This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 1st one was a masterpiece this was not even close, The core laughter that was 1st one with fresh situations and jokes felt missing in this although some jokes were good but the overall movie was decent, The story and the journey of borat felt complete towards the end, the tutars addition was good her expressions and the acting of all were damn brilliant, the starting intro to borat after 14 years were he publish the movie "that was really 1st movie" which demeans the nation and he was responsible and everyones reaction to him was hilarious then borats duty to changed the view about nation and the going back to america to deliver gift than for a surprise borat's daughter tutar's entry in gift pack in place of monkey her whole journey with borat, the whole antifeminsit thing by borat about tutar the cage thing and book stuff and the disney fairytale adult version it was darkly funny and then the transformation of her, the mobile store p*rn scene and fax scene was hilarious and the cake scene and doctor meet was brilliantly funny and then the breast surgery thing while tutar getting to know the real world it was great although the way her speech and bathroom thing was it was literally "WTF" then the final act of c19 spread and borat stuck with 2 guys hating obama the whole house sequence was fine and then concert and song it was hilarious and the tutar being journalist her interview at last giving her father what he wish and borat's change of mind it was good and the ending with back to kazak the whole c19 twist it was surprising and the ending with kazak being feminist and both tutar and borat reporting the game it was a nice end. Overall it was decent movie but not even near to 1st. Expand

However, this long-awaited sequel has its moments of inspired comedic tastelessness that make the picture something of a modest guilty pleasure, the kind of picture you watch in private, under the covers in your bedroom, lit up by the glow of your portable video device. Some of the novelty is gone now that audiences know the formula that makes the production work, and the audacity that fueled its predecessor somehow doesn't seem quite as comically appalling in an age where we have pervasive social media posts whose sentiments are even more vile than the content presented here. But, when Sacha Baron Cohen and company hit on an inventive gag that works, it really works, in some cases generating laughs even heartier than those that came out of the first film. The biggest gem here is the addition of Maria Bakalova as the protagonist's daughter, who provides some much-needed oomph to the overall tone of the film, delivering a hilarious performance deserving of all the accolades and award nominations she has received. Still, given the state of culture and society these days, it may be time to put the Borat franchise to rest; we don't need any more fuel splashed on the fire, no matter how well-intentioned it might be as biting political commentary -- we have enough of that already, and it's not very funny any more. WHAT right do you have making fun of people's ethnicity, national origin and culture? I hope this movie will be banned, or at least there will be an apology for the harmful effect this movie has on people from Kazakhstan, and the fact that this movie insults an entire country. So creators of this movie think that people from other countries should be proud from where they are from, but somehow it is acceptable to put this fake, insulting, distorted image of Kazakhstan and laugh at an entire country and its people and present them in this movie in this way. Sure,I struggled through Borat Subsequent Moviefilm not because it is as wild and ridiculous as the first part but because there's just too much that Sacha Baron Cohen stuffs into it, which made my viewing experience slightly unpleasant. Sure, there are LOL moments and absurd dialogues that make the film what it is, but after a while, the jokes aren't funny (not in a bad way, though). The critique on the Trump administration is spot-on, so maybe this is more targeted towards Americans. However, I have to admit that this sequel is more adventurous, mischievous, and courageous than the first part, which is all that matters sometimes. Grade C-. Expand

Though far from bad, the very clear lack of forward planning and unbalanced critique of American culture really make Borat 2 feel like a much poorer film in execution.
What made the original film so great is that it made fun of everybody, yet Borat 2 simply points the finger at conservative America: a very common move that I'd have expected in a much lesser film, and which as a result makes a lot of the film's comedy feel quite predictable.
I enjoyed the original on the basis of it being a critique of US culture in general. Borat 2 isn't a critique of US culture, it is rather a critique of conservative American culture, and thus it comes across much more predictable since nearly every comedian currently alive has had a go at conservative America.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hello from Russia! I love Cohen's work. Such a comedian is the only one in the whole world. To make fun of people who think that the grotesque country I have invented really exists. Where gay men wear blue berets, women sit in cages, everyone drinks horse urine and the age of consent is nine. You must be able to do this! Cohen shows that behind a fake smile and "education" behind this entire screen, there are the same uneducated people living in stereotypes, which makes them no better than those people who live in this "grotesque country of Kazakhstan". This film really gives people the thought that they need to change. Works like this film are rare. A fan of Marvel films will not understand the depth of this film. WARNING SPOILER! I especially liked how Kazakhstan sent Borat to the Gulag and with his help is trying to take revenge on the world. This is really funny. Reflects how Kazakhs react to this film.
PS: I hope Cohen will come back to us more than once in a similar manner and bring us many more films. It is worth saying that during the filming of the first and second parts, Cohen was exposed to the fact that he could be shot. Indeed, a person is ready for a lot for the sake of art! Thank you Sasha Cohen, we love you in Russia!

Sasha Baron Cohen is not the man who made the original anymore, I can safely say that he should hang up his hat and stop if this is the path that he wants to go down! So many scene just feel fake and the political aspects of this are just blank when they spent all of the plot going after them! They just fell flat. Expand

Anti republican trash film, couldn't even watch it all. What made Borat funny was people reaction to him and believing his character is real. Every person in the film seemed like they was in on the joke. Awful dont even waste your time

I did see the first Borat and found it to be a hodge-podge of prank sketches with some very funny gags. Sacha Baron Cohan's follow-up improves over the original with a more story-based approach that still upends the '-isms" in America (racism, sexism, etc.) in the midst of a freaking pandemic. It couldn't be more well-timed in this brutal election season.

The standout is Borat's 15 year old daughter played by Maria Bakalova (she's actually 24) who steals the show with her cluelessness and likeability. How well you enjoy this movie will depend on your own level of political ideology and tolerance to very crude and crass behavior. Personally, I found it hilarious. But it is definitely not for everybody.

Fourteen years later, the country's Premier releases him, with a mission to deliver Kazakh Minister of Culture Johnny the Monkey to President Donald Trump in an attempt to redeem the nation.

I personally enjoyed the first Borat movie, but this sequel never really seems to know what it wants to be. Occasionally it takes aim at the current state of the US Government and those that still support it, but it never really shows us anything we didn’t already know and it doesn’t have anything particularly insightful to say. In fact, for the most part it seems content just to make jokes about antisemitism and the treatment of women in Kazakhstan, neither of which seem to actually be based in reality. The controversy around the scene featuring Rudy Giuliani certainly seems to have garnered attention but overall it all just feels a bit lazy. In the end it is only really Maria Bakalova, as Borat’s daughter, that saves the movie with her energetic performance and willingness to put herself in situations many people simply wouldn’t have the nerve for.

It worksBorat 2 does not have the shock or laugh value that the original Borat had in 2006. Borat (and by extension Sacha Baron Cohen) works when it is able to put people in uncompromising situations ultimately revealing who they truly are. It works on the belief that there can't possibly be people that racist, that misogynist or that ignorant in the US. The first film released when there was no social media, and when Youtube was barely getting started. It was shocking and hard to believe that the people showcased actually existed, they were more like a myth - hence some really funny moments that required virtually no effort.

The sequel however feels forced. In the social media age, where we are constantly bombarded with short videos of 'Karens', Jordan Klepper interviews and the at times unbelievable and ridiculous White House show, Borat 2 loses it's shock value. The ultimate endgame for Borat 2 is the much publicised Giuliani scene, but it is neither funny nor shocking, rather it was completely expected. The same goes for the political rally where Borat starts a sing along. We've seen scenes like this everyday for nearly 5 years - the people filmed aren't acting 'out of the ordinary' anymore. The gaps in between are filled with cringy attempts to force laughs. At no point does the film organically make you laugh.

Save yourself some time, just watch the trailers, you'll see everything that the movie has to offer - and more as there's a bonus scene in the trailer that got cut from the final film.

Borat 2 is a great follow up to one of my favorite comedies of all time. Obviously, Sachs Baron Cohen is hilarious as Borat but I was surprised at how great of a job newcomer Maria Bakalova did as Borat’s daughter. She is essentially the heart and soul of the film and did an excellent job playing off of Borat. The film’s writing is once again excellent at showing off Cohen’s comedic talents and showing the state of the United States in 2020. The film’s story is excellent and I was incredibly impressed at how they incorporated the Covid-19 pandemic into the film. Quarantine started during the making of this film and they quickly rewrote the script and incredibly and expertly wove the pandemic into the story. It was seamless and felt like something they had planned from day 1. Something great that Borat 2 does is show the current state of the United States. They are a lot of jabs at the Trump administration which could/will turn some people off from the film but it’s hilarious and thought provoking none the less. There is a moment towards the end of the film with a certain politician that’s horrible. Not that the film is horrible but what he does is horrible. Since this is a sequel to Borat, it has to be funny and it was definitely funny. I found myself laughing at a lot of moments in the film although I prefer the first film’s jokes over this one. I really didn’t have a lot of issues other than the occasional slow bit here and there. Go check this out when you can but if you consider yourself right leaning, you might not get as much enjoyment out of it as others would. Expand

What worked with the first movie was that Borat played the role of a man completely disconnected from American norms. He was unconsciously sexist, racist, and overall bigoted. It made for funny moments when he would pretend to unknowingly make fun of someone or act in a way one wouldn’t in this country. Also, the reactions to his character were real, and you could tell.

The sequel just doesn’t live up to the original, I’m afraid. It is extremely liberal and the character of Borat is pretty much entirely different from the original. Instead of being a lovable jackass, he’s a super-conscious talking head, which just doesn’t make for a fun comedy. Aside from that, a lot of this movie just felt scripted, as if all the reactions were written into the movie, not naturally delivered from unsuspecting citizens.

To top off the mediocrity, Borat tells the viewer to go and vote, which just felt like a spit in the face to the viewers’ intelligence.

In my honest opinion, the funniest media is politically neutral. That way, there isn’t a bias towards a certain party, and they are able to look at both sides equally and find flaws in both they parties can make jokes out of. Also, being unself-aware of one’s own bias makes the comedian look dumb and makes his work less effective.

There were spots in the movie where some of the magic of the original shined (the KKK costume at the CPAC comes to mind), but for the most part, it was just another propagandist comedy that can be tossed into the bunch of socially-conscious garbage Hollywood loves to churn out.

(PS, the score on this review wouldn’t have changed if this movie were making fun of the left instead of the right. The fact that this movie took a certain side isn’t what ruins it, it’s that it took a side at all.)

In fairness, it's not as original as the first and some jokes feel somewhat recycled. But by God look at how triggered some people on the political spectrum are about this film, but listen here; in Borat 1 people were ridiculed in the same way as people are ridiculed in this film. They are ridiculed primarily for their MORAL views (right to self determination/abortion, feminism etc). Look at how many people conflate moral views with political views in this comment section, almost everybody. Thereby people think the movie is mocking a specific political colour as opposed to poking fun at poor morals. If these people would rewatch Borat 1 with their current mindset they'd critique it for the same thing as they are critiquing the current movie - 'political propaganda'. Borat hasn't become more political, rather, western (particularly American) culture has!

In sum : This movie, just like Borat 1, is poking fun at poorly developed morality (anti-feminism, rejecting abortion). Just because the current political culture conflates and links morality with political colours does not make this a political film. This is EXACTLY a current societal development that this movie is trying to highlight you absolute snowflakes.

People who think this film is political propaganda have been wooshed by fricking Borat. Brains the size of squirrels, no doubt.

This sequel brings him back with his daughter for more satirical wackiness, which sometimes involves him assuming even more absurd disguises. This outing tries to be as outrageous or shocking as the original and even though it sometime succeeds, it’s seldom as funny. Also, many of the scenarios are so obviously staged that the deadpan reactions of his victims lose their astonishment. The attempts at family warmth just aren’t necessary. I don’t know if we’re more jaded now or if the impact is less effective, but even without as many laffs, there’s still plenty of offensive and extreme fun to be had. Expand
