A good movie that would be great if it isn't fail in its premise, specially in the construction of the antagonist (despite of the labor of the performers).

It fits in the MCU, but the directing and camerawork build the distinct comic book-y, classic horror-inspired, darkly humorous tone that could only come from Raimi. Like his original superhero Darkman (1990) and the Spider-Man trilogy, this film actually feels like a nutty, fast-paced comic book adventure. Got me reading the original Doctor Strange stories from Steve Ditko/Stan Lee in the '60s! It's clear that Raimi and screenwriter Michael Waldron (Rick & Morty, Loki) are passionate about the character and had fun with the possibilities of the multiverse. There were just enough easter eggs and references to other Marvel properties to whet franchise fans' appetites. Make no mistake, however; they were used at just the right times and with appropriate brevity. Multiverse of Madness still felt like a Doctor Strange solo outing, all crossover madness aside. All in all, I will definitely catch this again in IMAX before the week is done. Can't wait to buy the blu ray and add it to my Raimi home media collection! Expand

Es buena. El toque de suspenso que aporta Sam es muy bueno, talvez la trama puedo estar más desarollada; sin embargo, es muy buena y diferente a lo que tiene marvel en su repertorio. Efectos como personajes muy buenos.

The movie starts off at a good pace. Accelerating towards the end, it makes a pointless finale. A mid-range blockbuster with wasted potential.

The entire plot of the movie is terrible, lackluster and has nothing to do with the rest of the MCU. The new character: America Chavez, is totally the worst part of the movie as she is a waste of thought and talent that adds nothing to the story.

God, rarely have I found myself so bored at the theater.

For a film franchise that has sometimes been criticized for feeling more like television, never has a Marvel film felt it to this degree before. The whole thing feels like a middling episode of a Sci-Fi Channel Original Series with just exposition piled upon exposition piled on exposition. There is little here resembling any kind of emotional storytelling or humanity, just borderline incomprehensible plot threads to set up other Marvel movies. If you like soy banter instead of anything resembling character development then this is the movie for you.

If you were hoping that Sam Raimi, arguably the best filmmaker to ever work in this franchise, could bring his identity to the Marvel machine, I regret to inform you that the scoreboard reads “Disney 1, Raimi 0”. Sure, there’s some of Raimi’s dutch angles and signature dolly zooms here to remind you he’s still involved but that’s about where it ends. (Ok, actually there is one very funny Bruce Campbell cameo, the only genuine laugh in the film)

Even the much teased Marvel cameos, that now seem like the new direction for this franchise, completely fall flat as it serves little purpose beyond waving a bright shiny new toy in front of your face.

Somehow even worse than I thought it’d be, terrible start to summer movie season

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was a visual spectacular, one of the coolest and most interesting movies I've ever seen especially visually. Sam Raimi's direction was outstanding, I loved the incorporation of horror elements. The writing was phenomenal especially the character development with Wanda and Stephen. The visual effects were remarkable, just ever minute of the movie they were amazing and one scene that really stuck out to me was when America and Stephen were traveling fastly through the Multiverse. The performances were exceptional especially from Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Xochitl Gomez, and Rachel McAdams. The music was superb, I loved the different styles of music used. The makeup and hairstyling was excellent especially on Benedict Cumberbatch (specifically zombified him) and Elizabeth Olsen. The costumes were terrific especially ones wore by Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen. This was an A+ movie and my favorite movie of 2022 so far. Expand

Raimi hasn't made a movie in a long time, and I think it shows... and I think the story also made very corrosive choices. Don't get me started on the dark strange battle - and the final end-credit scene (which I'm sure is Raimi's thumbing his nose at Marvel and Disney... but more importantly it showed how little respect he had for us the viewers). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's been a while since I've had mixed feelings with Marvel movie.

The action was well done, CGI looked believable and Doctor Strange himself was still to my liking.

The horror aspect was a poor choice to me. For a franchise that has been appealing to mainstream and approachable to all this will definitely impact how many people want to watch it.

However, the bigger problems for me were elsewhere. Pacing of the film felt weird but it's hard for me to describe why. The multiverse was also seemingly full of plotholes and oddities that were annoying. How some of the characters were treated was also bad choice in my opinion.

And here comes the spoilery part of the review in case you accidentally opened this review. I don't know is the success of MCU Infinity Saga and a greed resulted by that or is it just trying to appeal to the most HC Marvel fans but there have been way too many cameos lately. Be it the X-mens, Daredevils, Kingpins or Venoms the urgent need to make every Marvel related movie or series ever created relevant to the MCU is a bad choice that makes the already excessive "list of movies and series to watch before seeing this Marvel movie" even more ridiculous. Here the cameos were also mostly brought in to be killed off nearly instantly and it felt poorly executed.

All in all the movie left me surprisingly cold even through I have loved MCU and Doctor Strange before. Because of the horror aspects I don't think I ever want to see it again even though I didn't actually hate the movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It isn’t good. The writing and CGI are atrocious. The CGI looks like it was ripped straight from a video game. The characters are all morons without a shred of personality + life to them. The story is hard to follow as well. The film doesn’t utilize the multiverse to its fullest potential, which is unfortunate. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Invincible, and Everything Everywhere All At Once are the movies and comics that all use the multiverse closer to its fullest potential. Doctor Strange 2 sips from the fountain of the multiverse while the others gulp a big glass of it. I don’t recommend Doctor Strange 2. Extra: Black Bolt was too eager to speak (he hates doing so) and his design did not translate well to live action. I didn’t like Captain Marvel speaking for him, either. Medusa, his queen, is the one who does that. Expand

Pundits and die hard fans were clearly expecting an allusion to popular Marvel Comics series such as the House of M and clearly the time when various other 'studio licensed' properties finally joined the MCU. But so far, they have been disappointed. Clearly that without the Pandemic, we would have reached that pinnacle by now. Here, clearly Marvel is 'clearing up their' backlog first; films that were supposed to be released in 2020 /2021 slate but delayed due to Covid. It culminates in this film, which rumor has it was rewritten to fit in certain 'newly added' plot points in the Disney+ series. However, what made this project shine through is the commitment of of both Cumberbatch and Olsen, who clearly are 'game' to what Marvel is doing and give it their all. As such, this flick may feel disjointed but at just 2 hours time, its pacing issues is not as prevalent. But sometimes I wonder, if it went through as planned before Covid, we may have one of the top tier Marvel films out there. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here's how absurd the plot of this movie is. Wanda is so desperate to find her kids that she knows she never had to begin with, that she's willing to kill and steal the powers of a teenager that can punch star-shaped holes in the fabric of reality, so she can find her kids and take her alternate reality version's place as their mother.

So, why not work with America to help her control her powers first and then find a reality where Wanda had died and the boys were orphans and then offer to either take over as their mother there or bring them to our universe and take care of them here?

"Oh, but she's distraught and using an evil book!" She was in control of herself for some time before the movie started, but now the movie started, so hur-dur, let's make her the villain. Also, dear lord, they turned Wanda into an unstoppable killing machine beyond anything and everything that has come before. Nothing could stop her, and this movie goes beyond to hammer home how powerful she was. The entirety of Kamar-Taj: Dead
Wong Sorcerer Supreme: Beaten like it was nothing
Captain Marvel: Dead
Captain Cartner: Dead
Black Bolt: Dead (by killing himself, lol)
Jim from the Office cosplaying as Mister Fantastic: Dead
Professor X from the 90's cartoon: Dead and went out like a ****

And then there's Doctor Strange, whose power is either very strong or completely worthless and Marvel is banking on the viewer just turning off your brain the right amount to ignore these easily noticed things.

This movie should have been named "Doctor Strange and The Jumping of the Shark" because it was. Whatever you loved about the MCU is gone now. All the worldwide risk and danger we lived through in the last decade or so--Pointless. The scale they just brought the threats to have made everything that came before trivial. Even Moon Knight with literal gods fighting each other is pointless. This was the movie that broke on the MCU. I am done with them. The direction they are taking is just not my thing, and I'm not sticking around for it.

P.S: Hey, so now that Wanda yeeted herself at the end, what happens with Vision, hmm? Did y'all forget there's a version of him that survived at the end of Wandavsion? Any reason for that to move on with?

The second installment in the “Doctor Strange”While I don’t completely agree with Martin Scorsese’s contention that Marvel movies aren’t cinema, the studios’ latest offering could arguably add fuel to the fire supporting that viewpoint. The second installment in the “Doctor Strange” series is, quite honestly, a hot mess in so many regards, a major disappointment from its predecessor and a movie in which it’s easy to lose interest. With a storyline that requires viewers to possess considerable foreknowledge of the characters and numerous narrative elements, a number of plot elements that go unresolved, and the inclusion of developments that grow progressively sillier with each passing frame, director Sam Raimi’s latest becomes increasingly boring, ridiculous and disjointed the further one gets into it. What I find most insulting, however, is the shameless way this offering has been employed more as a jumping off point for other upcoming vehicles in the Marvel Universe than as a standalone work of its own, a lynchpin in the perpetuation of this continuing body of work that amounts to little more than a vehicle for promoting future Marvel moviegoing experiences. Despite the film’s fine cinematography and art direction and a few choice moments of comic relief, I gave up on this one without a half hour left. Except for diehard comic book nerds, who will undoubtedly love this no matter what, most other viewers could save themselves a lot of time and tedium by not waiting as long as I did to bail by just skipping this one entirely. In this case this character is America Chavez. A Mexican American girl ( who speaks a horrible spanish, I'm mexican and I could barely understand her jokes in spanish ) And they've mixed Mexico and America in one Character called America Chavez, if it wasnt enough she has a star like captain America in her very MURICAN Jacket, and she literally opens interdimensional portals but she is not in control. Let me see where I've seen this before, OH right With Ciri in the witcher Series. The effects are also very similar to Ciri's powers in the Witcher 3 game. And America Chavez is also being hunted for the same Reason as ciri in the witcher series. They are both hunted by a villain to use her teleportation abilities. America is tramuatized by her two (supposedly mexican mothers) who speak again a very broken cringy spanish. She is just shown in a plant world with no civilization in another universe. but somehow a bee happens to land on her hand and she gets scared and teleports her 2 mothers into some other universe. Literally anywhere in the universe. Of course if you choose a randome point you would probably end up in the middle of empty space and die instantly. She had also been living with her mothers for at least 15-18 years. You would think that she would have gotten scared of something else in her life and opened a portal before or something, but no, bee, portal, parents gone. Thats your background for one of the central characters. moving on. They go to a very utopic universe New York where the most that they could come up with was a Normal New York with contemporary looking buildings with some roof gardens and a waterfall from the empire state, imagine the amount of water pumps and the energy required to run that. (there is actually a building in china with a waterfall that rarely gets used because of how much power it requires) And the only other difference is that streetlights are switched so you go on red. The scarlett witch goes crazy and wants to find the girl no matter what and persues the main characters to the avengers that are actually the illuminati ( wow how imaginative ) and is conformed by several old known characters and some very stereotypical new ones. which are practically the same as the original ones but opposite. So Instead of Captain America, its Captain Great Britain and she is a woman! oh wow. Then Captain Marvel stays female but is now black! wow how do they come up with these things, and finally the only original character who is mute because if he talks he destroys everything. So I suppose they wanted to include there people who speak sign language which is okeish. Scarlett Witch arrives and kills them all in a very very similar scene as the first episode of the "Invincible" Cartoon series. Later Strange fights his evil twin from another universe using only magical notes for some reason, The Sound editing and music recording at that scene is kind of interesting, but really they fight using musical notes only, and throw them at each other.

In summary it is a horrendous movie, it falls into every single kind of clichés possible. Nothing makes sense there seems to be no linearity with the rest of marvel, and at this point its just printing money for disney with more bland content. I recommend not going to any marvel movies until they actually start putting some effort into them.

The movie felt as though it could not decide on it's tone and by no means felt like a sequel to the first Doctor Strange movie tonal wise. Wanda's motivation is written off as just "The Darkhold" and feels cheap after spending nearly 10 years with the character. For a movie that was supposed to have such emotional weight I unfortunately did not feel much. As for the positives the visuals and action pieces were fun. Expand

So II enjoyed the first Doctor Strange film even though it followed the same format of superhero origin stories. The exploration of the magic side was just an interesting aspect of the universe and I just love how they portrayed it visually. So I was gutted when the director of the original, Scott Derrickson, left the project. However, it was then revealed that legendary director Sam Raimi, director of the Evil Dead and Spider-Man trilogy, would direct it and I was super excited again. So does it deliver a multiverse of fun or is it a multiverse of dullness?

Firstly, this is definitely a Sam Raimi movie. All the usual flairs that you would expect from him are completely in here and I love it. The stylistic way he shoots a scene, the way he portrays New York feels like what he did in Spider-Man, the slight goofiness, the horror elements and jump scares are all here. There are some great visuals during the magic sequence and multiverse stuff. There are also some horrific scenes that genuinely surprised me as it felt too gruesome for a PG 13 movie. It's a Sam Raimi film through and through and his direction elevates this movie to new heights. There are also some great action set pieces that were very creative and a blast to watch. The music is composed by Danny Elfman and he does a great job. There is a fun action sequence with the use of music and Danny does a great job with the music score to illustrate that battle. The actors are also all doing a great job. Benedict Cumberbatch is still the perfect Doctor Strange and delivers on every scene. I also love how he portrays the other Doctor Strange variants from other universes. Benedict Wong is great and his chemistry with the other Benedict is still fun to watch. Rachel McAdams returns as Christine but unlike the first film she has more to do this time and I appreciate that since she is wonderful in the role. Xochitl Gomez is good as America Chavez and I like her interaction with Doctor Strange. The other supporting cast does a good job as well even with their small screen time. The biggest standout is Elisabeth Olsen as Wanda. She does a phenomenal job in her performance. I just love how she did in every scene from the emotional to the scary. She is the core of this film.

However, Doctor Strange is not the primary focus and has to share screen time with both Wanda and Chavez. Unfortunately, the characterization is lacking which makes them all feel one dimensional. The pacing slows down around the second act due to a lot of walking and talking. The ending is very Sam Raimi but the impact of it is lessened because of the mid credit scene.

Overall, I am thrilled by the return of Sam Raimi to the superhero genre. While the screenplay lets the movie down a bit, Sam Raimi was still able to make this movie feel unique. It's clear that the MCU didn't restrain Sam's wackiness and I am glad about that. Thanks to his amazing direction and the terrific performance from the cast, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ends up being extremely fun to watch.

Just another generic marvel popcorn flick that puts fan service as a number one priority because Marvel knows that the MCU Stan’s will jerk off to it. Cameos are pointless as they just serve as a tool for the antagonist to kill off; how very thoughtful Marvel. People giving this movie a 9 or a 10 are without a doubt the people who think that the MCU is some type of holy grail. Only thing keeping this incoherent slog afloat is Olsen’s performance. Visually atrocious with once again mid VFX. Don’t waste your time watching this mess. Expand

Enough that it truly shocked my wife and I. The plot jumped so much that it was hard to invest any emotion into the story and characters after all that we already knew about them. It was obvious they thought new hero Amerika Chavez would carry the movie and take the mantle, but this was not so. She came off as more of a bratty teenager who barely even seemed to belong in this universe until the very end. Long time comic fans will not buy into her forced sense of inclusion. A new team is introduce, and basically discarded shortly after they are introduced. Why do that? Didn't even try to build on any of their characters. Also, this movie presented a great opportunity to introduce a new super villain. Sadly, there wasn't one. The entire movie just seemed very cardboard cutout -ish, and lacked the polish we've come to expect from Marvel and Disney movies. It seemed rushed and thrown together with the simple goal of being a quick cash grab. Definitely a step backwards in my view. Expand

Made an account just so you all know this

I LOVED original Dr strange (right below Cpt America-not including the Avengers movies). Why? Because they told the story for what they were. No woke. No agenda behind the story. Just a great story for what they were (until later were they actually did started to do all this). Anyhow, this movie was....well a bit meh. Really I should give it a 5, but some of the cinematography, music, and SOME of the cgi was good. So, extra point. But, that's where it stops. The acting, besides Dr strange and Scarlett, was just overacted and kinda tropey. Did I mention woke? Yep, now it's not in the background-it part of the story. When this is introduced, I literally hear people in the audience either laugh (as well as I did along a "u gotta be kidding me"), snicker, or comment "of course." Does Disney not get it? Yes. We ALL know you're "woke," but does it always have to be a point of contention in movies now? Cam we just have great storytelling (and acting) without this being a thing. Did I mention? Woke. The males (including Strange) are either dumb, underpowered, or have little to no use. Girl power? GIRL POWER ALL THE WAY.....so sick of it. All the girls are apparently the strongest in the whole movie. Gotta be kidding me.... ALMOST FORGOT....plot holes KILL any sense of urgency. Shame. just wait for it until D+ streams it. Maybe then it will be worth it. So sad. I should know better than to expect anything else from disney messing with stories for agenda's sake.

Michael Bay like endless action and explosion with terribly written and executed Raimi evil dead humor injected. If anyone thought the b movie schlock constituted horror elements they must be incredibly delicate. I actually think Bay would have made this better because the dumb bits would just be more mind numbing explosions, that would be less offensive. The character's never stay in one place long enough to tell a story, they just spout nonsense and the next action scene happens. We sit for 2hours and don't even get a satisfying ending, just another wet fart in a movie full of them.

I don't think I'll be seeing another Dr. Strange or Raimi directed MCU movie after this.

Kudos for making Captain Marvel even more annoying than Brie Lawson's. I didn't think that was possible. Good news is she gets killed, lol. All hail the Scarlet Witch! She's my new favorite Marvel superhero. So 0 for the Dr. Strange movie, but it's balanced by an 8 for the Scarlet Witch movie.

Rest of the movie was lame. I still don't know who the Hispanic chick is and why is she named America? Or who Rachel McAdams was playing.

It's a good Sam Raimi movie, with Horror like Moon Knight but it doesn't fell like a Doctor Strange Movie. Also the Title "Multiverse of Madness" is wrong. This Movie is a sequel to WandaVision, that's all. The characters travel just a few times in the Multiverse and that is not even the plot. The Plot is "Wanda has to let go his Kids". And the movie doesn't have a end. Yeah it's MCU but Doctor Strange 2 isn't really a Movie. It's a "trailer" for the future projects. You should watch the Movie on Disney plus, sorry. Expand

I didn't have that reaction watching this. I went in not expecting anything and felt like I got the closest thing to a horror movie Disney will ever make. There are some parallels to director Sam Raimi's earlier films with books being at the center of the story. However, they ultimately they come off as little more than macguffins used to drive the plot to develop deeper ideas surrounding loss. Because of the theme of loss there is a lot of character development for Strange and his supporting cast, but Olson's performance as Scarlet Witch really takes center stage for me. The visuals were spectacular and the music, by Danny Elfman, worked very well for its more macabre art design. The only thing that I'd say is this is not for most younger kids. If you wouldn't let them watch a classic slasher flick then this will have moments that are too scary for them. Expand

The sequel to Doctor Strange is the great and most distinctive film of the MCU universe. It's a purely comic book movie that isn't taken seriously, and Sam Raimi has done an incredibly grotesque job here - and in my eyes, that's the only reason why the movie works so well. Without him, it would be an ordinary soulless Marvel projection. The film is not taken seriously, a hidden gem of comic book movies just like Thor Ragnarok. The work with the effects, the camera and the playfulness of the whole film is unbelievable. This is a film by Sam Raimi. And it's just your fault that you got carried away by speculation from the internet and you believed every nonsense about the film. I went to the movie with a clear head, I didn't watch the trailers, I didn't take the speculation seriously and I LOVE IT. You know, I'm sorry the movie crashes because of your mistake. It's a great film and I believe that one day it will receive a much better reception. One of the most original and fun MCU movie. The only downside is for me the misunderstanding to remove more than 40min. of the film. The beginning of the film suffers a lot from the editing. For Sam Raimi's fan 9/10. For the average viewer 7.7 / 10 just because of the editing situation. Expand

The movie avoids overwhelming the audience by only diving so deep into the Multiverse. It straddles a fine line between horror and a regular action flick and keeps the best features of both. The decisions made with Wanda are a little jarring at first but make for a less predictable movie in the long run.

I find a lot of reviews irritating and not understandable.

People blame this movie for the high expectations they had.
Every movie should reach the expectations of the viewer, but in this case the expectations where simply unrealistic.

No MCU movie has faced such high expectations, not even No way home or Endgame.
This is the fault of the promotion.

All fans knew that old characters would appear in no way home. This was the big selling point. Multiverse of Madness promised us the Multiverse.
A Multiverse gives endless opportunities thanks to the comics.
So we all speculated into the impossible.
We wanted that all our dreams come true.

The trailers should have settled our expectations but they did the opposite.

Wrong promotion shouldn't be part of a review.
Only the movie matters.

The movie has undeniable weaknesses but it also got a lot of strong parts.

Never was a MCU movie so brave and refreshing.
Sam Raimi's new ideas and his style is very present, when we start our journey through the Multiverse.
I hope that more Marvel movies will try new genres and ideas. The little horror elements where fitting.
The camara is more alive than in any other MCU movie. The camara style is horror influenced and you can see the similarities to other Sam Raimi movies.
The actors are great as always and I liked America Chavez.
She was very comic accurate.
I also liked the cameos. The weren't necessary but cool for fans.

Some dialogues and moments where strange and awkward like in every Sam Raimi movie.
For me as Sam Raimi fan this wasn't something distracting, but I know a few people wich didn't like this kinda stuff.
There is also to much exposition, which wasn't important for the story.
Also the beginning of the movie has problems with the pacing.
I think the story had to be rewritten because of release changes.
Sometimes the VFX are really great and topnotch, but sometimes the VFX feels unfinished.
Marvel should have take more time for that.

I really liked the movie and it is one of the best MCU movies in my opinion besides the negative points.
The movie was really refreshing.
When you watch the movie with realistic expectations you will be blown away.

A must see for every marvel and Raimi fan.

bu film diğer marvel filmleri gibi değil.Farklı bir havası var ve çok güzel.Evrenden evrene geçiş sahneleri falan iyiydi diğer film daha iyi olacak hissediyorum.

Definitely the closest to R in the entire MCU and maybe the closest to R PG-13 movie ever. All that said, loved it. In my top 10 of MCU films. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mainly light spoilers for Dr Strange (ie nothing you wouldn’t see in the trailers). With some minor plot spoilers dashed in. But these spoiler are okay for non-marvel fans or less hardcore marvel fans, but any hardcore marvel fans please don’t read until you’ve seen the film. Don’t worry, this review isn’t going anywhere - it will be here when you come back Expand

Still trying to wrap my head around this one for better or worse. Directed by Sam Raimi (director of the original Spider-Man trilogy of all people), Dr. Steven Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) find himself thrust into the multiverse as he tries to protect a young multiverse jumper (Xochitl Gomez) from a possessed and deranged Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) whose Scarlet Witch persona has taken over her mind. Just when you thought things couldn't get much tripier than the first Doctor Strange film, along comes this one to throw everything that film had to offer, along with the rest of the MCU as a whole into complete disarray. This film is quite a mess, and not exactly a good one either sadly. While it surprisingly didn't overindulge on fan service too much with the exception of a very particular sequence towards the middle of the film that is sure to please several eager fans holding out hope for certain cameos, the story itself is still so scattershot and all over the place from start to finish that it becomes almost headache-inducing to follow. There's very little in the way of character/story development here as well. Furthermore, this is EASILY what I'd consider to be both the darkest and even most violent MCU film to date, with several uncalled for brutal and violent deaths that left me with a very bad taste in my mouth, as well as several frightening/jump scare moments straight out of a horror film, which makes sense considering this is Raimi we're talking about here. He's come a long way from his 'Evil Dead' films, but nonetheless manages to incorporate their atmosphere and style into this, but it just doesn't seem to fit or vibe well with a Marvel superhero film in my opinion. Performance-wise Cumberbatch of course once again nails the role he was born to play here, and even Elizabeth Olsen is in top form and creepy as hell here. Several of her scenes in particular are sure to serve as nightmare fuel for several people! Newcomer Gomez also turns in a great performance here, and returning cast members from the first film, such as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, and Rachel McAdams are also great! Unfortunately, none of them really helped me enjoy this cluster of a film much more. Overall, it's not particularly inspired, and the story/concept is a mess, but it still nonetheless gives an interesting idea of what direction things might go in the MCU from here when all's said and done. Whether that direction is good or bad is beyond me though, and I still consider this a rare misstep within the MCU. It left me feeling exasperated moreso than exhilarated by the end of it. Expand

It only avoids ZERO because of the special effects and nostalgia. This movie is plain and simple political propaganda, in a Cold War that resembles the 80’s, thus the nostalgia. Avoid it at all costs.

While these movies are formulaic, I love that they let artistic directors provide their personal spin to these characters’ stories. Sam Raimi’s horror notes make this film feel both familiar and edgy. Yes it is corny and cheesy, but there are deep underlying themes of dealing with grief and learning to be happy, no matter your circumstance/accomplishments. And it doesn’t take itself too seriously, leaning into certain tropes with jokes and other dramatics. While this obviously isn’t an Oscar contending film, I loved it and was thoroughly entertained.

It is defiantly a movie for the fans. My favorite part was the talk about "incursions" but unless you have read the comics you will not realize the weight this carried. Same with America C's introduction and the Illuminati. If you were not aware of what they represent before the movie you aren't getting the full story. So I'm not surprised that scores are all over the place. Expand
