A reboot/sequel to a classic film that nobody was asking for. Ultimately it's a pretty damn fun ride. Great cast, Karen Gillan especially kills it.

The only critic I can find about this movie is its streamlined nature. But it's not like Stranger Things. The writers found a way to reboot Jumanji in a relatable and modern way where these streamlined ideas don't appear manufactured. This movie is a masterpiece for playing with cliches, tropes and stereotypes of video games, action movies and characters. It is entertaining and nearly all jokes work perfect. The cast is amazing. It is entertaining and nearly all jokes work perfect. The cast is amazing. They play characters inside other characters (avatars) that are their pure opposite from real life. Each one is believable at any moment and they develop within the story (Hero's journey). I can only praise the whole team for this movie. Everything fits perfect together. The tropes and stereotypes are parodied nearly perfect. Overall this was the most surprising movie I have seen this year and I have watched it again with my friends which agree with me in every point. Bonus: If you have the DVD with extras watch the alternative title song.… Expand

Solider Film. Ein paar Lacher hatte ich schon. Trotzdem hatte ich wenig Verbindung zum ersten Zeil bei diesem Film. Zum Sonntag schauen im FreeTV reicht mir der Film. Er ist nicht schlecht, jedoch auch weit weg von gut.

It was a real work of an artist this one. The art for comedy and nostalgia. I have to give credit for the genre tags and they got the movie accordingly done, very well indeed. The actors did very good delivering a character with a mindset that they did not match their or their character's personalities, and it was very fun to watch which made for a lot of laugh out loud moments and puns and pop culture references. The writing was genius and very creative with all it's options and still remaining family friendly. The directing was very good the music helped the entertainment aspect out a lot. But the visuals where really well done except for 2-3 shots in the whole movie which looked terrible. The plot was really great, and video game like, which all gave it an interesting vibe. Overall it's a very good movie and everything was done very good in terms of entertainment and fun. But given the fact that this is not a serious movie and there is no real message in the movie and some other missing elements of a legendary masterpiece movie. I liked this movie so much, it's unique and better than the first Jumanji, but Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle isn't a sequel, it stands on it's own.

Anyways, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is full of action sequences which were very good, very talented performances in the world of Jumanji, but in the real life, the performances were bad, and it takes to another thing I hated about this movie, I didn't see so much of Jumanji or lots of animals as I expected to see. The CGI of the animals wasn't that good anyway. The story is really good, I loved every sequence of this movie, it's like video game but a movie, I loved it! The sense of humor of this movie is really funny, I liked that , but Kevin Hart with Dwayne Johnson scene was so Central Intelligence, I didn't that, but I laughed though.

I liked Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle very much and I'm gonna give it a B+.

Pure disappointment. They tried to keep the Jonas Brother out of the promotion... I don't know how he managed to be in the movie. But he's even worse actor than singer. Just saying. Another Dwayne the rock johnson movie.

The modernization of Jumanji is brilliantly done and takes nice diverted route using the same basic premise. The casting is really where Jumanji shines. All 4 main 'avatars' are superbly cast and really lift the movie from average to very good.

Usually I am not into this type of film. However it turned out to be quite well made as far as this genre is concerned.

I like the concept that they picked a bunch of students in high school to be the characters who would roleplay the video game characters in Jumanji. It starts out fresh, and would draw appeal to high school teens especially.

There are a quite a few funny moments. A few really good ones. Others are kinda forced/cheesy, but acceptable if you know what to expect from this kind of film.

The characters in the film learnt along the difficult path to their goals, to bond and grow to become better people.

Overall this is an okay movie to watch for general entertainment. Just don't expect too much from this in terms of depth.… Expand

What impressed me the most is just how well the main cast captured the personalities of their younger costars. We don't get to spend much time with their high-school aged counterparts, but we see enough to know just who they are and understand just how well they nailed their portrayals of them. They seem to be having a lot of fun playing kids out of their depth. Particularly Jack Black who is the highlight of the movie. His character Bethany actually has a really touching character arc while everyone else gets the stereotypical feel good endings.


While it never manages to capture the thrill and excitement of watching wild animals tear through a living room like in the original Jumanji, thanks to some impressive action sequences there is plenty of adventure and spectacle to be found inside. It's also very funny. I got plenty of laughs watching these kids freak out over their new bodies and whatever dangers came their way. The gender swap Black's character is going through is used to deliver at least two of the movie's funniest moments. The plot kind of keeps getting in the way though. It's bogged down in too much generic "be brave and proud of who you are" moralizing and has plenty of outright painful moments where it tries to explain gamer lingo and modern day teenage lifestyles in an effort to come off as hip and knowledgeable. It just needed to focus on the jokes. The rest of that stuff would have come along the way. While it doesn't hold a candle to our time with Robin Williams in the first Jumanji, "Welcome to the Jungle" does provide a good time. Ultimately it was a little more disposable than I was hoping for, but I can't complain too much about the final results as I still ended up having quite a bit of fun with it. I have to say I loved how they managed to make sense of how Jumanji could be a board game in one movie and a video game in the next. It was surprisingly smoothly done. I also appreciate how they managed to bring back and update the 1995 film for a new generation without going the reboot route. 7.7/10… Expand

I've never hated all the characters in a film before this one. Wow.

They're so dumb. So vapid. So narcissistic.

It makes the movie worse than it could have been had the characters had any meaningfully redeemable qualities in them.

This film is a set of almost's. Its almost funny enough to get a laugh out more than a couple of times during the movie. Its almost fun enough to allow me to see it as a guilty pleasure. Its almost so bad that its good, but it never quite crosses that line into complete nonsense.

Other than that, it also manages to lack any of the charm and character that set the original as one of the better mid-90's blockbusters. For example, take the villains; think of how memorable Van Pelt was in the original Jumanji film; in contrast, is there anything the villain in this film does that is in any way memorable at all?!

I will award some credit for some of the funnier moments, and for the sheer inability of this film to take itself very seriously at all, which is 100% what this film should be doing more of - silly is not a bad thing, and neither necessarily is not asking anything of its audience; however the humour never quite lives up to itself to justify its own silliness. The action almost does, and if the ending had went out with a little more of a bang rather than a piffle, I would have possibly given more credit and rated this film a little higher. With a few differences, given the potential in the premise, this film could have been a lot of fun, but as it is its a bit of a disappointment, which is not ideal when potential expectations are low to begin with.… Expand

The film uses irreverent empty humour and pedestrian videogame tropes to tell its story through an entertaining yet shallow group of characters.

The two sets of casts fail to accurately imitate each others behaviour (mainly due to the uninspired character writing). Had a couple of chuckles watching it but overall this felt like it really borrows the name to sell a few tickets. If the film-makers were brave enough to break free from the jumanji trappings and expand the complexity of its characters and the 'videogame universe' to be less 2 dimensional, this could have been special, problem is you never really feel the tension of the situation these 'teenagers' find themselves in. If this were an original film concept, its entertaining enough to mark as a 6/10 but as it uses the name and does nothing to best the 1995 original it gets a 4.

Overall I consider this to be yet another shameless studio cash-grab.… Expand

When 4 very different teenagers end up in detention for some reason, to spend time they decide to play an old video game that was in the room, a different video game that actually puts them inside of the game, living the story living and being the characters that was choosed by them. One of the better things that the movie got, is how different her characters and their abilities are from they real selves, like they are forced to learn and to experience things from a different perspective.
The movie tries to simulate a video-game in every aspect, and i can say that they are kind of successfully with it, how they impersonate npc's, in an old way but it is fun how they keep repeating what they say until someone do something, and how every character have skills and weakness, how one is needed to complete certain section of the game and they are necessary dependent from the others, like only one can read the map and know where to go and other that can carry stuff for example, did liked to how they had limited lifes, and giving a urgency sense that if they die in the game, they would also die in the real life.
The acting is very good, The Rock did a great job interpreting a introverted nerd, with his insecurity and look, you could really imagine that he was that teenager, Dwayne also have a pretty good comic time. Kevin Hart is surely the funnier one here, in the matter of playing the same character that we did saw before he isn't that good, he does pretty much himself most of the time, but it did worked a lot, he really gonna make you laugh a bunch of times with his way of speak and his time, his character is the weakest and only work for support and Kevin work with it in a great way. Jack Black plays a girl that is very hot and she knows that, that put a bunch of boys in her feet, post a lot on instagram to get likes, she thinks that she is the owner of the world, this kind of girl, the way that he did it is simply great, Jack Black being a party girl is hilarious, the way that he talks and act like her are all gorgeous, the development during the movie also was very good the way that he hold. Finally Karen Gillan, her character was also a introverted girl that didn't like much people, neither to talk to anyone, i loved how she portrayed her, and how embarrassed she was, in some moments it's needed she to use her prettiness to achieve something, considering that her character is shy, she did a fun and very well done job.
I like that the movie have a precept that we only have one life to spend, and we gotta do and be what we want, without being scared or afraid, the question is how you gonna live. This is quoted a few times, but it worked for me, i liked.
It is very superficial and very repetitive. Thoose stereotypes that a nerd is always a guy that can't talk, don't have friends and does not fit, or that the football dude is a guy that don't talk with other people that aren't to cool for him, doesn't please me, i believe that it isn't the time for those things anymore.
I could say that the movie have very bad CGI, but if you consider that it emulates a video game it makes completely sense, could also say that the story is bad and simply in a tremendous way(wich could make us bored), but a lot of video games are like that to, with simply villains and simply dialogues, considering that the game turns in the 90's. The movie works because it doesn't took itself seriously, and critic a bunch of things and nothing offends. But it is a fun movie that you possibly gonna laugh and have a fun time.… Expand

All four of the principal characters are stereotypes of personalities one can encounter among high school kids, and it was an interesting idea for each of them, once sucked into the game, to be stuck in a body drastically different from the bodies in which they had grown up. Dwayne Johnson attempted to play the role of a scrawny geek suddenly endowed with an immense, powerful physique; but his acting chops were not sufficient to pull it off. (Johnson, in every movie of his I have seen, basically plays himself.) So the movie was by no means great art, but it was lots of fast-paced improbable fun.… Expand

Performances from all of the cast were pretty good, not amazing, but still all right, and the overall story was good. Great combination of action, sense of adventure and humor, however, is mainly aimed at teens, and really no one else. You could wait for this to come out later in the year on DVD or other forms but would be a good movie to go and watch in the cinema. It is hard for the audience to see a character development within the teenagers, but rather Black, Hart, Johnson, and Gillan in the actual Jumanji. With all of this said, it was a good movie and could have been a lot worse… Expand

Pretty entertaining movie. I had no real expectations going into this but i enjoyed the film. Surprise family hit. Even Sony was surprised that Jumanji is a smash at $822mil world-wide as I speak. I have to mention that even though I saw the screener several months before it came out, I was surprised that I actually liked better theSurprise family hit. I have to mention that even though I saw the screener several months before it came out, I was surprised that I actually liked better the second time around. Regardless of missing some effects, music, etc. it was still the same story and acting...although the ending was slightly different. Basically highschool teenagers that don't get along discover themselves and each other after getting sucked into the experience of the Jumanji video game world. You can do this with any indifferent highschoolers-don't-get-along story and put them on a fantastic quest to discover themselves. It's cliche but it's mostly well done and enjoyable. I have to congratulate Sony because even though the screener was "incomplete" and initially felt like a below average "cliche" video game avatar movie...the final product was a milestone improvement in comparison. The beat, cuts, timing felt better, even the humor felt enhanced, the acting felt more believable even though it wasn't their best performance I've seen out of any of them. All the pieces were put together nicely although not perfect. But you don't need perfect with a Rock movie. You just need fun, action and enjoyable story and then go eat popcorn and get entertained. LOL The "cliche" being sucked into video game world ended up being an afterthought. It was an enjoyable movie overall...especially if you go with your family. My 6 and 7 year old really enjoyed it and their favorite characters were Jack Black and Kevin Hart. When you have likeable and memorable characters then in my opinion half the battle is already done. I wasn't frustrated with any actor/actress, the story, the plot, etc. I love Transformers but Jumanji 2 was better than the The Last Knight movie. I love Jurassic Park but Jumanji was an overall better movie than Jurassic World. All CG and FX aside. It's not going to win an Oscar by any means but that's what Dunkirk and Pixar movies are for. This is a fun family movie and a good excuse to go out with the kids. Hope you enjoy it!… Expand

It simply doesn't even flick a booger in the direction of the original. . .but it's still watchable. Yes, even I'll admit - though I wasn't looking forward to this flick at all (and although I still ended up not even liking it that much) it ended up containing a bit more competency than I was expecting. The video-game-isms are entertaining, the lead performances are definitely stimulating, and even though there are still some glaring, fundamental issues with it, "Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle" is still somehow worth the watch.… Expand

Needless to say, I was thoroughly impressed! The film was more of a spiritual successor then an actually sequel, and it was not just funny but a well-structured movie. For someone like myself that has played video games all my life, it was a real treat with all of the game jokes. All of the actors did a great job making this film work, with Jack Black really standing out. Every scene he was in brought a smile or laughter from me. If you are a Jumanji purest and want to see a movie similar to the original, you will be probably walk away disappointed. If you throw out preconceived notions and just want a fun & entertaining film, then this is an overall good family film to see. (Slight cursing from Kevin Heart)… Expand

This film is very sharply written and directed and features 4 very strong central comedic performances. Far better than the lackluster trailers would have suggested. This is kinda awkward isn't it. When you anticipate failure, but got something different. Those trailers didn't do any justice for this.

'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' aims to entertain families and succeeds just on that. Was it great? NOPE. Was it terrible? Not really. I enjoyed the film is basically what am trying to say.

It's got flaws - The storytelling is really generic and you can pin point how scenes are gonna turn out. It never gets intense during the urgent moments. The villain is so forgettable that I can't even remember his name. Which is a shame because Bobby Cannavale is a great character actor and I've seen him do incredible stuff, however his talent is put to waste here.

Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart all had really great chemistry. The back and forward humor between them made for some enjoyable scenes. Some jokes are hit or miss for me, however, the jokes that miss are nothing embarrassing like some family films.

I liked how against the character tropes you would expect to see from these actors, a part from Kevin Hart and I will explain why after this. Dwayne plays a wimp. Gillian plays a socially awkward teen. Jack Black plays a 16 year old girl stuck in an overweight middle aged man's body. Makes it more funny and not too formula. Kevin Hart plays and acts like he dose in every other movie. You can see a character there, just not to it's full potential.

Jack Black steals the show, in my opinion.

Overall rating: If you want a simple pop flick with fun action and solid entertainment, then this ticks all the boxes. It is was it is. Self aware at best.… Expand

What a fun story, joyful film, every character in this film was great. But I don't feel if this movie is a Jumanji.

Never thought I would say this since the fact that when I read the announcement and saw the cast for the film, I thought it was gonna be crap! And then I saw the Trailer and the title of the film and thought " Aw *** here we go anotherNever thought I would say this since the fact that when I read the announcement and saw the cast for the film, I thought it was gonna be crap! And then I saw the Trailer and the title of the film and thought " Aw *** here we go another Ragnarok and Justice League 80's song pointless title" Then a friend of mine dragged me to see it and I was very pleasantly surprised! "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" Is a very entertaining film! I really enjoyed the teen humor, the character arcs and the overall goofiness to the film. Also enjoyed that despite lurking in the shadows of the original it manages to be a good sequel but do it's own thing! although, Robin Williams is sadly missed...… Expand

Jumanji was a fun film although predictable. The on screen presence of Dwayne Johnson was amazing as usual and the chemistry with Kevin Hart kept the laughs comings. A delightfully fun movie. By no means a great movie, but a very funny, good for the whole family kind of movie. I think that it can be greatly enjoyed by both kids and adults.

Doesn't want to be more, just a good 1 time film, which is funny, and is great fin in a cinema.
It does its job good.

Its not a great film, but it was great for a 1 night fun :)

Jack Black and Nick Jonas in a weirdly plotted love story or Kevin Hart suddenly blinking repetitively as someone has to step forward for a staring contest. These are the little moments where Jumanji sweeps away its best score with the help of smart writing which focuses mainly on these characters or sometimes actors contradict nature. But unfortunately it fails on story telling with the same old characters and their seen-this-seen-that conflicts.… Expand
