Having agreed to see it with a friend tonight, I have to admit that this was a slight improvement over the chaotic mess that Man of Steel was, but that really isn't saying much unfortunately. The amount of Michael Bay-style destruction and explosions sadly increases in this one and it was even enough to make me feel pretty underwhelmed by the time the film ended. However, I can honestly say that Ben Affleck actually did a pretty decent job as Batman. Henry Cavill was pretty much the same as Superman. Unfortunately, Jesse Eisenberg, was unbelievably miscast as Lex Luthor! This role did not feel right for him at all and I felt that for pretty much his entire presence in the film! Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman appearance was pretty much wasted, since she only appears in the last 10 minutes of the final battle. Overall, the film wasn't without its fun moments and Ben Affleck didn't disappoint, but I gotta say that Zack Snyder really doesn't have a very good grip on this franchise. I completely support all of the petitions out there to get rid of him for all of the future DC films! Expand

The dark premis and the themes explored are particularly interesting. Affleck was fine, Eisenberg was excellent and the tone of the movie appropriate. But the plot holes, oh the plot holes, and quite a ridiculous turn around for batman from enemy of superman to BFF, it just wasn't believable. And Gadot literally had no point in the movie - I can't understand why she was there or what she was doing. And the weird flashback (or flash forward?) scenes just made the whole thing less believable. Seriously why is Amy Adams doing these movies? But all in all you can enjoy this movie, but you'll come away a little disappointed. Performances fine, film work fine, storyline fail. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It could have been great.

Unfortunately there were so many points that pulled me out of the story.

They tried to make Lex Luthor like the Joker.
Wonder Woman is smiling while fighting for her life.
Wonder Woman gets mashed through walls and dirt but her skin stays clean.
Doomsday is one of the most powerful enemies in DC but couldn't even hurt Wonder Woman or Batman and the only reason he killed Superman was because of Kryptonite.
Superman's hallucination doesn't make sense.
Superman could have captured Batman in less than two seconds, but he wastes time when he shouldn't.
Batman's suit gets damaged but Wonder Woman's does not.
Superman saves Lois multiple times but leaves Batman to save his Mom.....once Batman found the location Superman could have saved her in less than three seconds.
Doomsday could catch Superman in mid flight but couldn't hit Batman.

It was still a decent movie.....too bad they always force the hollywood action and explosions.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not as bad as i thought but not a star neither.
Too slow, the best part of the movie were at the end with the Batman fight scenes.
Affleck made good impression of Batman, he looks pretty good as a Bruce Wayne as well, however the Snyder interpretation is kind like a Brute and dumb Batman who is easily manipulated by Lex Luthor, which by the way outsmart everyone.
There were a lots of fault on the story. I can't recommend to anyone but the real fans because must of the people fall asleep before half of the movie.

Batman v Superman is not a good movie by any means, but not an entirely bad movie by any means. It lands somewhere in the middle between decent and average. But let me go over the major problems in this movie. First of all, Batman andBatman v Superman is not a good movie by any means, but not an entirely bad movie by any means. It lands somewhere in the middle between decent and average. But let me go over the major problems in this movie. First of all, Batman and Superman have very vague reasons for wanting to fight each other, and when they do, it only lasts a couple of minutes. Second, Wonder-woman and Doomsday are awfully shoehorned in for the last 10 minutes of the movie, making the movie not Batman v Superman, but Wonder-woman, Superman and Batman v Doomsday. Really Zack? But the movie has heaps of redeeming features. Firstly, Ben Affleck did a great job as Batman, kudos to him. Also, the action scenes are spectacular, like in Man Of Steel. And Eisenberg did a great job playing a psychotic Lex Luthor. It's very hard to come to a concrete decision on this movie, but I, reluctantly, would say that this movie is worth seeing, but not worth buying. My final verdict on this movie is average/decent. This is a flim of lofty ideas that are only superficially explored, meaning that the emotional impact of key moments, and the themic pathos that should have manifested itself, became a string of lost opportunities. Batfleck, Wonder Woman, and Superman are indivudually well conceived and the performances are solid, but the lack of structural cohesion in the storyline means that the overarching story arcs don't intertwine with any kind of elegance, leaving the audience feeling unsatisfied. A film which cost this much, and took this much extra time, shouldn't look cheap or feel disjointed, yet that is what we have. It's not actually a 'bad film', but it's not a good one. Expand

It was a movie that was plagued with really bad pacing at the beginning of the movie. Because of this the first 45 minutes or so felt like 3 random movies featuring Batman, Superman, and Lex Luther poorly pieced together with chewed up bubble gum holding them together. There were also pointless dream sequences and viewers have to suffer through another Batman original story at the beginning, which no one needs to see in 2016. We have all seen it.

That being said, the movie does get better towards the end. The acting was great and I found Superman to be more likable than I have found him before, and I've never been a big Superman fan. The ending was very strong. With a different cut this movie would have been much better. It's a shame the opening few minutes bogged it down and kept it from its potential.

Odds are that when you think of the word "superhero," one of these two is the first to pop into your head. So placing them both in a movie together where they have their long awaited big-screen clash? How could that be anything other than AMAZING?

Evidently, like this.

Let me preface this right here and right away: yes, I would consider myself a Marvel fan more than I would a DC fan, but that does not mean I don't love DC stuff too. Batman is one of my favourite heroes, The Dark Knight is one of my favourite movies ever, and I found a lot of enjoyment in Man of Steel, the divisive precursor to Batman V Superman. I just happen to like Marvel's stuff more, but that doesn't make me any less of a DC fan. I wanted to see this movie be successful so, SO badly. Unfortunately, it was not to be.

Let me first get the things I liked out of the way. Ben Affleck as Batman was a great choice, and he kills it in the role. He is easily the best part of the movie. His motivation for wanting to take down Superman, unlike many other things in this movie, make perfect sense, and we're given that in a brilliant opening scene which shows exactly why the rule of "show, don't tell" is so important.

I was also surprised by Gal Gadot, who was also well cast as Wonder Woman. Make no mistake, she is NOT in this movie for very long. But when she is, and when she and Bruce are playing off each other, it's hard not to be glued to your seat. If nothing else, I'm pumped to see her movie.

And finally, say what you want about Zack Snyder, but the man can create a comic book world like no one else in the industry. Many directors can adapt a comic book, but only Zack Snyder has the vision and direction to make a movie look like an actual comic book coming to life.

As for what I didn't like? Honestly, almost everything else.

I was okay with Henry Cavill's portrayal of Superman in MoS, because he was just getting started. It was a Superman on his first days, so it made sense that he wouldn't be sure of himself, that he would have conflict, that he would be more brooding. In HERE, though, there was no excuse. Superman was JOYLESS throughout this entire movie. What makes the dynamic of Batman and Superman so engaging is that they're opposite sides of the same coin. One is pessimistic and grounded in reality, and the other is unwaveringly optimistic and believing in the best of humanity. At the same time, both are unwaveringly driven and committed, and no matter what happens that might test them or lead them astray, they always rise to the challenge and stand their ground. Here though, BOTH of them are miserable and pessimistic all the time. With Batman it's fine, he's known to not be the most jolly fellow out there. But SUPERMAN? Humanity's symbol of hope and what we all hope we can be as good as? I don't think he smiles once during this entire movie, and he spends most of his time complaining about how ungrateful everyone is.

I was one of the people who defended Jessie Eisenberg's casting as Lex Luthor. The guy is a great actor, and he has played similar roles in the past, maybe he would surprise us. Well, to all the naysayers out there, I concede; Jessie Eisenberg was horribly miscast. I have no idea what the hell this performance was supposed to be, but it felt more like The Riddler than anything else.

This one is a bit hard to explain, but the movie had no flow. No scene ever felt like it led into the next one. Basic storytelling 101 is cause-and-effect. This happens, which makes this happen, which makes this happen. Here, every scene just sort of STOPS, and then a new scene just STARTS, with minimal to zero connection between the two. It made the story much harder to follow, and the constantly baffling logic, plot holes, and pointless sub-plots were already making that a challenge. It's funny how in a movie that's 2 and a half hours long, it feels like it's overstuffed AND it needs more at the same time.

The final act is a complete train wreck. The title fight itself, while surprisingly short, was fine enough, and it did have a few legitimately awesome moments. But after the soon-to-be infamous "Martha" moment, the movie just collapses in on itself. The orgy of nonsensical CG and destruction that ensues in the closing minutes of this film surpass even that of the Transformers movies. The big bad reveal at the very end is just hideous. It looks like a troll from LOTR, but somehow WORSE.

I wanted to love this movie, I really did. And for the first 10 minutes or so, it held a lot of promise. But this is, simply put, a poorly made, HORRIFICALLY edited movie that took the poorer elements of MoS, and somehow AMPLIFIED them. It's easy to make the comparison to Marvel, but it's the truth: this is just a rushed attempt by WB to do in 2 movies what Marvel did in 6. Only the most hardcore DC fans will enjoy themselves. Otherwise, rent it if you absolutely need to

Having lowered my expectations going into the film upon hearing about the castings of Jesse Eisenberg and Ben Affleck I was still amazed at how bad the film turned out.

PROS:

-The film is mildly entertaining even though it buckles under the weight of its uber serious tone
-The cameos from other superheros (Cyborg, Aquaman, Flash and Wonder Woman) were some of the best parts of the film.
-Wonder Woman was easily the best thing about this film. She stole every scene she was in. Even her theme song outshone everyone elses.
- Ben Affleck was actually believable as the Dark Knight. Better than Clooney and Kilmer but worse than Bale and Keaton.

CONS:

-The storyline was hastily written and doesn't seem to be drawn from any comic source I can think of. The narrative is so bad that most of the time you are left wondering why Batman and Superman are fighting and how neither of them can see they are being manipulated by Lex.
-Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. NEVER in my life have I seen an actor more horribly miscast. Watching him play Lex literally makes anyone wish the film would end quicker. He ruins every scene he is in.
- The film is basically a 2 1/2HR trailer for the next movie.
- The editing leaves much to be desired.

I grade this a solid C-

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I rather say that this is neither Batman or Superman as we know them (comics wise). I have never so far seen a guy who's profile is all about enduring and the personification of justice and brilliance break by a single neck breaking. It is soo first world problem, losing sight of justice just because he took a hard decision (killing Zod). I mean, doesn't need to be something bigger in order to crack the character?
Same thing with Bats, Jason Todd didn't change Bats and neither the frustrations that bring Gotham City. It was growing old an watching how Luthor took over the US and some heroes along (Dark knight returns). But not here. He outlived his usefulness and by far. For instance: Can you imagine a guy like Batman sending an email asking Wonder Woman who she is? Is Snyder expecting us to believe that Batman is soo stupid that it never connected the criminal he was chasing in the first place, with the Cryptonite who was going to Luthor, and the fact that he IN THE MIDDLE OF METROPOLIS had his company taking over the technology from the same foreign aliens who swore to take care of?

Forget about editing, music, acting and everything else. In the end we see more character development in a 1 hour cartoon movie. A stupid and mediocre detective and a big powerful whinny Criptonian. Sadly it doesn't look like they are going to fix it, because even at the end of the movie the characters were moved away from the traits that we all love.

It has certainly brought out some of the most exaggerated opinions on both sides of the spectrum, that's for sure. From people pretty much calling the movie a spawn of satan to others saying it's the second coming. The same thing happened with 'Man of Steel', a movie that was said ''divided the internet''.

Personally I found BvS (like Man of Steel) frustratingly disappointing. I had on occasion some short fleeting moments of interest and enjoyment, but they constantly ended because the movie was so eager to move on to the next thing, leaving the watcher little time to absorb what was happening. When you have a movie like this that is so laden with narrative that you have to increase the pacing, the inevitable outcome of short-cut storytelling and minimum character development happens, and in my opinion the movie suffers greatly. This movie should have been split into two, maybe even three movies, there is no question about it. Now my knowledge of the Superman comics pales in comparison to my pretty large knowledge of Batman but I know that there are at least three Superman arch's depicted in this film, one of which is pretty major and is only given the last 10 mins of the movie. I can't see how any fan of the comics can say the film did them justice.

The acting was rather good and I'm pretty sure Ben Affleck proved that a lot of peoples negativity was misplaced. The less I say about Jesse Eisenberg's performance as the Joker, ehh I mean Lex Luthor the better. Like most Zach Snyder flicks it has its contrivances/ plot holes and of course Snyder still can't help himself mix church with movie making. The biblical metaphors he loves to make aren't very clever nor subtle in the slightest, perhaps that's why these films bring out the most passionate of responses, and releasing the movie on easter weekend was no coincidence that's for sure. Overall I'm disappointed but it did have some real awesome action scenes.....that counts for something right?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Acting was amazing, besides that of "Alexander Luthor" . Movie plot points seemed way too convenient and almost disrespectful to the audience at how dumb the writers must think we are (having lexcorp actually make the symbols for cameos on files, how easy it was to make doomsday, how Lex Luthor literally had no motive, how the Somalia scene didn't even need to be there i mean come on superman doesn't use bullets and kill people) i could go on forever at how certain points were unnecessary. Action and acting was superb but huge plot holes throughout and seems very chopped up in the first hour and a half. Jesse Eisenberg was a terrible casting choice. this movie had so much potential but fell short and the only thing keeping it higher than a 4 is Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, and the meager amount of Gal Gadot Expand

As a comic book fan, I honestly had hopes for this movie. I was disappointed by the loose backstory they gave Batman; however, a proper backstory would have taken at least another movie, and with this coming out so soon after the Dark Knight trilogy, it's understandable why they chose to leave it out. My biggest problem was how much they tried to cram into this movie. Marvel took five movies to introduce the main members of their Avengers team; DC tried to do that in one movie. the result: train wreck. My final problem was with how lame Doomsday looked.

Superman is once again presented as messiah-like piece of cardboard, even though Cavill's performance is good he just cannot sell an uninteresting superman. Batman is another character that the writers just seemed to have missed. What was a once a moral superhero with a strict no kill, no guns code is now a morally grey kill happy madman. Ben Affleck does well with what he has been given but again the character is just not right. Lex Luthor is another character who is completely wrong. Eisenberg's portrayal is more in line with the Joker than it is with Lex Luthor. All in all the characters have just missed the point of what made them so great. The story is also a case of too many cooks spoil the broth. Too many ideas here clash with each other and therefore make the film a chore to get through.

The theme of pacing and editing, to me, was a major pitfall of this movie. It spent so much time playing catch up by introducing so many new characters all at once that it hindered the story.

Logic would also play into my cons. There were more than a few times I was taken out of the movie because I had to stop and think about what was happening and I was left confused by a bunch of things. The constant story shifting played into the logistical issues because of how the story was unfolding that it didn’t portray the characters in a very positive light. The action scenes are pretty fantastic. I don’t mind the over-the-top action sequences as long as they’re done in a way that is engaging and meaningful.

Batman, played perfectly by Ben Affleck, has never been so violent and brutal. Gone are the Val Kilmer/George Clooney Batmen. Affleck plays the quintessential Batman, paying homage to George Miller’s “The Dark Knight” comics from the ‘80s. Well played, sir.
Henry Cavill plays a solid Superman, and as a fan of Man of Steel, I had some issues with his character. Logic again, but I won’t get into spoilers in this post. Gal Gadot, after much controversy leading up to the release about her portrayal as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, was solid as well. The fans in my theatre gave a nice applause when she showed up in her armor, which was nice. This is a very important role for female fans and the future marketing of female-lead super hero films, and Gal did a fine job.
Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal of Lex Luthor was…strange. His quirks and eccentricities were bordering Batman Forever-like style but saved by his intensity. Ever-faithful butler, Alfred, played by the amazing Jeremy Irons, was a perfect casting. I don’t care too much for Amy Adams as Lois. I find her’s and Clark’s relationship annoying, personally.
The addition of the “big bad” of the movie, Doomsday, didn’t look all that great and was shoehorned in and didn’t make a lot of sense. The fight scenes were pretty cool, though.

There were a bunch of scenes that were clearly meant to foreshadow the future DC movie universe, but they felt wholly out of place and unexplained. The quick introductions of the future Justice League members in Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman felt forced and out of place.

The movie spent too much time planting seeds, as it has to quickly establish their cinematic universe and catch up to Marvel/Disney. Although I mostly enjoyed the film, the problems I’ve gone over and others not mentioned lowered my score. I had my expectations lowered early in the week as critic reviews from online sources I follow didn’t give overly-positive reviews. My score would be a 6 out of 10. Keep in mind that’s a pretty decent score, it means there were more things I liked about it than things I didn’t. Would I recommend anyone seeing it? Yes, absolutely. If You’re a fan of the super hero genre, go see it.

Somehow he managed to take DC's two most popular superheros and screw them over. I never had hope in Zack Snyder, as he never was able to create a decent film (at most). Warner Brothers biggest flaw was allowing such a mediocre person direct a film. Batman v Superman wasn't too complicated however it was all over the place, I never truely knew what the story was trying to push. However the action and video effects were good and enjoyable. I loved watching Batman and Superman battle out (unfortunately for only 10 minutes). The film took too many weird turns and alot of times it felt more alike as the film was more of a chore to watch then it is an a source of entertainment. Its not terrible by all means, however I expected alot more, I was very disappointed and I dont think DC is focusing on making there films entertaining and memorable as they used to, instead making films is only a way to make quick money.

Overall Batman V Superman has its flaws, however its not a terrible film, saying that as well its not a good film at all. There are too many plot holes and concepts that dont make sense at all that im very disappointed in the turn DC took and hopefully in the future can find better ways to create blockbuster films without ruining an entire franchise *Maybe fire Zack Snyder and get a good director?*

All in all not THAT bad. As a life long (most Marvel) comics reader but Watchmen fan, I'm probably used to Snyder being a little heavy handed at times and thats mostly what I felt the movie suffered from. Things like Bats and Supes both being painted as bad guys and scowling at each other most of the movie, trippy pointless dream sequences, Lex not having a selfish enough motivation were the worst points. That said: my apologies to Affleck and Irons, they make a very good Batman and Alfred, Gal Gadot really made an excellent third plot point as the usually afterthought in comics (Wonder Woman), I loved the fight scenes and power demonstrations of all involved an the reveals for the future DCEU. Most will not like htis movie and it sure isn't a kid friendly Disney/Marvel show, most will find it understandable and a bit weird but enjoyable, and anyone whose read or dealt with comic writer/producers with a heavy 'vision' will give Snyder a pass and enjoy the movie the most. Once again, same problem: a superhero movie trying to be too dark and serious. Makes me think of the failing Fantastic Four (2015). DC should learn how to keep balance between self-aware fun and respect to the comics at the same time. Expand

Worst of all, its just not as fun as typical superhero movies. Its atmosphere is dreary and uninteresting to add on. However, the greatest gladiator match of all time does have some good points. The acting is rock solid, especially Affleck, Gadot, and Irons as Batman, Wonder Woman, and Alfred, respectively. The film is also very well shot and some of the fights between Batman and Superman are pretty enjoyable. It's themes and expansion on the aftermath of Man of Steel is interesting too. Despite these pros, BvS is a mediocre film overall due to basic film problems, a disappointment, and a truly rocky start to the building of the DC expanded universe. Expand

It should be called Batman movie Vs. Man of steel.
First off the movie has 7-10 opening scenes (depending on what you classify as an opening scene), and 3-4 false endings. Then after 2 hours of unnecessarily complicated buildup (that could have been done in 1 hour or even 30 minutes), they fight. The first 10 minutes of fighting is great, then it becomes man of steel (over the top, silly and epically serious action). The movie tries to tell too many stories at once leading to the viewer not getting enough time to care about any of them.
When the movie is over I got a feeling that this entire movie is just a very long and expensive trailer for Justice League...

Visually it all looks good and the action is "cool", but just like any Znyderfilm, the action takes the focus and the characters and story becomes less important (even though they tell it for way to long).

The Batman-part is really good, and the take on the character feels fresh, dark, and angry, just how I like Batman. Affleck is great, and stars in a pretty good 40 minute batman movie. Sadly it has been squeezed into a 2 hour remake of man of steel.

The Superman part is, superman...same as always. Superman fight's superalienmonster, loves Lois Lane, destroys the city and feels over the top and clichéd.

Batman should be fighting deranged criminal masterminds, not intergalactic cavetrolls. Also batman shouldn't be shooting people with pistols and machineguns (whether it's in a dream or not).
That's another problem: this movie has as least 3 "it was all a dream"- scenes.

All and all It's worth a watch, but only because of Affleck. I want to see a standalone Batfleck film.

Btw. RoboBat is amazing.

I find it funny regarding counter-culture backlash of people saying if you don’t understand or love comicbook movies, you won’t get it. I’ve been deeply into comicbook before most of these people were born, so I’m pretty sure I get it. The problem is the film simply isn’t very good, period. There are long, empty scene, and so many shallow plot devices, it takes away so much from enjoying the film. The ending is rush and smashed together to set up Justice League. I still think the movie is worth the watch, mainly because of its last 30 minutes, but expect to sit through a lot of crap to get there.
First of all, the the good things: Ben Affleck is great as Batman. To give a new edge to a character that has been done to death allready is the only thing this movie has going except the action scenes and its all due to Afflek. His Batman is even darker, more brutal and violent than ever before and while many fans won't appreaciate that, I think it was the right way to portray the character for this movie. Henry Cavill as Superman is the same as he was in MoS, if you liked him there you will like him here too. Wonder Woman just shows from time to time doing nothing until revealing her power in the final battle, but other than fanservice she adds nothing to the movie. But the worst character is Lex Luthor. This might be the worst antagonist of any movie that I've seen in the last few years. Whowever thought of making Lex Luthor a hipster version of Ledger's Joker was out of his mind. Not only is his personality annoying as hell, but his motivation and actions make no sense. I had no idea that I will see a villain even worse than Kylo Ren from the Farce Awakens anytime soon, but congratulations to Jesse Esenberg for pulling that off.
The biggest problem however is the story which is very convoluted and most times doesn't make any sense. The fact that they also try to add social and political commentary as well as as kindergarden phislosophical themes makes it even worse. Its not as pretentoius as Watchmen, Snyder's other opus, but its still way too grimdark for a movie about characters that were written for kids.
Fortunatelly, the actions scenes are worth it. For all his flaws, Snyder is still one of the best at directing action. Wether its Batman fighting some mercs in hand to hand combat or Superman and Wonder Woman having an over the top fight with something that looks like a troll from Lord of The Rings, the action is miles above the crap you see in Marvell Movies.
Overall its not as bad as critics make it out to be but also not as good as it could have been. Still, if you are a fan and want to see a different kind of superhero movie than the hipster, self aware, made by comitee tripe Disney has to offer you should check it out

After the excellent Nolan trilogy, we have come to know of a darker, bolder Batman far fetched from Keaton or Clooney. But, Zack Snyder still thinks of superhero films as boom-boom, bang bang, high budgeted blockbusters, and he certainley delivers us one here. It's really dark, violent and gritty entertainment with amazing fights and great acting with the highlight being the wonderful Gal Gadot and the amazing Ben Affleck as Batman. Henry Cavill felt overshadowed by all the big stars including Jeremy Irons and of course Jesse Eisenberg. I felt like his Superman wasn't as fleshed out as Christopher Reeve or Brandon Routh. Eisenberg was OK in his role as Lex Luthor although they could have done better casting, the jokes don't fall and he isn't insane enough as Kevin Spacey. Ben Affleck knocked it out of the park, I think he is up there in the top with Keaton and Bale. I was shocked to see how faithful Snyder is to the comics, which is a good things sometimes, except when you misuse this power like he has, you get an uneven, packed film that gives you absolutely no time to breathe and render what you have seen, things move quick and there is absolutely nothing human about the film at all because of this. That aside there are brilliantly paced action scenes and the Batmobile chase is going to keep you on the edge of your seat. This has to be one of the darkest DC Comics movie since The Dark Knight, with violent and creepy dream sequences and very violent fights between Batman and Superman. Overall, this is a decent movie that stays faithful to the comics and has some brilliant acting and good action, but it's terribly long, uneven and Doomsday is just crammed it just like everything in the movie. If you have elected to see this movie for the intense fight between
Batman and Superman and the action scenes, you will get it! Now if you
are a movie goer looking for more than the kick butt action, like me,
it will not deliver. The movie was long with terrible pacing; jumping
from scene to scene which created nothing but confusion. The amount of endless
dream scenes, even though understanding their purpose, were not needed in my opinion.
The actors on a whole were not bad and offered an adequate portrayal of
the characters in the film, but fell victim to some average writing and poor
directing. Ben Affleck portrayed the ominous character of Batman, but
his screen presence was mediocre at best. Him as Bruce Wayne, the secret
identity of Batman, was fine. When Batman was first introduced in this
film he was true to his character, operating in the shadows, hearing
only screams, and making a quick escape. This did not hold true as he
transitioned into a loud, running with weapons ablaze, and just having
all-out brawls.Though a lot of fans praised the new darker portrayal of Batman who has no problem taking lives I wasn't that impressed. Jesse Eisenberg, I feel may get the "short end of the
stick" for his Lex Luther role, because he displayed the character in
different demeanor, as he portrayed more of a psychotic genius having a
joker type feel to it. I will admit I was skeptical at the beginning of the film, but as it progressed Lex
Luther became likable. Gal Godat as Wonder Woman didn't have enough
screen time to deem her good or bad for the role but I didn't dislike
what I saw. Overall the movie was below average and probably slightly better
than "Man of Steel."

Though admittedly Batman v Superman suffers from a lot of pacing, characterization and plot issues, there is still a very likeable and, in some aspects, tremendous movie underneath the flaws.

Starting by addressing the positives, and the biggest positive to take out of this movie is that Ben Affleck is, in my opinion, the best on screen Bruce Wayne/Batman we have ever received. The scenes at the beginning of the movie setting up Batman's motives, as well as answering the question from Man of Steel of "Where was Batman?", are among the best scenes within the movie, and the dynamic between Bruce and Alfred (who was brilliantly portrayed by Jeremy Irons) is something that is underused considering how much else is crammed into the film. The action though out the film is exceptional, which is one of the aspects that Zack Snyder does not disappoint on in any of his films. Though it takes a while to get there, the fight between Batman and Superman really highlights the strengths of both heroes, from Batman's clever gadget use to Superman's brute force. Going back to Batman, the scene that sees him take out a room full of thugs is something straight out of the comics or Arkham games, and it's the brutal, terrifying Batman that we deserve. Wonder Woman, surprisingly, is also a highlight in the movie, and her part in the battle with Doomsday is, arguably, the best part of the whole movie. The reason I say Wonder Woman is a highlight and not Gal Godot is that, without the action, Gal speaks no more than 12 lines in the movie. Can she hold her solo movie scheduled for next year? That remains to be seen, but the Wonder Woman character as a whole was used brilliantly. The score and musical themes, Wonder Woman's in particular being exceptional, are all fantastic.

I will not use the term 'main issues' because there would be too many 'main issues' to discuss, so I will highlight what particularly dragged this film down from my point of view. Jesse Eisenburg is horribly miscast. Though admittedly he does not play Lex Luthor, as he plays his son Alexander, this character was flawed every time he appeared on screen, and the mannerisms that Eisenburg adds to the character are totally unwelcome and no different to any of his other performances in any of his other movies. Though Batman's motives were explained excellently, that left the motives of Superman slightly up in the air. As I can't really discuss this without spoilers, all I will say is people, including myself, will be disappointed as the motives are no where near as driven and determined as those of Batman. Adding on, apart from Batman, pretty much every character involved in the movie is hugely underdeveloped. Focus is lost on Superman, Alexander Luthor's motives are unclear thoughout, Jeremy Iron's Alfred is hugely underutilized and Doomsday as a whole made me think, does anyone really care about this poor creature? Though the action is incredible once Doomsday enters the fray, bringing him in is completely rushed, and therefore non-comic fans will not realise how big a threat Doomsday actually is, as his introduction has absolutely no significance on the story for most fans. Horrendous editing will make most movie-goers confused, as it seems in some parts of the movie there seem to be scenes missing out, whether the editors just cut scenes out at will to drag the movie down to two and a half hours remains to be seen. The actors also did very well to work with some dialogue, due to some poor writing, but even actors of Henry Cavill's standard can not rescue some truely awful written lines. Finally, plot twists and dream sequences that would make sense to die-hard comic fans might leave regular viewers out in the cold. Even I, a huge DC fan, had to look up some things in the film as soon as I got home, as it was left unclear throughout the film.

There are parts of this movie that people will love, and parts that people will absolutely hate. Within all the flaws there are some extraordinary little gems of dialogue or well-worked sequences that really pick up parts of the movie, but those parts are only let down by other aspects of the film. It is not the 9/10 or 10/10 that everyone wanted or expected it to be, but I was still on the edge of my seat and did not want the two and a half hour movie to end. From a fan's perspective, I could have given this movie a 7/10 just because I can finally see my two favourite superheroes on screen together for the first time, with some incredible action. But, I feel 6/10 is an above-par score for an above-par movie. I recommend everyone to go and watch it, just lower your expectations, and you'll have a blast.

Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' introduces yet again, another chapter in the DC Cinematic Universe. We get a glimpse of Bruce Wayne's (Ben Affleck) backstory, which has been told many times before. If you have seen any other "Batman" installments, including the widely acclaimed 'Batman Begins' (2005), then you know the story anyway. We see Bruce during the events of when Superman (Henry Cavill) and General Zod (Michael Shannon) caused huge destruction in Metropolis which we saw in 'Man of Steel' (2013). The Wayne Enterprises building goes down leaving many of his employees either dead, or heavily injured.

This is pretty much a good reason for the two juggernauts to fight, this is also a very political movie. Amy Adams returns as Lois Lane, Superman's love interest, and she feels concerned. My issue with her character in this movie is that she did not need to be there. Lois Lane is nothing more than just a plot device and keeps the movie short, which isn't saying much given how this movie is roughly 2 and a half hours long. You can actually feel the run time which is not a good thing.

We see Affleck's Batman and his Bat Cave, along with his witty butler Alfred (Jeremy Irons), who mainly guides and helps Bruce throughout his journey.

We also meet Lex Luthor (a miscast Jesse Eisenberg), who plans on taking one of the Kryptonian species and making something deadly which I will not spoil. Gal Gadot plays Wonder Woman, as many of you will expect, and she does not make that much of an appearance until some time in the very end of this movie. She is also another plot device, and build up to another movie, if you can guess what that movie is supposed to be, you are not wrong.

What this movie lacked was focus, the editing was choppy and the story was all over the place. It tries to jump back and forth between Batman and Superman's point of view, but the movie does not know where to stop one person's point of view, and begin the other. It just cuts to what Batman is doing, and then it cuts to whatever Superman is doing. The entire first two acts of the movie is build up to Batman and Superman battling it out, while the last act of the movie mainly uses itself to build up a certain Justice League movie. The way that was done felt extremely shoehorned, and almost strange as it felt like a different movie.

So, what was the fight between Batman and Superman like? It was...okay! That sentence alone can scream disappointment among many fans. Without spoiling too much, the fight between the two only takes up a mere 10% of this 2 and a half hour film. The fight itself, while neatly choreographed, mainly involves one character staring down at the other, picking them up slowly, and hurling them against a wall. Then they repeat this until something happens which stops the fight, and to make things worse, I actually rolled my eyes. That is not what you want when you are watching one of the biggest movie events of the year.

On a more positive note, Ben Affleck is actually very superior as Batman, he has the right build, his voice sounded intimidating, and overall, I think he did a good job in the role given the massive backlash Affleck received when it was announced that he would be taking on such a role.

But Jesse Eisenberg was never going to convince me as Lex Luthor, he has this annoying twitch, he talks too fast, he tries to look and seem eccentric, but it came off as annoying and childish.

The entire movie is nothing but trailer shots, and the tone of this movie was incredibly gloomy, and almost not filled with any joy whatsoever. The pacing is very uneven, the first two acts which tries to build up the epic fight is sometimes fast and sometimes slow. The fight itself dragged from time to time, and the movie takes a long time to end, you will sit there thinking "Okay, now it will end!", "No, wait, it'll end here", "Come on, you faded to black, it should end!".

Overall, 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' is a crushing disappointment, an unfocused mess that looks so beautiful, and the music by Hans Zimmer, is so poetic, it hurts to see that this movie is a mess. I just wish that maybe Zack Snyder would put story before visuals, instead of visuals before story. At the very beginning, you get close-up shots, and constant slow motion, from that moment on, you know where the movie is going.

She 100% steals the show when on screen. Ben Affleck does an amazing job bringing a more comicbook related Batman to the screen, and frankly removes all doubt as to whether he was best for the role. Henry Cavil once again brings a humble, emotional Superman to the screen, pretty much identical to Man of Steel.

The average viewer will love this movie. At the theater I went to people applauded and all together loved this movie. There are certainly instances comic fans and movie buffs will be disappointed. Oddly enough the major let down is that such a good movie exists underneath all the rubble of bad editing.

In the end most fans only need to know one thing. This is a fairly decent launch pad for the DC Universe. Lot's of lessons to learn, but all in all a good movie I'd highly recommend seeing. My final hope is the Warner Brothers focuses more on Wonder Woman and Batman solo movies for the time being and wait for any universe expansions.

If you take out the subplot of Batman vs. Superman you end up with a better movie focused around Justice League and Lex Luthor. Instead you get multiple meandering and confusing, without being intelligent, subplots. Motivations of Batman and Superman did not make sense. Overall a less than average movie and a poor start a Justice League I want to enjoy. Expand

Because of all this great stuff, this first half is mostly gripping and tense, where time is also taken to set up yet another great character - this time in the form of Ben Affleck's awesome Bruce Wayne/Batman.
One other thing that can certainly be said for 'Batman v Superman' is that it's got style too, as Snyder delivers one of the most well scored, beautifully shot and epic blockbusters in a long time. He also manages to peg a great tone thanks to a visual, gritty and unique style with plenty of jump-scares and horror influences.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: This set-up plants lots of seeds really quite well (even if it takes a little long to do so,) but then unfortunately the plot turns in a new and uninteresting direction. As a result, the central BvS fight is badly orchestrated and unbearably minimal, and then it's followed by an hour of stuff that entirely disconnects and disengages.
Oh, and what happened with Superman? This is not the great character you set up so well before, Zack.
VERDICT: Sadly, overall, whilst the film builds up nicely, when you finally get there it's extremely disengaging and dull. I came away craving some emotional engagement; just anything that might make me feel something.

The movie is clearly cut in several places, bringing forth a disorganized and rushed attempt at a Justice League Cinematic Universe.

Wonder Woman is amazing and given a fantastic and bad ass music piece, with Gal Gadot being the outstanding performance of the film.

Henry Cavill's Superman still suffers and seems to simply be floating from place to place.

Ben Affleck's Batman is great and kicks ass... BUT and this is a big deal: he breaks the moral code of the character often, recklessly and with no remorse, bringing forth something more akin to the Punisher than the Batman we know and love. He is terrifying as he should be but clearly taken to a place the character does not fit.

Jeremy Irons is great as Alfred although he suffers from a lack of scenes and practically no sense of emotional bond between him and Bruce Wayne.

Amy Adam's Lois Lane is horrible in this one. She clearly does what's given to her but what's given is awful: this is a character that doesn't have the wits and sauciness of her comic book counter-part.

Eisenberg's Lex Luthor is the worst thing in the movie, even his soundtrack piece is awful and tacky. He is more of a Joker with some scientific knowledge than the calm, calculating and confident character of the comics.

Lawrence Fishburne's Perry White is a lot different from Man of Steel... long gone is the boss you would love to have, now we have a rabid tabloid fanatic that comes out as immediately dis-likable.

The soundtrack is fantastic although the majority of the set pieces are rehashes from Man of Steel. Again I cannot stress enough the awesomeness of the Wonder Woman track and the terrible Lex Luthor one.

CGI is awful and although the action is well choreographed, the CGI and filming is sloppy with several scenes confusing as a Michael Bay piece.

The plot is awful with lazy and terrible writing. An example without spoiling anything, is that a character throws something away, only to then go get it, only to then throw it away immediately again. Two classic story lines from the comics are present but they are poorly pieced together. The dream/hallucination sequences have no reason to be in the movie, as they are not even explained or of utmost importance, with the first one being ridiculous: after Super Jesus from Man of Steel, another character seems to be suffering the same messianic complex.

The raised moral and ethical questions of the movie are just laid there, mostly by third parties, and although valid and interesting, they are never pursued or analyzed.

Luthor's plot is also ridiculous and I don't mean in the traditional comic book sense: it overly relies on luck and things that couldn't be predicted to happen and yet it simply works with all its flaws, namely one character could have easily been rescued by Superman and yet the movie avoids the issue by pushing the fight with no reason. And the backup isn't even a "break glass in case of emergency" - its executed while the main one is not even halfway done.

Also, Snyder poorly attempts to excuse the destruction and death criticism of Man of Steel being repeated in a very lazy and terrible way: a news report that says most people are already not in the area because its night and their work day is over. Yet the large area is evacuated... immediately in the same scene without even showing said evacuation or without the super- heroes helping. And then immediately again in a harbor scene where the vacated premises are also immediately stated even though it seems forced and no other indications of said thing are shown.

The titular fight itself is great but suffers from the mentioned fast camera shots and CGI, and it is very clearly cut and pasted, with the duration being rather short which is a sour point. Clearly the R-rated Blu-Ray version that is to come out will show what was actually meant to be.

(Spoiler free) I'm a superhero fan both DC and Marvel, with Batman being my favourite character. BvS was extremely disappointing for me especially considering it is the setup for the future of DC's movie slate.

It's hard to judge a movie sometimes but I think one of the best ways to do it is ask yourself; "would I buy this movie on BR/DVD, and watch it without skipping scenes?" In my case, it would be no and I'm surprise and again, disappointed by that.

CONS:
Obviously, the movie will rake in the money and the movies will continue to be made, but I seriously hope directors, editors and story lines are given serious thought in the future because this was a failure.
First up, and it's not a concern for me, but no, don't take your KIDS. It is violent, but more so the slow build-up and overly long run time will have the kids fidgeting to get out :)
Also, if you are not familiar with some superhero lore, there could be a fair bit of confusion. I would hope the already announced directors cut will flesh some of the elements out, however there is a difference between "easter eggs," and simply not bothering to explain things.
The editing was horrible - seriously some of the worst in cinema. Beyond mixing in dreams with real life scenarios, the constant cutting from scene to scene didn't make sense as not all of them were related. Snyder - try finishing a scene and then moving on to the next one. If you are concerned the scene will be too boring or slow in one hit...well, maybe it shouldn't be there.
As mentioned, the run time is WAY too long. When you watch it you'll understand - do we really need that first 5mins or so. Aren't we done with origins...?
The story line...it was okay but had serious issues. Superman's reason to fight Batman (the reason you are going to see the movie!) is ridiculous. It really degraded Superman and while it could of made Lex look really powerful, it just fell flat, as did the resolution.
The introduction of other meta-humans....why like that? It was SO poor. Seeing less of them in the ending monologue would of been better suited and, in my opinion, more exciting for fans.
Lex Luthor was miscast big time....but not as lame as Doomsday who probably could of been held off until a future movie to be fleshed out. And Lois Lane - so fiery in MoS. In BVs - I lost count how many times she had to be rescued, and sometimes over bigger concerns.
Finally, the action was a mix of awesome....and a complete mess....Michael Bay "Transformers" mess. Sometimes it was hard to know what was happening when, and to whom...

PROS:
Batman!! (And I'm not being bias). Ben Affleck did a fantastic job and I can only hope a standalone Batman movie is created featuring Affleck as Batman in his prime. The warehouse scene...best ever.

5/10: Hoping for better in the future.

Superman is finally here, and it’s now official that DC is trying to match Marvel, but lacks the skillfulness. Batman v. Superman is probably one of, if not the most, hyped films of the year, where 2 of the most iconic comic-book characters finally come together on the big screen. Batman v. Superman is action packed, crowded, and rushed making it a true mixed bag. For those who want to enjoy a great action film, and don’t care about some of the finer details, this will probably live up to expectations.
As with it’s predecessor Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman handles the action sequences really well. The film’s special effects are also very good, and the character designs are very well done. It seems with this film most of the positives revolve around Ben Affleck and Batman, as he seems to be the main focus of the film. Batman’s characterization seems to be the not just a shining spot in the cloud of carnage that is this film, but possibly one of the best Batman characterizations ever.
On that note Batman saves this film, because the rest of the film is in a word, a mess. The film tries to do too much, which seems odd since Marvel’s The Avengers was able to handle the same task perfectly. When looking at it Superman, Lois Lane, Wonder-Woman, Lex Luthor, and other various characters are underdeveloped simply because they aren’t given enough screen time. Not only are they not given enough screen time, but the writers rush through shoddy plot points simply to get back to Batman, as if they know the only thing they were getting right was Batman.
The issue with that is if the focus is Batman, then they made the wrong film here, and the film comes across as a wasted opportunity. The problem is the objective of the film, which was to do too much, and therefore rush through the underdeveloped story. Looking at it they either should have done a Batman standalone film or a smaller version of this, which focuses on Batman and Superman, not Wonder-Woman, Lois Lane, Perry White, and countless other throwaway characters. This is where Marvel gets it right and DC still hasn’t figured it out.
In the end Batman v. Superman is a decent popcorn flick, that contains amazing visuals and action sequences. The film isn’t really bad, it just isn’t great, when it really could have and therefore should have been. It should be said that while the film is rushed, crowded, paper-thin, and a little repetitive Ben Affleck and Zack Snyder did do a pretty good job getting Batman right, and that leaves potential for this franchise, but it’s hanging on a thread. In the end if you’re on the edge about seeing this film, it depends on what you want, if you want great action and visuals this is your film, if you want great story and characters, this is a weaker film.

Like a shotgun wedding between two storied franchises, the premise of this film seems forced from the get-go, relying on an improbable narrative that's full of plot holes and shameless tangents aimed at setting up sequels and spinoffs. What's more, much of the viewer goodwill built up in the film's "Superman" predecessor is largely undone by this ill-conceived fiasco. The picture's impressive visuals and solid supporting performances by Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons are noteworthy, to be sure, but they're far from enough to save this thoroughly disappointing effort. When you are making a movie aboutI was very hyped to see this movie but when I saw the reviews, my hype when down and went to see the movie with an open mind. Although this movie is not one of the worst, its necessarily isn't decent either. When you are making a movie about two iconic superheroes fighting each other and then rush alot of new characters from the DC cinematic universe to lead to another movie, that's where it falls flat on its face. Although it mostly stays true to the comics, the way the movie was made altogether is the problem here. SPOILER ALERT. Here's what I feel:

Lets start with the POSITIVES:

1. Ben Affleck pulls off a great Bruce Wayne/Batman. When you see him in action, its great and the best live action Batman yet and the highlight of the movie for me since I'm a Batman fan.
2. When you get to see Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, its pretty badass and plays the character well.
3. Superman in action is also great too.
4. When you actually get to see Batman and Superman fight. Although its not what I expected and could of been better, its a decent fight and its something we haven't seen before ever.
5. The other supporting cast members including Jeremy Irons as Alfred and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White all did good.
6. The final act with Superman fighting Doomsday was freaking cool and then later on, Wonder Woman joins him.
7. The Plot twist with Superman dying and then seeing the dirt on his coffin rise up was amazing.
8. The story telling.

NEGATIVES:
1. There is no excuse of letting the poor editing exist in this movie. Literally in the first hour, you have no clue what was going on. The transitions were terrible. This seems like two movies.
2. It's also very unacceptable that two hours in the movie, they fight. As I was watching the movie, I kept telling myself when are they gonna fight, when are they gonna fight.
3. Superman is an undeveloped character just like how he was in Man of Steel. He has no charisma. He's a very 2 dimensional character.
4. The movie has an unfocused narrative. You have no idea what the movie is about. Instead of focusing on the plot of Batman going against Superman, its more like Batman and Superman and other DC characters. It's also like a Batman and Superman solo movie came together.
5. Coming from that, they even put the Batman origin story in there. WHY? We all know the origin of Batman. It was very irrelevant that they put that in the movie.
6. I liked all the cast members except I have a problem with one: Jesse Eisenberg. His interpretation of Lex Luthor was terrible. He was not very convincing as a super villain. He was very unpleasant to watch and just someone to laugh at. Everyone knew this was a massive miscasting and that he shouldn't be in the movie.

Overall this movie was alright. Its not horrible but still is a HUGE letdown. The critics are right. Although it does stay true to the fans, it just crappy filmmaking. Although the movie has some cool moments in the first two hours, its just boring and more like a drama than an action movie. The last 30 minutes was the best part of the whole movie. I really wanted this movie to be good. I did actually have a gut feeling that this movie is gonna disappoint before I even saw the reviews. Supposedly, Zack Snyder is gonna direct the Justice League movie and I'm sorry but they put the movie in the wrong hands. Just from what I saw of what he did with Man of Steel and this movie, its gonna flop and its a shame. I give Batman v Superman a 5/10

Affleck is the perfect representation of Batman/Bruce Wayne and I can't imagine anyone else topping it now. A solo Batman flick with him has great potential - if Leto's Joker is up to scratch we could be looking at a great conflict one day.

2.The whole fight of Batman vs Superman is less than 10 minutes,The reason I came for this movie is less than 10 minutes.......and they reconciled in 10 seconds because their mom has the same name.WTF...
3.Doomsday,Don't get me wrong, the fight between Doomsday and the 3 heros are is good, the problem is WB should have save Doomsday for another movie, not just throwing it in the end of the movie for a fight.I rather see Batman fight Superman for 30 minutes than this CGI stuff.
4.So many questions and so many WTF moments.Like How did superman recover after got hit by a nuclear bomb? Why did Batman forgive Superman for a stupid reason? Why is Lex so mad at superman for no reason? Why doesn't Bruce Wayne just cooperate with Lex to defeat superman? What happened to Robin and Joker?
5.bad ending.Really WB? You have to kill superman in the end and make him come back in the next film to rush out Justice League? Really?
6.The story is broken, and separate in pieces, make the audience hard to connect all the sequence together, also there are many scene that are unneeded.

WB wants to compete with Marvel,so the combine 3 movies into one movie, and the result is disappointing.
This is not the film that the fans are expecting for 30 years.

I felt like this movie had a lot of potential in the works with its promising casting and the overall success of Man of Steel(2013). I will say that the performance from the actors was over the top. Jessie Eisenberg as Lex Luther was so perfect that it felt comparable to heath ledgers performance in The Dark Knight(2008). Ben affleck played one of the best batman ever to be portrayed in cinema, Affleck showed a aging Bruce
Wayne past his prime, with a more serious and darker personality to the character, a man who doesn't care what he rest of the world thinks. Th minus of these actors astonishing performances was Gal Gadot who played the role of Diana Prince/ Wonder Woman, I felt like her entire character was so under develop that i felt no reason to like the character let alone cheer for her, now that might not of been Gadots fault since she only got to show her talent for a little bit of the screen time, but when she performed it seemed she was entirely out of it and I felt like the writers lost potential to an amazing character.

The plot to BVS was all over the place in my opinion, because I felt that the beginning of the film started out smooth, Batman was searching for Superman and Superman was searching for the Batman. Batman perused Superman because the events that took place in Man of Steel(2013), and the rest of the world debated if he was a savor or a menace. I felt like these events were the highlight in the film until they introduced Doomsday pretty much at random, and the entire fight scene seemed awkward with Batman sitting on the bench while Superman and Wonder Woman took on the beast until Superman takes the Krypton spear and somehow fly to the beast, at this point Batman weakens doomsday with a Kyrtonite gas bomb, and Superman impales Doomsday and Doomsday paling the weaken Superman and killing him for about five minutes and a easily predicted, superman was not dead, and the rest of the world no longer hates superman but they love him even though they wanted him dead in the beginning of the film. Roll credits.

In conclusion this movie did have some highlights, but not enough to cover up the rest of the movies failures. Amazing soundtrack and special effects but, the plot was too far fetched and pointless as it was boring until the last 20 minutes of the film where we get to finally see the Bat take on the God. then Doomsday shows up and his character is completely wasted in a few minute and the writers should have saved this vicious villain for another movie.I still think this movies worth watching once if you're a Dc fan, but wait till you can find it in the five dollar box at Wal Mart or rent it at red box or better yet watch The Dark Knight returns part 2 to get a true Batman vs Superman fight.

Bloated, overlong and needlessly depressing, Batman Vs. Superman runs dangerously close to "so bad it's good" territory, but passable acting unfortunately saves it.

After 45 minutes into the movie I found myself checking the time on my watch - so thrilling was the movie. Then it got better. Not good. Better. Because truth to be told the whole movie has also (mild) problems with cohesion. On the other hand, the actors are reasonably good. Well, with exception of Jesse Eisenberg. But to be fair, I don't think his character was well written, he gave me sort of feeling that he was evil for the sake of being evil.

My advice: Should you find yourself with time to kill, go and see the movie. It's not bad. It's not good. It's mediocre. But I doubt many will decide to see it for the second time. I know I won't.

The first hour or so some of it was OK, and some of it was...boring and silly depending on the character or characters in the scene. Overall film was just way too long, and meant for 13 year olds I think, with terrible writing and laughably stupid dialogue at times, and some of the most nonsensical pointless action sequences in pretty much the last 45 minutes of a film, that was at least 45 minutes too long. But Man, Ben Affleck as Batman is amazing, I loved his performance. I can't wait to see his solo Batman film. But, by no means is this film dull. the action in this movie is absolutely incredible. The lack of motive for the big fight and Luthor's plan are an even clearer mess. My second viewing also confirms Lex and Doomsday as being the two worst comic book villains to hit the big screen. the bad characterization of Superman not only hurts this film but gives a poor outlook for future films staring the Man of Steel. after strike two with the DCEU i have no excitement for any of the upcoming DC/WB films. my first score of a 5/10 drops a point 4/10. my second viewing of films always give me a more positive view of a movie. not this one, this is a major disappointment and lost opportunity. The film isBatman v Superman was doomed from the start. Not only did it have to live up to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, but it also was always going to be compared to Marvel's Avengers, all while having to be fresh and original. The film is no where near as terrible as most critics are making it out to be, but it's biggest flaw is that it is not a 'great' film. BvS was under pressure to please both Avengers and Dark Knight fans, so anything less then perfect would not please fans.

The movie has too much to explain and too little time to do so. Most of the film revolves around explaining origins and past events, rather then letting the films events play out. A Batman origin movie would of helped with this, allowing them to introduce Ben Affleck's Batman while explaining his back story then releasing the cross-over movie. I also dont care for the casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, as I always saw Eisenberg rather then Luthor. Most importantly, BvS spends too much time setting up the DC extended universe, instead of being a good stand alone film.

Batman V Superman is not a terrible movie and I recommend it to all comic book fans. But it is also a messy film with a ridiculous run time of 2hr 33min for a superhero movie. I thought Ben Affleck's Batman was great and it is worth going to see the movie for the fight scenes alone. But in the end Batman V Superman is an average film, not an amazing one.

Opening credits show the Waynes death. Not much to say about that except please let it be the last time ( Also did you know Batmans mums name is Martha, it's super important). The movie starts of with a bang. Watching the new Bruce Wayne ( you know Ben Affleck plays him) run through the city as Man of steel rages above him is genuinely cool. It gives credence to why Batman has a grudge against this guy who in part was responsible for the destruction of a city and how he was personally effected by what happened at Wayne tower. The scene did have a weird bit where apparently the employees would not evacuate unless Bruce said so, this leads me to assume Wayne industries has some really strict employment rules but whatever. After this the film nose dives into over an hour incoherently strung together scenes which set out about five sub plots which the films struggles to wrestle together until Lex Luthor blows up the senate and shouts go beat up Batman. Whatever happened in Africa is forgotten about the debate about what is the role of Superman becomes obsolete, as everyone in the film who cared about that plot died. The titular bout ends up being forced. Any reason to why superman would really want to take on Batman is thrown out as soon as his mum is captured by Lex and Batman is never shown to be a character who people think can take superman. Going into the film I expected a a build up through out the film where people are almost arguing like kids on a play ground to who would win in a fight, Superman or the myth that is Batman. Instead Batman is mostly ignored by everyone in the movie with any mention of his name being met with disinterest. No one was contemplating that the crime fighter from Gotham could be the one who goes toe to toe with a god, but that what kryptonite is for I guess. Despite this, as far as fight choreography goes Zach Snyder knows what he is doing. The fight is easy to follow epic in feel and ended by the word Marther. That kind of cuts short would should have been a longer fight. It should also be noted that this is not a Superman film, it is a Batman film. Why no one can make a Superman without giving most of the attention to either Lois or another supporting character is beyond me, but most of the time is spent with a very grumpy Bruce Wayne. Ben Affleck does a fine job in the role but he is not playing Batman. The interpretation of his character kills, he brands people, he shoots guns. Gone is the morale compass and determination to not become just another criminal that 75 years of comics has given us. What left is a character from watchmen, it's a brutal interpretation of the icon which I wouldn't mind so much if this wasn't what we were getting in what is going to be the definitive set of DC films. Superman is left with less screen time to be grumpy and literally has a bomb go off in his face when his time to talk comes, which is frustrating as Henry Cavill needs his time to shine as the Character and just is not been given a lot to do. Lois Lane is shoe horned in wherever possible to try and keep the many threads of the plot in the air, however for all the screen time she gets I feel her part could be cut from the film and nothing much would change. Congratulations to Gal Gadot, who despite being barely in this film made me excited for Wonder Woman. More on the last fight in a bit but without saying much at all she stood out as a great character. The villains of this film are a weak point on what was already very thin ice. Jesse Eisenberg must have been told to act like a cross between the Riddler and Mark Zuckerberg so can't blame him for the result but seriously it was bad. In this universe where all the heroes seem to be in need of anti depressants, I hope they don't make the same trend of all villains being pulled straight out of Looney tunes. The idea did not work and needs to be toned down. All I can say about Dooms day is he looks like a cave troll and why did he keep exploding? By the time Bats and supes have bonded over their mums sharing a name and Batman has murdered everyone to save Martha the finale fight begins. Dooms day comes exploding....... I'm bored, this movie is devoid of energy and direction. The set up to future films were forced, cheap and nonsensical at times and all an it was kind of **** Expand

It seems Warner Bros. is in a real hurry to reveal their comic book universe on the screen, thus already in their second movie they throw two the most iconic DC characters in a clash. However, even so accomplished visionary like Zack SnyderIt seems Warner Bros. is in a real hurry to reveal their comic book universe on the screen, thus already in their second movie they throw two the most iconic DC characters in a clash. However, even so accomplished visionary like Zack Snyder and his team failed to reach the bar, set by comic book genre and under the heap of visual effect and expressly darkness there's buried not much, because nor story, nor drama can't satisfy even in general. Moreover, careless editing and rambling screenplay harm for acceptance of positive moments.

The film starts with Bruce Wayne's parent's death and funeral scene. Such trivial opening expresses, that what you're about to see is pretty lateral and boring. On the other side, without it, Batman's motives would be not just stretched, but in absence. And it's a problem of whole movie, especially if it take into consideration that it's based on a conflict between different sides. So, no one's side position is normally justified. Whether it's Lex Luthor, who hates Superman so much, that are ready to create monster of mass-destruction and play with alien technologies, or a grumpy billionaire, who's building was destroyed during the alien invasion and now he's possessed by the idea of killing humanity's savior only because of some kind of a prejudice. In some way, there can be made parallels with Lex's mentioned childhood issues and Batman's painful experiences, but nothing of that is explained more than for a little glimpse in a whole scenario. Otherwise, Chris Terrio's script isn't bad at all, as its partially filled with some sort of drama or suspense, but it seems like it should be a multiple times longer and what we see in movie is a rough cut of it. Indeed, film is full of different story lines and characters and they are so unbalanced and intricate. So you just getting bored by all that mess, because nothing is being interpreted on cinema language and you're continuing to watch clips from different movies at the same time. Eventually, visually film looks pretty stunning, despite on its excessive dark tone. However, even this side screwed by two things. First - the lack of action, which starts approximately only in the second half, so to this moment, after all of its gloom, you are waiting of something really amazing, but what you're getting, it's «not really». Second - all actions scenes are spoiled buy enormous quantity of GCI, even where it's unnecessary. Moreover it's not so cool, as it can be. At the same time, scene of Batman rampage closer to the third act is quiet impressive, although a bit ruined by character's unreasonable savageness to his enemies. No one argues that Batman is one of the most brutal DC heroes, but in this movie he goes real mad without any, at least explained, reasons. At the same time exactly Batman's shape reaches the needed minimum within character development. Of courses, his motives are truly unknown and as a Bruce Wayne Ben Affleck is too grim or just hasn't enough time to show himself in all his glory, but there is a feeling, that after David S. Goyer left script to Terrio, Oscar-winning screenwriter started to develop screenplay especially for his friend Affleck, because In some way, film oriented on his hero, neither on others. And it's obvious, as Superman's character story takes much less time and concentrated almost on mash-ups and «catchphrases». The same thing happens to others heroes, even for well-acting Jeremy Irons' Alfred and very intriguing Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. Nevertheless, film fully failed to develop any of its characters. Especially, it effects badly on Jessy Isenberg's Lex Luther, who is interesting and a great-played character, but, due to the script, seems to become just another freaked genius with Joker style manners and actions. «Man of Steel» wasn't really a great movie, but it gave a solid boost for the universe expansion. Unfortunately, «Batman v Superman» didn't reach any of its goals. However, film's not a total fiasco and if try to perceive it by parts, even some value can be found, but in summary it only continues first movie's problems and buries powerful ideas under the mass of rough storytelling, weak character development and excess of visual effects.

They didn't even know each other, so its hard to feel like there's any weight behind the fight. It portrays batman as being vengeful and illogical. Yet Batman is supposed to have one of the greatest deductive minds in all of DC.

Instead here is how it should have gone. 1. Batman should never have been the one branding and killing criminals. Instead it should have been Deathstroke hired by Luthor and perfectly disguised as "Batman" to be the one killing and branding. This of course would make Superman think that Batman is a thug and thus his motivation to stop him. Of course we as the audience would not know right away that sometimes when we see Batman that's its not really him, that reveal would come about half way through where "Batman" removes the cowl and we see that its really Slade Wilson pretending to be Batman. Then we as the audience would see the pieces start to make sense.

2. At the same time that Deathstroke is mascarading as Batman, Luthor is fabricating incriminating stories and events against Superman. Thus causing Batman to think that Superman is a malevolent god. Likewise this big reveal happens for us and our two heroes in the middle of the movie and we all realize that's its all a set up. Luthor, by pitting Superman and Batman wants their fight to cause destruction in both Gotham and Metropolis. Why? Money. Luthor whole motivation for anything is money and power. And the value and power of LexCorp skyrocketed after his investments into the post Man of Steel rebuilding effort, and Luthor is so drunk with power and money that he is willing to manipulate our two heroes into causing city wide destruction so that he can continue to profit. So that's my idea in a nutshell. I know it doesn't solve every problem with the movie.

And btw, they should have watied to do a true Batman vs Superman movie several movies into the DCEU after Batman and Superman have a strong and established relationship of friendship and trust. In this versus movie Superman would have been infected by whatever version of kryptonite makes him evil. Batman is thus forced to engage him, and either has to find a way to defeat the effects of the evil kryptonite or he has to kill Superman with green Kryptonite.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into this movie expecting it to be as bad as Man of Steel but I ended up enjoying it much more that I originally thought. Now that's not to say that it was good, in fact, the movie was quite mediocre, not just for a superhero movie, but just in general, but I found myself gasping or sitting up in my seat several times.

The movie seems to switch from being 8-9/10 to 2-3/10, I'd see an awesome scene with Ben Affleck and Jeremy Irons then have it ruined by Henry Cavill and Amy Adams making out in a bath tub (I just threw out two random scenes, I actually think the tub scene happens first, I don't remember).

The acting is good, but the scripting is terrible. The actors for the most part were convincing and played their character well, but the lines were just so fake. They all sounded like they were written for an audience and not the individual they were talking to, nobody talks the way they do to each other, that's just not realistic. Oh, and there were like two jokes and they both sucked and were in horribly inappropriate places.

Snyder seems to want to cram as much stuff into this movie as he can, some of it was good, Wonder Woman was probably the highlight of the movie, she deserved more screen time, but things like love affair between Kent and Lane seems forced and unnecessary at points.

But my biggest grievance is when Batman is five seconds away from killing Superman and he spares him because their mothers share the same name. WHAT?! You've been training from like, what a month?, forging Kryptonite grenades and even using a goddamn laser to make a Kryptonite spear and you spare him because "Martha, Martha..." **** that's the stupidest thing I've ever seen from a superhero movie, and I thought the scene in the Incredible Hulk where he's buying stretchy pants was dumb.

All in all, this movie is not bad, but it is definitely not good either, for every time I'm sitting up in my chair shaking with anticipation there is one that has me reclined and tempted to pull out my phone and read the news because that would be more interesting. See it for the same reason we see Marvel movies, we have to, minus the wit and humor.

My largest criticism out front is that the movie, which is nearly three hours in run time, felt it. Other recent superhero films are masterfully paced, making three hours feel insignificant, but Dawn of Justice seemed to drag on and on. Honestly, no other flaws stand out more than this one, and if anything hurts it at the box office, it'll be this. But I still enjoyed the film for the most part.

It's true, certain scenes in the film were cheesy. And that isn't helped by the fact that everyone seemed to be taking everything so seriously. But what I believe is really riling up the critics is that the film is basically a Frankenstein's monster, made up of four distinct plot lines following four different characters: Superman, Batman, Lex Luthor and Wonder Woman. Each one of them has their own story line, but also is forced to interact with the stories of other characters. So, this means the film spends the first two hours of the movie setting up the climax for each separate character, making it quite difficult to follow. On top of that, rather than cutting less important scenes, it leaves some rather insignificant scenes in the middle, leaving the audience to wonder, "What has this got to do with anything?" If you're paying attention, you might be able to tell what's going on. And, honestly, there are at least two, maybe three or four really good movies in the footage and script of Batman v. Superman, but throwing them all together makes the film bloated and honestly exhausting to watch.

But first the positive aspects : Affleck nailed it, perfect cast as an older Bruce Wayne ( not the best Batman of all time, Bale is nearly impossible to beat, but better than Keaton imo), Gadot was perfect, both as Diana Prince and Wonder Woman, Adams was good to and Jeremy Irons was actually my favourite part of the movie, wheneber he appeared he nailed it, a new , menacing yet chilling kind of Alfred which I enjoyed. Eisenberg was a miscast though, too young, not a physically menacing appearence as Lex Luthor, and overacting for at least half of his screen time.
The actual fight part between Batman and Superman was quite good too, maybe even the best sequence in the movie.
The dark , gritty and serious atmosphere fits really well, although exaggerated sometimes, the general dark look of the movie was enjoyable.
And now to the bad things , and first to mention here is Zack Snyder. Honestly, I have no idea what the executives at Warner Bros. were thinking after Man of Steel to hire him again, sure, Watchmen was quite good, but his style of directing just destroys the whole movie, yeah sure, it looks all fine sometimes, but it just seems way too far from reality, at some pints of the movie, it even appears like a SCi-Fi movie rather than a superhero genre movie.
The whole 3rd act , including a horribly CGI-edited Doomsday, is like Zack Synders wet moive dreams becoming true on the big-screen, and this is just an utterly ugly, huge and unnecessarily loud , huge and temporarily long mess, the movie would have been way better if he had scrapped out or at least reduced the 3rd act, but solely this scene is responsible for making worse.
Another issue of the movie are some immense plot holes, which actually need a logical explanation, which will be hoperfully served with the extendet cut of the movie, otherwise it will only make it, or rather "maintain" it the unsatisfying way it is. And due to this, the narrative is actaully maybe even the worst part of the movie, and once again, Zack Snyder is respinsible for that
It is true that it sticks to the awesome Comics of Frank Miller but, and this might be my personal taste and I might stand alone with that, I don't go to the cinema/ movie theatre to see a movie which is close to something I've already seen and read, I want to see a new, more realistic take on it. It would have been nice if the personal character traits remained like in the comics, but the movie in fact looked to comic-book-y and thus way too unrealisitc at points. I didn't expect a 100% realistic take like the Nolan movies, as the ivolvement of Superman makes this already quite complicated, but it would have been nice if it a bit more believable, because some scenes, if you would have paused it, looked in fact like pages form the original comic book, and I just don't want to see that in the cinema, as in already have it at home.
Hopefully Warner Bros. has finally realised that Synder is the wrong director for such movies, just imagin what George Miller could have done with this source material, I hope the rumours are ture and they will hire him of JLA Part One instead of Synder, and for the sake of Eisenberg, I hope Lex Luthor will be recast too, heard that Matt Damon was considered for the part originally, I could imagine as a possible Lex Luthor.
The cast (except for Eisenberg), teh dark atmosphere sould reamin, but they should really re-think theri decision if it is clever to stick that much to the source material, and in which ways to do so.
All in all, as a DC Fan AND a fan of cinema, this movie was , regarding the fact that the two most beloved and most famous superheroes were in it for the very first time together, alongside the most famous female superhero, it was rather a disappontment previous movies, and I honestly can't believe how some people called it the best superhero moive of all time, it had the potential to be that, but this potential was disrespectfully wasted by Warner Bros, and the main man to blame for, Zack Snyder

Again, what's the use of having all this talent gather around an unworthy script. I am such a huge fan of these films, but when the script is on point that is when a film can fly. This script is absolute garbage. By going to this film I have added to what will be a fantastic box office, the only way I can see to send a message is to skip every over WB/DC film venture after this. Get it together guys. Get some real writers next time. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to like it, but there wasn't much for me to like. (or maybe there was too much for me to dislike)

Overall an okay film. Way too easy to nitpick and I wasn't looking forward to it to begin with so I may come off a bit jaded but here you go.
It was far too dark (both visually and thematically) for my taste. I mean seriously, Are both Metropolis and Gotham cursed with an eternal overcast? If that's the case how the hell does Superman stay powered?
WAY too long of a film. I got bored a few times and found myself losing interest in the narrative on occasion. Some of the plot points made absolutely no sense for the players involved but how often does a Superhero movie make sense? I think the editor fell asleep a few times. Plus the ending felt like The Return of the King ending all over again. It could have ended about 12 times and had been much much better.

I give it a 6 of 10. Not bad but not great either. Wont be buying it. Hope Justice League is better.

Below are a few bits that annoyed me the most:

- Lex is annoying. Seriously, this is not the Lex Luthor that would be a foil for Superman, this is something else...not sure what.
- Batman is an **** And also very gullible for a master detective. I mean seriously, the dude has some serious mental health issues that makes him not see the obvious.
- Superman is,,,well the same MoS Supes we saw in the first film. Not much going on there for a 'sequel' film.
- Wonder Woman is amazing. Certainly the highlight of the film. I wish she had had more screen time and look forward to seeing more of her.
- Doomsday is...ugh...three words. What. A. Waste.
- Lois Lane is useless...again a total waste. No character development from the first film at all. Just someone to save and cry over her loss.
- The Justice League Cameos. Again, pointless. Could have been saved for an end credits bit and would have been much more impactful.
- and seriously? Martha? ugh

It aspires to be the greatest superhero film ever shot but falls dramatically short of this goal. There was so much potential for an amazing film to be made but too much is crammed into one film for it to be enjoyable to anyone but the most hardcore Batman fans enjoy. The film stars both batman and superman, but feel like a love letter to batman as he is featured almost 3x as much as superman is.

The casting is done well for the most part as Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot are excellent in their roles. Ben Affleck, shines as the new brutal batman and easily can be said to be one of the best Bruce Waynes portrayed thus far. But the casting decision that sticks out the most is Jesse Einsenberg as Lex Luthor. His portrayal as a neurotic, eccentric, half crazed billionaire leaves you wondering if he would not have done well playing the Joker instead.

The story is messy and convoluted, mainly because of the many unnecessary flashback sequences which do nothing to drive the story forward. They take away from the action, which is the setpiece of the film and distract you from the characters as you try to figure out what you have seen and how does it fit into the movie.

Aesthetically it is gorgeous, despite the world being dark and joyless, the world where superheroes exist is both beautiful and captivating and seeing the superheroes we grew up with brought together in a live action movie for the first time was a treat. However, the flaws in this movie drag it down to the point where all you can focus on is how badly the mark was missed and the waste of potential to make something truly special.

Ehh...this movie was over-hyped and over done. Ben Hoofleck is the new George Clooney of the Batman series. Nipple suits are next! Thank god Joel Schumacher didn't direct this flick.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've seen all the iterations of Batman in film, but none of the animated ones. I have read Dark Knight Returns but had to look up who Doomsday is, so I am a fan but not a fanatic. I was really disappointed to see how this movie was trashed by many - but not all critics. I read a cross section of the reviews here on this site- I recommend you hit the button to expand the critic reviews fully to give an accurate sampling...I really enjoyed the movie, I have to say that. There were plot points like the dream sequences that seemed more WTF moments for me, and the movie had lots to develop to set up future films. But I liked it, I liked Affleck I liked Gadot, I thought Cavill was strong...was it derivative of the Nolan's or a brand new direction, a little of both. Snyders movies are big and brassy yet the film I thought had some softer subtle moments that played well for me and for my wife. In my opinion the movie was much better than the bad reviews- and not as good as the Nolan's- though to be fair Zachary Snyder is charting a new path- and I liked it. In fact and I expect a flame war to follow- despite my love for Joss Whedon's work I only really liked the first half of the Avengers, and was not into Ultron at all, Captain America movies were for me much more fulfilling- Give me Bat and Supes any day! For the experts out there who know Death of Superman comic, and Miller's Dark Night Returns, would you say the film embraces any of those works? Go see it for yourself. I will go a second time! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, here is the unabridged movie description, spoilers and all. The movie starts with a flashback to Batman's parents dying, which we all already saw just a mere ten years ago in Batman Begins, or even more recently if you can stomach the terrible Fox show Gotham. Little Bruce Wayne runs away from his parents funeral and falls into a cave of bats. Then out of nowhere he starts flying with the bats. Then it cuts to black and Ben Affleck says, "that part was just a dream." Phew, close call, I almost walked out of this 3 hour movie 4 minutes in. Next it cuts to Superman blowing up Metropolis while Bruce Wayne is conveniently in the neighborhood. Bruce Wayne becomes very angry at Superman's lack of control in the field of collateral damage. He spends two years thinking about how much he doesn't like Superman, then the movie starts. The first scene in present day is the cops walking in on a Batman crime scene and talking about how much of a badass Batman is in this universe. Then Batman goes back to the Bat Cave after a night of badassery, and is greeted by an Alfred that looks five years older than him. WTF SNYDER?! How old was Alfred when he started raising the young orphan Affleck? 10?! You're creating plot holes where there don't need to be plot holes. Also, in this universe Alfred pressures Batman to have a family more than my mother after a glass of wine. "Sir, I've loaded the coordinates to your Bat Computer and set a course for the meth lab operators; also, have you met the one yet?" Bruce Wayne must be discouraged to settle down by Clark Kent and Lois Lane's over-the-top PDA throughout the movie. They act more in love than two high school band geeks at their first kegger. Few things of importance happen in the first ninety minutes of the movie. Wonder Woman says like two lines, this crippled guy vandalizes a Superman statue, and Lex Luthor creates Doomsday by mixing General Zod's corpse with his own blood (...what?). Then the moment we've all been waiting for comes and Batman and Superman duke it out in a tremendously wonderful fight that lasts about fifteen minutes. Batman is about to win the fight by stabbing Superman with a Kryptonite spear, when Lois Lane comes out of nowhere and basically says "Your moms have the same name!" Batman puts down the spear and makes up with the Man of Steel just in time to save the city from Doomsday. In her infinite wisdom, Lois Lane throws the Kryptonite spear (the one thing that can kill Doomsday) into this deep hole full of water, then is like Oh F*** we need that! Superman throws Doomsday into space, and the army (clearly never having seen Independence Day) decides the only way to kill Doomsday is with a nuke, eliminating the threat but also killing Superman in the crossfire. They launch the nuke and lo and behold Doomsday survives. Superman takes a bit longer to recover, so Batman and Wonder Woman try to fight off this colossal alien on their own. Superman comes back in time to save a drowning Lois, who tried to retrieve the Kryptonite spear she oh so naively threw away. Then Superman retrieves the spear, and is about to finish off Doomsday with it, when Lois pulls him aside and says "you can't go, I love you." LOIS. THE CITY IS F***ING EXPLODING. TONS OF PEOPLE ARE DYING, LET YOUR BOYFRIEND OUT OF YOUR SIGHT FOR 5 F***ING MINUTES. Superman kills Doomsday with the spear and Doomsday stabs him with this sharpened bone thing. The next scene is Superman's funeral. He survived being nuked in space, but clearly could not live through being stabbed. Superman's mom gives Lois an engagement ring and said "He had it delivered here so he could surprise you." BULL S***. He had it delivered to your farm in Kansas, a place Lois Lane clearly doesn't visit often, in order to surprise her, then conveniently dies so this is considered more of a beautiful moment and less of a massive f***ing plot hole. Then Batman says, I'm gonna finish what we started and Superman comes back to life. The End. Expand

Mediocre film making at its best, could have been so much better. Seen this movie twice because i wanted to make sure i was right the first time and unfortunately it only gets worse the more you see it. The End.
