No or little political messages, eye melting visuals and a good story. This movie delves deep into themes of destiny and fate, how flaws and bad things improve people, and many more. The new characters added fit the spider verse feel and aren't over bearing. The only complaint I have is that some of the characters in the first movie were sidelined. The characters are great and I enjoy, but the old characters, specifically Penny, Noir-Spider, and Porker don't have any significant screen time. However Miles and Gwens story and character arcs are further fleshed out with some really hard hitting moments. The jokes are well-placed and not too much. I never felt like I was drowning in unfunny jokes, and most of them hit. The action was top notch the same impactful level as the last. I went with my family and everyone agreed that it was really good. This movie is a must see, better than anything Disey has put out in ten years. Expand

Originally I was expecting this to be a really good movie after into the spider-verse but man it was even better than I could've ever imagined, it has everything you could want in a Spider-Man movie, heart, humour, great visuals, faithful to the comics, creative, exciting, drama. This was much much better than it's predecessor and that's saying something as that was amazing. I seriously recommend watching this movie if you haven't already and I would be lying if I hadn't had superhero fatigue from the mediocre movies we've been getting recently but man this was truly epic, and not only is this one of the best superhero movies ever but one of the best movies ever made (in my opinion). Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse is a love letter to everything Spider-Man meant to the world during his 61 years of existence.

It’s an exciting, surprising adventure full of heart, emotions, action but also (and mostly) of human feelings and deeply developed characters that feel real and true to their comicbooks counterparts. The team at Sony Pictures continues to expand the boundaries of animation techniques and delivers something truly extraordinary: everything is incredibile to look at, the attention to detail is simply insane, and each style fits the characters perfectly. The story of Miles Morales keeps getting more interesting, with him going further down a path to really make him a great, unforgettable Spider-Man. The movie is so fun, but also really really deep. The music is simply perfect. Countless easter eggs will make every fan happy and satisfied, because it’s amazing to see how much the writers love and wanted to represent everything about Spidey and his lore. It’s definitely a must-have, probably one of the best comicbook movies ever, and one of the greatest animated movies of all time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The greatest Spider-Man movie. Possibly the greatest comic book movie. One of the best animated movies. One of my favorite movies. I was nervous going in to the movie because the first one was so good and I didn't want them to mess this one up. Well, I can confidently say, that they DID NOT mess it up. From the animation and sound design to the writing and storytelling, this movie excels at it all. Somehow, this movie made me emotional just from the colors. I didn't think they would be able to make another theme as good as Prowler's from the first movie, but somehow they did, and maybe they did it even better. Miguel O'Hara's theme was on the same level as Prowler's. Menacing and goosebump-causing. It even pays homage to his themes from previous media and even just other Spider-Man themes. Without any exaggeration, THE BEST animation in any movie as of now. Huge shout out to the 1000 artists who worked on this movie. This movie made me feel like a kid again. The giddiness I felt when I saw some of the scenes in this movie was so extreme. I got goosebumps and cried multiple times during this movie. The movie really captures what it means to be Spider-Man. The focus on the relationships between the characters in the first hour of this movie is genius. I love the way they flesh out Miles' character and make the relationship between him and his parents much more dynamic, believable, and emotional. The extra screen time and development we get of Gwen Stacy's (Spider-Gwen's) character is executed to perfection and was much needed. Miguel O'Hara is a compelling and very complex antagonist. Also, they took a random character like The Spot and turned him into one of the most compelling, amazing, and terrifying villains I have seen. The conflicts between Miles and Miguel and Miles and Spot were weaved together in a way that didn't make the movie feel cluttered in the slightest. Just like the first movie, this movie is an instant classic and will influence people for decades. The effect of the first movie has already been felt in the past 4-5 years, god knows what this one will do. This movie is a work of art and deserves to be praised forever for its innovation and self expression. This movie will make people who don't respect the animation medium rethink their ideals. This movie is near perfect and the only "bad" part about it was the fact that it ended. I could have watched 10 hours of that absolute masterpiece. I am unbelievably hyped for the next movie and I can hardly wait. This is one of my favorite movies ever and it will likely stay that way for a very long time.

This is officially a CUM3rd certified "10/10 Must See" movie. TLDR: A masterpiece. A literal work of art. One of my favorite movies.

This is more then some animated movie made by Disney, this is a piece of art. Everything from the spectacular and amazing visuals to the the crazy story that they delivered was just perfect. I've never loved an animated movie this much in my life.

Miles's story was upgraded to the next level so is Gwen's. Miguel O'Hara poses as an amazing anti hero like villain. Along with the spot which was unsettling but they could've did a better job in making him even more unsettling. All the small cameos and details were perfect. From all the spider people to the spider villains and all the other universes, this truly was an eyegasm and overall for Spidey nerds this is an animated movie you'll never forget, it truly is a masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I feel like this is very hard to say which one is better because I feel like I don't have any major complaints about either one just some things are done just/about as well as the first: The character of Miles Morales, the sound/music, the voice acting, the fan service/references, the villain, etc. The originality/freshness of it is something to mention because Into the Spider-verse brought all these things to the table I still do find it amazing that it was able to feel original and fresh at all because Spider-verse brought so many things to the table but this film and the previous film are perfect at taking tropes from Spider-man stories and turning them on their head/examining them to make these films feel unique and you could make the case that both of these films are parodies of the Spider-man and the superhero genre as a whole but it's hard to call them that because they are just so respectful to both of those things and whenever they need to be serious they are serious and when they need to be goofy they are goofy but I feel like this was one of those aspects of the first film that was next to impossible to top since the first one was just so amazing at it and the fact that it even feels original/fresh at all is an accomplishment. Some are done even better even though they weren't problems with the first. These elements just topped the greatest of the same elements of the first which is a challenging feat. The animation was outstanding at its worst and this is easily one of if not the greatest animations (As in animated visuals) in film, (even though the original’s animation was also outstanding.) the humor, the fight scenes, Spider-Gwen, etc. And some are done slightly worse though that's not because it's bad and more that it's not as good as what some of the first did: I do have mixed feelings on this film's cliffhanger ending while the original's ending was perfect but this cliffhanger is interesting because I do think I will either grow to like or dislike the cliffhanger more once if the next film depends on how they follow through with it and usually with cliffhangers you know what to feel without having to watch the next installment. Though I feel I have to give the film praise for its twist at the end. Also, I feel like I didn't know where to put this category but about half of this movie is exposition and no one is talking about it since it delivers it so well that no one notices how much exposition there was. Also when I started to see some of the advertisements for this film and understand what the story would be my main worry was the fact that I thought it might fall into the trap of forgetting the fact of "It's a bad idea to go outside of your universe." But thankfully they were able to explain that away by people being able to wear devices that keep them from glitching out (and eventually dying if they stay in another dimension for too long) while they are in another dimension. BTW I do feel like Peter B. Parker and his story were what elevated that film because it was just the perfect example of someone who hit rock bottom, what happens when we're past our prime and learning to rise through other people helping us rise. While I feel like the thing that elevated this film was Spider-Gwen who lost her best friend and that makes it so that her father hates Spider-Gwen without knowing that it is her daughter and then isn't able to see the only friend that she made and when her father discovers her identity he still tries to arrest her so she is completely alone and I feel like this is a great example of what happens when someone feels isolated and alone because she immediately goes to this shady organization that is run by Spider-man 2099 and then once she reunited with Miles she doesn't know how to feel because know she doesn't feel alone anyone because she is with him but she also knows that she can't be with him because he is supposed to be kept out of this organization that she is a part of. Then she and this shady organization gets proven right with Miles saving the security officer which makes the entire universe start to get destroyed because of it. Then once the person who is alone finds shady people to be with once they realize how bad these people are with letting innocent people die, hunting down Miles because they are so devoted to their belief that all canon events need to play out and also that by working with Spider-man 2099's army she betrayed her one true friend in Miles Morales. She then realizes that while she may be alone this isn't the right place to be so she then gets sent back to her dimension and then meets back with her father who she was able to connect with again because he felt the loss of his daughter which made him try to make amends with her and regrets what he did she also knows that he quit the police because of his guilt and she also realizes that there is a way to prevent canon events of happening so she tries to save her one true friend while she can. Even a 14 year old to work on a Lego scene in the movie
The only thing I can complain about is that they won’t shut up about Cannon events but other than that it is the perfect movie of 2023

It shows how hard this movie hits when even the INTRO, THE OPENING, THE FIRST 4 MINUTES, give me goosebumps. The story, the animation style, the personality of the characters, the SOUNDTRACK, Daniel Pemberton KILLED IT with this film. 1000+ ANIMATORS collaborated to make this film possible. The only bad thing about this movie is that it has a cliffhanger, but that doesn't really hold it back for me. For everyone who votes negatively/mixed for this film JUST for the cliffhanger/"messy artstyle", then you're either an old man or a ****

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is a representation of what Spider-Man is, spreading across the Spider-Verse, no pun intended. The visuals and writing of this movie is even better than the first Spider-Verse movie, which was a high bar to pass. The scene with Miles swinging through supposedly his universe, the flashbacks to the characters in the first movie, the voice lines being heard from earlier in the movie, it's just all great. It's also my favorite scene in this movie. This movie's comedy is also top notch, my theater was laughing during every joke. I can't count how many easter eggs of Spider-Man lore there is in this film. From the Insomniac Spider-Man, to Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield, this movie is filled with fun things to find that long time fans of the webhead will love. The story of this movie needs brains to understand, and I love it. You have to comprehend every frame of this movie to understand what's going on, and it feels rewarding to figure out what's happening. I know much people find it as a criticism, but I find it as a win to have a story that you have to be smart to understand. The cliffhanger with the other universe's Miles being the Prowler at the end is controversial, but I don't mind it. I am so excited for Beyond The Spider-Verse and what it has in store. Overall, one of my favorite movies of all time! Expand

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is a triumph in both storytelling and animation, weaving a multiverse-spanning tale that captures the essence of the Spider-Man mythos while pushing the boundaries of visual creativity. This animated"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is a triumph in both storytelling and animation, weaving a multiverse-spanning tale that captures the essence of the Spider-Man mythos while pushing the boundaries of visual creativity. This animated masterpiece, a sequel to the acclaimed "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," is a kaleidoscope of artistry and innovation that further cements its place as one of the most remarkable superhero films of all time.

The film's narrative brilliance lies in its ability to seamlessly meld heart-pounding action, emotional depth, and comic book sensibilities. The introduction of a multidimensional narrative opens up endless possibilities, allowing different iterations of Spider-People to coexist while deepening our understanding of their struggles and aspirations. This exploration of diverse characters adds layers of complexity to the Spider-Man legacy and resonates with audiences on a profound level.

Visually, "Across the Spider-Verse" is a tour de force. The animation style remains distinct and groundbreaking, seamlessly blending 2D and 3D techniques to create a living comic book on screen. Each frame bursts with vibrant colors, dynamic movement, and innovative visual storytelling, evoking the feeling of flipping through the pages of a comic while immersing audiences in a fully realized cinematic experience.

Beyond its technical prowess, the film excels in character development and emotional resonance. Miles Morales, the heart of the story, continues to shine as a relatable and inspiring Spider-Man. His journey of self-discovery, growth, and the challenges of embracing his role as a hero form the emotional core of the narrative. The relationship between Miles and his mentor, Peter B. Parker, further explores themes of legacy, responsibility, and the enduring spirit of heroism.

The introduction of Gwen Stacy, Spider-Woman, adds depth to the narrative by exploring her universe and experiences. The interactions between the various Spider-People, each with their unique quirks and backgrounds, create a rich tapestry of camaraderie and teamwork that underscores the essence of the Spider-Man ethos – anyone can wear the mask.

While celebrating the film's strengths, it's worth noting that its fast-paced narrative and multiverse complexities might occasionally pose challenges for viewers unfamiliar with Spider-Man lore. However, the film's sheer entertainment value and emotional resonance are universally relatable, making it an enjoyable experience even for newcomers to the Spider-Verse.

In conclusion, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is a cinematic gem that pushes the boundaries of storytelling, animation, and superhero narratives. Its multidimensional approach to the Spider-Man mythos is a triumph of creativity and inclusivity, showcasing the potential of the superhero genre to evolve while staying true to its core themes. As it propels audiences across universes, emotions, and spectrums of imagination, the film solidifies its place as an unforgettable contribution to both cinematic artistry and the beloved legacy of Spider-Man.

Some of the coolest part is to see the unique designs for each of them, ranging from a London punk to a motorcycle chick. But that's only the beginning of the dazzling, sometimes dizzying visuals. With the exception of the family and girlfriend interactions, everything else is rendered in incredible, constantly-changing styles to echo the history of the comic book processes. There's some humor,  a few tender moments and it could be shorter, but most of the film is an animated feast that also happens to be fun. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A solid movie.

They went above and beyond in terms of animation, makes the old one almost look flat in comparison. Every universe is animated differently and it works very well.

The score is also very solid, on par with the animation, it's better than the first one which was very good to begin with.

There's a lot of fan-service but it's never too distracting.

Story is great, Miles' struggle and feeling of being left out, betrayed and forgotten is very well constructed. The man gave up his art path to pursue multi-dimensional travel, just to find out that his crush, who had the means to get to him the whole time, was too busy seeing another dude to even bother. It sets up a very nice story that I hope will end well.

The movie is also funny when it wants to and serious when it has to, it's very well balanced.

Beside that, the movie has some issues. First of all: it's very long, maybe too long. I don't see myself rewatching it as much as I rewatched the first one. Some scenes really drag out more than necessary. Individual scenes are fine but when they are put all together I just start to feel tired.

This is especially evident when you consider that this movie cannot stand on its own legs, it needs a part 2. It really feels like "Episode 1 of 2". It's not even like Infinity War: this movie has absolutely no payoff, it just builds up and keeps building up to something we won't get to see until the next one is out. So as much as I liked this one, this and its sequels should be considered a single movie came out in two pieces. And my liking for this movie will be affected by the next one.

My second issue with this movie is the fact that the moral dilemma raised by Miguel is never challenged by anyone else. Seeing the spectacular Spiderman is cool, but I think he's out of character, and this is also true with many other Spiderman iterations. They all act like minions and honestly it's kinda stupid that none of them were able to subdue Miles. I get why they had to be overshadowed, but it also cheapens them a lot. I would have rather seen either a big clash between factions or a smaller group of Spiders actually chasing Miles.

The high point of wonders here for me comes late in the 2nd act when Miles and his mom talk alone. The mom is the most successful animated character in this film. The film goes on for another 20 minutes of wonderful lyrical visuals. Then I lost track of the plot almost completely. How a multiverse is affected by tangled webs of various Spider-people didn't work as an emotional thru-line for me. ANIMATION JAZZ returns! Animation nerds will know many effects here hark back to animation experiments in the 1950s-1960s of John and Faith Hubley et al. Generally these old pretentious visual effects are put to much better story use here--if several times overdone to the point of sensory overload. DC comics fans will note the Green Lantern Corps clearly inspired the Spider-person Corps here. Be ready for several jolting new spider-personas. I liked their choices. This is another movie which would play longer in theaters if 20 minutes of bloat was cut out; in this case, from end of 2nd act. Expand

This is a stylish and heartfelt movie that solidifies Miles' place in the multiverse as a Spider-Man. It further fleshes out his relationship with his parents and his determination to break the mold.

The direction, animation and art style are all incredible. Visually the movie is stylish and gorgeous. The voice acting is very heartfelt and believable. The soundtrack is fitting.

The writing is excellent, it makes you care for the protagonist's motivations. However the movie should not be treated as a standalone and be treated the same way as the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Avengers: Infinity Sage i.e. a part of the greater story arc.

Overall it's an excellent movie and I was tempted to give it a 10 but for the sole reason that this movie cannot be watched as a standalone takes the 1 point away.

WhetherI didn't think much of the predecessor to this animated wonder and therefore I didn't carry sky-high expectations. And yet, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is about as close as you can get to seeing a comic book coming to life. Whether it's movies or series.
This is far above any Spider-Man series ever made.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse deals with multiple universes and yet its greatest achievement is having an identity that makes it its own universe. Even with the cameos and the several easter eggs from other Spider-Man movies.

This has achieved a pulsating and vibrant life and spirit that makes it probably the best movie ever made about Spider-Man to date. Maybe it's the emotion talking but honestly what I saw here far surpasses Maguire's trilogy, Garfield dilogy and Holland's trilogy. It's that good.

The animation is a portentous masterpiece. There is so much to unravel in all the styles and colors displayed on screen that I was truly enraptured. And the music. Daniel Pemberton music was outstanding.
I was amazed with the whole thing.

I won't tell you more. See it for yourselves. Believe the hype.

The pacing is a little uneven, the first film had a great flow but in this the pacing is overly slow in places and drawn out and frantic in others especially as it rushes to a cliffhanger ending. I wish they had finished the story in a single movie rather than going for the cash-grab route by kind of forcing people to watch the next movie to see the ending. They could have finished the episode with better pacing, such as by chopping out the party scenes which were just repeating plot points that had already been made earlier. The sound in the IMAX screening was perfect, in the Dolby Atmos screening it was overly loud and caused some of the dialogue to be too be difficult to hear in places. Full credit to the animators, they have created another visual masterpiece, with gorgeous design again elevating the medium to new levels, each world is unique yet they all feel cohesive. I rate the first film a perfect 10, this one with a tighter script and the whole story in a single film would have been a 10 again, but overall its not quite as good as the first. I will definitely buy it on 4k UHD to watch at home again. Expand

I was thrilled at it getting a sequel but was slightly worried it won't live up to the first one. Is Across the Spider-Verse a worthy sequel or one universe that should've been closed?

Firstly, let's get the obvious out of the way. The animation is SPECTACULAR! The animation and art style changing depending on what universe the characters are in or even what universe the characters are from was a great creative choice. The way the characters move, the vibrancy and the colours of the world are so gorgeous and beautifully crafted. The action scenes are thrilling and exciting while also being well-choreographed. The soundtrack is still phenomenal here as well, with a special mention of Spider-Gwen's theme. In terms of story, Spider-Gwen has a bigger focus this time. We get more exploration of her backstory and her struggles, such as loneliness and guilt. Her character arc is one of the great highlights of this film. Miles Morales is still of course the main focus as well and has his struggles too. He is starting to experience the "Spider-Man" problem of balancing his own life with the responsibility of Spider-man. The sequel continues his arc of trying to become his own hero and it is still very compelling. The chemistry between both Miles and Gwen is strong with their relationship being one of the things I enjoyed. Spider-Man 2099 returns from the post-credit of the previous film to a major role in this entry. I like that he is the one Spider-Man who doesn't joke like the others as it furthers the contrast between him and Miles. The way he is animated feels more inhuman as well which makes him significantly frightening. He isn't the main villain though, that comes to a character called The Spot. He is a very interesting villain as he comes off as very goofy and silly. His origin is also a bit ridiculous. Despite all that, the directors managed to make him come off as very threatening with how they used his abilities. It is impressive that made a lame-looking character be that menacing. The returning voice cast such as Shameik Moore as Miles, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen, Brian Tyree Henry as Jeff, Luna Lauren Vélez as Rio Morales, and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker is still great here. Oscar Isaac also returns as Spider-Man 2099 and he is awesome. In terms of the new voice cast, Jason Schwartzman is terrific as The Spot with how he portrays both the silly and serious side of the antagonist. Karan Soni is funny as Spider-Man India and Daniel Kaluuya is quite cool as Spider-Punk. Despite the multiverse theme, the information dumps never become too much. They are written in an understandable way that the audience can still digest. The humour is still genuinely funny and there wasn't a joke that didn't land

In terms of issues, I do find the second act a little bit too long. The second act is mostly about the family drama of Miles Morales and it does go on for quite a while. It doesn't help that the importance of this drama doesn't come into play in this film but most likely the next one, so it doesn't even have a proper payoff. Additionally, the sound mixing can be a bit off. It is sometimes a little difficult to hear dialogue during scenes with loud music or action. This is especially noticeable in the beginning with the drums feeling way more loud than the dialogue. This is also very clearly a part 1 film. It ends at a point where it feels like it is about to enter the final act but it just ends before it does. If the aim was to make me desperate for the next movie then it succeeded!

Overall, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a very worthy sequel that builds upon everything that made the first great. The multiverse is such an overdone thing but this film still somehow makes it feel fresh! If the final movie in this trilogy is as good in quality as both this and the first movie, we might have one of the best trilogies in cinema history! The 3rd film can't come soon enough because I am dying to watch it!

Really good film! Certainly recommend with a couple notes: (no spoilers)

1. It's a part 1 of 2 and I didn't know that - wish I did 2. It's visually intense, like your eyes are in a blender the whole time and it's hard to take in everything

2. It's visually intense, like your eyes are in a blender the whole time and it's hard to take in everything that's going on
3. A lot of fun, adventure, action, and legit funny parts. Plus, interesting new characters
4. The story is more complex and intense than the previous, leaning into dark at times
5. It's about 50/50 Gwen v Miles. Maybe even more Gwen.

Better than the first in every way, animation was phenomenal. Just may be the best animated film I’ve ever seen in my life, as long as the next one is just as good, if not better. Which I’m sure it will be.

Although I feel the 'Superhero' film genre is oversaturated and has been slowly declining in quality; I am happy to say that this movie has been excluded from the current downturn. Across the Spider-Verse's beautiful and fluent animation, great story, and spectacular acting are all examples of filmmaking in its purest and most creative form. The only problem's I have with the film are centered around some issues with its pacing, primarily how it ends on a massive cliffhanger, and that some of the audio was quite hard to hear, which could be a problem with my local theater's equipment and not the movie itself. You should absolutely watch Across the Spider-Verse, but ready up for a lengthy wait to get a solid conclusion to the story set up in the film. Expand
