This game is an idiot test. Pay $70, unplayable if your internet goes down and the primary game design is to entice you to spend even more than your $70 investment. Don't support this type of development

It’s got like 30% of the content I’d expect for the price I paid for the game. Everything else I like about the game. Graphics are great the driving feels great. So unless they add a huge single player content update its a very big don’t buy from me. It’ll be the last GT game I’ll ever buy.

Edit after patch 1.13. I gave this a 1 out of 10 I hoped to change that after the latest patch. But

Edit after patch 1.13. I gave this a 1 out of 10 I hoped to change that after the latest patch. But adding 3 cars and a new layout for a track just don’t even come close to what I expected. I pre ordered thinking there was a career progression and the cafe was just some extra content. Until they add a career which I can’t see how they could now. It’s a big fat zero out of ten for me and a major do not buy.

This is Gran Turismo. The gameplay, control, depth, roster, most of the things we expect from the GT series. The game would have a much higher score, had it not been for some horrendous decisions made by Polyphony.

I will start with the biggest issue, and the most common complaint. This game is designed with microtransactions in mind. They did not add these microtransactions as an after thought, or as a way to make it easier to obtain other vehicles, they designed the entire economy around them. The reward payout is a bit lack luster. The fact that they don't let you buy the cars directly, but only sell credits (and the cost is insane if you want the higher priced cars) really shows their true intention. But the biggest drawback, is selling your unused cars. This was one of they most common ways to earn credits in most other GT games. However, you cannot earn credits by selling in this iteration. Why did they remove this? Simple, to push users towards buying those credit packs.
Side note: Polyphony even took the servers offline and cut the rewards drastically shortly after launch. They got flamed hard for that. They have since given most players 1m credits, but that doesn't go far when getting higher end cars.

Soundtrack. I have always enjoyed the soundtracks from previous iterations of GT. GT7 however, didn't even have the soundtrack as an after-thought. Yes, we can play apps like Spotify in the background, however I would have enjoyed it much more if they were to have at least put some good songs to listen to in the game. Using a music app in the background really doesn't feel the same to me.

The visuals are great, for the most part. Again, it seems like Polyphony decided to half-ass some of the special effects. Mainly, the rain. Playing in 3rd person perspective, i wouldn't really be able to tell it was raining had it not been for the wet tracks and sound effects. It doesn't look like it is raining at all. The raindrop effects on the windshield were also half-assed. They do realistically move as you drive, and the wiper effects are dismal. Driving through puddles, the water splashes are absolutely pathetic. I have seen better splash effects on the PS2. Polyphony really did not put any effort into the water effects visually.

How to fix this and make this the absolute driving simulator we all know it should be?
    1. Fix the economy. Let us sell these vehicles to earn more credits. The microtransactions should not feel forced. I personally would have no problem buying them here and there, to show support, however you built the in-game economy around these transactions.

2.Work on the weather effects. Polyphony has never really been one to cut any corners, however you have cut several corners here, and games from previous generations really put GT7, even on PS5, to shame in the rain department.

3.Some licensed music would be great. This is the least critical area in my eyes (and ears), however is something that should be given some attention.

GT7 was marketed as "The return to our roots" release. The true driving simulator. Well, part of driving is buying the cars, customizing cars, driving cars, and selling cars. You have taken that last part of a driving simulator away from is in order to pursue greedy intentions (microtransactions). These three areas I think would really make Gran Turismo 7 the king once again. At least fixing the economy and rain effects.

Roulette Tickets are a joke, pay out is still low, and now it’s gold or Bronze I can remember every other GT game grading on a scale 8/10 golds and the other 2 being silver would still give you the gold prize. You know I bought my PS5 strictly for this game but now that this game is Trash I’m selling my PS5 and I’m going PC and switching to the plethora of different racing games there.

Worst GT. Should be called GT Sport+. Prices are absurd, grind is ridiculous, weather/radar system is a joke, physics aren’t great, penalties still broken, engine swap system is trash, daily rewards are fixed.. It’s ok in the dry, though..

This game is supposed to be the "The Real Driving Simulator", but it is way far from that. Then the updates came, and driving was a bit better until the 1.13 patch came, which ruined it from any aspect of driving. I played many simulators and no one is as bad as this one. It is so frustrating to know that they could make this game work well, but they simply didn't. It is no use for a game like this to look so beautiful if driving is so awful. I have never met a game in which a RWD car would act like a FWD (GR3 cars after update 1.13).
Also, one bad thing is that PD made this game work really good for controller users, but they didn't adapt driving for wheel users.
I played this game from the release and I regret spending so much money on a game that was released way too soon when it had so many problems and many of them are still present today.
I really hope they will fix it, but I doubt it. I say this because PD seems to want to sell more than giving a good game, which might be hard to play, but please the real enthusiasts of real driving, not this arcade nonsense. It is far away from how good and stable was GT Sport. It is a shame that this game is so great in all aspects other than driving.

Just asked for a refund. Not many cars either, you need to pay everything and there’s not even freedom to do whatever you want within doing the cafe thing.. An ok-ish career mode. There's no fomo because they cycle the same events so you can earn your car after grinding. In gt you can't even earn 1 car in the time it takes to earn one in Asphalt Legends

There's not enough events and the way the events is organized is like all over the places. Back then the events where organized in specific type of races. Like you go an event for FF challenge and see the races and tracks. Now you go to tracks and see events, which is badly designed. I thought the cafe was for mini challenges like coffee break in GT4 and not for the main gameplay. -Car prizes is rather meaningless. Back then you get excited to see what car you have unlocked cause some of them were not purchasable or hidden. Now car prizes is reduced and rewards are money instead of getting car prize. This design of this game, unfortunately, is collecting money and go buy a car. Which make you feel this game has no soul or fun like how it was. Back then, like the first 4 gran turismo games, the cars where customized by PD and made them available as prize cars. I wish they can make an event with initial D's car as a prize car instead of throwing it in dealership and make it available for purchase. -Even though musics are awesome, but they are reused. I wish they add more new cool musics and in race musics like how they used to do.
-This game is seriously need to be fixed to be great again. I think no one would see this review and care

For those who paid 80€ for this, this is unacceptable. In the future, when the game is discontinued and this issue is not resolved, you are basically left with nothing. The time and money you invested into playing this game will be competely wasted.

Even worse thing is that the game itself is not bad, in fact it's one of the best racers I've ever played. It's a real shame that developers are willing to kill their game, which they put countless of hours into making, just for some extra money when they force people to buy their next new game. These practices are killing gaming industry as a whole, that's why I gave this game such a low rating.

On the release date, I was able to drive a bit and play the game.

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
