This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie was exciting and all, but it suffers from the lack of a plot unless a main character does something unnaturally stupid. Also the multiverse thing doesn’t make much sense, why just spiderman characters? Why only 2 and not 7 billion different versions at the same time? What makes peter decide its ok to try to fix everything without pushing the button? I mean, the multiverse is broken because of you, you have no clue of what’s going to happen, what if billions of people get transported to your reality and people die by being crushed by each other? Anyway, the movie then goes fine and fun, but then parker tried to fix the villians, which would be fine if I wanted to watch a bubble guppies movie. This plotline takes away anything interesting from the villians and destroys what made them fun. Anyway, I’m not a huge fan of the MCU, do I did not take it seriously. Also, I watched the other 2 holland movies in spanish, but this one in english. Does hollands accent always show? I noticed it in a bit almost by the end, makes me feel the movie was rushed like, couldn’t they try another take with a more american accent? Why does the kid from queens sound like the cast of derry girls? Expand

While it was certainly a fun movie to watch I felt this really only achieved an 'average' level of enjoyment. It seems like everything was done too sweetly without any bitterness or challenge for the titular character to overcome. I guess with all the rave reviews I expected a film with more sophistication to it.

This is the ultimate spidey movie, with plenty of fun to go around, which of course is most common in the MCU, but also the dramatic weight of responsibilities that was sorely missing from the previous entries. When the dramatic scenes hit, the impact is great. The fact a movie like this exist with the return of the Sam Raimi villains is something that I have yet to process. Even when watching it I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and feeling. It felt like a childhood fever dream.

Out of the three Holland Spidey films, this is by far the best one.

Tom Holland has been great in the past movies, but here I thought he finally made it his own. Holland delivers a great performance, especially in the emotional scenes. ‘Iron Boy jr.’ is no more, and that alone makes me so happy. If you're still in doubt about Tom Holland as Spider-Man, then I think this will finally turn you around, because Holland is so incredible in this movie. He fully embodies the struggle, but heroic Peter Parker who faces the most difficult choices. The final shot of him in his new home-made suit looked spectacular.

The supporting characters like MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) are always a great edition in Peter’s journey. The chemistry between Peter and MJ is strong here. Honestly, out of all the Spider-Man movies, I feel that they relationship is the best.

Jon Watts direction in this movie, in terms of action, camera work, and just film making in general is a massive improvement this time around. The action scenes were memorable and creative, sometimes brutal. There’s one scene where Peter Parker, who is in the room filled with villains in an apartment, his Spidey senses are triggered, but doesn’t know where the danger is coming from. The way it was shot: the camera locked onto Holland, giving his steady movements around the space more motion, everything blurred out, trying hard to pinpoint where it’s coming from. A tense scene that was well done.

Michael Giacchino score for the movie perfectly mixes the grand superhero theme, but also the emotional weight of the scenes as well.

Now it’s not a secret at this point of the returning villains, both from the Sam Raimi version: Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Sandman, and the Mark Webb version: Electro and Lizard. None of these are just cameos or soulless nostalgia bait, but they actually serve the story and have an actual impact on Holland’s Spider-Man.

Alfred Molina's performance as Doc Ock was great and him returning to this role 17 years later didn’t feel dated; he fits back into it. His character arc wasn’t miss handled from ‘Spider-Man 2’, but instead is further expanded on respectfully. Also, the De-aging on him looked great. Jamie Foxx finally gets some justice after his version of Electro was ruined in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Willem Dafoe returning as Green Goblin in this movie was nothing short but brilliant. Really menacing, scary, and more ruthless than he was in the 2002 film. He might be the best MCU villain, as he doesn’t want to take over the world, or to be understood or agreed with, he just wants to cause pain and chaos. It helped that he was maskless throughout the movie where we get to see his evil gleefulness come through. "Strong Enough to Have It All...TOO WEAK TO TAKE IT!" - brilliant.

Benedict Cumberbatch makes a mystical appearance as Doctor Strange, who helps Peter out by crafting a spell to make the world forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man after having his identity revealed in the last movie. There’s a great and visually pleasing chase scene that takes magic and science in a creative and fun spin.

Now since the movie has been out for a while now, I feel confident in talking about some major reveals.

The return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield is a sight to behold. I still can’t get my head around them returning. They were more than a throw away cameo but played a massive impact to Holland’s Spidey. Andrew Garfield finally gets his time to shine, as he was truly excellent in this. I never understood why people considered him the “worst Spider-Man”. He was the victim of bad writing. His emotional reaction to saving the MCU’s MJ, something he couldn’t do for his Gwen, was such a gut punch. Yep, he really is amazing.

The interaction between all three Spider-Men wasn’t wasted at all and was a blast to watch. Hearing Danny Elfman’s Spider-Man (2002) - theme playing briefly in the background whilst in the cinema was just…goosebumps. The short scene between Maguire and Molina was a touching reunion.

Also, the appearance of Charlie Cox returning as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil was such a shock but a welcoming one. The movie is far from perfect, but right now I'm just happy with what I saw. I walked out of the cinema satisfied.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is a flawed but good fan service-based movie.

SPOILERS

At this point you've probably heard this already, so here it goes: many old faces return from older Spider-Man movies, including Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective versions of Peter Parker from alternate dimensions. They even hinted at Miles Morales eventually showing up in the future. My only complaint is they didn't include the japanese Spider-Man, from the 1970s japanese TV show :)

Also returning are Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock from the Netflix Daredevil series, Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, and J. K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson in small roles. Other returning characters are many of the villains from the old Spider-Man movies (Doctor Octavius, Norman Osborne aka Green Goblin, Sandman, Lizard and Electro). But no MCU Spider-Man villain (Vulture, Scorpio, Shocker, Mysterio) makes a return.

For all the fan service that went into this movie the plot is a complete mess though. Starting with Tom Holland's Peter Parker wanting to make everyone but a few friends forget he is Spider-Man with help from Dr. Strange, Parker messes up the spell and ends up almost destroying the Multiverse. In the end Parker decides to let go and have everyone forget about him in order to save reality. The theme of the movie is cool in theory (the burden of what it takes to be a hero, super or not), but the execution is bad.

The action is poor, too. Only the initial battle of Spider-Man and Doctor Octavius is good, afterwards it's sub-par.

But the best part of this movie is surely the return of Maguire and Garfield for an extended, last hoorah. Watching the 3 Spider-Men in action is cool, just as it was in the animated "Into the Spiderverse" movie. But there were no cool scenes and action written to really take advantage of them. At least the movie has lots of heart overall.

This movie ends up making Spider-Man independent from his previous mentors (Tony Stark, Happy Hogan, Nick Fury and Doctor Strange), which is something that has negatively influenced Peter Parker across all the MCU Spider-Man films. Let's hope the next Spider-Man trilogy will be more of a real, independent, confident, and resourceful Spider-Man.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The fan service was amazing but if looking at it from a non emotional perspective or someone who didn't have background on the previous cameo actors then the movie itself doesn't hold up very high on its own. I didn't appreciate the way the bad guys went good straight away then went bad straight away. The death was unnecessary and the scenes were not anything too impressive. That being said with the fan service that went as far as it did, which I didn't expect it was atleast a 7/10. Expand

The twenty-seventh episode of the MCU is all about fan service, nostalgia and fun without compromise or complications. And, is there anything wrong with that?

There are art films, cult films, and films like this one that offers you an escapist fantasy. I have never confused them and as in everything, there are levels of quality, and of course different criteria and opinions.
I only know that what I was looking for from this film was exactly what I found.

I had a lot of fun, and as a comic book reader since childhood, what I saw unfold on screen filled me with joy.

True, there are plot holes. Many of its elements are gratuitously justified so as not to overcomplicate things, and many times the pacing gets bogged down, but overall, things flow in a good way, as is usually the case with all Marvel movies.

The best thing? The closure it provides for what came before for the character, and most importantly, how it re-imagines Peter Parker, with Tom Holland finally becoming Spider-Man, and not Tony Stark's protégé and heir.

He has reclaimed his mantle, under his own hands. We'll have to see where they take him from here.

Starts off strong but then kinda stumbles in the second half with an overabundance of nostalgia bait and memberberries.

The premise is great: Peter and his friends suffer from the consequences of Spidermans identity being revealed. So in an effort to reverse this Peter asks Dr. Strange for help and through a series of mishap causes villains from different Spiderman universes to appear.
I won't spoil the rest of the movie but there certainly was an interesting twist roughly halfway through the movie.
However in the end the movie leans so heavily into moments of cheesyness and "remember this?" situations that it brought down the whole experience to a very underwhelming and frankly quite stupid finale (let's just say some characters come off like complete morons).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. not a bad marvel movie by any means, but fans love it for the fan service, and I can tell that is exactly what marvel was going for, the cheeky lads and ladies. Nothing inspiring, and not as influential or original as the last 2 Spidey films. Jokes are fine. Feels like slightly contrived fan-fiction sometimes. I have to admit one of my favorite parts of the film was watching the spidemen banter and learning about Andrew Garfield's Spidey (and now he is my favorite spidey because that boy is sad). These aspects should not be the highest highlights of the film for me. They were not even pivotal to the movie.

May's...scene, it's very meh. It was kinda late in the movie and she egged Peter on to help all the baddies in the beginning so her demise is kinda her own fault. I know she had to go to up the stakes and to teach peter about responsibility and loss, but it's so deep into the story, I'd rather he lose Ned because Ned is rumoured to be a powerful badass villain (?) anyways. The whole multi-verse thing Marvel is banking on with Spidey and Dr. Strange, it's been done years ago with Rick and Morty, and I'm afraid this will set off a bunch of franchises all over to beat the dead horse. Overall, had a good time, not the best CGI, and felt too fan-fiction-y.

A shame too, because the rest of the film goes out of it's way to be respectful and pay attention to detail to all the various returning characters and their stories. Some of the emotional beats feel a bit forced but in general it's a high wire act pulled off more than satisfyingly (for the men at least). Expand

Marvel movies follow a comfortable pattern that keeps things interesting rather than boring. Combining comedy with blockbuster action scenes but usually they are well paced,a characteristic this new phase seems to lack. "No way home " like black widow or shang chi races through it's narrative despite it's 2hrs. Dr. Strange feels like a throwaway and Peter Parker's plight doesn't feel necessary. The comedy feels stiff and immature (see:jaime foxx's entire performance).
Im really disappointed by this movie firstly by how incoherent it is. Why would Peter forget the fact Norman has a darker half, introduce him to his identity, his aunt and friends? Or the fact electro keeps discussing his lust for power? His mistakes are very stupid and aunt mays death feels obligatory to push pale parallels to Sam Rami original trilogy .

On the positive side it fulfills alot of it's multiversal promises, the references are timely. Peter&his friends are a pleasure to watch. Zendaya is hilarious as Mj and Jacob is inconsequential as Ned. It's a foundation for a more cosmic marvel that takes greater risks. It captures the marvel zietgist despite being one of the weaker marvel projects.

No Way Home has a way of sticking with you and I kept thinking about the movie more and more, and I started to appreciate it more as a result. The movie has a lot of problems, the last 2/3 of the movie started to feel less and less coherent, and the ending of the movie didn't really make much sense. However, everyone does a great job with their performances and you can tell that some of the cast was having a lot of fun. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 1-First of all, watching the old actors come back in their roles and watching their quality performances reminded me of old quality Spider-Man movies.

2-The arrival of the other Spider-Man is very ordinary and the way they show their power is funny, but it seems to me that they are disrespected. The arrival of Tobey's Spider-Man was so ordinary. If 3 Spider-Man is in a beer, how the dialogues have reflected the fantasy of returning very well. But still, I wish we could see the 3 of them wandering among the buildings in the city together, with their own theme music. :(

3-This time, unnecessary jokes were less and there were quality jokes.

4-Beating Doctor Strange, they made that part very simple, I didn't like it.

5-The scene where Andrew saves our Spider-Man's girlfriend was very beautiful.

6-The villains in the movie are not actually bad, it is not true for all super-villains to say that they have diseases that make them bad. Unfortunately, that philosophy is not bad, but well-executed. Especially the scene where Doc Oct came to help was legendary.

7-Sand Man's character was unstable throughout the movie, he was hypersensitive, while he was kind, he suddenly became bad, he was very conceited, brother. I would like to see him being an ally and helping our people. They spent the Sandman.

8-The thing I wanted to see the most was Venom, but they used the character like an extra you know. He came and left a piece of symbiote, what is this?

9-In the movie, our Spider-Man and his lover's relationship was poorly handled, but their separation could have been more impressive if a little effort had been made.

10-The thing I complained about the most in the last Spider-Man series was that Spider-Man was always someone's servant. Like a child, he was always there for their technology support. Like Tobey, he didn't do his own cosplay, and instead of his own money, he was always a hero with someone's support. At the end of the movie, this cycle is finally broken and our Spidey went out to his house and sewed his own costume. Now, it has been returned to the concept of one of us that makes Spider-Man Spider-Man, I left the movie happy in that way, I hope they don't spoil it in future movies.

11-Finally, it's enough to show real realistic blood in those superhero movies, or we're tired of them, like a children's channel, they are trying not to show blood all the time. You don't even realize that the side character is seriously injured. Get out of this head and let those directors, writers and editors go.

The movie has enough soul in it to make you cry, laugh, smile, gasp and make your jaw drop. However once you put more thought into the film it becomes evident this movie is a narrative mess. There is evident plot holes and some characters are a real miss like Sandman and The Lizard to the point you question why they're involved with this movie in the first place having little to no substance. Where this movie really finds its success though is in how it portrays emotions in characters and their character development. Tom Holland's Spiderman finally gained the substance that was missing from his character since his appearance in the MCU. However it's hard to not feel it was 2 movies too late. In conclusion this movie is an epic adventure that makes Spiderman, well Spiderman. It has memorable moments but as a whole is dragged down by what feels like a rushed story with many plot holes and characters more forgettable than a Men In Black Neuralyzer. Expand

Similarly to Infinity War, they leave an ending that feels like it has massive implications, but deep down you know they will fix everything with no consequences. Seeing the three different Spider-Men interact was great fun, and the banter between the three of them is enough to make anyone smile at the very least. Willem Dafoe is still a chilling villain, and Jamie Foxx plays a much better Electro character than he did in Amazing Spider-Man 2. Overall a very fun movie, but nothing more. Expand

To be honest this movie did alright i would consider that this is not my most favourite mcu movie out there but i don't hate it at all, unlike other people i don't like the two previous movies especially "Home coming" but i was wrong all along cause this trilogy is the origin story of Tom Holland's spiderman. The rating score for this movie is high because of course cause this movie is just another overhyped mcu movie just like what Endgame did in 2019. I must say i don't dislike it at all because they did good with the fan service here and i think im gonna rewatch it when it's streaming on Disney+, but for some reason some part of the story is predictable in the trailer, the moment where peter is trying to catch the goblin grenade and aunt may is there in that same area i knew it that of course she's gonna die and yes i predicted it which is funny consider that it's the major spoiler of this movie. But in the end this is my favourite spiderman movie of them all on this trilogy and yeah can't wait to see spiderman back again in the theatre's later, a job well done. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is fine. Having three spidermen in a movie is really cool and the emotional moments of the movie really hit. That being said the story is just awful. It is one of the most thoughtless stories the MCU has done. The entire way the issue occurred with Dr. Strange was so dumb and careless. Why would he do such a risky spell without consulting Peter first? Also the other spidermen don't show up until the end when the other villains have been running through NYC for the entire movie. Also the idea of fixing the villains was lazy. It took the spidermen like half an hour in the lab to find the cures when it originally seemed impossible. Why did the other MJs not come back? Plus peter and strange fighting was so impulsive and not fleshed out. Also, the final fight scene was in pitch black. I am just tired of these ending battles in the dark where it is hard to see everything. The high points of this movie are the best in MCU, but low points are also some of the lowest in MCU. Expand

As people can't judge characters with their own values and ways of dealing with things when watching movies, I don't think it's a story about "Spider-Man's stupid kindness". But it's really sadder than the previous two, and there are more things to discuss. This HOME series is over, and the third generation of Spider-Man is really growing up. Compared with the previous two generations, the characters are actually better established, but the little college boy is not very pleasing to the self-proclaimed mature and rational audience... The whole movie feels quite complete, and Holland's acting skills are really amazing, but there are too many things, too messy, and the visual effect is also old-fashioned. In short, it still drew a perfect end, with three generations in the same frame and the appearance of old characters, which is smooth and comfortable. As for the multiverse, you don't have to watch this one. Looking forward to Doctor Strange 2. Expand

A great nostalgia trip, but a bad movie.
Andrew Garfield and Willem Dafoe carry yet another generic Marvel movie, while the other returning actor are clearly there just for the money.

It's likely not too much of a stretch to say that Spider-Man could be the most widely marketed superhero of all time, with only maybe Batman giving him a run for his money in that department. I've seen the character in so many different formsIt's likely not too much of a stretch to say that Spider-Man could be the most widely marketed superhero of all time, with only maybe Batman giving him a run for his money in that department. I've seen the character in so many different forms and incarnations over the years that after Far From Home I honestly thought I was getting Spider-Man'd out. Upon finishing this however, I'm now wondering if instead I'm just not that much of a fan of the MCU's take. Seeing all the bits and pieces pulled from the previous silver screen adaptations of Peter Parker made me realize exactly how much I'd be down for a fourth Raimi movie or even a third Amazing. Another Tom Holland standalone though? Despite loving Homecoming and there being nothing inherently wrong with this or its other direct sequel, I'd pass in favor of seeing his story continue in one the universe's shared outings for a few reasons.

The first might simply be Jon Watts. It's no secret that when you sit down to watch a Marvel flick you're in for lengthy ride. Their very best releases however are able to somewhat prevent you from realizing this in the moment by how well they keep you engaged with the studio's established mix of humor, heart, and action. Watts is using the exact same formula, but has been unable since his first entry to apply it a manner that's kept me from feeling every excruciatingly long second of the 2 hour+ running-times in either of his two Home (Far From and now No Way) follow-ups. Then there's the supporting cast. I don't care about the likes of Ned Leeds or "Happy" Hogan the way I have the Harry Osborns and Gwen Stacys of the past, while the original interpretations of returning staples such as Aunt May and MJ are nowhere near as endearing. An unfortunate fact given what a large role they all play in these films and probably the best example of how not every aspect of the MCU's unique vision for Spider-Man has been for the better.

None of that is to say this isn't worth watching. It's just what kept the biggest MCU event since Endgame from hitting home with me personally. When it's delivering on all of its wildest rumors however, even I was elated. Not every of promise gets fulfilled as it turns out stuff like the mid-credits scene in Let There Be Carnage was a complete waste of everyone's time, but there's enough here to make for a longtime Spidey fan's ultimate wet dream. I particularly loved how it gave me the slightest bit of insight into what the lives of certain characters were like after where they ended up the last time I got to see them onscreen. The whole thing also serves as a soft reboot of the titular hero that takes him back to his roots so the future is as always open to a wide range of interesting possibilities. Whether one of those potential directions it can go in will cause me to finally embrace Holland the way I did Tobey and, yes, even Garfield is another matter, but at least my curiosity as to what may come next has cautiously been piqued following a period when it had waned almost entirely.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge Andrew Garfield Spidey fan (he's easily my favorite, with his 2 movies being much superior in my opinion to any that have followed), I was looking forward to this movie. Specifically because I had no interest in the Tom Holland Spidey movies after watching the first one and it being quite boring and uninteresting. However, this movie is just middling. Theres nothing really great about it. Seeing Andrew and Toby are the only good parts. Andrew getting a redemption arc by saving MJ is probably the best thing about it. However, as a movie, it falls into the same issue most MCU type movies do, its rather predictable and boring. Expand

Well I think we all know why I’m back now to see this particularI made a decision not to see any more Spider-Man movies after Spider-Man: Homecoming. The adaptations were clearly not aimed at me, they felt very kiddy and I was done. Well I think we all know why I’m back now to see this particular adaptation, I finally caved and went to see the new Spider-Man. No spoilers but if you’ve made it this far without knowing any major plot points then you must be living off the grid because by now the spoilers are everywhere you look.

Picking up immediately after Spider-Man: Far From Home with Spider-Man’s identity now revealed to the entire world, Peter (Tom Holland) looks to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help undoing this situation. Well the spell doesn’t exactly go according to plan and soon dangerous enemies from other worlds start showing up and causing havoc. Peter must then embark upon a journey to discover what it really means to be Spider-Man, “with great power comes great responsibility” and all that. It’s not a Spider-Man movie if you don’t have the responsibility quote.

Look my main issue with the Holland Spider-Man movies was that they never actually felt like Spider-Man movies but more like an Iron Man movie featuring Spider-Man or in this case a Doctor Strange movie featuring Spider-Man. At this rate Spider-Man is getting overshadowed in his own movies. I missed the more focused Spider-Man films in the Tobey Maguire era (not you Spider-Man 3). I liked the simple costume, one main villain and enough room to develop the characters. With each new adaptation of Spider-Man they became more overblown with mediocre villains. Well there’s plenty of villains to go around this time with one in particular stealing the show. Also it’s worth mentioning that J.K. Simmons played a character so well in the Sam Raimi movies that not only did they not even try to recast him for The Amazing Spider-Man movies but for No Way Home they just got him back as the iconic J. Jonah Jameson. He is one of the few on-screen characters that looks like he was 100% lifted straight from the comic book pages and onto the big screen.

It’s very cheesy and it had some great moments that I thoroughly enjoyed but let’s not pretend that Spider-Man: No Way Home didn’t just look at the success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and copy that format. One scene set in the woods particularly stands out and almost looks like a complete remake. There is a strong sense of paying fan service here and attempting to keep everyone happy. But as we all know, you can’t keep every group of fans happy but No Way Home was probably the best attempt so far. As I’ve said before, nostalgia sells and the opportunity here to get every single Spider-Man fan into the cinema to see No Way Home was too great to miss. At least it tried to fix some of the issues that the other films messed up on, I enjoyed it but nothing will ever come close to the first two Sam Raimi Spider-Man films. Recommended for all the Marvel and/or Spider-Man fans.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, nothing happens in this movie. It's great, we can see the previous spider men, but the movie itself does not tell anything. The death of Aunt May is laughable. The "villains" from the other movies are not at all what they once were. The movie is rushed but in the meantime, nothing happens...
It's a bad movie, with only one plot: nostalgia is great, 'member how great Andrew and Toby were? Plus the ending is exactly the same as spider man 2? Is that plagiarism?

Not saying I did t enjoy it, I did, but it's really a member-berry stew with the multi-verse as a newly introduced (in the MCU, not shows) plot device to bring all the Spider-mans together. The movie shines most for me in the scenes where the three Spider-mans get together and discuss the oddities and banalities of their particular universes. And honestly, it makes me miss Toby Macguire's rendition the most (I don't dislike Andre Gardield, but was unimpressed by the Amazing Spider-man, and I like Tom Holland, but hes a bit too aw-shucks for me). The villains were...there. again, nothing wrong with the acting, but it's all just nostalgia. Finally, I can't stand Dr. Strange any more.

The story was interesting enough but didn’t have the epic moments that made you think ‘wow’. Tom Holland, doesn’t do a convincing American accent and for some reason makes his role a little less authentic and likeable. The film really was more a biopic of Spider-Man and all the other actors etc are there to support his storyline. In many Marvel films, there’s bigger stories weaving it’s way throughout to add depth, But here, none. Just Spidies internal struggle. Dr Strange’s role in the film was whimsical.

The bad guys were mainly just their to fill the narrative and not create any real surprise. (Except one major surprise).

Preface: I am a massive Tom holland spiderman fan. Say what you will but Homecoming and Far from home are in my top 10 of the MCU. With that said:
This film attempts too much and so too much is rushed. The pacing seems strange to me, scenes where we might expect more exploration and didnt get it. The amount of plot armor in this movie is ridiculous. It tries so hard to be a heart string puller but none of that really illicits a response from the audience. Its like they saw how people reacted to the end of End Game and thought "hells yeah lets PUMP this movie FULL of it". The jokes and gags were funny as always. But instead of it being a light hearted entertaining film, they tried to make it a serious sad film with some light hearted aspects. It almost contradicts the whole character building that took place in the previous 2 movies. I enjoyed it but i didnt love it.
Tom Holland is still a total GC though. Play golf with me!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, this movie feels much more Disney than Marvel. The story, jokes, timing, moments, low-quality CGI, and overall tone are fitting for a children's movie; which is disappointing for a life-long Spider-Man fan. I mean, Aunt May makes a joke about Otto Octavius drinking salt water... because he's an octopus... they're both adults...

While it was interesting to see the mix of old and new, I feel as though the new Spider-Man/universe were the weakest elements of the movie. Dr. Strange is relegated to a joke, non-powered characters don't act like they're in any danger, and the Mirror Dimension is just an excuse to create visual spectacle without any real substance. Additionally, the moment they introduce the other two Spider-Man characters is terribly paced at home and it is clear that they paced it to hold fold audience applause.

A few minutes prior, at about the half-way mark, the movie goes through a sharp tonal shift. Willem Dafoe steps into the spotlight and initiates the turn, which was done very well. That said, Aunt May's death doesn't feel earned or built up to, it just kind of happens. Although Tom Holland's acting was fantastic in the scene (and after), it felt very wrong and out of place inside of the film that surrounds it.

Adding Tobey and Andrew's Spider-Men drastically helped the film, but without the efforts of previous films, their emotional performances and presence wouldn't have been as impactful. That said, the first scene with all three actors was ABSOLUTELY CAPTIVATING! More than anything, it made me wish that the rest of the film had done them justice. They could have created such a strong movie, but instead they made popcorn with a bit of added flavor. Although the second half of the film is much stronger/better than the first half, the film as a whole felt... disappointing.

The three Spider-Men and Willem Dafoe were amazing. Everything else, not quite as much.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the bombshell after credits scene of the last Spiderman movie showing Peter parker's identity revealed I was eagerly waiting a new movie. And now that the movie came out I can sadly say that it did not deliver.

Some aspects of the movie like the acting are very good. Dafoe is easily the best actor here able to portray Norman Osborne in a way very similar to a dementia patient lost in the world. Tobey is able to accurately portray an older wiser Spiderman, and Garfield is able to pull off the pain of losing Gwen well still nearly a decade later. Other aspects like the narrative are not as good. The story is jumbled and kind of stupid. we need to fix all the villains? This is a mind numbingly dumb idea. Furthermore the overarching reveal that the entire MCU Spiderman trilogy is an origin story was a bad choice. There was no reason to essentially yeet MJ and Ned. The movie now seems in retrospect to be a bizzaro soft reboot of the MCU Spiderman series more inline with being an MCU Tobey than its own thing. We also did not need another "with great power comes great responsibility" scene. This was a misstep. Part of why the first MCU Spiderman movie was good was due to that overplayed cliché scene not being in that movie. I don't care for the saying, I have known about this for over 2 decades, lets move on. Something that again the first MCU Spiderman did well, I just assumed Peter in that movie already heard the speech because the audience already has. The fan service while being fun was also overplayed. Felt like an episode of full house with my theater clapping every 3 seconds because of some random reference. Overall I did like it, but it is the worst of the 3 MCU Spiderman movies. If you turn your brain off and get happy at 1000 references then you'll like the movie. I would give it a 3/5 (6.5/10)

Side note:
Aunt May's death was one of the funniest things about the movie. She gets suplexed by the glider, blown up, and then walks around for a few minutes and then dies after the cliché "great power" spiel. I was laughing the entire time. Less is more guys, she could have just been stabbed or something we didn't need an entire production for her death

It really needed more of toby and andrew in it and also more of the villains which were completely discarded in this movie, to a point that they are pretty much forgettable which is sad! You have the green goblin, dr octo octavius, electron etc.. and you barely get a background check on them nor rewind, and here is tom to save the day, defeat bad guys, and take place for tobey and andrew. Overall, i would say, just wait till you can rent it on youtube for cheap. I really wanted to see more tobey save the day, with andrew and tom, and have a longer, more enjoyable time knowing the characters. But i didnt get that, and the action was so little, and the movie is so short so dont worry about holding your weewee the entire movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This film isn't bad but it isn't that great either. The story is quite bad; no multiverse film has managed to create a good, interesting story so I am not surprised that this film failed too. The first hour is incredibly dull and uninspiring; it does nothing unique or interesting. The returning villains are somehow swept aside as if they are just playthings. They take no longer than 5-10 minutes to defeat which is crazy considering there was once a whole film dedicated completely to them. Tom Holland's Spiderman isn't this powerful, its just a bit ridiculous. The film gets better in the the second half when the other spidermen come into the film. They really transform the film and create the best moments. Andrew Garfield's and Tobey Maguire's spidermen have amazing chemistry and really improved the film. Tom Holland's spiderman is, simply put, dull compared to the other actors' adaptations. Aunt May's death means nothing; we barely know her so why would we care so it wasn't sad at all. The only part of the film that was sad was when Andrew Garfield's spiderman saved MJ as he was finally strong enough to save someone spiderman loved. Despite these criticisms the film isn't bad; the other spidermen turn the film from mediocre (rating of 5) to quite good (rating of 6). There were some really good moments but the film suffered from a bad story and a poor portrayal of spiderman from Tom Holland. I'm not saying he is a bad spiderman because he's not but his story just doesn't appeal to me, its nothing that hasn't already been seen and is just boring.
Overall, the films ok with some good moments sprinkled towards the end of the film.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When you take out all the fan service, what you find beneath is a poor acted movie composed of many separate ideas that struggle to get together. Albeit this, the movie has it's positives like bringing to the MCU's Spider Man the conflicts which the comics' Spider Man faced. This deeper emotional aspect helps to fill the void left by the movie's lack of quality acting. Exception is Willem Dafoe's acting, which clearly stands out as a better one. Tobey Maguire just seems completely out of it while Andrew Garfield tries to bring the Amazing Spider Man back. With exception of the Green Goblin and Doc Oc, the other villains just look like fillers, also Doctor Strange feels completely out of character again as he is the main culprit ot the movie's plot. I didn't know what to expect, but I certainly expected better than what I saw. In addition to being a snooze festival, it was so corny and saccharine that I made an appointment to visit the dentist during the film.

The film began to deteriorate the moment Peter Parker (Tom Holland) went to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for a spell to make everyone forget about him. It wasn't a bad idea for Peter to go to Doctor Strange to fix his little revealed identity problem, it was just weirdly dumb of Doctor Strange to actually accommodate Peter. Dr. Strange really tried to make everyone in the world forget who Peter Parker was. It was a massive spell that felt too excessive just to fix a man's problems. The movie went into silly mode as Parker kept interrupting Doctor Strange as he did the spell. The result was a multitude of old enemies from different universes converging on this universe to find Parker. If it was explained, it was poorly explained.

At this point, the film was on shaky ground, but it didn't budge. "No Way Home" would suffer another setback when Parker fought Strange to stop him from sending all these villains back to their respective universes. See, if they came back, they would meet death at the hands of, or because of, this universe's Spider-Man, and this universe's Spider-Man was too moralistic to allow that to happen. No, Parker would fix this so everyone could go home and live happily ever after.

Everything after that part of the movie was immaterial to me in the grand scheme. To me, when a plot is based on a flawed or just plain bad premise, everything that follows is equally wrong and pointless. Not that the things that follow can't be aesthetically cool; they are just empty.

Parker was acting on the fair advice of his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). By his wisdom, Parker had an obligation to help these poor misguided men, no matter what the exponentially more experienced Doctor Strange said. Doctor Strange wanted to do the most logical thing which was to send each villain back to their own universe and let fate take over from there. Parker, with his oversized heart and undersized common sense, wanted to keep them in his own universe as pet projects until he could fix them and then send them back. Forget that he would actively tamper with the course of events from another universe, massively altering their timelines with incalculable consequences, he simply wasn't old enough, wisdom, or experience enough to know what the best thing to do was. Also, it was a slap in the face to the other Spider-Men. As if to say, "You guys are screwed, I'm going to find a better, healthier solution because I'm a better Spider-Man."

I was so disturbed by this new Spider-Man mission to save these villains that everything after that started to bother me. The attempts at comedy were awkward and grossly bland. The emotional moments were very frequent and long. The last nail in the coffin of this was execution time. Man, they dragged this. I could tolerate a didactic and flawed plot if you explained it to us in a quick and exciting way, but in their attempts to send this great spider-man, we had to suffer through an ocean of tears, an abyss of emotions and an abundance of silence with slow music. Everything was set up for them to restart Spider-Man if necessary, but at this point I could use a break and no more Spider-Men about "home".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the movie is a mix of amazing scenes and terrible scenes. I loved tom's spider sense scene that was probably the peak of john watt's career. however, as Andrew and Tobey entered the quality dropped. its like they say "oh we have Andrew and Tobey now, we know we are going to sell why bother to actually write good stuff?" Andrew and Tobey's spidermen made 0 progress in terms of character arc in this time gap they had, they didn't even change suits. so spiderman had the same outfit as 2007? Tobey's peter didn't sound like toby's peter at all. just some random guy that Tobey plays. the plot wasn't really headed towards anything it was just driven by nostalgia sadly. and the CGI was so rushed they actually fixed it WHILE THE MOVIE WAS IN THEATRES! this is not professional work. im happy I got my childhood back but I wished the idea was executed better. It is fun, but vapid. Dr. Strange's power levels has no continuity in this, as he now can causally alter the entire MULTIVERSE, which makes him far more powerful that the entire Infinity Gauntlet (with all the stones). This means he should be very easily to do anything, yet the plot does not allow that. Also, you need to ignore that Spider-man (at least one of them) gets innocent people killed yet just shrugs it off. Nice to see that heroes do not blame themselves for reckless behavior. The excuse of many defenders of this movie is that they had "good intentions" and this just shines a light on modern society and it's failure to understand that is not acceptable, especially for a hero. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Middle 7/10
The end of the movie? 0/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There was a lot of hype behind this movie. What was the expression used in the film, "expect to be disappointed and you won't'? That would sum up my feelings about this cinematic experience. There was too much of that old cliche dialog "no, no, no, no" and the same cliche dialog structure in many of Marvel or should I say Disney movies today. The plot was corny, save everybody, win the day and the consequence wasn't enough to justify it all. Without going into spoilers, Doctor Strange's character was way too dumb and was just used to get the plot going.

Not to be cynical but it seems the whole reason this film was rated as high as it was is because of the three Peter Parkers all in the same movie. Maybe I'm a bit biased as I didn't like all but 2 of the spiderman movies thus far.
