Expand

Not as good as the first one. There is an unnecessary romantic subplot, there are also some plotpoints which we have already seen in the first movie. But the action, the comedy and everything else we like is still great.

It would've made quite the differenceWhile most certainly not failing to live up to it's predecessor in the realm of action in terms of both quantity and quality, this film does fail to deliver on the same "wow" factor of the first movie. It would've made quite the difference (for the better) to have a previously developed hero join the team for this bout at saving the world as it was, just a small tad, dull to watch the same heroes with a couple of newcomers, only just now developed in this film fight it out against another sinister villain. Who, by the way is portrayed brilliantly by actor James Spader. The rest of the cast also does an amazing job playing their respective characters. The extended development of this film's supporting characters, especially Hawkeye and Maria Hill was also very well done and welcomed with open arms. While it is lacking in any real twists in the story, it was an interesting premise with acceptable pacing. Expand

Not so strong as previous, some parts feel needless but it´s well compensed with dynamic sequences of action and easter eggs for upcoming movies (Civil War, Ragnarok, Infinity War). For relax and enjoy with a bag of popcorn.

It's very much a "monster of the week" type of story, and it spends a lot of time setting up threads that will pay off in other movies, but it's still a very functional superhero blockbuster. Joss Whedon makes it work better than it should. He's pretty ambitious with the character work this time around, and even when those ambitions aren't fully achieved, it's admirable to see him attempt to give these characters more layers.

That's not to say the character work is bad. The added depth that does shine through certainly enhances the experience, and the Avengers still have great chemistry. Whedon's dialogue is as witty as ever and makes for wonderful banter. Banter that carries over to Ultron, whose parallels with Tony Stark are fascinating. Whedon's decision to have Stark play a pivotal role in Ultron's creation was bold, and I think it paid off.

Compared to the first movie, the action isn't quite as strong, but it's still well thought out, and the few standout set pieces (particularly one where two Avengers fight each other) are absolutely superb. Seeing all these heroes together just doesn't feel as sublime as it did in back in 2012, which is to be expected. It's hard to capture magic like that more than once. The biggest issues here is that the climax doesn't do enough to set itself apart from other superhero movies.

All things considered, this is a worthy follow up to one of the greatest superhero movies ever. It rarely reaches the heights of that movie, but it doesn't have to. It might have an overstuffed plot, but Whdeon's hand keeps things moving at a good pace. If you loved The Avengers, you should still really like Age of Ultron.

After a solid phase two I initially felt it was solid but was disappointed mostly in the lackluster villain. That being said watching it all these years later it's quite thrilling. The characters are developed a bit more but not in the way you'd like them to be and the film does have some dragging sequences. That being said the new characters are fantastic Scarlet Witch played by Elizabeth Olsen is fierce and Quicksilver played by hottie Aaron Taylor Johnson is fun. The film is darker but the central group is as entertaining as ever. Sure there's a few blips along the way but it still stands as a fine piece of entertainment.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is a spectacular movie and has some stunning visuals and plot details. But the villain, Ultron (James Spader), doesn't feel compelling and Avengers: Age of Ultron has, yet again, a huge army of disposable things. Marvel's The Avengers, Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy had this too. Although an Avenger finally dies for once it isn't that heavy on the plot and it doesn't feel heavy either. Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) was only introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and only had 30 seconds in the movie. This time around he is actually in the movie but you don't really connect with him as much. CGI wasn't perfect (especially on the disposable robot army). But the movie does continue the characters' story in a good way and lets us know about some of their biggest fears which make them even more compelling. Overall Avengers: Age of Ultron was maybe not what everyone was hoping for and may have even disappointed some people, but it is not a bad movie and it is even pretty good. The movie is a more than solid entry in the MCU.

The script has some flaws, but it didn't make the movie run out of breath or spoil the rhythm of the movie.
The film also has strong points that make some cases show themselves better than the previous film. For example, the final battle is wider and extremely breathtaking.
In the review of the previous movie, I said that Hawkeye was the weakest character. But this time, he opened up to me and I understood him easily. And in one word, he was great. But the weakest character was Hulk! The popular green giant of Marvel, who I never understood in the comics, but in the movie It was great at first, but here, there is no good chemistry and it has dropped drastically.
The villain of the film never reaches Loki's feet in the previous film, because his purpose is a bit unclear and you can't understand what he is doing.
There are some characters that we want to know more about, but they are relegated to memories, and unfortunately, they don't have much of a role.
But overall, it was never a bad movie. Attractive and spectacular, but it has minor flaws that spoil the work.

Stark has created the Ultron programme which becomes sentient and threatens to destroy the world in a plot that is generally quite hard to follow. Unless you are a Marvel geek most of the plot is fairly unintelligible, the fun for the casual viewer is the character interplay and the big set pieces, both of which deliver in spades. However, so much of the plot is the setting up of future films that confusion soon prevails and it all becomes a little tiring, with the standard finale of a city being blown apart in an orgy of special effects. It's still hugely entertaining but you can't help feeling that the formula is getting a little tired and some fresh blood may be needed Expand

Creating an enjoyable sequel to the surprisingly well-made mega hit "The Avengers" without following the typical cliched blockbuster format was, at least how I looked at it, pretty impossible to pull. But somehow, like the Captain America sequel, Marvel does it again; they juggle the **** of characters, both new and recurring, within the film with plausible ease and also manages to balance the quality of the story with some excellent fight scenes here on and then. Not saying this is a groundbreaking movie that overrides its predecessor, but overall a really enjoyable marvel movie that successfully prepares itself for future expansion sequels. Expand

A fun summer beat-em-up, but far from the original.

Age of Ultron is pretty much non-stop punching action. There's very little downtime between scenes, and every scene has someone punching something. In the first movie we had emotion, tension, drama... basically a bunch of gods trying to get the measure of each other as they fought against a largely unknown enemy, that culminated in a good ol' fashioned brawl. Here we have just the brawl, and the movie lacks for it. It's not bad, but its not the same quality.

It was also painfully clear that this movie was written to fill the gap and get the Marvel Universe to where the writers wanted it for the third movie. There's so much "oh look who's here" and "hey, guess what this is" that it would be ridiculous in anything but a comic book movie.

Ultimately, a fun movie, worth the money to see it in the theater, but I doubt I'll watch it a second time nor remember it much anyway. Unlike the first movie, which I have seen multiple times and plan to see again real soon.

It's not that Age of Ultron was a bad film, in fact there were many parts of it that were very impressive, but what bothered people was how Age of Ultron wasn't geared toward general audiences. In the first film, even if you'd never seen a Marvel film, you could follow the story and enjoy it, but that's not the case with the sequel. Age of Ultron is aimed more at the comic-con crowd and parts of it were very confusing to those of us who aren't familiar with the comics that the film is based on. There are a lot of new characters and new technologies introduced in this film, without any kind of background information given, and as the film progresses, it did become confusing. The story begins with the Avengers as a separate faction from Shield, centering on Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and David Banner (Mark Ruffalo) working to develop a new type of artificial intelligence. The pair believe that if they can create this intelligence, everyone can retire and won't have to fight anymore. As always there is a problem though, as the A.I., known as Ultron, comes to life and fails to see the distinction between saving humanity and destroying the planet for the protection of humanity. The film then becomes a race for the clock as the mighty Avengers try to stop Ultron from destroying the planet. We all know that sequels aren't as good as the original, because the creators change things too much and Age of Ultron is no exception. The story isn't even close to as strong as the first film, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good. The special effects are even better and the chemistry between the large cast is much more important then it had been previously. These things set the foundation for a better film, but the story fails to deliver. The Avengers is a monumental undertaking for cinema, with so many well known actors and characters trying to come together as one. The idea is ingenious and the technology behind the whole thing is nothing short of magic, but as far as films go, while I loved the first one, I could have done without Age of Ultron. Expand

So many characters and plots are introduced in this movie that two movies would have made far more sense—maybe three. Ultron is a great bad guy, but is severely undersold as a result of the aforementioned issue. There just isn't enough time for any of the new characters to be developed. Their development is either rushed or lacking.

Additionally, too much time was spent on mindless action sequences. It's the usual fair we've come to accept from super hero movies: people screaming in the middle of the street as our heroes perform physic-defying feats. Don't get me wrong. These scenes can be fun. However, with so many characters and so many sub plots involved these scenes seemed more tedious and drawn out.

How long can we make groups of extras run around and scream while dumping millions into CGI? With Age of Ultron, we may have just found out.

All of this is a waste of real estate with a canvas full of interesting and exciting characters we wish would grow, but are stunted and shortened.

But hey, Hawkeye finally got some much needed fleshing out. I guess we got that.

Avengers: Age of Ultron isn't a bad movie, but with Marval's movie pedigree, I expected better. It's definitely not a waste of your money, but if you're looking for the best Marval movie to date, you'll be disappointed.

It's overly plotted, there are too many characters and storylines and it gets somewhat confusing towards the third act. But it's better than the first one and it features some good action pieces.

The main problem here is that they tried to do too much and the story wound up feeling clustered. The special effects, however, were absolutely impeccable and completely mind blowing. The acting was solid and the action was well directed. My main problems have to do with the script, as it tried to be too funny, and the amount of characters involved. While the new characters were cool, not only did I not know their names (they may have been said, but I must've missed it if it was), but it just wound up feeling incredibly crowded. However, they did a nice job plotting the film and really did a nice job developing the new characters, while also managing to advance the stories of the other heroes. Their adversary is a worthy one, but at a certain point, you do want them to get on with it and finally take on Thanos. At this rate, it feels like that is 20 movies away, honestly. However, on its own ground, this one is a solid entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and brings plenty to the table. Expand

My negatives - the film does drag a bit in the middle, I didn't buy the romance with Black Widow and Hulk it just felt random and a bit forced and some of the acting felt a bit flat and uninspired. But seriously apart from that, I think Age of Ultron is a solid outing from Marvel, nowhere near as bad as some say. Expand

As a stand-alone film, "Age of Ultron" is kind of all over the place. But as the punchline to Marvel's Phase Two, it's a satisfying ensemble character piece, packed with action, and better than it needs to be, but only just slightly. Thanks to Marvel cutting out 40 minutes from the film, the plot is both standard in its progression, and weird in its digressions and handling of violence.

The good stuff definitely outnumbers the bad: the Seoul highway chase was intense, beating out anything in Furious 7. Paul Bettany's take on The Vision was a revelation, easily the film's most interesting character. The Hulkbuster sequence ruled (despite it sugarcoating the consequences of the destruction wrought). Most of the character moments, such as those between Black Widow and Bruce Banner, were great showcases of Whedon's ability to layer these otherwise two-dimensional characters.

My biggest problem with the action is that it wants to play on such a huge scale, but doesn't show much of the consequences. There are hardly any shots of dead civilians, although based on the insanity of the destruction it should be assumed that hundreds if not thousands of innocent people died. Instead, the film spends a lot of time showing our heroes rescuing people. It defies logic. Although I understand this is technically a Disney film, the bloodless violence makes me a bit uneasy.

If it were not for Whedon's sardonic writing and the well-choreographed, fast-paced, kinetic action scenes that seem ripped straight from the pages of Marvel's finest hours, this movie would have been just par for the course. Jay from the RedLetterMedia's "Half in the Bag" described this film as the first time we are seeing chinks in the Marvel machine's armor, and I would have to agree. The editing is so disjointed at times, with half-realized ideas, that I would have to say the sum of this film's parts are greater than the whole. For instance, the sequence in Africa with Andy Serkis' character felt shoehorned in. Thor's subplot was almost entirely cut out. The relationship between Tony and Ultron was undercooked. Captain America has some great lines ("it's not about who's better, it's about who's right") but zero character development. But one of the film's glaring problems (for me) was Ultron, who didn't turn out to be as menacing as he made himself out to be in the first few scenes. His insanity angle was not convincing to me. However, my brother really liked the portrayal of the character, so there's that.

So the film is not perfect. But for what it is, it's a flawed epic, one that will likely disappoint some and invigorate others... but given the ever-increasing audience expectations and demands, it's actually amazing how well it holds together. Thank you Mr. Whedon for your hard work, and I wish you all the best moving forward.

There's plenty of trademark humor and spectacle and while Marvel may not have been able to reignite the spark of 2012's 'Avengers' exactly, it operates as an acceptable jump off point for their third phase of movies. The movie is a tedious one though, it strives to be a majestic experience, but it is slow and tiring and by the end, you still want to watch more Wheadon, and that is what makes me buy Age Of Ultron. Even though it was slow and boring at times, I want to watch it again. It is full of Easter eggs, hidden secrets and pop culture references. Which makes it fresh, original and kind of...exciting. Overall, we have seen better from the gang, and this won't be the last time we see them, but this movie still is a must watch. Age of Ultron is a solid sequel, but it is not as good as the first Avenger film.

The action is the biggest strength of the film, just like all recent Marvel movies. It's incredibly fun and exciting to watch.

The humor was pretty good too, although I found that it was a bit over the top and not always used at the best moment, similar to Thor: Dark World.

Marvel also did a relatively good job of developing the characters, considering that this film had even more superheroes than the first Avengers, as well as incorporating lesser superheroes from previous films, like War Machine and The Falcon.

The biggest weakness of the film is the plot. It was far too similar to the first film. For example, it had the "Avenger versus Avenger" fight sequences early in the film, the "Avengers get their ass kicked" segment in the middle, the "trickster" villain who seeks to beat the Avengers by turning them against each other, and the final sequence where the Avengers fight against disposable henchmen, save random people, and defeat the villain. It was all too predictable and got a bit tedious near the end.

The dialogue was also too cheesy at times. Overall, it felt like the events of this film didn't really matter that much, except to set up the story for the third film.

In the end though, we don't watch Marvel superhero movies for deep storytelling or meaning, but for the fun action and witty one-liners. The film was certainly fun to watch so I give it a solid 7/10.

Given how the movie ends, it felt like it was all an experiment to see how well a third movie in the franchise could be if all of the stars decide not to return. I suppose it stands to reason that Iron Man has had three standalone movies to cover that character, and that Hawkeye was completely underutilized in the first movie in the franchise, but I would have appreciated it if they could have found a better balance of screen time for this too huge cast. It really felt like a producer told the writer that they had all of these high priced actors signed on to appear in the thing, so he had better come up with a scene featuring every single one of them, no matter how little it pertained to the plot or was entertaining, “we have exposition to explain, get that former TV actress in there”. I am a longtime fan of the director’ (Joss Whedon), previous work. I suppose he did a good job strictly as a director, as all of the actors put in fine performances, but the dialog and plot were all just very flimsy. Maybe, there was a great move shot, and it was just edited together poorly. Here I go apologizing for Joss, again. I need to stop doing that. I don’t know, but either way, the experience was just not fun. The camera was always zoomed in so close to the actors that I could never keep up with where anyone was within a scene. I theorize that this was because the sets were either very underwhelming or all virtual, so the camera stayed in tight to prevent the audience from noticing. Don’t think that I failed to find any redeeming values in the movie. The gags built around Thor’s hammer were funny, and there was one stand out fight in the first half with the Hulk that had its moments, but you could watch these scenes on YouTube and skip the other two hours. Let’s face it. If you have already seen every other modern Marvel movie, nothing is going to stop you from seeing this one. Just make sure to set your expectations accordingly beforehand. I still have hope that the Avengers franchise can be fun in future installments, but, in my opinion, they did not pull it off with this one.

I felt "Age of Ultron" was kind of a misleading title as it was made to believe that Ultron was supposed to be this ultra convincing villain though I felt that Ultron was somewhat misused and was half as powerful as the Ultron that was in the comics. All the heroes and stars from the previous movies have returned to reprise their rolls and Josh Whedon is in the directors chair. All that mixes fantastically together in a Comedic Action Flick that most fans of the series will adore. Age of Ultron is much, Much more comedic then previous Marvel films, Everyone gets plenty of chessy one liners and there chance to crack a joke or four(especially Tony Stark). It's not a bad thing, But it can take away from the dramatic feel in some scenes or feel a little forced. The story is based around "Ultron" a AI Tony made to help save the world but didn't quite do what Tony wanted and makes life much more difficult for "The Avengers". The premiums of Ultron and his plans is very dark and grim but between the jokes and so many different sub plots happening it takes away from the real threat Ultron is.

All the actors did a stellar job in their rolls and you can tell they get along great with fellow cast mates. Nothing feels off tone or extremely out of place and gives the acting a bit more of a natural feel even Ultron a robot feels human like.James Spader did a phenomenal job voice acting Ultron , some lines sent shivers down my spine.

All that put together "Age Of Ultron" is a extremely entertaining action movie but it feels like the story development took a bit of a backseat and Comedy and Explosions became more of a focus. I hope Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Or Batman Vs Superman will let marvel see what a slightly more dark and serious super hero movie should look like and push them in that direction with the last Avengers movies.

This Avengers sequel was fine, but it is not what I expected in some things, let's begin:
1. First, and I think is one of the worst, the Incomprehensible romance between Bruce and Black Widow, I mean come on, it came up out of nowhere, Why? When??? Black Widow had a few possible romances first, with Hawkeye (which after this, we know it was just a friendship) then with Captain America (this one was really what i thought that could have worked, but, no) And, finally with Mr. Anger, but after all it finished like all the rest. After all this false romances we just lose hope, so that makes me think that this one just was another.
2. Second, this one could be the worst (or close), the ridiculous humor. Recently Marvel movies are known for its hilarious funny little situations, and by put it all together, jokes, action, drama, unpredictability, all in one, that was what made the first Avengers movie so much memorable, but in this sequel it has non of it, at the point of being mostly ridiculous or even sometimes unfunny (sometimes the jokes are funny), but all the "all in one" situations of the first movie (mostly or as good), you will not find them here.
3. The gooffy, Disney villain version of Ultron, this one did disappoint me, Ultron wasn't intimidating or scary like we have come to expect. It's true, Ultron was not dark, even if "dark" is the definition of Ultron itself. It was almost all the time, a gooffy, not worthy villain. And it wasn't the macabre, DARK foe that made life impossible to the Avengers.
4. The story has many holes. We already talk about the worthless relationship of Hulk and Black Widow, or the not fare adaptation of Ultron. But despite that, the story still have many holes, like the poorly limited time of Ultron on screen or the fast moving of the movie that leave us sometimes confused. But probably the worst thing was the fact that a brand-new avenger just died, it leaved me in shock (by the way, the death of quicksilver wasn't so touching, it was cute and sad, but the reaction that I had was being very confused, I mean, he just came here, and he dies?. another thing that bothered me was the post credits scene, it "literally" remakes the scene of the first movie, Marvel also is known for its exciting post credits scene that leaves us with emotion and waiting the next movie. This post credits scene is too short and it just leaves me waiting more.
5. This sequel do not live up to its hype. Really, the trailer was just amazing and exciting, but the movie is not even close. What truly disappointed me was that the trailer seems so epic, I though that it could even be better than the first, mostly because it gave the impression of being a serious movie, by an intimidating Ultron, real human drama, suspense, we all waited that sooner or later it will be a point that the movies will became serious and melodramatic, the trailer said that, but you all know the result. I think that Age of Ultron recycles its predecessor epicness to give a remake of the first movie, but better, and it isn't.

Let's face it, the movie wasn't bad, it was undeniably entertaining, but as a true fan of Marvel's movies this sequel of the avengers wasn't what I waited with so much emotion. Once again the movie was not bad at all, its special effects are amazing and some action scenes are awesome as well, and the performances are undeniably good (by the way, James Spader gave a remarkable voice acting, what I didn't like was the interpretation of Ultron itself) But after all, the movie has many holes, but I have to say that it is in many ways a satisfyingly sequel.

Changing the subject, I give all my hopes in Civil War, that is one of the most EPIC comics and after The Winter Soldier, I hope an excellent movie like it. Don't you???

Everything this movie does was either done better in the first movie or it mostly didn't work at all. The romance between Dr. Banner and Black Widow is so unnecessary that it causes a notable sigh with audiences. Ultron himself is an uninteresting villain. Which that has more to do with the fact that he's an uninspired version of Tony Stark. And while I will say that the story is miss-narration from time to time, but it isn't too hard to follow.

However, the movie itself is fun to watch and does have some things to offer. The scene about Thor's Hammer was great, and you can tell that the actors had fun making the scene. The Iron Man, Hulk fight was the highlight of the movie and the climax doesn't overstay it's welcome. The action is top notch and proves that Marvel still knows how to put together action scenes.

All in all, you will enjoy this movie. But you will also leave it slightly disappointing. The movie doesn't add much to the MCU, but it doesn't ruin what's already been established. It's a fun popcorn movie that you and your friends will enjoy, but ultimately you're going to notice that something was missing. 7/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie was surprisingly long and involved, and did a good job of balancing an enormous cast of interesting characters, many of whom have their own elaborate back stories, as well as some new characters. The movie brings the Avengers together again, with all of their disagreements and disgruntlements with one another--their antagonism produces some solid running gags, such as teasing Captain America for his reaction to swearing. The premise of the movie is interesting, as they're now fighting a villain of Tony Stark's own creation, which tests the bonds between the Avengers. We also see (finally) a Scarlett Johansson romance developing, but with the Hulk, as we simultaneously find out that her friendship with Hawkeye is just that. Their just-friends status is confirmed by the discovery that Hawkeye has a comfortable nuclear family tucked away in a set of woods somewhere for their safety, which makes him a more complex character.

The resolution of the film through the creation of yet another artificial intelligence from Tony Stark is neat, and manages to avoid feeling like a deus ex machina by all the work it takes to get everything worked out. The action scenes leading up to the climax were really well paced, as the action was punctuated by conversations between different characters, and it balanced all their different story lines as well. Another solid Marvel movie, that ends on a nice note of anticipation, already setting up for the next installment.

Nowhere is this more exemplified than with Avengers: Age of Ultron, which feels more like a contractual obligation that an exercise is creativity and storytelling; it ticks all the required boxes, but does so in a less than completely satisfying fashion. Avengers: Age Of Ultron was a fairly entertaining movie with big budget stars and had a fairly intricate storyline. I enjoyed it, even though I do not watch many marvel movies, I felt like it wasn't unique, it had been done before.

The Action was every super hero action movie, nothing that felt like it set itself aside from other movies. However and exception to this action was quicksilver, I felt like I hadn't seen that (quicksilver's) action style. It was unique not being able to see the man who saved many lives throughout the movie and because he moved so fast, you would track where he last was, looking for where he went.

Humour was something I hadn't expected but it was fairly funny, yet again nothing unique about it.

I felt like Ultron came and went to quickly, never exactly developing him as a character very well, which should have been key to making this movie more successful. His name is in the title, but from what I remember he is seen not very often throughout the storyline and the movie dragged on and on for a while.

I will say that he looks badass and Spader did a good job, but there's not much to him. The film, gets sometimes a bit convoluted and confusing with multiple plots and bad guys at the same time and there is a lot of shoehorned in scenes that don't fit at all with the movie just to set up the next MCU installments. It gets messy, boring sometimes with a lot of recycled elements, but overall it is a good movie, you will have fun with it and its worthy of the Marvel quality standard of the recent years. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I originally watched this movie on the 25th of April, as the movie quite early in Australia. However I felt the need to comment and review this film.

Although the movie is quite lengthy (2h 21m), I didn't find myself busting to exit the theatre. But the movie just does not compare to the first Avengers at all. The first film was outstanding. With a significant amount of action that was intense and also brought the audience to the edge of their seats. They did this while still maintaining a good plot as well.

However I feel as if Avengers: Age of Ultron was not able to this. There was just too much going on at once. Halfway through the film, Thor decides to go have a swim in a pond/lake and experiences some flashbacks or something along those lines. Then there is the **** romance between Black Widow and the Hulk which was just cringeworthy. The scenes between those two characters made me want to shove a cone up my anal cavity. I also expected a much better fight between the Avengers and Ultron. I was just disappointed. In-fact, the whole movie was a disappointment to be 100% honest. I did expect better from a Marvel movie, especially the Avengers.

Although I have criticised this film heavily, I still think the movie was average. That is why I am giving it a 7/10. I gave Avengers: Age of Ultron this score as I believe that there were still some good parts in the movie, particularly the opening scene. Additionally, the plot wasn't terrible.

The comedy elements sometimes felt like it was trying too hard and a little cheap. It worked for Buffy, but that was a decade ago and a tv show.

I also still have a hard time with Hulk as a character. He can't be controlled and is dangerous, except when he needs to fight with the Avengers and then he is completely rational and able to follow directions. In the end, the action is fun, but the plot is forgettable.

Avengers: Age of Ultron has three critical issues which makes it a mediocre, superhero summer blockbuster:
1) Way too many characters
2) Too much action
3) Not enough cohesive plot/story
Audiences, both movie-lovers and comic geeks, anticipated a well-written, well-directed, well-developed film that both established a great story and a great installment in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe that interconnected the efforts of talented filmmakers to adapt the many heroes and their adventures from Marvel Comics.
Instead, what we got was a two and a half hour lukewarm superhero action movie that, in many aspects, did not live up to its predecessor. To be fair, the film did have several entertaining moments from its comedy to its thrill, yet given how the movie attempted to stuff itself full of one-dimensional, cameo-esque performances, and how the action scenes made you forget the already miniscule plot, it's no wonder how critics and fanboys disapprove the movie.
Director Joss Whedon intended to make the film an hour longer in order to fit more story with the mass of characters, and that, in retrospect, would have been a good solution to the film's several issues, but be honest, who would go see a superhero blockbuster as long as Lawrence of Arabia? Let's just prey that Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2 is large enough to fit characters from all three phases of the MCU.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Avengers: Age of Ultron is a fine, sometimes boring movie that isn't as good as the original. The beginning was really boring even when it was trying to be cool about the scene in the snow. However, when the 2 hours went by, I began to feel like the movie was getting more like its predecessor and was learning its mistakes. I began to have a feeling towards the characters. There is a sad death at the end which was sad and that scene with hulk vs. iron man was incredible and funny when he kept on punching him on the head. Also, the scene with Thor's hammer is really funny. The acting is great, though I don't recommend seeing it in 3D. I don't really think there is a difference. Go see Mad Max: Fury Road if you haven't!!! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If Ultron is the "son" of Iron Man, he should have had, as in the comics: 1) flying power, jet propulsion, and he should have the ability to shoot deadly beams from his eyes and mouth. 3) His armor should have been at least as resistant as Iron Man's and Captain America shouldn't have been able to chop him to pieces with his shield. All of the above is valid for his army of surrogates. In the film, he was presented a feeble android. The script was in fact adapted loosely from the comic book. 1) Captain America takes his fellow Avengers to a SAFE PLACE. In the film, the safe place is Clint Barton's farm; in the comics, it's the Savage Land. In the film as in the comics, Ultron wants to destroy all human beings 3) In both the comics and the film, Ultron uses the Vision (Jarvis, in the film) to achieve his goal. My main point of criticism is the romance between the Black Widow and the Hulk. In order to make that plausible, Clint Barton has to present his family to the public and we discover that Natasha is his kid's "Aunt", so that gets rid of all former romance between the two. All that was pointless and a loss of time. The Black Widow should have tricked the Hulk to make him do whatever she intended him to do, just as she had tricked Loki the trickster, in the 1st film. That’s her job, after all. Without that, she is useless. Expand

Still, if movies are made for entertaining people, then this definitiely was entertaining and fun to watch. If you want something more complicated and with a complex story, then I suggest something else though. It did have some flaws and weird plot points, but I am giving it a rating of 7, because you can't expect anything complex and with plot twists out of a superhero blockbuster movie - this is a movie that many people go to cinemas to watch on big screen because it has many explosions, action etc. If you make the story complex etc, you'll disappoint those who expect the usual thing, so I guess they just don't want to risk changing anything. This being the 11th Marvel Studio film to date, the excitement and expectations are extremely high. Therefore, this is a film that without a doubt will break records, just like the first one did, and will have huge crowds lining up to see it. All that said this is a film that moviegoers will either leave the theater loving or hating.
Now lets talk about the movie itself. It feels like director Joss Whedon took the entire opening sequence straight out of a comic book. It was well choreographed, giving each character a shot of glory, and filled with great one-liners. The opening sequence alone was worth what I paid for the ticket. The opening focuses on the heroes hunting down the last Hydra base, following the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This sets the plot for the entire film, as Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has a vision of a dark future involving the death of The Avengers. After his dark vision he tries to convince Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) to help him build armor with an artificial intelligence named Ultron. Ultron was supposed to be a relief and a savior for planet earth, but it ended up being a disaster and a threat to society.
I like that the film portrays a lot of the individual character’s personal demons, showing their weaker and more human side. The audience learned about each character’s past a little more, which helped them understand the characters even better.
There were four main characters that stole the show. Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), being one of the best surprises of the entire movie, had some of the best lines of the film and some great character development to say the least. The Vision (Paul Bettany) was a great surprise as well, having great action scenes alongside great dialogue with Ultron. The third character Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), gave us some insight into her dark past, which allowed the audience to obtain more information about who she is and where she comes from. The fourth being Ultron (James Spader) was one of the best Marvel Studios villains since Loki (Tom Hiddleston). He had great dialogue and some pretty good action scenes against The Avengers. James Spader’s voice gave the character great depth and soul, making him a menacing but also humorous villain.
In conclusion, The Avengers: Age of Ultron was a good film worth watching on a big screen, but to my disappointment not what I had expected from them. It left me feeling unimpressed in contrast to my feelings about Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was so well made and enthralling. Over all, despite my mixed feelings, Joss Whedon has still proved that he’s a talented director that can manage whatever task is put in front of him. So, props to Mr. Whedon.

Final Score: 7.9/10

Like the point of the Maximoff twins powers, the Loki´s scepter in Hydra and more. Von Strucker is just a villain that only is killed by Ultron. Ultron is a villain for the kids no like the comics. But if we just ignore that details, is a fun and thrilling movie. Expand

The movie starts off with a frenetic pace and welcomingly slows down in order to provide more depth to certain characters. In this sense, Age of Ultron improves on its predecessor as I found myself far more engaged in the characters both individually and as a group. Whilst most of the dialogue between these characters remains engaging, much of it seems out of place and takes away from the tension. The new characters however, are what make this potentially good film, great. With the additions of Andy Serkis' character, Scarlet Witch, and particularly Vision, the second instalment of the Avengers, despite a similarly cliched ending, provides a great movie going experience. This time it is the ' Ultron ' who take the resposibility of killing the mankind and thus in a way , the global eradication is its objective. While seeing the film , the irony is well understood that this same Ultron was created by ' Stark (Iron Man ) ' unintentionally.Hence the story is about how these Ultron
& co. are defeated by Avengers and save the mankind.

As usual ,' Robert Downey Jr. ' was cool in the character of Iron Man.
'Chris Hemworth ( Thor ) ' has got more screentime in this movie than the predecessor. He performs some light hearted comedies in this sequel.' Scarlett Johanssen ' was also equally charming in her role as ' Black Widow ' .' Hulk ( Mark Ruffalo ) ' rocks as usual. There is even a fight sequence between Iron Man and Hulk. Both 'Captain America ( Chris Evans ) ' and ' Hawk Eye ( Jeremy Renner ) ' has got equally important roles. There are two new additions to the Avengers ,and i think i will leave it up to the viewers to find out who they are.

Joss Whedon ( Director cum script writer ) managed to keep up the expectations of the audiences about this highly anticipated big budget production.Music department has done a good job.Hats off to those who handled the computer graphics and visual effects.

As a whole this movie has its elements to keep the viewers engaged for around two and a half hours.Cliches are the only drawbacks , if any to be pointed out.

My rating : 3.5/5
