Just a forgettable and bad movie. Sometimes you go into a movie with low expectations but you know it's Star Wars so it has huge potential and then you get just the low expectations. Meh. Pass on this one.

Borderline competent filler movie attempting to use Khaleesi and the Force to produce some cash. You're not missing anything by skipping it.

It is the inverse of the problem I have with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. While that movie’s first two acts are a slog to get through, the third act is excellent and it ends off on a very high note. With Solo, the first two acts are great, but it really falls apart in the third. The pacing slows down to a crawl and you’re just waiting for the movie to end at that point. They really should’ve found a way to streamline the last act to keep up the energy of the rest of the movie. That probably wasn’t possible because of the extremely extensive reshoots, though. Honestly, I’m surprised this movie is as good as it is and not a Suicide Squad-level disaster. Overall, I’m sure this movie will be in my regular Star Wars rewatch rotation, but it’s one of my least favourites. I like most of the movie, but the ending kills it for me. Which is worse? A boring movie with a great ending or an exciting movie with a boring ending? I really don’t know. I have to say, I definitely prefer the Star Wars sequel trilogy to the spinoffs, and I’m very happy to hear that Lucasfilm will be slowing down with the spinoffs in the future. That’s a good move on their part, I think. Expand

the absence of a second part, would show Disney as a machine not interested in Star Wars fans, imagine Walt Disney and Lucas working together it would be so different. They bought Our dreams and Now they give us nightmares

IThis is the most fun I had watching a Star Wars movie, since probably when I was a kid. Many people complaining seem to be stuck in nostalgia and expect every star wars movie ever, to look and feel exactly like the originals in every way. I like the new ones, but they also are a bit formulaic and somewhat boring even at times. (I fell asleep during Rogue One). This film is very creative and reminded me of the imagination and joy of watching the original star wars movies, more so than really any star wars film since. The recent ones all have a kind of heaviness to them, which is great for story and drama, and I like them as well, but this film is more joyous, creative, and more fun to me. If you like Star Wars at all, you should definitely see the movie, and see what you think as...the "poor" reviews made me wait this long and I don't even know what such people are looking at. Its a really enjoyable Star Wars films, and one of my favorite's of all time. Expand

Not only does it cover the basics of a good film, but it is a worthy addition to SW. It has a few things that were not of my liking, such as the pointless deaths of Rio and Val, the 'droid rights' activism from L3-37 (which I think is rather annoying and unnecessary), and the fact that it's not very sinister or dark considering it's a crime film. On the other hand, it counts with impressive acting talent, beautiful visuals, interesting additions to and from the SW lore, and a rather unique aesthetic design for the beloved Millenium Falcon. It may not be the best film out there, but Solo is a definite recommend, not just for SW fans, but for anyone. Expand

It had the minimal amount of dragging and useless dialog. It had the right amount of action scenes which where perfectly executed and kept simple and believable but still managing to 'wow' the audience. It also satisfied most of fan expectation shedding light to a very interesting, fun and entertaining back story of one of the most important major characters in the Star Wars universe.
The acting was very good, and top notch by every single one of them. The directing was done with great care as well, just as the scenes and the script suggests the work of a professional. Also the story was very good and entertaining and also kept real to the environment and previously set rules of the world and other story lines in it. The humor was very fitting and added another layer of entertainment to the movie.
Overall it is an amazing movie, better than most with this brand. Very well executed, with care and expertise which shows in every single aspect of the movie and the level of detail. And did better than most of it, and it is still under appreciated.

With excitement and love to the franchise, but with a Han Solo a little decaffeinated and too many dark scenes, we have a movie that is enjoyed like the classic ones.

Solo is an up-tempo rambunctious space venture that pays wondrous tribute to the origins of many beloved Star Wars characters and is the prime reason this film as merit to go see. Donald Glover in particular gives a strong reinvention of the Lando character and most of the performances were genuine memorable performances and not impressions. There is a life within this movie and it rides with these characters, but they're being thrust into a story and vision that has very little coherence or purpose whatsoever. Had this been a mini-series or more evoking vision, Solo would be a wondrous Star Wars story. But the movie itself has really nothing to offer or leave you with. It has many exciting things in it, but aside from the character performances, Solo is better experienced by purchasing the soundtrack, which hails more worth and awe than the movie itself. A hit and miss. Expand

Plot: 7

The second instalment of Star Wars Anthology explores the adventures of young Han Solo in his early day as a smuggler before the events of Rogue One and Episode 4: A New Hope.

In an attempt to escape from a local criminal gang, young Han Solo (Ehrenreich) is separated from his lover, Qi'ra (Clarke), whom got captured by the gang. To avoid being capture as well, Han sign up for the Imperial Academy to be a pilot but he is expelled three years later due to insubordination and become an infantry.

During the Battle of Mimban, Han rescue a Wookie named, Chewbacca, and they together escape the battlefield with a criminal gangs led by Tobias Beckett. Han and Chewbacca worked together with Beckett in a heist to steal a shipment of coaxium, a powerful hyperspace fuel but it was a failure due to interference from Cloud Riders and the destruction of coaxium.

Han, Chewbacca and Beckett report back to Dryden Vos, a crime boss in Crimson Dawn syndicate about Beckett’s failure as he was working for Vos. Han also reunite with Qi'ra (who now works for Vos as top lieutenant) and he proposes to Vos that he will steal another shipment of coaxium to make up for Beckett’s failure and pay the debt. Together with Qi'ra, Han and his team locate a man named Lando Calrissian (Glover), who will be able to aid them in their mission.

Although Han and Lando are not portrayed by Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams, Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover have done a great job with their portrayal of the characters. Same goes to Emilia Clarke as well who have done a great job in her acting. There is also some important Easter Eggs as well as a huge surprise cameo which I do not expect it at all. However, the pacing of the movie is little too fast and could have been a little longer runtime. While the movie does serve as a good entry to the franchise, it does not really add anything new. Personally, I felt this movie is would be better off as novel or a television series.

Despite the taking over as the director during the late production, Ron Howard deserved to be praised for direction as he managed to make this movie enjoyable to watch which I personally thought this movie could be ruin due to behind-the-scenes shenanigan but he has done everything he can. If you want to know more about Han Solo’s background, this is the movie you would want to watch. Other than that, this movie does not directly connect to other instalments unlike Rogue One.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie failed to make me care. the introduction alone is 55 minutes and the actually story feels like side mission because it is not related to what the character wants. we were told that it would be about Han trying to reunite with his girlfriend but instead it's about going on an adventure to repay a mafia boss. and this Han solo character acts, looks, and is nothing like the one that we know and love in the original series. Han was supposed to be a mysterious confident space pirate with a long mysterious past. that is what made him Han Solo, but in this movie it explained every detail of his life and a bunch of other crap i don't care about and they did it very poorly. listen I don't care how Han got his gun, I don't care how he met Lando, I don't care how he got the falcon, met chewy, became a great pilot, or how he made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs or even what that means, because none of it matters. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT HOW HAN SOLO CAME TO BE, I CARE ABOUT HAN SOLO. and this man is not even in the process of becoming him. 4/10 Expand

As far as I'm concerned The Last Jedi earned every bit of the negative backlash it received. Solo, taken on it's own merits, is actually a decent film. It's a nice entertaining Star Wars story about how Han Solo met Chewie and got his ship. Not every Star Wars film has to be have the fate of the galaxy at stake. It's nice to see a more contained character driven story about a much smaller problem. There were a lot of little eater eggs for hardcore Star Wars fans which I absolutely loved (The bag guy knows Teras Kasi and fights with vibro knucklers. I nearly died when I saw that).

The film also appropriately addresses the Han shot first debate by canonically showing you that Han is absolutely the type of person who shoots first.

This resulted in making me interested in almost each character, but this absolutely wasn't enough to make me care for them when they are in danger as much as I should. Case in point, the first battle in which I didn't feel the least threat to the characters. But the biggest problem here is that I was nearly lost in the story. I was having fun seeing the characters react and talk, especially because they all have great chemistry with each other, but that definitely isn't what a movie need to be good.

Fortunately, the things got progressively better after the first act till this flaw completely diminished and then entirely disappeared. With that in mind, I became totally invested in the story as much as I was, and was still, invested in the characters.

The battle scenes, and the action set-pieces don't seem fresh or new, and that's exactly what made them so much fun to watch. Ron Howard shot the action sequences in a very classical way, and that's made me feel as I was watching one of the original trilogy's movies. That was very nostalgic!
Almost every scene that takes place inside the Millennium Falcon is staggering! Notably, the long battle scene that appeared in the movie's trailer. This scene is my favorite scene in the entire movie; it is a very intense scene that put me on the edge of my seat, add to that it showcases how terrific the chemistry between our main characters is. Ron Howard's vision of the Millennium Falcon is really looks fresh.

The action isn't the only thing in Solo that feels old-fashioned, but that applies to almost every aspect in this movie, most notably the denouement of the plot. The plot has classic plan that has plenty of back-to-back twists and turns near the end of the movie. Most of them worked pretty well, and I really was fooled many times, except the last one that was downright dull and stupid.

Alden Ehrenreich did a great job as the titular character. It's not like he was the only choice to play Han Solo, but he did his best embodying the character, and walked the fine line between coolness and imprudence that I couldn't help but imagine Harrison Ford's face watching him In action. In addition, Han's scenes with Chewbacca are magical as always.
I was worried about Emilia Clarke playing a Star Wars character, simply because I'm not a big fan of her, but she really proved that I was wrong just at the first scene she was in, and I found myself related to her character very fast.
Woody Harrelson is fantastic as always, and had a great chemistry with every actor he appeared with. Also, I loved his character. I think it has some depth, and that's the case with all the main characters.
Donald Glover just nailed it as Lando! He has an unparalleled charisma that really suits his character pretty well that I can't imagine any actor except him playing this role.
But there is one particular character, and one particular performance that really got my attention, and standed out for me. The performance is Thandie Newton's as Val. Her character has a very small role in the movie, but Thandie Newton took this character to another level, and made it one of the most interesting side characters in the movie.
As for the side character that I loved so much, it's the stubborn droid, L3-37. She was a scene-stealer with her funny lines and jokes that are rarely miss, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge's vocal performance was impeccable!

Speaking of the humor, unlike The Last Jedi, this movie didn't try too hard to make its jokes funny. The purpose of the humor here is to keep the movie light-hearted, instead of making us laughing. That being said, most of the jokes worked well for me, especially those which cane from the comic relief character, L3-37 as I mentioned above. To be honest, there are a couple of jokes that fall flat for me, not necessarily because they aren't funny, but because the timing of these jokes was very imprecise, and they didn't match the tone in some particular times.

The visual and sound effects are top-notch as any recent Star Wars film. So I hope the movie gets an Oscar nod in at least one of these categories like every Star Wars movie so far.

Overall, I enjoyed Solo: A Star Wars Story so much, and I wasn't expecting that at all. It's a fun old-fashioned fast-paced action flick that can satisfy any one who wants to watch an entertaining movie while having some popcorn. This movie by no means deserves the hate it got.

If you can instead seperate this movie from Han Solo and watch it as an extended universe/smuggler/anti hero movie, then it does actualy come to life alot more. Some nice tie ins to the SW universe and some very cool scenes put this movie ahead (atleast in my opinion) of all the Disney Star wars films to date.

Putting it bluntly this movie should never of been about Han Solo, it's simply not good enough and to try and capture the feeling of Harrison Ford as Han Solo was never going to work

Could do alot better but ultimately could of done a hell of alot worse.

It was ambitious to make a film telling Han's origin story and while it had it's high points, the lead actors portrayal of Harrison Ford lacked something for me. I have seen another actor, can't remember his name, but he would have been a much better choice. Between a so-so story and the new thing Disney has been doing injecting politics or social justice ideas into their movies, I just couldn't enjoy Solo. A robot fighting for robot rights? Pansexual-ism? Seriously?! Leave politics out of movies like this. They're supposed to be fun and an escape from the crap we hear on the news every night. Expand

Disney has full access to the Star Wars universe and continues to attempt to cash in on stories related to that which we have already seen. Regardless, Solo is an above average movie, despite its at times choppy editing, and rushed plot points such as the Kessel Run and Han meeting Chewbacca.

For me, the two brightest characters of the film were Woody Harrelson's Tobias and Emilia Clarke's Qi'ra, and to avoid spoilers, I will leave it at that. I also really enjoyed meeting the leader of the Crimson Dawn, but I doubt we will see a big screen follow up to flush his story out.

Overall, Solo was an above average movie, but nothing overly special.

The movie succeeded in what is set out to be, a fun heist film that fits nicely in the star wars universe. My only gripe is that Han wasn't quite "Hany" enough, but he was written really well. All around the script was really well written, the cinematography was excellent, and I find myself wishing I had gone to see it in the theaters and I would have if TLJ hadn't turned me off to Disney's Star Wars just a few months earlier. Solo sets out to tell a fitting origin story for one of Star Wars most iconic characters; it tries, and fails. Simple as that. The Star Wars universe is one of infinite potential. With such a unique basis in a sort of spatial technology world with spaceships and unique creatures and robots and lightsabers and the force, you really could keep on expanding the universe forever. But when the arrows in your film’s quiver consist of a boring train robbery scene and an unimaginative prison breakout… you’ve done something wrong. But on top of that, this movie’s narrative is so cryptic; so many things take place without emphasized context. Events happen and are so poorly explained or hinted at beforehand as well as afterwards; and in a franchise where traveling between separate galaxies is a common transitioning tool, cryptic storytelling is the last thing you want to have in your movie. Yet this dude just did this thing and I have no idea why. But another problem with this movie are the characters. A young, restless, rouge Han Solo is what they were going for… but he just comes off as so wooden and shallow; and the supporting characters aren’t even memorable enough to be significant. I think the only redeemable parts of this movie are Chewbacca’s character (Even though correctly writing a character who only ever makes weird sounds and gestures isn’t very impressive) and (my favorite part of the movie) L3. A sort of robot rights-activist which acts as satire of modern radical feminism is such a clever concept; and I was enjoying her presence in the film so much that I was waiting in enthusiastic anticipation for every new scene the movie shot with her because I was hyped to see her reactions and comments on every scenario. She supplied real laughs from me. But she was not enough to save the movie from being cryptic, bland, and boring; and a movie about star… wars… should never be boring. Expand

The Kessel Run

Solo: A Star Wars Story (80/100)

Introducing Chewie Score(10/10)

Introducing the Millenium Falcon Score(10/10)

Tie Fighters in the Maelstrom Score(0/5) They would never do this(they shouldn’t have followed them into the asteroid field in TESB either.)

Going back to save your friends score(10/10) This was the moment when the movie became more than a 3 star experience.

Kessel Run Score(5/10) As far as I’m aware there is no canon of Star Wars reference data which contains the official explanation of the use of “parsec” to measure the trip. Whether it’s a boast about the ships speed or it’s navigational technology is still up in the air. And Han’s boast in Episode IV is about the ship’s speed so the theories about the ship’s navigation make no sense. This would have been the perfect place to establish a canonical explanation.

“Less than 12 parsecs” Score(0/5) So is he rounding down or not?

Good Guy and Bad Guys Score(10/10) A excellent cast of characters, expecially the new ones. Much better new characters than in Episodes VII and VIII.

Lovable Droid Score(8/10) No R2d2’s here but still good.

Metanarrative Score(7/10) Still trialing the MCU here but making progress. I’ve been surprised how well I’ve liked the “gap story” movies. But they’ve still never reached the quality they had in Episodes IV – VI. It does seem that they’ll be continuing this story in later “gap story” movies.

Romance Score(Guy gets girl, guy loses girl, guy gets girl back)(20/20) A nice take on the classic storyline.

80/100

A plot that I just don't care about. It's no wonder this was a box office failure. Good riddance. This was tedious at best to get through. Whomever decided upon the final color grade ought to be slapped because everything was waaaaay too dark, especially for this being a Han Solo film. Am I missing something? When was it decided that Star Wars has to be this dark and gritty in look, but have no story content that is at all that dark to begin with? The tone is half one way, half the other. Honestly: if you're thinking about watching this, I don't recommend. Expand

It plays out some new and familiar characters in ways that put them in a fresh light.... The movie takes you to many intriguing and well displayed places in the starwars universe, and builds the world without feeling boring or trite like *cough cough* some other star wars movies. The characters are written a tad bit off from the originals, but in such a way as to still do them justice as they are younger and possibly have a slightly different personality that isn't as chizeled as in the original trilogy (which i quite liked). Great CGI, great cinematography, great direction, and overall tremendous improvement in terms of general viewing experience. I finally didn't find myself sighing after every scene, nor did i get bored, or feel underwhelmed by the execution of the acting. I would watch this movie over any of the core star wars movies in the recent trilogy. I really don't see why half the people don't like it.... The robot was a tad bit out their..... but honestly.... It wasn't nearly as bad as people are making it out to be... It's just a slightly more eccentric character than C3PO.... Really don't understand the hate... people just want to hate on everything starwars... which i completely understand... but i was thoroughly surprised to find that the movie was above my expectations. The plot takes place approximately ten years prior to the events of A New Hope, and explores the early adventures of Han Solo and Chewbacca, who join a heist within the criminal underworld. You shouldn't go into this with the same expectation anyone would have for the sequel trilogy ('The Force Awakens', 'The Last Jedi'). With that in mind, one should be mildly entertained by this movie. The casts did very well in their performance. I do have a problem with the plot though. It is decent, but just is not good enough to make this a good movie. The plots and scenes goes along the style of mindless action type, which I am usually not a fan of. There are some nice twists in the end, but even that feels like forced out of nowhere, implying there is a lack of cohesiveness in its execution.

This is a decent watch on the whole. Just don't expect too much out of this film.

This movie has become one of my favorite Star Wars movies now and I think it will become another classic down the line. The characters all feel believable in the Star Wars universe; especially Han Solo. It's awesome to see his arrogance brewing when he is young and also how clumsy/innocent he was about the world. He still has that charisma and charm that feels like Han Solo. The other supporting characters were awesome too and felt equal in importance to Han Solo. They were all great additions and I hope to see them return in later sequels. The acting from everyone was terrific. The action was top notch; way better than M:I-Fallout. I also loved the humor in this entry. As well as the romance. There were a lot of unexpected surprises in the movie that made me smile. Overall, I can't wait for the next movie that follows this plot line. It's the best modern Star Wars movie lately! Expand

In this movie, there are no major transgressions against the established lore (see the hyperspace Kamikaze maneuver in The Last Jedi) or questions left unexplained (see "Who even IS Snoke?" and "What was the point of the Dark Side Hole?" in The Last Jedi). So, what is there? What is this? Well, it's simply a fun backstory movie for Han, Chewie and Lando, and it doesn't pretend to be anything more than that. Whatever the characters do makes sense, the plot is simple but there is just enough at stake with just enough twists that it still makes sense (unlike The Last Jedi, like seriously WTF was that movie?) and the humour is pretty fitting for the younger versions of the characters we already know. Where Rogue One was gritty and impactful, where The Force Awakens was fresh and exciting, where The Last Jedi was pretentious and confusing, Han Solo is lighthearted, enjoyable and very much re-watchable.

The prospect of seeing Han Solo’s earliest adventures in this universe could have established a solid spin-off series, but the Kasdan’s script says otherwise. The lack of characterization regarding Han Solo and his earlier years, as well as the other new characters around him, makes for a rather boring introduction that again, on paper, would be great. The most infuriating aspect of this picture arguably is the lazy attempts at explaining basic fundamentals of Han’s life as we knew it back in 1977. Without spoilers, the film rushes through many plot ideas that could make for a much better and cohesive story, in an effort to establish a flip-flop twist of a finale that doesn’t even make much sense. Also, without staying for the end credits, no one would know that this film was helmed by Ron Howard, which is extremely disappointing. Honestly, Disney should have a major inner-reworking when it comes to their Lucasfilm branch, as they currently resemble the likes of a six-year-old with their parent’s credit card in a toy store - running from one thing to the other without much thought - and in Disney’s case, a lack of care regarding execution and long-term, emotionally investing stories, which is what Star Wars has been known for. I hated Last Jedi and thought it badly written, full of glaring plot holes, politically motivated and a sad way to kill of key characters. Now enter Solo, a movie I had very low expectations of after Last Jedi and some average reviews. Personally I think this is a great Star Wars movie, no political crap thrown in, no plot holes just a solid movie that back fills the story of Han Solo's rise to become a smuggler and meeting some characters we know well from other movies.

It has all the ingredients I needed for a good Star Wars movie, without ever elevating to becoming a true great like Empire. However it's not that kind of movie, it repairs some (only some) of the damage that Last Jedi did to the franchise. Keep up the good work guys, I would be very happy to see Solo turn into a trilogy or beyond.

Directed by Ron Howard. Written by Jonathan Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan.
This movie first come to answer some questions that no one really asked, some characters that exist and we end up loving them, wich is the case of Darth Vader, when they did the prequels, they completely screwed the character in a way that mostly surely prefer to considered that those movies aren't part of the cronology, in this one they gave a origin of the criminal life of Han Solo, don't worry because it isn't nowhere close as what they did with Anakin in the prequels, but still, i'm not sure if i really wanted to know this story in the way that it was told, it felt rushed, feeling like almost everything that we know about the character happened in one week, the time passing in the movie isn't very well represented. The movie have one aspect that i don't like much anywhere, wich is the convenient coincidence, that one character needs one thing and is looking after that hardly, and suddenly he goes to one place and voilà, there it is, i don't always think that this kind of way to progress the story is lazy. The story overall, beyond those things, contains a bunch of little flaws, like a character that needs to go to a place, but he can't be reconized, so he sends a represented of his assemble, but the represented have a mark in his pulse that directly turns on to him, that was weak. Another weak point was on his name, like damn, considering what happened next on the movies, that didn't made any sense to me. A point at the story that didn't pleased me very much, was the careless about characters, some people die during the course of the movie, and you don't really care, like, they were pretty bad in making you care about most of the characters during this movie, even the main ones, you already know how they are going to end up, so it didn't really end up well in this point. But it ain't all bad, even with all of these problems, we gotta consider that this movie isn't supose to be as deep and emotional as the most others of the franchise, this one actually is more a 2 hour fun with not much depth, the story isn't the most cliche ever, it ain't new, it is more about heists, with plans and stuff, and that worked out very well for me, it was nice to see they assembling and having some plans. Some answers on how something end up in other movies in here was really nice, for me the chewbacca part was very nice, it was fun and surprising, because i didn't expected to him to show or teaming up like that, it was good. Somethings that we really wanted to see was the Kessel Run moment, that is referenced during the whole franchise, and for me it worked very well, it wasn't great to watch, but it was good, it get me to understand better how did that worked and what exactly happened in that circumstance. There are some plot twists in the movie, a bit of those worked, but it got so predictable, that at the same time got ridiculous that how the characters didn't knew by themselves what was going on.
The action of the movie is at least functional, it doesn't have anything special, i didn't got impressed as i'm used to in the star wars movies, it is the basic "pew pew pew" and nothing much further than that. The spaceships and cars moments, in other hand, i really enjoyed, the pilot that Han is, i think it got well represented in here. Another action moments and characters interactions during the movie, for me, did saved it in a lot of moments.
Alden Ehrenreich did a very good job, i gotta say, i got surprised in here, i really liked his impressions most of the time, he could get the mannerisms of Harrison Ford in the character, the little things, in the details, i thinks that it was really nice, there one or two moments that i didn't bought what was going on, but mostly, i think that he did good. Emilia Clarke work very well in romantic moments, in action moments i didn't got very convinced, and neither in her lies during the movie, i knew by far that she wasn't saying the true and got me shocked that the other characters didn't. Donald Glover did good, he convinced me better then anyone that he was the youngest version of that Lando Calrissian by Billy Dee Williams, he got the details very well, the trickery and the confidence was very well portraied. Paul Bettany did well for me, i villain that we don't know when is safe or not.

It wasn't a dramatic masterpiece but I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. While Force Awakens and Last Jedi were far more polished, I had much bigger narrative and directorial issues with both than I did Solo. I thought the fan service peppered throughout was handled impeccably, Alden Ehrenreich did an uncanny job capturing young Harrison Ford's mannerisms as Solo, and Glover was superb as Lando. If you're a fan of the original trilogy do not let the polarizing views dissuade you from seeing this on a big screen and judge for yourself. Expand

Promosso. Expand

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" was a good movie, although a bit slow to what the Star Wars rhythm had us used to, the performances were good, and the special effects and photography were great for their time.

Correcta pero sin chispa. Coger a un personaje como Han Solo era un error desde el principio y no logra transmitir, salvo en ciertas ocasiones como en Kessel, el estar de lleno en el mundo de SW.

I think it might get an 8 if the removed the stupid droid... I hate characters in movies and games who just hurl quip after quip... I appreciate some social commentary as well if it's handled right but this was just a bit over the top. I thought the movie wasn't paced very well either. It jumps from origin story to train heist pretty fast and all of the worlds and locations are only featured briefly so they don't leave an impression. The cast did a pretty good job, especially Ehrenreich. Filling the shoes of Han Solo is an impossible task but he did a good job of showing a younger more optimistic Han. I also like that the movie has a light tone and isn't unnecessarily dark to try and create tension or something like that. All in all not bad but could have been better. Expand

But I'm not going to lie...I didn't think it was that bad. But it still confirms the fact that this movie is corporate as hell.

Alden Ehrenreich I feel bad for because he's not terrible in this. He's not good either, but it is super **** clear how he was directed in trying to impersonate Harrison Ford. And it just never worked, he comes off awkward in a lot of parts, lacking in any of the iconic charm of Ford's iconic performance. But then again with how bland Han is as a character here I don't blame the meh performance. The same thing can be said about Donald Glover as Lando. Now don't get me wrong Glover does bring his charm and charisma as usual, which is why him being cast is perfect casting, but again with Ehrenreich, it is super clear that he's forced to copy Billy Dee Williams as Lando. The rest of the actors range, from passable with Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke, to good like with Paul Bettany and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. And Chewbacca was pretty great as usual god bless.

If there is one thing that saves this movie, is that the action scenes are pretty damn great. There's a lot of fun set pieces like the hovercraft chase at the beginning and the train heist, and the shootouts are pretty decent too, being competently shot and edited. Speaking of shot composition, I'll give Ron Howard this, the cinematography and blocking is great with some impressive shots. Ron Howard is not the best director when it comes with making impressive looking films as much as he does make safe looking films in terms of the visual style of film-making. But here Howard stepped up his game as a visual director. However it is super clear this film was micromanaged by Disney. Now the movie is typical Star Wars, the score is pretty good from John Powell (though nowhere near John Williams), the special and visual effects are great and in high care, not a bad CGI shot here, the production design and costumes and alien designs are top notch. But nothing can save this safe and passe script. A script that dare I say if Lord and Miller was kept on they wouldn't save this movie. Yeah...I said it!

The dialogue is atrocious! Everyone has made fun of how Han got his name, but like all around so much of what is being said just made me cringe all around. It's nowhere as bad as Prequel dialogues, but it's not the fun kind of corny like the Original trilogy or even the Sequels, it's just groan worthy. It's either the ham-fisted callback to the original films or obnoxious exposition. But the big problem is how safe this movie felt. You expect the movie to explore a little bit about the character of Han Solo or how Han Solo became the character he is, but the movie barely attempted to develop Solo as a character. He's just a boring hero who just fumbles around until he gets the Millennium Falcon. There's a shocking amount of boring with Han here, there's barely any growth and no depth. Like I get the lack of stake with Han because we know he'll live, but you could still try to make him fun or interesting. He's just the hero! A hero with a corny romance with Emilia Clarke. It's sad that while the romance isn't Anakin and Padme bad, but it's so boring and bland! Every other character is also flat, from Beckett being the average cold-hearten mento who warms up to the hero, to Qi'ra as the bland love interest, Dryden Vos as the bland bad guy who is just evil! The only exception, and that's a stretch, is Lando, although that's because of Glover, but still he's very one dimensional. The main plot is uneven, shifting from different motivation and plot thread haphazardly there is little to really care for. And no it's not because it's a prequel and we know that Han and Chewie and Lando will live. But because on top of being sloppy, the movie is so predictable. You can tell how the outcome will come when you see it. It really drains a lot of the fun and episodic feel the movie was aiming for, which to be fair with the action set-pieces and Powell's score adding some light fun here and there, but given how predictable and safe and no risk there is to alienate Star Wars fans, Solo is just a bland ride to sit through. There is some competence, but it is clear Disney made this film to cash in on the Star Wars fandom. Unless you are curious, skip this.

Sure, there is no Resistance or Empire here, but the happy Han Solo led Scooby-Doo gang and the Crimson Dawn organization feel pretty familiar nonetheless.

While this film might not do anything wrong which could apply to other films, it does have one specific sin: making the story of one of the most iconic characters of the Star Wars franchise not exciting. It is not boring; there are shoot-outs, gambling, weird-sounding aliens, but it is also not epic. And it should have been. This is Han Solo, who managed to make the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs, well if you "round it down". Yet the scene in which we see that, with the one in which he met his life-long pal Chewbacca or even the one in which he met Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) are watered down a bit.

The film focuses instead on an unnecessary love story between Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) and Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke). OK, maybe she is a known character in the enormous Star Wars lore, but I don't care about that. Their interactions are also somewhat awkward and lifeless. Director Ron Howard was given the chance to make an iconic prequel, and while he did not ruin it, he certainly killed the buzz a bit.

'Solo: A Star Wars Story' has a disadvantage to most films. While the brilliant technical elements and sci-fi action set pieces might have made justice to other characters, Han Solo and Chewbacca are simply to iconic for anything less than awesome.
