For the first Yu-Gi-Oh! videogame for the XBOX, Yu-Gi-Oh! Dawn Of Destiny is a good attempt on Konamis part. But hope and pray, that the next Yu-Gi-Oh! videogame made for the XBOX really lives up to the excellence that most XBOX videogames deliver.
-
The game itself doesnt offer anything more than what you get from the paper card game. But with Dawn Of Destiny, you dont have to spend the cash that it would take to acquire the over 1,000 cards available in the game by hitting up your local card shop.
-
You cannot add cards to your deck without winning them in a long series of duels, so it wouldn't even be useful for trying to run tournaments, other than having people bring their decks on a memory card.
-
Game InformerThe biggest problem is that Dawn of Destiny restricts your freedom like a galactic despot. [June 2004, p.132]
-
Cheat Code CentralAlthough I will admit that the gameplay, which is based on a card collecting game, can be addicting, this game has no good reason to be the Xbox... I've seen better graphics on the PSX for crying out loud.
-
A visually clumsy representation of the card game with an even clumsier and clunkier way to play against another duelist.
-
Just another Yu-Gi-Oh! Game. For fans, that might mean something. The rest of us should give these games a pass.
-
Fans of Yu-Gi-Oh! should probably give this one a rent, then take the change and buy a couple of booster packs; it will immediately become apparent what method of collectible card gaming is more fun.
-
Official Xbox MagazineThe entire point of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise is to incite adolescent jealousy, gamesmanship and spending, and while fans of the series might find something to appreciate in this title, casual gamers will not. Skip it. [June 2004, p.80]
-
One of the biggest problems that I found about Yu-Gi-Oh! Dawn of Destiny was the fact that it lacked online play. This fact just downright boggles the mind! Why would you make a game based on a card game, and then slap a $40 price tag on it and NOT have online play?
-
Aside from being the first version to hit the Xbox, there isn't a whole lot to differentiate The Dawn of Destiny from its predecessors. It's really just a mediocre card battling game.
-
Besides the graphical representation of the monsters during battle this game offers nothing over the actual card game.
-
If you can make head or tail of the multitude of minor rules and spell/trap combinations, or already enjoy the cartoon, check this out. Anyone over 12, dig out that old algebra textbook for some more interesting bafflement.
-
The 3D graphics give a crisp look to the fighters, but the actual battles are too short to fully enjoythough it does move the game along briskly.
