This is a game I have been waiting an entire console generation for, and to be brief - I am disappointed.

The single player is lackluster, its missing core features like GT league or Cups/Championships. There aren't enough ways to engage with the single player, it's all rolling start races which takes all the fun out of racing. The multiplayer is embarrassingly bad, which has me worried

The multiplayer is embarrassingly bad, which has me worried for this games future.

The physics and customization are 10/10 though. This is where the game shines, the tracks & cars are pretty much perfectly modeled and the driving itself is quite punishing (in a good way). The game also does a great job on teaching you how to be a better driver.

Overall a massive letdown for a game that was advertised as being the ultimate gran turismo experience. Feels more like a glorified $30 game.

Now a week or so after release they patch the already grindy payouts to force you into purchasing credits with real world money (it even reminds you that you can EVERY time you get any credits added to your total) and mess the update up so much that the game has been offline for a while now so I can't even play it!

I hate to have to say this but please avoid this game in its current state, I would be looking to refund if I could and wait to pick it up at what it should have cost (MAX £20) when they have completely redone the game.

Edit - they have gone some way as to rectifying the issue but alot more needs to be done yet.

To add to this the recent update has reduced race payouts hugely with some going from £100,000 to £40,000 which adds to what was already a huge grind for the best cars in the game. This all comes after reviews have already been published which stinks from the developers. Gameplay is great and would have given it a 9, but a single player game is unavailable to play because the servers are offline for two days in a row. Also it is offline because they are including a patch to give less credits for race wins pushing you towards pay-to-play. A discrase for the franchise.

While there are lots of short missions and license tests, there's only a handful of Championships and actual races, so you can quickly run out of incentive to keep playing.

This is made worse by the poor payouts from races, which make the game more grindy than it needs to be. Rather than making you feel like you are working to earn more expensive cars and parts, it instead feels like it is pushing you hard to spend real money on microtransactions.

Coupled with just a few tracks, this game sorely lacks replayability for a game that costs €80

    DO NOT buy this game.

The game is beyond grindy for AAA game that costs 70$. For example there are legendary cars that cost around 18-19 mil credits. With how things are you have to keep grinding the same race over and over and over again for the next 25-30 hours or spend 200$ via MTX. If I wanted to grind THAT much i might as well played one of those F2P games and saved myself 70$.

    The bad:
    - Clunky as useless dialogue/conversations with NPC. In the early game some NPCs would give you helpful advices about cars & circuits. But as it gets into mid and late game most npc dialogues became literally rubbish ("I really like xxx car!" "I will be competing in this xxx! It's fast!" ... ya, as if I care).

    The Terrible:
    - Microtransactions. And the nerf to credit rewards.

Microtransactions for credits & cars would be a totally acceptable business model for f2p games, but absolutely NOT for a FULL PRICED game like GT7.

Credits are already hard to come by in game, and on top of that they slashed the credit rewards for the most efficient races. AND even on top of that they release a letter claiming they did it because they "don't want players to mechanically repeat races."

WTF? How does nerfing rewards solve the problem? If I had to mechanically repeat 100 races to get a certain car, after the nerf I have to repeat 200~1000 races to get the same car. Tell me how's that not mechanical now??

In the same letter they mentioned they want to tie in-game car prices to real world prices to reflect the cars' rarity -- that's another WTF.
Dude, most of us will NEVER get our hands on a Ferrari or Lamborghini or a legendary racing car, and that's exactly the reason we buy GT so we can have a taste of driving it in this "real driving simulator"!!
"Real world PRICE simulator" is NOT called for, it's not what ppl buy GT for.

    - The roulette tickets
The visual effect (roulette process) is an utter waste of precious gaming time, and the rewards are often ridiculously meh or USELESS (e.g. tuning parts for cars that you'll never buy).
I'd rather you just give us a fixed amount of credit and take away that RNG factor.

    TL;DR

    - A wonderful game, but ruined by a greedy & malicious business model / management. SIE / PD please stop implementing this disgusting, EA-like microtransactions-everything business model. It may make you money, but it destroys your reputation and gamers' trust in you.

Game also needs the return of race qualifying as constantly starting at the back of the pack (and why always rolling starts?) Isn't a good way to do a racing game. The removal of selling gift cars though as not surprising is a pretty terrible move forcing people to either grind extensively or pay real money for in game credits to purchase cars which wasn't a deal breaker for me as race rewards still weren't that bad but the recent update reducing all the race rewards is just embarrassing and needs to be called out. Polyphony needs to get back the the roots of the GT series and if they do need funding for future content it should be done in the way of paid DLC and not micro transactions. Expand

There's still a lot to improve the in-game economy, and even with the new changes, it's still far from perfect, but at least we're getting somewhere.

Some major underlying problems still exist, and need to be addressed, such as the ability to play the game offline (Kaz excuses this as a way to prevent hacking and cheating, but in reality, it's due to the game's FIA involvement for Sport Mode), and another thing that is equally as important is to make all the cars in the game a rental car in the Arcade Modes.

As stated in my previous review, when played normally under normal circumstances, you don't have any rental cars in the Arcade Modes (Arcade Races, Time Trials, Drift Trials, Custom Races and Two-Player Battle), and only 13 of which when played offline or in the two-player mode.

There are pros and cons to implementing every car in the game as rental cars in these modes (both for all the cars we have already and those added as DLC in future game updates), such as:

    Pros:
    1. It allows players to drive any car on any track that they want (once the tracks in question are unlocked by means of game progression) for casual fun, either in single player or two-player battles. It would also be a necessary option for players if they don't want to grind and just get in their favorite cars.
    2. It gives players the incentive to test drive a specific car before deciding on buying them from their respective dealerships in the game's career modes. This is even more important considering that two dealerships in the game, the Used and Legendary Car Dealerships, have a rotating line-up of cars that change their availability in real time, meaning it could take long for a car to show up there.
    3. Rental cars in the Arcade Modes don't go through performance degradation (such as the oil, engine and chassis rigidity).

    Cons:
    1. Remember that they are *rental* cars restricted to the Arcade Modes only, where you can borrow them for free. You cannot use them in the main campaign unless you buy, collect and earn them in your Garage.
    2. Because of them being rental cars, you cannot apply tuning parts, custom liveries and other such customization items. Only car-specific default colors, liveries and variations can be used from the color/livery selection, and that set-up tuning will only be based on the car's default setup, wherever possible. All tire compounds are freely available for use, however.
    3. As opposed to using cars from your Garage in the Arcade Modes, they should make it where you won't earn credits and Daily Workout progress driving a rental car, in order to keep things balanced.

I can understand the high price for cars to be reflective of real world cars but you have to give a little on either being awarded those same cars with difficult races or by making credits easier to come by. Not only did they do neither of those but they nerfed payouts and made it where you can't sell reward cars which was a huge feature of the earlier games. That said, the Cafe is NOT a campaign, more of a side mission. For a game that literally took 2 console generations to complete (remember, GT6 was released on PS3), that's a huge blow.
