I felt like all of my excitement that built up for this movie was never fulfilled one bit, there was nothing that made me go "WOW" like other recent movies, especially like GOTG. I probably won't ever watch this movie again, it isn't worth my time, I found no enjoyment in this at all. Marvel needs t get their **** together, Iron Man 3 sucked, Thor has never been good stand alone, now this film. I hope Ant-Man and Black Panther don't sucked like this did. Expand

It wasn't necessarily bad, as such, it just wasn't anything special, and certainly not as good as the first. Ultron felt more like a plot device than a fleshed out villain, and the entire movie amounted to setup for upcoming movies, specifically Civil War, Infinity War, and Black Panther. It contributed very little to the MCU in itself, apart from pulling the audience away from liking Iron Man, so that Civil War might be more acceptable to them. Its a necessary point, I think, in the MCU, especially since many viewers aren't readers of the comics, but in itself, it was it was a little lack-lustre. On top of that, the story felt very compressed.

That said, it wasn't a bad experience. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to watch it again, but it was worth watching once, if for no reason other than to make better sense of future Marvel movies.

The lines are intelligent and funny. The themes are much deeper than most people get, especially the scarlet witch visions. The other thing that people seem to complain about is Ultron being weak...he almost destroyed the entire planet and it took the whole team (not just Vision as some people incorrectly think--I don't even know where they get that from) to stop him. There is also true hero stuff, people willing to sacrifice it all and not make the easy choice of saving the most vs few, but putting it all on the line to save everyone. A wonderful stepping stone in the MCU that gives a foreshadowing of the intense conflict to come, masterful! Expand

Nowhere is this more exemplified than with Avengers: Age of Ultron, which feels more like a contractual obligation that an exercise is creativity and storytelling; it ticks all the required boxes, but does so in a less than completely satisfying fashion. Avengers: Age Of Ultron was a fairly entertaining movie with big budget stars and had a fairly intricate storyline. I enjoyed it, even though I do not watch many marvel movies, I felt like it wasn't unique, it had been done before.

The Action was every super hero action movie, nothing that felt like it set itself aside from other movies. However and exception to this action was quicksilver, I felt like I hadn't seen that (quicksilver's) action style. It was unique not being able to see the man who saved many lives throughout the movie and because he moved so fast, you would track where he last was, looking for where he went.

Humour was something I hadn't expected but it was fairly funny, yet again nothing unique about it.

I felt like Ultron came and went to quickly, never exactly developing him as a character very well, which should have been key to making this movie more successful. His name is in the title, but from what I remember he is seen not very often throughout the storyline and the movie dragged on and on for a while.

The movie starts off with a frenetic pace and welcomingly slows down in order to provide more depth to certain characters. In this sense, Age of Ultron improves on its predecessor as I found myself far more engaged in the characters both individually and as a group. Whilst most of the dialogue between these characters remains engaging, much of it seems out of place and takes away from the tension. The new characters however, are what make this potentially good film, great. With the additions of Andy Serkis' character, Scarlet Witch, and particularly Vision, the second instalment of the Avengers, despite a similarly cliched ending, provides a great movie going experience. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Avengers: Age of Ultron is a good movie but if you are not a Marvel fan you will be pretty confused. Like the point of the Maximoff twins powers, the Loki´s scepter in Hydra and more. Von Strucker is just a villain that only is killed by Ultron. Ultron is a villain for the kids no like the comics. But if we just ignore that details, is a fun and thrilling movie. Expand

Hear me out. I’d take this advice before diving in.

You fanboys need to apply some Bengay to your anal cavities, like, a fistful. Many of you, in spite of pleading levelheadedness, will still be butt hurt by the ghastly, blaspheming I am about to commit on your figurehead God of blockbuster entertainment and I wouldn’t want your inflamed buttocks to blossom into a full on hemorrhoidal ****

I say this because I care.

Age of Ultron is a mess. It’s a blockbuster that confounds, feeling simultaneously bloated and fatally undernourished. If anything, it serves as a strong testament to an ongoing and fatally regressive refusal to capitalize on the massive emotional invest a good majority of the public has in these films by taking serious dramatic risks. Big-budget escapism will never die, so long as intellectual pandering continues to be the most effective pheromone luring the mindless drones to the multiplex. This latest Avengers entry isn’t guilty of all that I condemn most populist entertainment, mainly because there is a team of resilient artists with integrity fighting for control of this project. This odd meeting of genuine talent and ambition with the compromise and sacrifice that comes with mounting a 200+ million dollar tentpole has processed Age of Ultron a confounding concoction. It shows signs of fleeting life in passages, but is at nearly every turn bullied into submission by established parameters dictating the film be palatable before it be good.

This franchise has already set the stage for an endless churn of films that are at war with being less brand-entry and more standalone, but there's one thing that has been consistent with all Marvel films that tattoo this monotony on each work: None of the primary characters are susceptible to the loom of mortality. For a superhero series, one that frequents in thrusting it’s characters in preposterously harrowing situations, it eliminates the concept of stakes altogether. Even though the effects and action choreography occasionally stumbles and conveys kinetic thrills in spite of itself, I found myself constantly pulled out of the moment by the nagging realization that none of this violence serves a purpose, or ever will, until, like this series, it is acknowledged that it's characters can die.

When Age of Ultron isn’t bombarding you with diverting action, it’s characters are interacting, which is almost worse than the nihilistic fight-scenes. EVERY OTHER LINE OF DIALOGUE IN THIS FILM IS A CATCHPHRASE. There are intermittent highs that rescue these playful, cheesy jabs from resulting in complete cinematic flatlining; just when the ordeal feels ready to capsize through a barrage of one-liners and turn me off entirely, Whedon and co inject a playfully off-kilter segment or a split-second visual gag that actually works. Nonetheless, my cringe face got quite the workout watching Age of Ultron. I’m fine with Marvel's light, easygoing tone, but the reality of the film fringes on collapsing on numerous occasions because Tony Stark can’t have a conversation without punning it up. What a dick.

These blunders made in Age of Ultron are reprehensible enough, but my primary issue with the new Avengers is it's jumbled, frenetically conducted rhythm. Nearly EVERY transition is tainted by a transparent, gaping wound - plot holes of an enormity so egregious that each venue feels teetering of the edge of complete derailment. Whedon HAD to make compromises in order to condense his latest staggering behemoth into a franchise-loyal, cohesive(ish) tentpole centerpiece, while simultaneously retaining his integrity, allowing for legitimate personality to seep through the cracks of his latest high-budget, crowd-drawing effort. Age of Ultron is an immense, seven-course meal and Whedon had the task of delivering the dish, which by no means could be safely digested without unbuckling your waist and allowing your protruding bulge to breathe. Not a particularly attractive look.

To resist stagnancy and stifling billow, he surgically extracted every scene that didn’t warrant it's absolute necessity. This may sound like he has crafted a lean, carefully honed film, free of needless indulgence. He has not. Instead, Whedon got shaky hands on the operating table and ripped out scenes that, though not eventful enough to justify their existence entirely, were ESSENTIAL elements of cohesion and overall flow. I’ll list of a couple instances; if I regurgitated every gap of consistency, I’d be risking redundancy (which Whedon showed little regard for) and stretching my memory thin:

How did Bruce find Natasha imprisoned by Ultron, why was he not guarding her, and why was she not just killed in the first place? (he wasn’t holding her for strategic ransom or anything). How the **** did Thor know when to come back to resurrect Vision during the scuffle in the lab and what happened with him in the pool of water? (this segment feels completely incoherent, not redeemable IMO).

This being the 11th Marvel Studio film to date, the excitement and expectations are extremely high. Therefore, this is a film that without a doubt will break records, just like the first one did, and will have huge crowds lining up to see it. All that said this is a film that moviegoers will either leave the theater loving or hating.
Now lets talk about the movie itself. It feels like director Joss Whedon took the entire opening sequence straight out of a comic book. It was well choreographed, giving each character a shot of glory, and filled with great one-liners. The opening sequence alone was worth what I paid for the ticket. The opening focuses on the heroes hunting down the last Hydra base, following the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This sets the plot for the entire film, as Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has a vision of a dark future involving the death of The Avengers. After his dark vision he tries to convince Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) to help him build armor with an artificial intelligence named Ultron. Ultron was supposed to be a relief and a savior for planet earth, but it ended up being a disaster and a threat to society.
I like that the film portrays a lot of the individual character’s personal demons, showing their weaker and more human side. The audience learned about each character’s past a little more, which helped them understand the characters even better.
There were four main characters that stole the show. Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), being one of the best surprises of the entire movie, had some of the best lines of the film and some great character development to say the least. The Vision (Paul Bettany) was a great surprise as well, having great action scenes alongside great dialogue with Ultron. The third character Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), gave us some insight into her dark past, which allowed the audience to obtain more information about who she is and where she comes from. The fourth being Ultron (James Spader) was one of the best Marvel Studios villains since Loki (Tom Hiddleston). He had great dialogue and some pretty good action scenes against The Avengers. James Spader’s voice gave the character great depth and soul, making him a menacing but also humorous villain.
In conclusion, The Avengers: Age of Ultron was a good film worth watching on a big screen, but to my disappointment not what I had expected from them. It left me feeling unimpressed in contrast to my feelings about Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was so well made and enthralling. Over all, despite my mixed feelings, Joss Whedon has still proved that he’s a talented director that can manage whatever task is put in front of him. So, props to Mr. Whedon.

Final Score: 7.9/10

Much better than Guardians of the Galaxy in my opinion. I'm not gonna use this review to compare the two but just know that I'm not totally inhuman. But back to Avengers, this movie had amazing writing and actors behind it which came together to make a goofy but badass movie. I'm really glad the movie introduced the character Scarlet Witch because it gave an opportunity to go into the Avengers' psyches and see their relative backstories which helped you to identify the characters more and give them a personality more than just beating up bad guys. That said however this opens up a couple moments that try too hard to make you feel bad for the characters and make no sense. Like, the addition of Hawkeye's family just to force a backstory on us instead of letting it flow naturally like the others. Also, if you hate random love interests like I do, Hulk and Black Widow are a thing now. No real buildup or anything they're just...in love because every movie ever needs a love interest. But seriously other than that I have no quarrels with this movie. See it if you haven't already but just be prepared for one or two things that might bother you. Expand

It`s one thing to make movies where you have a solid back story, like Daredevil, Wolverine or Spiderman, even though that is apparently hard too. Even X-Men worked because there was a story there to build off of. It`s quite another to make movies about this bad comic book which only exists because six year olds in the 1970s wanted to "see all the superheroes together!". But there`s no story to work with here. Big threat, must gang up to deal with it. Right, that`s the script done folks! Now for some special effects to cover up that there`s no story! The Avengers is the only Marvel prospect I can think of that`s even worse than Fantastic Four.
But it isn`t the fault of the director. At least not entirely. There literally is no story to work with. I have no idea what made them think they could make more than one movie out of this nonsense. The first one was passable because it focused on Captain America a lot, who does have a decent story to work with. But without that focus this movie is just lame. Thor`s Hammer comic relief is real!

I can`t wait for Antman.....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a decent movie but definitely not great unless you're a massive Marvel fan. Lots of fighting and rather disappointing story.

My main complains:
The villain - AI that was supposed to protect humans but decides that in order to do that he needs to start an apocalypse - how original.

Iron Man has some special suit that he keeps on the orbit. He uses it to fight Hulk but doesn't bother with it in the final fight.

Vibranium - the same material that was used for Captain America's shield. Turns out there is still a bunch of that metal on earth. More than that, Iron Man actually knows where to get that material, but he never bothered to make a suit out of vibranium. Really?

The friendly AI/cyborg they created. He can fly, shoot some beams and carry Thor's hammer, but nobody bothers to explain how he got these powers.

I enjoyed some of the back stories of the characters, fighting scenes were pretty cool but that's it. So far both Avengers 1 and 2 are the movies where the main concept is "Lets put all those superheroes together and make them fight against some evil, people will love that!"

Come on, at least make a decent story or proper enemies rather than a bunch of robots.

The action scenes and effects are top notch, and the characters are all still competently written...but it does not add up to a thrilling movie. Sure, some individual scenes are exciting but the movie drags. The plot is extremely predictable, which is of course true of nearly all superhero movies, but the story doesn't even engage in the moment. Talky scenes are added in which do nothing to enhance the story and end up feeling like mere time wasters. It did start out well, and did entertain me for a good deal of its running time so I can't say it was bad... but the finale is the same old, same old. You never feel like any of the characters are in danger and none of it is as fun as it should have been. A big comedown from the exciting first Avengers movie. Expand

The cast just works superbly. Joss Whedon is a fine directors, producer and screenwriter. He is able to meld the world of Marvel to an incredible masterpiece.

Another great was this film was darker than the first film,at first your like this movie is just fun and FUNNY but along the way it goes dark and I love the way how the humour and seriousness are set, it is beautiful. The character development is great especially hawkeye, hulk and black widow even Ultron(best marvel villain since Loki) he was awesome. Now the reason it's not great is some of the plot points like vision Paul was great as vision but they tried to make him important than he is and I feel it didn't work also I felt Ultron creation or origin was a bit rushed but in the end didn't matter. One major disappointment was ultron's defeat I felt it was a bit anticlimactic and the humour in it was a bit out of place, one small problem was thor's role it was too complicated and didn't make sense but all in all one of the best movies from marvel an absolute BLAST. I would have cut out a half an hour of action and saved it for the special edition blu ray, unless they already have done that. Even though CGI is pretty good it still looks unrealistic, yeh that's cgi that whole city going up, yep all the avengers fighting that's all computer stuff. Some of it is just over the top, if the whole earth went to work to build a flying city they would take ten years just to plan it. Yes this is all fantasy stuff, but we like to see some semblance of reality that's why I remember the house in the country scene more than most of the other stuff. Ultron didn't impress me for some reason as a super robot that is, and the guy he was building, ultra ultron was well, what was he? I thought ultrons face movements when speaking looked too much like plastic moving. Ultron wants to destroy mankind, why? we do enough of that already why not change us into a race of robots, I thought the premise was lame. If I was hulk I would have taken Natasha with me and kept the plane. I think this movie was too much like too much chocolate, it tastes good at the start then just gets sickly sweet, should have made two movies out of it. Expand

It's overly plotted, there are too many characters and storylines and it gets somewhat confusing towards the third act. But it's better than the first one and it features some good action pieces.

Unfortunately, while it tastes good at the time it doesn’t have much lasting appeal. The film throws so much at the audience in regards to action, characters, and story that it is too much to take in causing everything to cancel everything out and create a forgettable film. I’m not saying the Avengers didn’t have moments the parts of the film where it slowed down and had character moments and had external conflict the film was enjoyable; but all that is lost under the excessive story and action. Nothing is given time to sink in because we need to move on to the next big thing. While I was entertained by the film it lacks, any rewatch value, lasting appeal, or anything that could stick in my head. By trying to do so much The Avengers Age of Ultron winds up so forgettable. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Age of Ultron, like most of the Marvel films, was absolutely fantastic. The combination of action, progression of the already intriguing story arc and character development, special effects, and humor make for a great viewing experience. I thought the additions of the new characters were executed well and Whedon somehow managed once again to give every character their fair share of screen time. Also, James Spader did a marvelous job (get it?) as Ultron. He's truly one of the best. There were only really two disappointments I had with the movie at both happened in the very end. The first is that there was zero integration with the Agents of SHIELD television show. I thought that final scene where they're introducing the "new team" would've been the perfect opportunity to at least have a Colson cameo at the minimum. The other scene was when SHIELD came in at the end for support at Falcon was nowhere to be seen. Sorry but that would've been the perfect time to transition him with War Machine and the rest. Those disappointments aside, the only other elements that weren't perfect fall within the suspension of disbelief. Overall, another wonderful installment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Expand

It doesn't present anything particularly original in comparison to the first film, but this is awesome. Just watching this people fighting one more time is good enough. The special effects were really incredible, the action was just awesome, Ultron is an excellent villain and everything just looks fantastic. And also, there are many good jokes in this movie, it is actually a pretty funny movie based on little jokes about little things the characters do and say through the entire film. It's just really good.
The only unlikeable thing is what I already mentioned. It just presents the Avengers fighting one more time. Everything is spectacularly well done, but it isn't really very original.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If Ultron is the "son" of Iron Man, he should have had, as in the comics: 1) flying power, jet propulsion, and he should have the ability to shoot deadly beams from his eyes and mouth. 3) His armor should have been at least as resistant as Iron Man's and Captain America shouldn't have been able to chop him to pieces with his shield. All of the above is valid for his army of surrogates. In the film, he was presented a feeble android. The script was in fact adapted loosely from the comic book. 1) Captain America takes his fellow Avengers to a SAFE PLACE. In the film, the safe place is Clint Barton's farm; in the comics, it's the Savage Land. In the film as in the comics, Ultron wants to destroy all human beings 3) In both the comics and the film, Ultron uses the Vision (Jarvis, in the film) to achieve his goal. My main point of criticism is the romance between the Black Widow and the Hulk. In order to make that plausible, Clint Barton has to present his family to the public and we discover that Natasha is his kid's "Aunt", so that gets rid of all former romance between the two. All that was pointless and a loss of time. The Black Widow should have tricked the Hulk to make him do whatever she intended him to do, just as she had tricked Loki the trickster, in the 1st film. That’s her job, after all. Without that, she is useless. Expand

I saw this twice in theaters and even the second time still greatly enjoyed it. The action is properly balanced throughout the movie, and the tease for the third film is setting up what I think will be one epic & wild ride. When you can put substance to cool characters and slick action scenes, you get great movies like Age of Ultron. I highly recommend getting in on this with a big screen before the summer movies flood us all and it gets demoted to lesser screens or Redbox. Expand

The main problem here is that they tried to do too much and the story wound up feeling clustered. The special effects, however, were absolutely impeccable and completely mind blowing. The acting was solid and the action was well directed. My main problems have to do with the script, as it tried to be too funny, and the amount of characters involved. While the new characters were cool, not only did I not know their names (they may have been said, but I must've missed it if it was), but it just wound up feeling incredibly crowded. However, they did a nice job plotting the film and really did a nice job developing the new characters, while also managing to advance the stories of the other heroes. Their adversary is a worthy one, but at a certain point, you do want them to get on with it and finally take on Thanos. At this rate, it feels like that is 20 movies away, honestly. However, on its own ground, this one is a solid entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and brings plenty to the table. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Avengers Age of Ultron has done it again. Joss Wheden has again crafted a masterful film that balances his excess of characters marvelously. All of the Avengers get their proper time to shine, with none feeling left out as Hawk Eye did in the original Avengers movie. but by far the best characters in the movies are Ultron and Vision. They really illustrate the vision likes Ultron, he just doesn't agree with his motives so he is forced to fight against him.
Overall Avengers Age of Ultron delivers on every level. The action, the characters, the dialog, and the humor is top notch and is near flawless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Avengers: Age of Ultron is a fine, sometimes boring movie that isn't as good as the original. The beginning was really boring even when it was trying to be cool about the scene in the snow. However, when the 2 hours went by, I began to feel like the movie was getting more like its predecessor and was learning its mistakes. I began to have a feeling towards the characters. There is a sad death at the end which was sad and that scene with hulk vs. iron man was incredible and funny when he kept on punching him on the head. Also, the scene with Thor's hammer is really funny. The acting is great, though I don't recommend seeing it in 3D. I don't really think there is a difference. To deny that it has really high points would be stupid. The action is magnificent. The characters interact in a very funny and interesting way, and they all have a motivation for the most part. Being a little bit more specific here: Captain America is all of a sudden the coolest Avenger, going hand-to-hand against Ultron and pretty much kicking ass. Iron Man and Hulk have their moments, although not as many as I would have hoped. Hawkeye and Black Widow feel important enough and Thor... well, he's there too, and he's cool. Now, the Vision is probably the biggest attraction. He's visually astounding. And the twins are good enough to keep the film going on. Ultron is a really interesting villain, even though he could have been more menacing at times. But I do hate one thing: the editing. The pace of the movie is terrible at times and I hate that some scenes have no connection with anything. Regardless, Age of Ultron will probably end up being the least relevant Avengers film, but I think it's very, very solid and entertaining. Expand

The one liners in this movie are brilliant and the action scenes are worth the money alone. The usual suspects shine (Evans and Downey Jr.) and The Vision is a welcomed edition to the Avengers. Spader does a great job and crafts a devious Ultron. The character development of Black Widow is nonexistent and Hawkeye's development as well as the Banner/Romanov romance feels forced.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My biggest concern about this movie was how Joss Whedon was going to handle the story. Before its release, there was a ton of announcements about new characters like Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Ultron - as well as the returning cast - getting stranded in a 2 hour and a half movie, which scared me a little bit. Director Joss Whedon focused too much on spectacle that he forgot to pay attention to the movie's narrative, which is hampered by too many introductions and exposition, feeling very overcrowded at times. However, the movie does have its character quirks and action set pieces that satisfy in every sense of the world. To be honest, this whole cinematic universe is getting so stuffed that is hard to take a deep breath. Is this the beginning of Marvel's downfall? I hope not.

When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for a global adventure.

I was NOT expecting the beginning of the movie to be what I thought it was going to be in the middle of it. It feels unexplained how the team came back together. I mean, where did the Hulk go after the first Avengers movie? Where did Hawkeye go? Did he stay with S.H.I.E.L.D? It just feels too rushed, and doesn't give you a minute to process because you're in a middle of a spectacularly chaotic action sequence. I must say, Whedon knows how to craft a decently filmed, well choreographed action moment and I love that. But the movie just feels tired in some way. Ultron's motivation is too rushed and somewhat incomprehensible, not to mention he had this shtick that made me wonder how a robot can possess a comedic performance like a real human being. Look, I understand he has artificial intelligence but that doesn't give him the possibility to do that. Or does it?

The Avengers movie (the first one) had this charm that put moviegoers on the edge of their seat. This sequel just puts anyone on the edge of their mind. I know it sounds stupid to say that, but there's no other words to express this overstuffed film. Maybe I'm being too hard on this movie. The characters are excellent, the soundtrack is once again fantastic, the visuals are pretty eye-popping, the action is exuberant and there are several dramatic character moments to enjoy. I'm so sad about Quicksilver's death. He would have made an outstanding avenger. You know, for a minor character, he got a decent amount of screen-time.

Funny scenes return in large supply, mostly between the main characters. Some of the humor works, some doesn't, but it's truly gratifying to see that the team production behind the making of this picture hasn't lost their wit and creativity. I also would like to mention the appearance of Nick Fury. Man, I love that guy, and he didn't earn the screen-time he deserved, which kinda pissed me off. I hope he returns in future installments with a good amount of time.

Final Score to Avengers: Age of Ultron: 6.5/10. Not sure if I'm ever going to bump it down to a 6, but one thing I'm sure: This was a blast. I mean, not just in the bad way, it's just sweet to look at. Despite Ultron's bloated plan, I still liked his design (James Spader did a great job) and his lines of dialogue. I liked the characters, liked Joss Whedon's directing, but that pacing and plotting... we have to work at it, don't we Mr. Whedon? Anyway, this was a solid movie and I hope Marvel keeps improving.

P.S: That Stan Lee cameo was funny...

In terms of story, nothing is accomplished here, the stakes are not that high because we all know that no one of importance will die or else there wouldn't be a dozen more of these movies, the humor and quips are fine at first but after awhile it just seems forced and when the tone is set for seriousness it's jarring to see jokes in every line of dialogue. Another problem in the movie is also Marvel's biggest weakness, Villains. Ultron, while brilliantly played by James Spader seemed like a threat at first but he and his army of disposable robots are defeated very easily even when some of our heroes only have a Bow and Arrow or Pistols. The film's story regresses as it goes on, taking breaks between plot progressions even when there is no action, trailer like scenes are inserted in the 2nd and 3rd acts to set up the next 4 of these movies and doing so just takes away the story of this movie and makes it seem like $330 million dollar preview of coming (and distant) attractions. Very sad time to go in a Marvel movie with expectations especially after the raising of the bar thanks to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, like i said this movie should have been a step forward in the franchise but it took 2 steps back instead. The CGI was overused to cover a lapse in storytelling. This is the worst story-telling Whedon has done & I remember Alien 4. Perhaps it'll be repaired in the DVD release? But I hated it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A very disappointing sequel, so many things wrong with Disney's newest movie, so many characters with no time spent actually developing them, many pointless scenes setting up the next solo movies they'll be pushing out. Ultron poses no physical threat to the heroes at all, the only damage done to them comes in the form of the Scarlet Witch. Tony creates the evil AI villain Ultron, so you'd think he'd have learned his lesson, nope, his willing to do it all over again with the Vision, with no notion of how it could have went, Vision could have ended up being 10 times worse. The genius Ultron has the ability to have limitless copies of himself but brings every single copy to the final fight, you'd think he'd have multiple plans going simultaneously having an ability like that, or at the very least plan for defeat & stash a few copies elsewhere. Having watched The Winter Soldier only recently, Age of Ultron really paled in comparison.

The movie is just so bloated, there's too much going on but at the same time not much of anything because none of it is given enough time to develop properly. Countless characters are introduced throughout the movie in a matter of seconds and the story is shifting constantly, it's exhausting and not in a good way.

I miss the simplicity and fun that the first Avengers had... On the plus side, Vision was very cool.

I wanted to like this movie, honestly. But Marvel has become too big for its own good.
In a few years, this will be the movie people point to when they say 'this is where it took a nose dive".
Like Amazing Spider-man 2, there are too many characters and too much back-story that the director/writer tried to cram into here. What could have been a good development story for the main cast turned into a muddled affair of branched sequel set-ups for future movies.
That's all Marvel has become honestly. The character development happens in the stand alone movies for good reason - they are the only focus.
Maybe instead of messing with TV-like stories and cameos, Marvel should focus on character development only with one character at a time. This one could have been about Iron Man only, but instead it turned into multiple characters having flashbacks/flash forwards that it's hard to keep straight.
Honestly I hope Marvel universe gets back to the normal stuff, like developing one character at a time.
Also, same formula here for the first Avengers (bad guy steals something, beats the good guys once, twice, and the third time the good guys win!), although they added two characters to help the bad guy, then turn tail once they realize the motive.
In summary, worth a rent to keep the story straight for later movies (and the expanded Marvel universe), but not worth the theater screening. Skip it and wait for DVD. See Mad Max instead.

Though the sequel doesn't hold up as well as the original, it still had some solid action and a couple jokes that were funny. In terms of the jokes, this movie really only has one running one with Captain America that gets old by the end. Though the story is far from the comic book version, Marvel studios did a god job of making it still make sense. I really didn't like the forced Hollywood formula crap in this movie with the two love stories going on (Hawkeye/his wife, Hulk/Natasha) I think what was really great about the original Avengers was that it didn't follow Hollywood formula much, but Age of Ultron does and if the 3rd of the series is even more Hollywood then it'll be the last Avengers I see. I enjoy super hero movies, but not when they become overly saturated. Expand

As a stand-alone film, "Age of Ultron" is kind of all over the place. But as the punchline to Marvel's Phase Two, it's a satisfying ensemble character piece, packed with action, and better than it needs to be, but only just slightly. Thanks to Marvel cutting out 40 minutes from the film, the plot is both standard in its progression, and weird in its digressions and handling of violence.

The good stuff definitely outnumbers the bad: the Seoul highway chase was intense, beating out anything in Furious 7. Paul Bettany's take on The Vision was a revelation, easily the film's most interesting character. The Hulkbuster sequence ruled (despite it sugarcoating the consequences of the destruction wrought). Most of the character moments, such as those between Black Widow and Bruce Banner, were great showcases of Whedon's ability to layer these otherwise two-dimensional characters.

My biggest problem with the action is that it wants to play on such a huge scale, but doesn't show much of the consequences. There are hardly any shots of dead civilians, although based on the insanity of the destruction it should be assumed that hundreds if not thousands of innocent people died. Instead, the film spends a lot of time showing our heroes rescuing people. It defies logic. Although I understand this is technically a Disney film, the bloodless violence makes me a bit uneasy.

If it were not for Whedon's sardonic writing and the well-choreographed, fast-paced, kinetic action scenes that seem ripped straight from the pages of Marvel's finest hours, this movie would have been just par for the course. Jay from the RedLetterMedia's "Half in the Bag" described this film as the first time we are seeing chinks in the Marvel machine's armor, and I would have to agree. The editing is so disjointed at times, with half-realized ideas, that I would have to say the sum of this film's parts are greater than the whole. For instance, the sequence in Africa with Andy Serkis' character felt shoehorned in. Thor's subplot was almost entirely cut out. The relationship between Tony and Ultron was undercooked. Captain America has some great lines ("it's not about who's better, it's about who's right") but zero character development. But one of the film's glaring problems (for me) was Ultron, who didn't turn out to be as menacing as he made himself out to be in the first few scenes. His insanity angle was not convincing to me. However, my brother really liked the portrayal of the character, so there's that.

So the film is not perfect. But for what it is, it's a flawed epic, one that will likely disappoint some and invigorate others... but given the ever-increasing audience expectations and demands, it's actually amazing how well it holds together. Thank you Mr. Whedon for your hard work, and I wish you all the best moving forward.

So many characters and plots are introduced in this movie that two movies would have made far more sense—maybe three. Ultron is a great bad guy, but is severely undersold as a result of the aforementioned issue. There just isn't enough time for any of the new characters to be developed. Their development is either rushed or lacking.

Additionally, too much time was spent on mindless action sequences. It's the usual fair we've come to accept from super hero movies: people screaming in the middle of the street as our heroes perform physic-defying feats. Don't get me wrong. These scenes can be fun. However, with so many characters and so many sub plots involved these scenes seemed more tedious and drawn out.

How long can we make groups of extras run around and scream while dumping millions into CGI? With Age of Ultron, we may have just found out.

All of this is a waste of real estate with a canvas full of interesting and exciting characters we wish would grow, but are stunted and shortened.

But hey, Hawkeye finally got some much needed fleshing out. I guess we got that.

Avengers: Age of Ultron isn't a bad movie, but with Marval's movie pedigree, I expected better. It's definitely not a waste of your money, but if you're looking for the best Marval movie to date, you'll be disappointed.

We all know these characters but what happened here is that we get to see them. Who they are and how they are when they’re not protecting/avenging something. The first movie was basically the meet-up, "the first day at school" but now they all know each other, they've been working together for some time and you can feel and see it in this movie. Age of Ultron goes deeper with the relationship between the Avengers, and it goes deeper into the characters’ personlities. Black Widow's back story is definitely the most interesting one, it gave her an emotional layer that she didn't really have. It made me feel like we finally got a glimpse of who she is deep down - who Barton knows her to be.

Speaking of Barton, he is in Age of Ultron what Hulk was in The Avengers. He kind of steal the show, he has some funny scenes, and through him Whedon addresses most of the criticism made to The Avengers and particularly to the ones about Hawkeye. It is almost like Clint Barton is pulling a Deadpool on us by breaking the fourth wall because he is very aware of how his character was treated in the first movie and how his weapon of choice might not be the best for a battle against robots. He’s maybe not addressing the audience directly but he might as well.

In contrast to Barton, Hulk was actually like I expected him to be in the first film, slightly tortured, complex, and not completely comfortable with what he is. I’ll admit it doesn't perfectly add up to the Hulk we’ve previously seen but I chucked it up to Banner having battle fatigue. As for his romance with Natasha, Widow made me buy into in once she explained why she liked him.

As vilains go, Ultron was a worthy one. He was smart, sarcastic, and has a child-like innocence in his ruthlessness. Some might like Loki a little bit more but to me it’s due to the fact that we’ve got to know Loki in a few films over the years, and it’s jealousy that fuels him something we can all relate to and that Ultron does not have. As for Baron Von Strucker was window dressing in the movie - not that I was expecting a lot more of him - his real purpose was to introduce the twins in the end-credit scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Whatever you may thing about their East Europeans accents Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were pretty cool. They’re powerful, they’re new, and at the same time you could feel them striving for more so they quite seamlessly joined the team. They were avengers from the beginning, they had something to avenge from the start.

One of the good things with Avengers: Age of Ultron is that from start to finish the story is easily followed and we can already see the ramification the events in the film will have but the interest stays intact.

Age of Ultron is definitely less Disney. It’s darker, more serious, and adult but children can obviously enjoy as well that what the comic relieves are for. What took it up a notch was the danger factor, there’s a death in the film - a real one I hope. @wornoutspines

First, this film had a sense of heart, not failing to take risks at many points. Second, it had some freaking depth for once. You actually felt for the characters, even though Whedon may have emphasized it a bit too much (i.e. Hawkeye's family). Lastly, it actually had a plot. The action scenes were still top notch, the acting, especially by RDJ as Tony Stark, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlett Witch, Scar Jo as Natasha Romanov and especially James Spader as the voice of Ultron, who is probably one of my favorite villain performances in the Marvel Universe. Overall, a worthy sequel to the biggest super hero blockbuster of all time that exceeds it's predecessor in many ways. Expand

Sure it's big expensive well orchestrated action, but I would argue very boring action when one too many of this director's specialty of let's say "idiotically unrealistic synchronous action plays, as in someone picking up or throwing or shooting something and hitting the one in a million mark over and over and over to the point of zero believability" results in therefore zero jeopardy. This thing has way too damn much action. It's just a blur of utterly forgettable nonsense at the end of the day isn't it? The silly dialogue could only pass muster for 8 year olds and the attempts at humor are coming from the sensibility of an uber geek, in other words it's not funny! Half a dozen funny one liners by the complacent Downy Jr. do not make up for it, much less the drivel coming out of the other actors' mouths.
I am a fan of superhero movies when they're good, like the original "Superman", "Batman", "X-Men", "Spiderman", "Iron Man", "The Dark Knight" and "Captain America" to name a few. Those are fun for all ages without being insulting to the intelligence of adults. That's way more than can be said for this overloaded juvenile film.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The biggest problem this movie had is that Ultron was far from being very smart. In the start they made him look like a very intimidating machine, but in the end he was "just afraid" of everything, far from an artificial inteligence who could actually outsmart the avengers. Most of Ultron's intentions were just obvious, except only for the flying city, which in the end wasn't really surprising.
Also, this movie feels like a mess when compared to the first Avengers movie. The first Avengers had a good balance between each scene, and they also explored the capabilities of the main heros in a balanced way. In Age of Ultron, this balance is not there anymore. One thing that made me upset was the fight between hulk and Iron Man. Hulk speciality is being incredibly strong, yet he gets beaten by Iron Man with a bigger suit that was just there on his sleeve. This felt unjust for Hulk's character.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie was surprisingly long and involved, and did a good job of balancing an enormous cast of interesting characters, many of whom have their own elaborate back stories, as well as some new characters. The movie brings the Avengers together again, with all of their disagreements and disgruntlements with one another--their antagonism produces some solid running gags, such as teasing Captain America for his reaction to swearing. The premise of the movie is interesting, as they're now fighting a villain of Tony Stark's own creation, which tests the bonds between the Avengers. We also see (finally) a Scarlett Johansson romance developing, but with the Hulk, as we simultaneously find out that her friendship with Hawkeye is just that. Their just-friends status is confirmed by the discovery that Hawkeye has a comfortable nuclear family tucked away in a set of woods somewhere for their safety, which makes him a more complex character.

The resolution of the film through the creation of yet another artificial intelligence from Tony Stark is neat, and manages to avoid feeling like a deus ex machina by all the work it takes to get everything worked out. The action scenes leading up to the climax were really well paced, as the action was punctuated by conversations between different characters, and it balanced all their different story lines as well. Another solid Marvel movie, that ends on a nice note of anticipation, already setting up for the next installment.

Of course the CGI effects may seem to be fine and you will enjoy a few picturesque scenes but even that can not help the movie to go on high-hope experience.
Looks like JW is done by playing the main role in making the new Marvel universe. I guess, this is not his blame while we can point freely on the policy of Marvel.
Eventually, you will be disappointed for sure, if you are not a little kid with no brains at all. It is very sad, that the sequel could not beat the first one. It gives nothing new but takes everything good we had.

People who gave this a high rating were probably going to give it a high rating regardless, because after watching this movie if you don't think "Holy Christ that was terrible why do we keep subjecting ourselves to movies like this?" you probably don't care what you are watching and just want to see CG things twirl around and smush other CG things. Also, if you think these tired jokes are funny, shame on you. Iron man isn't funny, and a reasonable part of you knows it. Let that part out, and don't shell out money for this crud. Expand

The new characters we appealing and I enjoyed Ultron, Vision and Scarlett Witch however Quicksilver mucked it up. The plot was a decent one but it was copied and pasted from the first one so I felt tired out by half way through. The cameos went well to start off with but by the end each character that had been in a Marvel movie within the cinematic universe felt shoehorned in by the end. Besides from that I would probably get it on DVD to watch it in the future with a fresh mind but for now it felt as good as Captain America: The First Avenger. Expand

First off, let me begin by saying that this sequel has exceeded my expectations by a great amount. I was blown away by the sheer amount of spectacle and work Wheadon has put into making this sequel.

Well, in terms of comparing it with the the first Avengers movie, it would be high impossible to impact pop culture in such a way the previous one did. Wheadon recognizes this, and hence the movie feels fresh because it takes a new path, a painful path for the heroes. It feels more personal, more on what it takes to be a hero and and how being a hero means having no place in society. It's definitely fresh, and avoids the mistake most sequels do by aiming to go bigger and more of everything.

Avengers 2 isn't a mass event like it's predecessor, but instead a much better movie that chooses to focus on character arcs and most importantly, the story.

Ultron played by James Spader is a great villain. He's just like a human trapped in robot's body. He behaves like a spurned son of Tony Stark, and hates his father more than anything. He also has twisted views on how to achieve peace, since he was "born" very recently, and so sees nothing wrong with genocide because he isn't human. Unlike other Villains of Marvel, he doesn't just make a joke now and then, and in only scene is he humorous, simply because he is naive.

In shot, he is a very, VERY unique villain that I've never seen before, and really hope that he returns.

However, the thing I admired more about the movie was how Wheadon manages to for around 16 MAIN characters in the movie, give convincing origins for Quicksilver, Scarlrt Witch and Ultron, enough to symphatize with them throughout the movie. He does it skillfully and artfully and it is integrated seamlessly into the movie.

Some of the so called critics have complained that the movie feels very fast and some scenes have to be deleted. However, I can honestly say that it is not so. Yes, there's a lot going on in the movie. But no, it isn't overstuffed. It simply means that you can enjoy this movie more and more every time you watch it. This is a movie that gets better with repeat viewings, because you absorb something new every time, whether it be something you missed or a fancy easter egg.

Overall, this is a fantastic addition to the MCU, and possibly the best superhero movie of all time.

It's a shame really. They had enough to top the first Avengers movie. Characters building is bad, the story plot is rushed, the huge cut about Thor and the Norn is a shame, the way The Vision is introduced into the movie is also rushed etcIt's a shame really. Spader's cast of Ultron's voice might be the only brilliant thing... and the fight between Hulk and Iron Man.

It feels like they wanted to put as many things as possible to make a "popcorn" movie... is Whedon using M. Bay's recipies ?

In all honesty, while everyone was concerned about "Ant-Man" being Marvel's potential flop--or if not flop, then fall from their previously stellar record--but given how hyped Age of Ultron was, I feel like this their real letdown. The movieIn all honesty, while everyone was concerned about "Ant-Man" being Marvel's potential flop--or if not flop, then fall from their previously stellar record--but given how hyped Age of Ultron was, I feel like this their real letdown. The movie wasn't terrible, but in the wake of hits like Guardians or Winter Soldier, it didn't quite hold up. Sure, there were some good sequences and snippy dialog (no spoilers, just that there are some good little gags), but it still feels like there weren't enough redeeming qualities in the somewhat scattered plot to make it a great film, or even a very good one. Since we know where the Marvel Universe is going with Civil War later on, it feels like Age of Ultron is entirely devoted to shaping character's individual feelings and motives for the next movie. I won't call it filler, but overall this isn't a great film in any light. Expand

But there are also some cons. Pasting is not good. Story is a bit messy. I even fall asleep for a while. But in the end, I got fun watching it. Overall, AOU is a fun movie. Expand

Not as much to like this time around. Joss Whedon tries his best with the material given, but fails to deliver anything truly memorable. The Scarlet Witch gets all the stars - amazing stuff from Elizabeth Olsen and the CGI team.
