Amazing graphics, really good gameplay, however the game did not go in to detail about Nemesis and other story based questions we have after the end of the base game. And for good measure, the people that where oblivious about Aloy being gay/lesbian you guys are delusional. This was already obvious in the first game. I couldn’t care less what a person or for that matter a game character their sexual orientation is. Just enjoy the game and don't bring societal matters in gaming. Everything from graphics, content, enemies, side quests, the amazing mocap and voice acting, to being able to see a badass woman fall in love with another badass woman and be represented in games this way, is what makes this series the best series I have ever played.     The quality of this videogame is BREATHTAKING. The Burning Shores storyline brings Forbidden West a lot of new amazing shades. The entire DLC is a beautiful journey that leads us into Horizon 3, which has been confirmed. Good luck Guerrilla and congrats! Nicola from Italy.

    Worth buying! Graphics are amazing and even better than the original Forbidden West release. The LA world is surprisingly packed with an emmense amount of variety making it interesting to explore. It seems people are review bombing this game because some people don't like that Eloy ends up having a romantic connection with a newly introduced female character. I think if it was unnecessarily put in I would understand the blowback, but I don't think it is. Therefore I really think the negative reviews seem childish and bigoted which is too bad. I recommend ignoring the spam negative reviews. The new character is really likable in my opinion. I actually like the new character more than Eloy lol. Also there are parts of the combat and puzzles that require co op which I believe also gives insight into what part 3 could be like which I think would be a great direction for the gameplay.

    And finally the new weapons are really cool with one in particular that is like a Zenith futuristic gun which makes the gameplay interesting and gives insight into aspects of that part 3 could be like and include. The final several boss fight sequences are amazing. 10. Loved it!    … Expand

Listen I'd really give it more like a nine bc I do love it very much but there are just some little things here and there that I'd have loved if they were different. However, some people have taken it upon themselves to be awful and thus, I'm rating it a ten bc my god how could you not see that couple developing. Also I'm 100% here for it and I'm so glad Aloy is the queer icon we always knew she was. (Btw she's also clearly autistic but that's not a word they have in the machine dino future I don't think.)

About Aloy's history, I gotta say that although I'm hetero, I can't negate my sadness for sexualizing Aloy. If Aloy is gay or not it doesn't care for me, I love her. I liked her more when she wasn't a sexualized character, this is a videogame, not a romance game where sex is the principle existing reason where you need to treat this theme imho. I think this is an error for me, but I don't discuss narrative director choices, I can only value in a balanced way, without toxic rhetoric.
    Said this, I won't be influenced just for this, like many did. This dlc is fantastic, the love and care putted from the team is unbelievable. Thanks Guerrilla, if you read this I hope you consider the opinion even of the people that love Aloy, in any case ❤    … Expand

    after reading all the comments here that are upset about a kiss, i bought the Game+DLC yesterday and i'm thrilled :D

    story, side quests, enemies, open world, all in all a really successful package ;)
    (and if i didn't have to work so much, i would play the game nonstop ;) )

The landscapes are beautiful as usual and the new machines are a fun challenge! The story is also brilliant, from the emotional side quest with Gildun to the amazing Horus battle, it's just a shame so many people seem to be so fervently unhappu with the idea of gay people simply existing that they would leave such frankly horrible reviews. Hopefully they don't put people off from enjoying this great DLC :)… Expand

    I really enjoyed the new Storyline with Seyka, she and Aloy are having a really nice and Just wholesome Lovestory within you can enjoy every moment because of the great acting skills of both actresses. The new Zenith played by Sam Witwer was great, i am just a little sad he had not that much screentime. At the end i can say i had a very nice time playing this DLC, i would definitly buyI really enjoyed the new Storyline with Seyka, she and Aloy are having a really nice and Just wholesome Lovestory within you can enjoy every moment because of the great acting skills of both actresses.     This DLC was awesome, it added to the world, the boss battle was cool, do I wish it was longer, yeah but I could say the same for any game I love to play. It was fun to play, I enjoyed the relationships created, LOVED the easter eggs. why are people salty the MC is confirmed gay, dudes, you didn't see it in game one?     I don't like to write my opinion on something in the internet but I feel sorry for the people who review bomb the game which actually doesn't deserve that. Guys, the game gives you a choose to decide what Aloy should do, so it's up to you entirely. Another topic is that the expansion doesn't continue the story. It's not true completely. If you follow the story to the end, the DLC gives youI don't like to write my opinion on something in the internet but I feel sorry for the people who review bomb the game which actually doesn't deserve that.     Absolute masterpiece and the best looking game with open world ever, Guerrilla game studio once again demonstrated how good their Decima engine is. The last boss fight gave me a goosebumps. Nicely done. Looking forward to the third part of this outstanding game.

A lot of little Easter eggs to find across the map. I think it’s getting a lot of backlash for the romantic option in the game. It wasn’t something I was expecting upon starting it, but wow did I love it. Everyone has their opinions, but I have always seen Aloy as queer from the start. I think Guerrilla Games (intentionally or not) coded her that way from the start so it was not at all surprising. Aloy’s story is beautiful and to see her progression from HZD to now, opening up to new people and making friends, realizing she can have and experience real emotions. It’s all so amazing.… Expand

The fights were thrilling and demanding, even with the lack of new enemies. And, as known for the Horizon Games, Burning Shores played in an absolutely breathtaking environment.

    I was very surprised to see that the DLC included a romance for Aloy, especially because the previous games didn't pursue any such content for her, nor did she show any profound interest in past characters.
    However, I was very happy to see her sharing a romantic interest with someone.
    The romance is told discreetly and doesn't feel forced. It could've just been a little more story.

    I can't see reason why so many people are upset about a shared kiss between Aloy and her new found "partner", especially because the game allows it's players to decide.
    If you don't want Aloy to commit to a romantic relationship, then don't. It's as simple as that. Either way from what you choose, Aloy will still make it pretty clear that she doesn't have the time for personal feelings.

    It is very immature and disrespectful to review bomb such an incredible and underrated video game. I am truly disappointed in the player-base and never would've thought of how intolerant people still are in 2023.

    All in all, Burning Shores is a stunning addition to the second game: Horizon Forbidden West. I enjoyed the time that I had with this DLC and can't wait to see where the third game gets us.    … Expand

    the story is good and sets up the next game well. the main focus is on the new companion Seyka and her tribe. I felt like there needed to be more side quests I only found 3, and the world felt kind of empty due to it. game play is solid I recommend having some good gear before starting the quest line.

    the game is fine. Is the prologe of the eventual third part of an horizon saga. The final boss is pretty nice, the PS5 only improvement of the enviroment is so good, that is breathtaking the animatures. I recommend and for 20 boxes is good deal. you wont regret

New weapons and mount, cool moves, new machines. Plus a little romance if you choose it. I hope they keep this trend going! BioWare was so successful with their combat/romance combinations. I'd love to see more of that in HFW. The boss wasGreat DLC, I really enjoyed it. With the addition of a fighting companion for much it, it really made it fun. Yet you still got plenty of alone time.     For a $20 DLC, this is a must buy for everyone who owns a PS5 and is a fan of the Horizon series.

    With this DLC, the developers also featured some very welcomed QoL additions (removing pick up animation), several accessibility options such as thalassophobia mode, adjustable HUD, color blind mode, just to add a few.

    They add an interesting story that can be dispensable from the main game. I really liked the mapping since it is very different from the areas visited in Forbidden west.

    I have found more bugs than in the original game but some combats have amazed me and the story is an 8

    The burning shores DLC adds a nice new region to the game with really interesting landscape features and even new ridable machines. The story works great as a development for Aloy, sadly the story of the DLC itself does not add too much to the main story of the game.     If instead you are mature enough that your self-esteem can survive this :) this DLC really is more of the same with better graphics. So if you enjoyed "Forbidden West" you will enjoy this too.

    The only negative point (why this is only an eight, not a ten): It is way too short. You can do some stuff after the main content ends (including new overrides), but I still hoped to get more out of it.    … Expand

Having the flying mount is great to get around. The combat is still strong & there are challenging machines. The last boss battle is really satisfying. I ended up kissing Seyka but then had to say goodbye. I really wished Aloy would stay there with the tribe or take Seyka with her on her future journey. There is an epilogue that will lead to Horizon 3. Unfortunately Sylens won’t be there as Lance Reddick just died recently. Overall, I highly recommend this expansion and I'd definitely play it again!… Expand

If you dont think lgbtq+ should be shown in movies art or life, then your opinion is worthless. The game is fun the melee combat is the only weakness, but that is not the style the game is best at.     This is a fantastic expansion to a fantastic game. Most likely the most impressive technological feat in gaming history and done on old hardware. Yep, the PS5 is old hardware. Snappy controls, graphics, animations, and scale. Wow Guerilla, you guys are freaking amazing.

    Beautiful and immersive. The setting of the Burning Shores has high production values. I really like the saturated colors of the Horizon series as well as Music and Sound. The action is jaw dropping. The use of the Dualsense is excellent. German localization is solid as well. Burning Shores is even more icing on the Forbidden West cake.

    It was pretty good DLC, but I had higher hopes. I was hoping for more new machines than the two or three they added, there were parts of the map that were pretty barren, and I wasn't too impressed with the small enhancements to the skill trees. However, it was more great gameplay from the base game, one good new enemy, and a great boss fight.

What disappointed me was not enough side quests. They could have added at least 5 more and it would be absolutely brilliant. For £17.00 it was still fine as the ticket for Imax costs pretty much the same.... This was a DLC not a full game, people need to understand it but I partially blame Guerilla for overhyping it. They could have stated hey here is 3 hours long main story line and 3 side quests, few collectibles and view points and one new cauldron ... its $20 go have fun.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Clearly, there's something in common among most of these negative reviews, and it's kind of weird honestly. Historically, Aloy has shown little to no romantic interest in the people who have had interest in her, both men and women, because any form of romantic attraction is not to attraction to everyone of a given gender. Anyway... Gameplay was good. I only have two complaints, and neither resulted in a negative gaming experience: The first is that there weren't a whole lot of new machines. 2.5 essentially, between the Stingspawn (.5), the Bilegut, and the Waterwing. It's not much worse than Frozen Wilds in that regard, though. The other was that it felt a little short. I believe this is because unlike Frozen Wilds, this game spent little time focusing on the larger story (Nemesis). Frozen Wilds spent a large portion of its story focused on the larger Gaia story by way of the Hephaestus Daemon and CYAN. We still just vaguely know of Nemesis by name and that it scares the Zeniths.

    Previously we met the Quen in San Francisco and they were an interesting dig at the world of business. Burning Shores expands on them by showing that they're not a monolith, that there are differences in views and ideologies, and that one can do what's right even if it runs contrary to society. There are characters who fall under the sway of a cult as well.

    The final battle felt epic - it goes from one stage to another well, and aside from how long it took to swim from one place to another at one point, the pace was good. In the end, taking down the Zenith felt good.

    Some of these reviewers should take their own advice and focus on the story (>95% of which focuses on the Zenith plotline, helping people, taking down machines, and a little bit about Nemesis, and a mere    … Expand

    Theyre fine with Elizabeth being gay in the first game because they can ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist. When Aloy is gay it's suddenly an issue.

    Incredible dlc. The graphics and performance were so impressive. The story was so much fun I hope we see some of the characters return. As is usually the case when there is a character that isn’t straight it gets review bombed. Just ignore these irrelevant fossils as they will soon be left behind. There’s no stopping horizon

    This DLC is everything you need if you enjoyed the main game.
    There is a cool new weapon and a nice little story. The DLC looks amazing and is pushing the graphics to next-gen level.

    I don't understand the hate for the DLC - it is based on ONE tiny decision at the end of the story. You can also chose if you want Aloy to .... or not. Some people should really stop crying about it.

    Burning Shores continues the artfully told world of Forbidden West. The graphics and character development continue to be top-notch. Plenty of quests, side quests, errands and collectables. Always eager for more Horizon content; can't wait for Horizon 3.

Though maybe not A LOT more; other than the new main quest (which I did find satisfying in both length and content) there's like... 3 side quests? Maybe 3.5 if you also count the new collectibles. Don't remember how many side quests Frozen Wilds had but I feel like it was more than 3. But regardless, even if it's (maybe) smaller than Frozen Wilds, it IS big enough to be worth spending $20 on, so go ahead and open up that metaphorical wallet.

    The romance option you probably know about by now WILL make you wonder, "Why not Ikrie?" And there is something in common between Aloy and Seyka that isn't there between Aloy and Ikrie (or Aloy and Talanah if that's your thing), and that's the whole "risking your life for your people's survival even though they maybe don't deserve it" thing. Also, Seyka just... sticks around for a while. Maybe if Ikrie had stayed on to fight Hephaestus instead of quickly bugging off to invent her own hunting games, she could be the one getting Aloy kisses.    … Expand

    Ein DLC, das mit der Liebe gemacht wurde die echte Fans von ihm erwarten. Es macht die gleichen Dinge gut wie das Hauptspiel, und katapultiert das Spiel auf eine noch höhere Ebene, bei den Neuerungen. Ein Vorgeschmack auf den dritten Teil und der Hunger ist geweckt!

Spent around 20 hours in DLC. It was really nice to meet Gildun again, nice guy! I would like to see "Extreme difficulty" in this game because "Hard" - in not enough for me.     Managed to even look better in the dlc than it did in Forbidden West, and that was already on a superior level. A beautiful continuation with a better storyline and epic boss battle worthy of a dlc. Loved every minute of it.

    Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is visually the best game I have ever played, and in terms of gameplay, it is enjoyable for me, although it may not be for everyone. But the story is the biggest weakness of the game, and I don’t think the story will be great in Someone’s opinion and it may just be the difference between those who say it’s mid and those who say it’s bad. But in different ways, this game completely shows off the power of the 9th generation console.

    Burning Shores is definitely worth a visit. The story builds nicely, the side quests have nice depth, and Aloy and Seyka may end up forming something more than just a friendship. The question is whether a little more content could have been added. After all, it's all stuff we've seen before. [Issue#327]
