Really fun top down zelda game. The characters look very cute and likeable, and the story is amazing (also a bit heart breaking).

It is an old-fashioned Zelda. It is an amazing game at the level of other Zelda games.
But cannot give them 10 because it is still GameBoy Game on Switch for the price of big games on Switch. Without any addition. I still have GameBoy and Zelda: Awakening and it is better to play it there.
From the story's plot, maybe it was hard to add something new. But I would welcome something more

This was a pretty great game for me and the first one I actually played til the end after buying a Switch this year. Although, it's very challenging to figure out what to do at times so an online guide is needed unless you want to spend a year trying on your own.

    Un juego estéticamente precioso.
Jugabilidad clásica zeldera: ni más, ni menos.
    Buenas mazmorras y jefes finales.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The remake of Link's Awakening is in my opinion even better than the original, which itself is the second best 2D Zelda after A Link to the Past. I really like the artstyle, the soundtrack is Zelda-typically fantastic and the atmosphere fits perfectly. In terms of gameplay, the game hardly differs from the original, which is why old players will already defeat the final boss after a few hours. However, there were a few small improvements, such as the now permanently equipped power bracelet.
However, I would like to mention one disappointment. In Dampé, you can now create dungeons. I was hoping that this would finally be some kind of Zelda maker. But no! You can only string together pre-made segments, and then you can't even share your "own" dungeons over the internet, it only works via Amibo.
Lastly, I wanted to mention that the performance of the game is only acceptable. You regularly notice frame drops and the dynamic resolution is actually always at the minimum. However, this rarely bothered me personally.
Link's Awakening has always been a great game - and the remake makes it even better. It's easy to overlook the aforementioned problems and become engrossed in such an atmospheric world. For around $40, I therefore give it an absolute buy recommendation.

A Link to the Past).

For a classic Zelda game, this is a must play. Growing up playing this style of Zelda you’ll have a great time. Although moments in this game arnt really thought out, it’s clearly just trying to extend play time by putting key story elements behind secret loading zones. But other than that, this game is a really fun Zelda game. And dam near perfect.

The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past". There are a few instances where it can seem a bit cryptic, but that's just the nature of these type of games which were developed before hand-holding became the norm, so I like the added challenge. The story is simple, but zany and thoughtful.

They did a great job with this remake. It looks modern and has modern conveniences but feels and plays old school.

Maybe the price point is about $10 too much. There are some minor technical/performance issues. Also working out what to do or where to go can at times lean towards being a little too obtuse, especially if you gave this to a younger gamer. But it is mostly just a great time.

I've read that this game is almost completely true to the original aside from the visual makeover. So if that's the case I must say I'm impressed at how well it's held up, considering it is originally a 1993 release.

The two last dungeons were surprisingly complex and challenging for a Zelda-game that was originally made for the Gameboy in 1993, I really had to use my brain finishing those two, so that was also impressive.

I'm a bit torn on the graphical style, sometimes I really like it, and other times I wish they went another direction. One thing about it that's a bit bothersome is the blurry effect on the top & bottom screen, I don't know what that's supposed to imitate, but it's slightly annoying.
The frame-rate also dips quite frequently, and it's very noticeable. It isn't game-breaking mind you, but it's hard to understand how Nintendo could let this slip, especially with such a simple art-style.
I guess we'll just have to settle with the fact that the Switch just isn't powerful enough..

In many ways this is classic Zelda at it's finest, with catchy music, an interesting world to explore, and complex dungeouns, but something that kind of ruined the experience for me, was the ending. The thing I like best about the Zelda-franchise, is that the games makes you feel like a hero that is on an important quest to save the world from evil. I didn't necessarily get that here unfortunately.. There are also no memorable characters in the game, so the story feels a bit dated in that regard.

All in all a really fun game, classic Zelda in many regards, but with some disappointments regarding story especially.

I played it only for 1 1/2h right now but i know the original and can say that LA is one of the best 2D Zelda of all time which should definetly not be missed out by zelda fans and those who play to become one

But i have to mention 2 negative aspects: 1. This game is almost a 1 to 1 remake of a gameboy game, which ofc wouldnt be a problem beside the fact that this game costs 60$/€

2.The framerate sadly drops a lot although this game doesnt really look like it should have this problems (but graphics wise this game looks very gorgous)

So for the second problem i can only give this game a 8/10 but if nintendo(or grezzo) fix this problem in the future this game would be easily be a 9/10 at least

Great Zelda classic with a modern twist. The look of this game is really something special. Some of the gameplay does feel a little dated but overall a Zelda classic. There is some frame rate issues but it's not to bad and I usually didn't notice it.

The music is one of the best aspect of the game. There is some 2D Mario references in the game. Nice. I give it 82%. Wonderful game. However Link was left alone on the ocean in the end, and died an atrocious death. His corps was never found. Not serious but they could have closed that ending in a better way. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A nostalgic game, for a nostalgic age.

Growing up on the original Link's Awakening I'm thrilled to bits that it got a remaster.
Overall the changes are quite welcome, though I question why they removed the photo shop in favor of Danpe's dungeon crawl.

Eagle's Tower is still the best dungeon ever designed for the Zelda franchise, and the mapping features make Turtle Rock very simple to navigate.

    Spoiler below:
Though they made a change to the final boss that removes a large amount of the challenge from the fight. For some reason now, instead of roaming around the arena freely, the final boss attempts to stay a certain distance away from THIEF. Which once that's figured out you just stick him in an upper corner and lazily shoot arrows to win. Kinda boring.

An excellent remake, pulsing with charm and innovation in sound engineering and art style, leaving almost everything else intact. The only but, is the new dungeon maker mode, which is surprisingly unpolished. Nothing game breaker of course. A must buy for any Zelda fan or anyone who played and liked the original.

I enjoyed this game but it has several minor issues. For one, I’m not entirely sure why they decided to interrupt gameplay everytime you collect a power up. Mario doesn’t halt his momentum whenever he grabs a mushroom or star power. I like the idea behind the power ups but I found myself avoiding them most of the time for this reason. Another problem was the jumping felt very clunky.I enjoyed this game but it has several minor issues. I like the idea behind the power ups but I found myself avoiding them most of the time for this reason. Another problem was the jumping felt very clunky. There was a point in the game after acquiring the Pegasus boots where I jumped onto an island and couldn’t get back! Thankfully I found a YouTube video to get me back on land but that is not something I ever experienced in a Zelda game before. I also noticed the frame rate would dip whenever I left a house.

On a positive note, I really enjoyed the game’s dungeons. Eagles tower in particular was a really fun dungeon to solve and the puzzles in Turtle Rock left me scratching my head a few times as well. The game looks and feels very charming just like the Zelda franchise is known for. The dungeon creation tool was a neat concept that added an extra layer of gameplay to an otherwise pretty short game.

So in conclusion, I would suggest waiting a few months for the game to come on sale before buying it and perhaps Nintendo will fix some of the issues between now and then. Thanks for reading.

Link's Awakening's remake is a good game with a lot of interesting tweaks to set it apart from the original. I just don't feel it is as great as it once was. Like I'd rather be playing A Link to the Past than this. Link's Awakening was a fantastic game for its system, I just didn't need a remake of it for $60, the same price that I can get better games for the same price.

I can't recommend this game enough for Zelda fans and people who aren't as familiar with the games (like myself - this is only the third Zelda game I've played and my first 2D Zelda game)>

The only criticism I have for the game is the frame rate issues which can usually arise when you come out of a building. It only lasts for a second or two but a big budget AAA game like this shouldn't even have this to begin with.

The Bad: Performance when moving into new areas frames drop significantly, the create your own dungeons feature is lacklustre and clunky, basically nothing at all differs from the original game (nothing new added), price should be lower.

Other notes: This is probably one of the more 'out-there' 2D Zelda's that you can play, whether you play this version or the previous versions on the Game Boy. I had a blast playing this game, The plot twist about half way into the game is also quite unexpected. I'd say the real gripe I have with this game is the price: $69 AUD was the least expensive I found and for essentially an old game, that is way too much. The new Resident Evil 2 game at least justified the price by adding more content to the game, and providing a new over the shoulder take on the old game. Links Awakening is the exact same game, with basically nothing new added apart from the dungeon maker and quality of life elements. Still - especially if you have never played the game - it is still is so much fun, and I couldn't stop smiling as I played it.

Yes, the overworld's edges are blurry, but after the first five minutes of play, I stopped noticing it. Yes it's a short game (I beat it in fifteen hours and it was my first time playing the game), but it's meant to be a separate experience from BOTW. It compliments BOTW well. While it doesn't have the depth in gameplay or customization as BOTW, it has a memorable soundtrack and compelling characters that BOTW lacks. The sounds in Link's awakening are surprisingly satisfying--I don't recall ever enjoying hitting moblins as much as I did in this game.

I would not want more games like this even though I'm a huge Zelda fan. I enjoyed Grezzo's work, but I've heard people asking for Game Boy Color games to be remade into these graphics. While I wouldn't be averse to having ports of those games to the Switch, I'd sooner have a new handheld-based Zelda game because of the price of the game.

Again, it's a fun game and I would recommend it.

Well done remake of the 93 links awakening. The only problem I have with the game is the frame rate drops that happen quite often. When you're in the dungeons it's not as bad, but when you're in the open world it can be very annoying. Aside from that it feels nostalgic of the old Zelda Gameboy games and has a great dungeon builder if you are into that.

The gameplay of this game is honestly SO much better than on Game Boy, the idea of going back and forth between items works so much better on Switch, but I wish they used more buttons than they actually do, ZR and R do the same thing as an example, but it's way better than the original. However, the animations weren't really updated as well as I would hope Link's turning, and some of the weapon animations make this feel more like a GBC game than a Switch game

Color-wise though... this game is gorgeous everything pops and the 2 or 3 cutscenes in the game are AMAZING, I also appreciate that the frame rate is "mostly" stable which is good, and hearts/rupees come at a fair enough rate in the game, be prepared for the normal lawn mowing in Zelda games

Finally, the puzzles are pretty good, but definitely feel outdated, some of these puzzles involve a lot of backtracking and a lot of sorta cryptic stuff, especially in levels 3 and 7, I like the camera angles, and some of the puzzles are super clever, but others annoy me tbh

So yeah I think 8/10 is fair, the gameplay is good, the colors are great, and the puzzles feel like the early 90s again, I like the Remake it could've been better, but also could've been worse

A cute and friendly remake of the small Gameboy classic that still sings with its classic Zelda gameplay and bizarre story setup, but not worth full price.

I never played the original Link's Awakening, but have enjoyed several of the newer LoZ titles (BotW, Twilight Princess, A Link to the Past, Skyword Sword, Wind Waker & Phantom Hourglass) and I felt like this game fit right in with these beautiful titles. I'm sort of glad I didn't play the original because people seem to be bitter and letting nostalgia get in the way of enjoying this as it's own entity. I will note like others have mentioned that this game is quite short, which does suck with the price tag for this title, but that might be my largest complaint.

I absolutely adored the graphics for this game. They fully delighted me. They have almost a "plastic" quality to them, but in a way that makes it feel like a physical toy that's moving around within a tiny toy world on your screen. The characters and creatures were absolutely charming in design. I had no issues with framerates when playing, but I did play most of this game handheld.

The gameplay was fun! Yes, things are a little slow until you start unlocking abilities, but that makes sense to me in the scheme of the game. It makes unlocking new abilities satisfying. Some of the puzzles are a bit difficult and I did have to visit some guides but I personally kind of enjoy that! The boss battles were almost all super fun!

Most of all I enjoyed the story. It was charming and delightful. The end left me smiling and that's awesome.

My other main issue aside from the price tag is that I don't really have a draw to go back and sink more time into it now that it's over and that's kind of a shame.

Overall I would definitely recommend this game. Especially if you can catch it on sale.

Graphic is cute. Would be a great game at $30. And some puzzle may be too difficult.

As I haven't played the original game, I won't be comparing both versions.

Link's Awakening was a very fun 2D LoZ adventure. It has a very cutesy aura and gives a feeling of nostalgia. While gameplay feels like playing a classic, the controls are smooth. In terms of story, it certainly does not deliver the 'greatest' or most 'epic' Link's adventure. It simply puts Link on an island and your objective is to get out. Along the way, you even ask if this island really exists or is just a dream so it's simple but a bit complex at the same time. Not an epic story, but it's fitting.

I have just 2 main complaints about this entry. The first being the absence of Princess Zelda. She's my favorite character in the series and a LoZ game never feels complete to me without her. But I understand why she has no place here. I'm not a fan-boy to look at that as a flaw. The second and last issue is the framerate. I'm generally someone who tends to avoid talking about minor technical problems but the Switch is a great system and I rarely find fps problems while playing it. It feels odd that a first-party Nintendo title has such a problem.

Overall, this remake is a success. It keeps a nostalgic feel but the visual improvements make it feel extremely fresh. There are people who complain about the game being too short, but this lasted me around 15 hours and then there's also some additional content and even a hard mode to experience. I'd say it has more than enough content to justify its price.

Grezzo and Nintendo have made a great job remaking this game from the ground up. Beautiful art style and improved a lot of the originals problems

I can only hope that its sales success will lead to a patch that fixes the framerate dips, and more importantly, the development of more Zelda games in this style. [Issue #43 – November/December 2019, p. 10SH]

If you need a nostalgia trip or haven’t played Link’s Awakening before, then you won’t be disappointed with this release. Just note that it is a bit more bite-sized when compared to more recent entries in the series.

Awakening’s world is much smaller than Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule. But within the island’s depths lies something that was missing from the last game – eight difficult, multi-layered dungeons, each with its own theme, traps and puzzles. [Issue#241, p.66]
