entertainment these days and have a joke every 10 minutes otherwise audience of mouth breathing 10 year olds get bored.

And then people criticize why Marvel is always making their movies so deliberately unserious, well when you get a serious movies like the Infinity War 1 or 2, they get immediately criticized for minor details or not having enough action or there being too much action.

Take a **** step back already from your ivory towers of criticism and ask yourself how would you make the movie any better and how many would be willing to pay to watch it?

If you actually would want to watch something new, well it's been tried many many times and nearly everyone in the audience HATED IT, as this movie clearly shows.… Expand

Okay, like other musicals like Oliver, Grease, Footloose and many more, they are bursting to go see a musical in cinemas when they saw the trailers of it. The result would be The Greatest Showman and they love it to death. The result would be The Greatest Showman and they love it to death. They can't stop singing the songs and they can't stop talking about it. I mean, love it, I mean, obsessed. Someone has recommending me to watch it and you know what? I did. And I gotta say that I love it and I gotta say that the songs are really impressive. I still gotta say that I'm not a huge gigantic fan of the new songs that people have put out in Capital FM and many other radio's. I can tell now that they don't make the songs sound old fashioned anymore at least sometimes. Much like the live-action Beauty and the Beast, the songs make this movie the highlight. Hugh Jackman is great as P. T. Barnum and Zac Efron is once again doing a musical since High School Musical and Hairspray. They're both fantastic in this. Did you know that the idea of this is when Hugh Jackman is singing at the beginning of the Oscars in 2009? Well, I know that after I've finished the film. The Greatest Showman is something that many people cannot stop talking about and singing the songs and is something that is recommended for people who are hugest fans of musicals like I am. The songs are very memorable and my favourite song out of all of them is got to be "From Now On". Don't you just love Hugh Jackman's singing voice? And the dancing is great and you can't go wrong here. The only flaw the movie has is the fact that the critics didn't like it mostly getting mixed reviews but for me, I have absolutely no idea. You can tell that Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert are not around anymore. So anyways, it's very well choreographed and crafted and a dream come true for everyone who's got the album. Hey, hopefully they'll make a musical play out of it.… Expand

This movie felt like a total chore to watch at first but after the first act it picked up really fast and started to be entertaining and hearth warming and dramatic at the same time, as the story started to break off in to smaller plots. It was very well executed from this point of view. The cinematography, directing style where a masterpiece. This really is a piece of art if we are to consider the musical elements only. But sadly the immersion was not on point and the musical performances broke off all the story and immersion once it started growing. The plot was not very deep but it was well done. The actors however where the true stars with their performances on the characters assigned to them and all the singing and very frame perfect choreographed dance scene. The romance was definitely there in it's strong element as they showed forbidden love from multiple angles, and not all happy endings. Somehow the the ending was not cheesy nor cliche which is weird, but it proves that this was a very well cared movie even with all of it's really big faults.
Overall this was a good movie but it could have been a lot better if where more immersive and entertaining. Ohh yeas and the practical visuals where amazing as well, and the stunts executed where mind blowing. Props for the stunt men!… Expand

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It's a very kind portrait of P.T.Barnum. Depending on how much you know of his history, it may seem too kind. Its idealistic show business telling a story of.. idealistic show business dreams.. fun meta conversations to be had after watching! I can't say my top value is showing off or appearing different.. looks are not everything.. this seems to be a show that tries very hard to look good which also saying that we shouldn't judge by looks.. but then we need to appreciate and be entertained by people that look or are different? Don't think to hard about it and you may enjoy it more.. which is probably how one could to view the circus as well.… Expand

I only saw this film on the basis that the alpha male of the street said it was okay, I was drawn into the story and the music, which has now become household in the uk. To the people who's critique is based on the fact that the movie is not historically accurate, this is a movie, not a documentary, and it's in no way promoted as one, so hold the phone there. The Greatest Showman is as inspiring is it is fun, if you just give in to the fact that you're not going to watch a on point description of the life of P.T. Barnum. The music and songs that comes with it make it a movie worth watching again. The main flaw, and the reason I can't give it an even higher grade, is the extreme tempo in which the story is being told. Put one extra hour in, even 30/45 minutes to create some depth and better explain some of the details in the story, and this could have become an instant classic. Hugh Jackman did pretty much everything right, and there is still no better actor in Hollywood to play the role of dancing, singing, acting multitalent than Zac Efron. Time for him to step in an Academy Award worthy role. In all, a very good movie, that could have been great with a little more patience and a little less rush.… Expand

Spectacular! Absolutely amazing! Great messages of forgiveness and equality for everyone. The plot line was almost as good as La La Land and it's soundtrack was just as good if not better. I highly recommend The Greatest Showman!

Hugh Jackman is the reason you will keep watching. But by the end of the movie, you'll be glad you did, for everything else.

Don't listen to the critics. This isn't a historical documentary. It's a show (with a heart) and it's a good one.

I mean its a movie, come on guys it's not a big deal! The dances and the choreography was quite decent. My children loved the movie so much and I loved the movie so much! It will be one of my favorites!! Some parts made P.T. Barnum seem like a good guy but in real life he wasn't the best man. I did like what they turned P.T. Barnum! I don't mind that the whole story in the movie isn't based of the true story. If it was then it would be a really depressing musical and that would be a thumbs down. My overall review would be that I really really liked the movie and I feel that you should do, the songs are super catchy and get stuck in your head. The story had some inspiration and some romance (no sexual scenes) the movie is great for kids. P.S. ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS IS THE OTHER SIDE BY THE WAY!… Expand

I don't think I've ever been so obsessed with a film before, I simply can't get enough of it. Everything about it was simply sensational and I had chills through every song. Unfortunately, many of the events that took place during the film are not exactly historically accurate. All things aside, the lack of historically accuracy did not take away much from the film. The "musical" aspect of the film was not overwhelming and appealed to all people in my party at the theater and not just the musical fans. The story line is simply accompanied with music sung by the cast that is relevant to what is going on in the film. It is not too "Musically". I believe that the movie was beautifully casted and would not look to change much about that.… Expand

This was definitely a fun, well-meaning, and upbeat feel-good musical. With that being said however, it was pretty formulaic and predictable for the most part, and some of the songs were rather mediocre (I personally found 'This is Me' to be rather overrated and not particularly memorable), but I will say that most of them were very good. Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, and the rest of the cast we're all a delight to watch of course too. Overall, it wasn't anywhere near what the critics would have you believe it is, but it also wasn't spectacular either in my opinion. It was just a very upbeat and well-made film that put a smile on my face for enough of it.… Expand

I haven't even seen that many movies in 4 years and those were Star Wars and Jumanji. Each time I go I take someone new. A great spectacle, unbelievable camera work and I have no words for the music and choreography. I woke up after first seeing it with the music in my head, like what??? But immediately bought it and everyone who has seen the movie or ridden with me loves the soundtrack. I know a lot of critics harp on how awful Barnum really was, but that has squat to do with this movie. This is entertainment, not a biography. Pure fun rollicking make you move, sing, smile, laugh entertainment. And I saw one 0 review, they hated the music and the dancing. I know every one has different tastes, but I know for a fact I would not like that person. Wow, seriously? If this can't make you enjoy yourself for a bit of time and the song and dance, I really would be scared to meet you. This is heartwarming, fun, has good messages for this day and time and is one of the top 3 movies I have ever seen. Don't listen to naysayers, they are all dead inside if they aren't even a bit positively affected by this show.… Expand

I didn't expect the first 25 min would be entirely singing, I came into the movie knowing nothing about it also. But I thought the movie told the story of PT greatly. Favorably speaking i wish Zendaya had more of an important role than she did, i also thought Zac Efron played his role very well. Overall the movie was great, the characters showed their talent and portrayed their characters very well. I would advise everyone to watch it, especially if you are a musical fan. I am not sure if it is worth the $10+ to see it, so I will advise either seeing it on a deal day depending on your movie theater, or waiting till it is on Netflix/Redbox.… Expand

The Greatest Showman is a stunning achievement that is being marginalized for its crowd pleasing tendencies. I am going to compare this to La La Land in which the former has reinvogarated the musicals, yet have casts, brilliant that they were who couldn't sing or dance. The Greatest Showman, Jackman included, is the complete opposite. These are casts that are more suited to a musical, with singing and dancing skills on the level on any Broadway shows around. Headlining this is obviously Jackman himself in a tour de force performance, singing and dancing away. This along with stellar casting: Michelle Williams, Zach Efron, Zendaya and the rest made this an unforgettable experience. The soundtrack is absolutely great and are literally the heart and soul of this film. It will leave you toe tapping your way out of the theater.… Expand

If you liked the Fame movie (1980) or the best parts of the Step Up series, this is for you. Better than the Step Up installments I've seen. I liked it quite a bit more than La La Land. Where La La narratively adheres to telling a realistic tale of lovers coming together--then coming part in Los Angeles, Showman is burdened with no such reality to conform to. Barnum's life is skillfully made into a series of familiar narrative tropes which give weight and gravity to almost non-stop sing-dance numbers which really fly. "Hit it out of the parK" in a baseball phrase. If you remember Stomp on YouTube or on stage, still playing in NYC stomponline.com, some numbers in Showman have the same precise musicality of sound effects; and, random background sounds are always musical. If you thought the directorial challenges of tone etc in La La Land were formidable, I did too. All those challenges plus more and done mostly better here in Showman. I love Hugh Jackman. This is him in top Broadway form. Showman offers a "great moment in cinema," the scene where Zac Efron is introduced to Zendays on ultra-slo-motion trapese. Check the stills to see this in its full beauty with the underlighting of her body. For me, Showman revealed two new female stars, Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson. Hit it out of the park. I watched an hour interview on FX Guide with directory Michael Gracey. I felt he had integrity, another typical introverted genius type I can relate with.… Expand

Is not every movie that makes me smile from the minute one. The opening is so powerful, the story is well explained and the music was so perfect. Go watch it!

This movie is definitely worth watching. One scene I found useless was the background of P.T Barnum, the movie would have gone perfectly without it. Another factor that I found a little unrealistic is the fast pace that Philip and Anne's relationship takes. However, the rest of the movie is pretty fun. The songs in this movie were the best part because I just couldn't stay still in my seat, they are so catchy and very goodly written.

Give this rating a thumbs up if you liked it and have a good one!… Expand

This movie is nothing like "La La Land." If you absolutely loved "La La Land," you probably won't like "The Greatest Showman." However, I was not a huge fan of "La La Land," and I found "The Greatest Showman" to be absolutely brilliant. ItThis movie is nothing like "La La Land." If you absolutely loved "La La Land," you probably won't like "The Greatest Showman." However, I was not a huge fan of "La La Land," and I found "The Greatest Showman" to be absolutely brilliant. It follows the life of P.T. Barnum and the creation of the circus. In comparison to "La La Land," "Showman" had amazing music with deeply moving lyrics. "Showman" also had important things to say, when "La La Land" did not. "Showman" is a celebration of individuality and encourages its audience to not only follow your heart, but to follow your conscience. It also places great emphasis on family. The story is very well done and the characters are well portrayed and somewhat have depth. But again, I hated "La La Land." If you enjoyed "La La Land," you will probably not like "Showman." They really have little in common.… Expand

Great story, plotline, soundtrack. Incredibly sweet movie. Very suitable to be a family movie. Sing, sing and sing while watching this movie.

The narrative flow is a bit awkward. The film is hamstrung by the need to lead into the next song, most of which are accompanied by music video style dance numbers. On the other hand, unlike many musicals, the actors aren't singing all the dialogue, which is something that frequently annoys me in musicals. In addition, the songs are actually really good, in fact I found some stuck in my head and downloaded the album, I've listened to it all the way through 4 times and it gets better every time. I feel like if musicals are your thing you will absolulety love this movie, so I give it 9/10.… Expand

Most of the core complaints against this film seems to be that of the differences between P.T. Barnum in real life and PT Barnum in the film, played wonderfully by Hugh Jackman. The movie starts off really well and it does leave you with someMost of the core complaints against this film seems to be that of the differences between P.T. Barnum in real life and PT Barnum in the film, played wonderfully by Hugh Jackman. The movie starts off really well and it does leave you with some clues to who PT Barnum was before he became the "Greatest Showman," the problem really lays in the middle where two many plot lines, subpolots, ect start to intertwine and the film starts to feel overwhelming. However, the film really starts to pick back up towards the end where alot of the enjoyment really can be had. The movie is very solidly made, it could have benefited from a more polished director but the cast (Jackman, Efron, Zendaya, to name a few), visuals, set pieces and score give the movie the boost it needs to recover from a murky middle.

What is the job of a film critic.
I thought it was to guide us, the paying public, on what we should spend our time and money on. They have made fools of themselves with this one.

If I was their editor I would be hauling them in my office and asking what the hell is going on. You slate a film and instead of people agreeing with you, the word spreads like wild fire that it's a must see !
And as for the critics who wrote " it won't be remembered for very long".
When the stage musical comes out ( as it surely will ) and people are standing and cheering, they are going to look like complete fools , just like the ones who back in the day said Les Miserables wouldn't last more than six weeks!… Expand

I don't get why this is aclamied as a mixed or average film by the critics, this movie is good. The best thing are the musical sequences and the songs. They're amazing with a amazing and hyperactive mode and the performances are great. TheI don't get why this is aclamied as a mixed or average film by the critics, this movie is good.
