The Grand Theft Auto games for the Playstation 2 were all flawed masterpieces. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about this new mini version. First of all, the controls have been made even worse--partly because of the ridiculous analog pad, and partly because the controls are even more unresponsive and troublesome than before. This might be excusable if they were able to bring the gamplay to the small screen intact, but that's just not the case. Sure, the mindless violence is here, and you'll have fun for a while messing around in Liberty City, but the game is more limited and the missions blander. Not only that, but it's also more uneven. some parts are too hard and many too easy. Expand

Proves once and for all that any version of a 3D Grand Theft Auto will get high score no matter how flawed.. I find it hard to believe that none of the problems have been fixed from previous games : ( They should have made a new, smaller city and focused on mayhem, not story and made the characters control better. This is just a rehash to make money and I'm ashamed to have bought it.

They need dual analogs. The whole series was built around it, so you can't just port it to a system that doesn't let you use two analog sticks.

Hmm, I'm glad to see the reviewers who waited to post their reviews (AKA, those who actually spent some time with it...) are giving some more realistic marks to this mediocre game. Of my 12 PSP games, I actually play this one the least, and it's one of the reasons I bought the PSP. Look past the graphics and you'll see a game that suffers from floaty gameplay and a boring story.

I've been playing for a few days and there are like 3 missions that I liked, the rest are really bad. and what's up with the battery life? sony needs to release a better battery if they're going to keep making games like this.

People seem to be giving this game good reviews because it's a handheld game. but if rockstar wants us to think its as good as the console versions, then im going to judge it like a console game. The controls are bad. Really bad. And there aren't enough good missions.

The "free roming" aspects are toned down. this game is good to pick up and play for a few minutes to play through a mission or two. You'll get bored with it after a few days, though. I sure did.

An immeasurably clumsy, glitchy mess of a videogame. Persistance is necessary; I found it hard to fight the urge to turn this off for a very long time. And then I did. Don't believe the hype, kids. This sucks.

Wow, the "pros" really overrated this one. Everyone I know who is a GTA fan has already gone back to San Andreas. The controls are terrible! this one is like a bad ripoff game, Its not even made by the same folks who made the GTA games. If this didn't have the Grand Theft name nobody would buy it. I'm ashamed I did. GOod thing gamestop gave me lots of money for it. I'll put it towards Legend of Heroes, which should be sweeet.

Let's get one thing out of the way...this aint the GTA you are used to. Liberty Citry Stories means well, but it just doesn't FEEL like the other games. You are limited in playing "cops n robbers" like in the older games, so all you have to do after a while is do the missions, which have bad writing and bad controls.

Battery life isn't really an issue. For less than 20 quid i got a replacement battery (as well as other stuff) and the game lasts nearly 4 hours with it. Even newer batteries with (supposedly) twice the capacity again are available. Battery life is no more of an issue with this than with most other PSP games

Finally, missions are not up to the standard of GTA3 never mind its successors. Quick and boring.

Overall. Dissapointing. MAybe I would think better of it if it wasn't GTA. But my expactations certainly have not been met (and they were realistic - i know the PSP isn't going to complete with my £1800 PC and San Andreas, or even the PS2) - but to fall this far short is not what I was expecting

This decent, open-ended game is utterly ruined by controls that are just below passable. If you struggled with the controls of the console games, watch out, this one's ten times worse. The analog stick (or whatever it is) isn't up to the task of controling running and driving. They tried to fix the aiming, but it's kinda wonky.

A watered-down version of the popular franchise. Liberty City Stories gets all the small things right, but leaves out the fun. 1. As a value proposition, there's nothing on PSP that comes close. It's a gigantic game; the core gameplay will probably take you 40 or 50 hours to get through, and it has 33 additional "games" that have the potential to occupy you another five or even 10 hours, if you really want to push it.
  2. Although flawed, Liberty City Stories is a remarkable achievement; it shames the efforts that many other developers have put into their PSP games.

While rough around the edges, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories offers a deep, console-like GTA experience. There's so much to see and do that finishing the main story portion leaves around 60% of the game to experience.
