I'm quite disappointed in Age of Ultron of not being great, but is WAY better than all of the modern MCU movies made today.

The script has some flaws, but it didn't make the movie run out of breath or spoil the rhythm of the movie.
The film also has strong points that make some cases show themselves better than the previous film. For example, the final battle is wider and extremely breathtaking.
In the review of the previous movie, I said that Hawkeye was the weakest character. But this time, he opened up to me and I understood him easily. And in one word, he was great. But the weakest character was Hulk! The popular green giant of Marvel, who I never understood in the comics, but in the movie It was great at first, but here, there is no good chemistry and it has dropped drastically.
The villain of the film never reaches Loki's feet in the previous film, because his purpose is a bit unclear and you can't understand what he is doing.
There are some characters that we want to know more about, but they are relegated to memories, and unfortunately, they don't have much of a role.
But overall, it was never a bad movie. Attractive and spectacular, but it has minor flaws that spoil the work.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This movie felt like it was from 2010 whereas Guardians of the Galaxy still feels like it came out just last year. Age of Ultron had a lot of boring, long action sequences without a whole lot of character development or meaningful plot development. It was also hard to take the villain seriously when he's voiced by Robert "Lizard King" California.

5/10 for Painfully Average Action Flick. Not something you wanna watch more than once. In fact, I started writing this review with 35 minutes left because it felt like I had already seen everything the movie had to offer. I was getting so tired of the mindless action scenes towards the end that I almost fell asleep.

No matter how much 'Avengers'/Marvel detractors go out of their way to suggest that those who legitimately like the 'Avengers' films and Marvel's output are wrong and invent ridiculous conspiracy theories without proof, this reviewer lovedNo matter how much 'Avengers'/Marvel detractors go out of their way to suggest that those who legitimately like the 'Avengers' films and Marvel's output are wrong and invent ridiculous conspiracy theories without proof, this reviewer loved 'Avengers Assemble' while acknowledging that it wasn't perfect.

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' is a solid sequel, though not as good as 'Assemble' and not without its flaws. There are a few longueurs in the pacing, as a result of a few overlong scenes that don't go very far (as admirable as it was to do more with Hawkeye's character, the farm scene did grind the film to a halt somewhat), parts that were not as developed as one would have liked or didn't add much to the film and some of the many characters are more interesting than others.

While one does admire that more was attempted to be done with Hawkeye, he still felt underwritten and not always necessary. Ultron, despite a cool appearance and chilling voice work from James Spader, is an underdeveloped, not very interesting and one-dimensional villain and doesn't pose enough of a threat. And while most of the comedy is funny and witty, there are moments that jar too much when the scene is serious or intense and it spoils the mood.

However, 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' looks fantastic, very slickly shot and edited with sumptuous and atmospheric set and costume design and quite spectacular special effects. The music avoids being overbearing or over-bombastic, as well as avoiding being too quirky or one-note. Joss Whedon ensures that the fun and tension rarely slips and that a good deal of the characterisation is interesting, visually and stylistically there is nothing to fault here.

Furthermore, the film is wittily, cleverly and intelligently scripted with a good deal of the tonal shifts handled well with only some jarring humour disappointing. While not perfect in execution, the story is absorbing, there are plenty of fun moments, thrillingly choreographed and executed action scenes (especially the earth-shattering climax) and while it could have been developed a little more and could have been less forced when introduced Hulk and Black Widow's relationship is given admirably sensitive treatment here.

The film's characters are mostly interesting and engaging, not complex but that wasn't expected. The acting is impeccable, Robert Downey Jnr, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans really excel in roles tailor made for them, while Scarlett Johansson gives a fearless intensity to Black Widow and Mark Ruffalo is by far the best and most layered live-action Hulk. As said, James Spader is chilling as the voice of Ultron, and one does wish that more was done with the character, Paul Bettany and Samuel L. Jackson are great value and Aaron Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen play the newcomer roles with plenty of fire. Jeremy Renner does what he can.

Overall, a solid sequel if not as good as 'Avengers Assemble'. 7/10 Bethany Cox

The setting of this film took place in Sokovia - an Eastern Europe that exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - while a good portion of the movie also took place in Tony's massive building, the most fascinating scenes came out in Sokovia. Throughout the film, we saw an interesting fight - not between Avengers and Ultron - The civil fight between the Avengers team felt quite realistic and enjoyable. We saw multiple varied personalities work together poorly in order to garner positive results; Captain America worked for the team, Tony Stark worked for himself, Thor only believed in his faith, and Hulk practically just destroyed stuff. However, in the end, everything came together quite decently as Ultron was finally defeated. While the environmental setting didn't support the film's fantasy, the personalities boosted the calibre of the film through the roof. The clash between Tony and Steve Rogers easily became the best aspect of the film.

The movie's cinematography was outstanding. Marvel fight scenes have been top-notch ever since the Avengers were introduced. I remember being 11 when I initially watched it in 2017, trying to replicate Tony Stark's personality to look cool - Ah, my Avengers phase. Maybe that's the reason why I fantasize about the Avengers franchise so much. Ultron was a reasonable villain with extreme powers, his mentality was similar to Tony's mentality as we saw their style of thinking were compared multiple times throughout the film. The cast did a really great job at acting like everyone in the movie worked better than one could expect. To put it in context, I couldn't imagine anyone else playing the role of Iron Man/Thor/Captain America/Hulk/Black Widow/Hawkeye. Age of Ultron was the first Marvel film I watched, it opened a whole new bridge of Sci-fi movies for me as I progressively got more and more addicted to the Marvel franchise. My initial thoughts on the movie, when I first watched the film, have pretty much remained the same; I still can't get over the fantastic cinematography. I feel like the marvellous ideas and concepts for these superheroes fused with the rather unusual personalities boost the entertainment value of the movie extremely.

One of the biggest flaws with this(or any Avengers movie) seemed to be how exaggerated the strengths of the villains were but it seemed like the villains barely used half of their powers. While this is understandable - they want to actually continue the storyline - it seems like a lazy way to complete the movie. Ultron could've ended the entire world with extreme ease but decided to take the high road and ended up losing. The relationship between Black Widow and Banner finally got some exposure, however, it had no direction as Hulk immediately went missing. The fights between Captain America and Tony were amazing but how did one speech from Nick Fury change the entire mindset of every member? Pretty unrealistic, if you ask me. The humourous scenes were quite underwhelming, though I did enjoy the post-credit scene as it asked one genuine question; if we put Thor's hammer in an elevator, would it go up? I hate the fact that Wanda is so very powerful, yet her stupidity leads to a more unrealistic fight between her and Ultron. The resolution of the film felt quite monotonous as it was just Tony and Hulk destroying an entire **** city with no sense of the people left in the city. While the Shield tried their best to evacuate everyone from the city, surely, there would've been people who were left out. So basically, the entire premise of this movie is that Tony created a gigantic **** villain who can ruin the entire world but the villain decides to take the harder path and gets defeated, leaving many citizens dead. In conclusion, the so-called 'heroes' ended up being the real villain. Ha, interesting concept.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Avengers: Age of Ultron unfortunately falls into the “sequel is worse” trap. The writing and directing lack the finesse that they had in the first Avengers and are both awkward at times. Ultron, though Spader gives a pretty good performance as him, isn’t the greatest villain because it seems that he dislikes the Avengers for reasons that aren’t personal to him. He attempts to come off as sort of a “people person” but ultimately fails to do so because of his goals and execution. The humor is decent but not as good as it is in other MCU installments and is hampered by the script. The biggest issue of Age of Ultron is that it’s a very ambitious film and tries to do too much with its runtime. There are multiple stories going on so as to set up future movies and the movie would’ve done better with a more specific focus. All that said, the actors as usual do their best to overcome the script and are successful at doing so in many instances. The chemistry between them helps to carry scenes where other elements don’t work as well. One highlight of this film is actually one of the low points of the first Avengers, being Clint Barton/Hawkeye. This movie treats him very differently than its predecessor and gives him more screen time and moments to shine. His speech to Wanda during the climatic battle is one of the best speeches in the entire MCU and his arc gives more depth to his character and leaves plenty of opportunities for future development and storytelling. The action sequences are entertaining enough and should keep viewers engaged for the full runtime. While Age of Ultron is far from the best the MCU has to offer, it has some redeeming qualities and is worth taking a look at. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the release of Avengers: Infinity War, I began bingewatching all the MCU movies so that I could catch up in time with Avengers: Endgame. I had heard of Age of Ultron before as I once eavsdropped my classmates when they were talking about it one time. The only thing I knew about this movie was the meme in which Captain America is lifting the Mjolnir. So it'd be pretty much clear to say that I had no idea what I'm about to watch. I watched it with a blank slate. And somehow it managed to be worse than The Avengers in spite of the bigger cast and budget.

There are many things I like about this movie, and many things that I absolutely hate. This is probably the only superhero movie I have ever seen in which I like the conversation scenes more than the fight scenes. And that's exactly why this movie is such a mixed bag for me. The cinematography is so good it makes all the previous movies look campy, and the CGI is easily superior to any movie released before this (not just MCU, any movie at all). However, I didn't like the depiction of Ultron. The movie made him look like a total loser. The way Vision just wiped him out in the post credit scene was the last straw for me.

The only fight scene I liked in this movie was the one between Iron Man (Hulkbuster) and Hulk, since I hate Hulk and this was finally the point where my favourite hero Iron Man beats him to pulp. Everywhere else I felt like getting in the screen and slapping everyone. Black Widow (bleugh!) and Hawkeye are killing all the Iron Man clones with just a pistol and a bow. Ultron always shows up like he's supposed to be the most powerful creature to ever exist, and then gets whooped and goes away. It completely undermines the threat he is, if it wasn't for the Sokovia scene.

Speaking of the Sokovia scene, Quicksilver was the most terrible introduction to any superhero shown in the franchise. The X-Men Quicksilver and the MCU Quicksilver remind me of the Buff Doge vs Crying Cheems meme. His death in Sokovia made me go, "Oh no! Anyway...". Wanda was a much better character, but there was no way to tell she's the legendary Scarlett Witch if we don't know about it already. Same could be said about Quicksilver, but Scarlett Witch got a lot better in Captain America: Civil War, which made her redeemable for me.

Another thing that annoys me throughout the movie is that Black Widow has finally been reduced to what we always expected Joss Whedon to want her to be - an eye candy. Bruce Banner fell on her in one scene (I feel it's hypocrisy if we only talk about Flash and Wonder Woman but not this) and in one scene she kissed Bruce and then pushed her in a pit so that Hulk comes out. And Hulk is a completely separate entity yet he never seems to harm Natasha, even though he did it once in The Avengers.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is like the black sheep of all the Avengers movies. In spite of having huge potentials it simply falls flat in terms of everything. I really like all the characters in their own individual movies and MCU was going so great until this movie came. It's kinda weird The Avengers picked up from The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 yet made them so cool while this picked up from Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier still couldn't live up to their expectations. I'd give it another shot when I have nothing better to do, but until then I'm not gonna be liking it.

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' isn't too far off 2012's 'The Avengers', especially in terms of how I fell about it. I definitely wanted more from both, yet they are still satisfying superhero action flicks. I'd rank this narrowly below the aforementioned.

Robert Downey Jr. felt a little flat to me as Iron Man - he still has a decent amount of moments, just not as many as you get in his individual films. All the others continue to entertain to an equally suitable level, I didn't overly like the characters of Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen but I also don't have any noteworthy negatives about them. The story between Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo didn't do much for me either.

With that noted, it is still an enjoyable ride through the 141 minute run time. The ending is intriguing, interested to see where that goes - I have a minor inkling about the mid-credits scene, given all the internet attention that has had - even for someone like me who knows very little overall.

Edward Norton gives a good performance but the concept of Hulk itself just seems tired. There is no new outlook on the hero just simply a repeatedly mediocre take on a very one dimensiona

I remember finding Ultron very annoying and the pacing very rushed, but now I relly enjoyed him and the pacing, while still rushed, flowed a lot better.

The biggest problems are that the third act is a bit hard to follow and, worst of all, the stupid Hulk and Natasha romance. What were they thinking?

However, it also has some of my favorite MCU moments. The party sequence is amazing. Just the Avengers hanging out and being friends is wonderful to see. Hawkeye steals the show and becomes a much more interesting character. And the nightmare sequences are honestly terrifying.

It's messy, but more consistently enjoyable than I first gave it credit for.

With knew important characters adding to the storyline. We begin to see the power struggle between the main characters and what they do to overcome these differences to complete a common goal or defeat a common enemy. The movie is action-packed with good comedic relief. The actors do perform incredibly in their roles, James Spader as Ultron's voice was, like marvel studios has always done, a perfect fit for the role. An overall great movie and a great addition to the franchise. Expand

After a solid phase two I initially felt it was solid but was disappointed mostly in the lackluster villain. That being said watching it all these years later it's quite thrilling. The characters are developed a bit more but not in the way you'd like them to be and the film does have some dragging sequences. That being said the new characters are fantastic Scarlet Witch played by Elizabeth Olsen is fierce and Quicksilver played by hottie Aaron Taylor Johnson is fun. The film is darker but the central group is as entertaining as ever. Sure there's a few blips along the way but it still stands as a fine piece of entertainment.
