Honestly enjoyed this movie way more than I thought. Some of the acting is a bit Ham, but in all it was a great action sci fi flick. Cannot wait for the next part!

Loved it! Salazar is amazing, and the story is truly compelling. The only thing I didn't like about it is the abrupt ending. If you plan to do a sequel, the film itself has to stand on its own. (See: Star Wars)

I really commend director James Cameron and producer Robert Rodriguez for creating a world so futuristic, so colorful, so dangerous and so tech-based that even our era of human species still has yet to create that world. Rosa Salazar does an excellent job giving Alita a story of sadness, naïveté, and understanding who she was meant to be. Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly and Mahershala Ali also do good jobs with their performances as well. Jackie Earle Haley and Ed Skrein make the best they can as the cliched henchman and pirates, but, there are worse things than that may have made me roll my eyes so I don’t mind. The Visual Effects and set design are also cool and detailed as only James Cameron and WETA could make it. My only nitpick is that it left me wanting more, which is good and bad at the same time. I really hope China and Japan help save this movie and make it the success it should be so Disney can have two new franchises from James Cameron with Avatar and Alita. So, yes, I say go see it, the film is worth your time, especially in a big loud IMAX 3D or Dolby format, and I really mean that.

My final rating for Alita: Battle Angel is a 9/10. Or 4.5 stars out of 5. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2.

I have to say that a movie/story, which leaves me disappointed at the end because there is no second installment has to be a good movie in my book.
Sure it wasn't perfect but the world and it's history felt alive which I appreciate a lot.

This film was so much fun. I gave it a 9 out of 10 because I thought that they could have given us more in the story department and because I thought that the ending could have been better.

The visuals in this film were stunning and I loved the character of Iron City. The fight scenes were spectacular, as were the characters/bounty hunters. It really is a beautiful film visually, so yes, I'm impressed.

Problems with the film are that the story could have been more, idk, better. I do understand that when world building there are information dumps that have to happen. If the film makers had taken the time to do these dumps properly, it could have been a more satisfying film. I also wasn't impressed with the ending. You can't just end it like that and not give us another film.

Overall, I do recommend this film and I hope they make another to wrap up the loose ends of this film.

His actual face looks more like Makaku, why'd they make him into a generic russian thug? tearstearstears), and making iron city look somewhat pleasant to live in, I was surprised by how accurately they translated the manga into this film. It felt like I was watching a big budget anime, as opposed to the more commonly horrible, cringy anime adaptations that often happen. Whereas I never want to see another Johansson GITS, I would love for Alita to do well enough to continue her story in a couple more films, as long as they keep staying true to the story's origins. If I weren't such a fan of the original books I might not have been as taken by this film, but they did good, and I'm grateful for the hard work and time and attention to detail. Of course, Salazar's Alita and Waltz' Ido are the shining lights here, besides the amazing effects and cyborg designs and fun action sequences. Worth seeing on the big screen. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alita is an excellent movie. I saw the movie in ICE and this film does not allow me to perceive the ICE technology as a technology that brings value. The Dolby Atmos is occasionally used especially to demonstrate the grandeur of the city or "MotorBowl". Finally a can like "ICE" it is under-exploited. 3D is flat, especially the first scene. A terrifying 3D of nonsense except at 2 moments of the movie .. The technology pushes limits especially at eye level, hairiness and without a doubt in terms of hair and movements. The work of modeling robots is very detailed and especially sublimated by a work of light that is just breathtaking. The moods, the atmosphere of interior and exterior are very developed which makes everything beautiful. I took a slap! The story places us in the hands of a doctor "Ido" who crosses waste dumps rejected by the city from the top. Ido rebuilds the robot that makes it a good little girl. His robotic body is adorned with pretty designs, all caressed by this light. Then Alita becomes a strong woman during her change of armor. Alita emancipates from men and wishes to recover the memory and thus want to go up to the city from the top. So she participates in the MotorBowl which is played only by men. They evolve like a heroine .. From the rebirth to the conquest and can be good for the social rebalance .. The action is very well dosed and especially very well choreographed. The impossible angles of camera are present (thanks to Tech Cameron). But I still lack a lot of elements to judge the story. So far I can say that this story is interesting and I look forward to know more. The most impressive is that Alita becomes as charismatic as a real actor when she is only a 3D representation. For those who are big film fans, this one is a great time to spend with friends! #LoveChristopheWaltz

#LoveChristopheWaltz

At it's core this is a big budget fan film that remains incredibly faithful to the source material which is certain rare in Hollywood. The problem with fan films is that they never speak to film critics the same way as they speak to the target audience. As a result (which you can see in the review scores) you have critics being very "meh" about the film, while the audience tends to lean more towards loving, especially fans of the original Japanese Manga. Here is the thing, before this film I had never heard of Alita in my life. I am a casual anime fan at best, and mostly have a passive appreciation for manga and anime. I went into Alita with no expectations other than maybe hoping it would be fun. When I came out of the movie, I immediately went to Amazon and bought every volume of the Alita manga collection available to me. This film made me a fan. It's fantastic. Alita as a character is so wonderfully done in this film (which translates well from the manga I've been told), and you quickly find yourself able to be in her shoes. Her memory is shot and this world is new to her, just like it is to me having no experience beforehand. While there is a quite a bit of exposition that explains the world, the story itself moves so freely that you understand the world quickly and easily. There are no long winded speeches here about this society versus that society and what's evil and why we don't like this guy or that guy, no the movie manages to weave the story and the backstory together in such a way that it all comes together perfectly. Alita herself is a little beast, Rosa Salazar does a super job at convincing us that she knows how to fight for herself. The visuals are some of the best CG effects ever which bring to life both the beauty and the violence of the world Alita finds herself in. The Villains all bring the film together, while not playing a super large part in the film itself, they do serve their roles very well to act as motivators for what pushes Alita forward towards conflict. The only negative I'd have to say is that the romance in the film is a bit childish. Like a teen film in a lot of ways, but from what I've been told, it is very similar to how the manga portrays Alita's first love. So I can forgive it, especially since the romance doesn't overpower the rest of the film. Like the villains, the romance is just another part of this weaving narrative that brings the movie together. At the end of the day, the film is just freaking fun. It's a great time, and it made me a fan of this world and this character. I want to see more of Alita and I hope this film does well enough for them to make more movies. Expand

Co-writers James Cameron, Laeta Kalogridis, and Robert Rodriguez have interpreted an excellent manga into a live-action anime of the highest calibre. The SJW crowd seems to think that a "strong" female character has to be strong in the literal sense of the word. James Cameron has been writing strong female characters for 30 years now. They aren't strong because of their literal physical attributes or "powers" but in their ability to overcome adversity. Alita is yet another example of a character that is strong (of whatever gender) because she exhibits the true paradigm of a hero - the willingness to sacrifice her own life to protect the people she cares about and/or further the execution of a mission bigger than herself. I love this movie. Here is my review on it

The year is 2563. 300 years after “The Fall” (big war), Iron City is left decimated in a dystopian like society when Alita was found at a scrap pile in a futuristic junk yard. When recovered and put back together with a new cyborg body by Dr. Dyson, she doesn’t remember anything of her past nor recognizes the current world. As the story progresses she finds clues to her identity, past life, where she came from, and what she was born to do. Alita is the advanced teenage cyborg solider who finds her identity and purpose in life through flash backs of her past. She builds a beautiful father-and-daughter relationship with Dr. Dyson and builds a romantic relationship with her boyfriend Hugo. She’s strong and courageous with the love and compassion of a young girl and a beating heart of a warrior. I rooted and cared so much for her throughout the whole movie.

CGI and visuals is breathtaking. Of course they used a lot of actual sets as well throughout the movie. These are the same people that made Avatar with James Cameron so you know it’s going to look great. Alita’s eyes are so very life like. They truly captured the spirit and emotion of Rosa Salazar into Alita with all of the different sensors she wore. Your conscious mind will always be accepting Alita as a human and not a CGI person.

This movie is a true fun and entertaining underdog story with, action, adventure, romance, mystery, and with lots of heart. I love this movie

Rewatchable?: YES!
Would I go to theaters again to see it?: YES!
Was I wanting more when the credits start rolling?: YES!
Forgettable Movie?: NO!
My Rating: 9 out of 10- Had some flaws so it doesn’t get a 10.

A female lead who is complex and interesting. Released less than a month before Captain Marvel

It's not a shock critics are desperately tearing it down.

It's funny, any criticism of Captain Marvel is already being labelled as sexist, so to take a page out of the media's playbook I'm going to just assume that the reason critics hated Alita is because the female lead under the CGI that brings a manga character to life is hispanic.

And apparently they hate female leads and are sexist too.

Hey, they made the rules, not me.

All joking aside the film was fantastic. Alita is a complex character and isn't the cookie-cutter heroine that most film studios shove down our throats today (like Rey from the Disney Star Wars movies). The story is compelling and you want to root for Alita. We keep hearing people act like there have never been good female leads in cinema before in an attempt to overpraise Rey and Captain Marvel but the fact is there have been some amazing ones in the past. And James Cameron gave us one of them in Sarah Conner. And now he and Robert Rodriguez has given us another in Alita.

The action is fantastic. The effects are incredible. The way they can blend a CGI character with real people and not make it jarring is astounding. The budget was well-used. I think Alita could be the stepping stone to how future anime/manga live-action adaptations can be done. The film is fantastic and well worth the price of the ticket. And you don't feel like Alita is shoved down your throat like Rey was in Star Wars. And Alita is not a character who is written where her gender is her entire character (you know, like Rey). Alita is a great character who happens to be female. Other movies that plan to have female leads need to take notes, because this is how Rey could have been written where her gender just happens to be part of who she is vs her entire character.

Having read the manga I can say that this is a worthy adaptation, and it was refreshing. Since the last couple of times Hollywood tried to adapt anime/manga it went over like a lead balloon and you could tell the people making it had no love for the source material, meanwhile you can tell that the love for the source material is what was the driving force behind this movie being made in the first place.

I'm trying to understand why the critics didn't like this one. It had amazing visuals, good plot, good story, and a power female lead. Here are my guesses to why they didn't like it because I don't really get their reviews:
1) They want their heroes to look attractive and not weird 2) They want more humor in their action movies
3) They want a happy ending
4) They can't understand the motivations of the characters
5) They don't enjoy sci-fi action on it's own and require the rest of the content to carry itself
6) Maybe they are anti-violence. This movie was a very violent PG-13
These are some of my guesses. :-/

I went into this movie almost completely blind. I didn't watch/read any reviews or trailers, I only read the summary. I didn't expect the movie to be as good as it was. First things first, the visuals of this movie are absolutely amazing!

It is a really gripping story. Watching Alita experience things for the first time is a delight, the reactions don't feel forced and really come off as someone who experiences something for the very first time. Watching her relationship with dr. Ido grow and develop is also a beautiful thing to watch and also feels very real. This counts for the romance parts as well, it never feels forced, feels real and best of all it's never cringe inducing. In fact the romance scenes are very well done and have really sweet and endearing moments. Alita is clearly very powerful yet she doesn't feel overpowered, having difficulty in certain fights. Can't go into this further without spoiling so I'll just say that the fight scenes are amazing.

The one thing that keeps me from giving it a full 10 are some decisions made at the end that didn't make a lot of sense to me.

---Too long did not read-------

It's definitely worth a watch and if you're a fan of sci-fi you will definitely like this movie.

It is very respectful of the source material and keeps a brisk pace without getting the audience lost. It makes you care about the characters involved and what they have to go through, as well as the suspense of just what Dr. Ido may be doing at night when there is a killer on the loose.

Alita is very well done and very likeable. People can connect with her, despite the cliche use of amnesia. And while there are certainly changes from the original Manga, they do not hurt the film in any way. This movie can stand on its own merits and does so spectacularly.

While people may be a bit put off by Alita's large cartoonish eyes, they do not detract from the film nor are much of a distraction. It's simply another part of her being a cyborg. And there's plenty of crazy cyborgs running around. This is a must-see movie and I would absolutely love to see a sequel.

CGI can be a bit spotty in places but for such an ambitious movie, I'm not going to complain. Loved Alita's characterisation; she brought the comic to life. Salazar brought exactly the right mix of super-tough-warrior and vulnerable girl to make it work. Not sure she's been given enough credit for this as it's harder than you may imagine.

Christppher Waltz also does a great job of Ido. When I heard they'd cast him in the role, my first thought was that he was a bit too old but he pulls it off with aplomb.

Came out of the movie feeling uplifted. Definitely going to add this one to my permanent collection on DVD/Google play

I really liked this movie. Alita is a strong protagonist. She grows, she has faults and her imperfection makes her perfect in my eyes. The fight scenes are fun and pretty well done, I love this movie, I hope others will like it as much as I did.

Having said that, I found myself mesmerized. The movie, visually, is the best kind of eye candy you can have in a movie, and the action was fantastic, to say the least. However, all of that would have fallen short had there not been a great story to go along with it. The characters were mostly fleshed out and Alita's character was extremely relatable. This character should be the poster child of Female Empowerment, and I can't for the life of me tell why Alita isn't being celebrated. To those that say she was overly sexualized I say, you are a moron! There was nothing sexual about this character or anything about this movie that was sexual other than the kiss. She is a female cyborg... please spare me the BS and Political Rhetoric! I hope the success of this movie is a slap in the proverbial face to all its critics. Expand

It had some slight pacing issues, but the it's the best anime adaptation I have seen so far. I hoped that Ghost in the Shell would have been more like this.

There was not a single sliver of fat on this film -- lean, consistently entertaining, and flowed elegantly, leading to a cliffhanger ending arriving far too soon. The performances were on point, particularly from the lead, with her impressively able to convey range and depth right through the CG effects. The love interest's performance was less impressive, but the rest of the supporting cast along with the photography direction, superb editing, excellently shot actions scenes that had me clenching, dying to stand up swinging and cheering, and cursing under my breath at the villains made for a supremely satisfying experience. You can bet I'll be picking this up on blu-ray and keeping an eye on any of Rosa Salazar's future projects. Expand
