Being a QA (end user) game tester as well as an expert on Norse Mythology, the superbly written game as told from the "other side" is nothing short of a masterwork in storytelling. Those who are review bombing it are at best dimwitted and at worst, uninformed neckbeards residing in their parents basement with their eyesight sorely damaged by their frequent self-gratification.

Exploration when getting all the collectibles was a little tricky at times but the accessibility settings allowed me to use the R3 button which helped me most of the time to get to the general area where i needed to be. I had no problem with the over the shoulder camera. I didn't mind the slightly long animations for small actions. I thought the RPG elements were good. I enjoyed the soundtrack. I didn't enjoy the Loki sections and using him for combat as much as I did when playing as Kratos. It was a nice little breather from using Kratos though. The side companions are pretty helpful. Freya is the favourite companion. I still have a few things to do finish it 100%. I give God Of War Ragnarok 9 out of 10. Expand

This game is what a sequel is supposed to be, it is everything the first game, of the recent series, is and more. The combat has seen a huge upgrade both with the addition of new combat styles and the perfection of old ones, but it still has the same feeling as the first game. The story is fantastic, so many sequels just seem like fan-fare in an attempt to make the same game twice, while this game is not only a continuation, but an expansion on not only the characters but the universe as well. The characters evolve right before your eyes. It's clear Santa Monica Studios took the approach of making the story just as important as the game play, it's not often a game has side quests that can take up an entire play session and leave you feeling satisfied, both with the fun you had and the new stuff you've learned about the world. It's too often that games are littered with side quests that are designed to fill time, provide what's essentially a visual novel, or simply to provide more combat .

I feel that the negative reviews of this game are from people who just don't care for the God of War universe, which is fine no game is for everyone, or from people who expected this game to be your stereotypical AAA title and jumped right in with no knowledge, or game play, of the preceding titles. This game isn't for everyone, it isn't an anime, it isn't a story about a "traditional man", it's not even an rpg. Honestly, if those are the things you need in a game, look away and do some research into games before you decide to buy it and ACT like it's a bad game. Otherwise if you are a newcomer looking at the game because it is a very popular title and are interested in trying it, I would recommend to play through the whole series as I have, but I don't think you would be doing the series a disservice if you watched a recap of 1 through 3 and started at the 2016 title, I'm sure you could get it cheap.

I truly think this title deserves GOTY. For some context, I've tried all of the goty nominees, except a Plague Tale, so I can't speak for that game. I think sonic is awesome and I think it's the best "platformer" on the market as of right now, but at times it feels like a tech demo so to speak. I felt Horizon was kind of empty and lacked a cohesive story which didn't really live up to the first, while being too riddled with meaningless side quests AND characters, but I do think the combat, main story quests, world design, and most importantly the graphics are phenomenal. Stray is tied for my indie GOTY, alongside Vampire Survivors, but the two are by no means comparable. I enjoyed Xenoblade, although didn't finsh it, I just felt it was too limited by the switch hardware and It was just too long for me to finish up. Lastly, Elden Ring. I'm someone who has waited for Elden Ring since the rumors of George RR Martin collaborating with FromSoftware first surfaced, I've played and beaten every "Souls" game at least 2 times through. I got every trophy in Elden and absolutely loved it. Elden Ring will forever be one of my favorite games, but some part of me knows that God of War is the definitive example of a triple A title/sequel and I think it should be the precedent going forward.

Even wall climbing I was like "Can we move a little faster on the walls...". The environments are very linear, can be explored in a "hold you right hand to the wall" model, and often offer too many hints too early to actually motivate you to explore and find solutions to puzzles. There is too much exposition. The game does do a great job of introducing a new generation of characters and storylines, and in some ways Kratos' sluggishness is most notice-able when being aided by his younger partners. The game feels much less open world than 2018, and there is a palpable lack of freedom. Perhaps the only truly novel thing here is the barrage of accessibility options, many of which are on by default, and kind of provide so much aid as to make you feel like you don't need to think much. The game makes some solid improvements compared to 2018, but the landscape of games in terms of fluidity and open-ness have changed so much in the intervening years that this sequel feels still behind. I can say as-well that the gameplay and mechanics were a lot of fun maybe a few too many sub menus buts that’s minor. Lastly I have to say that a lot of my favourite YouTubers and people I know don’t like this game because they had so much that they wanted to see and again people talk about the pacing but I would say that if you enjoyed any GOW titles and you pay attention to the story and plot you’ll end up enjoying this as it is, people also have to remember like all games this was pushed by SO many people to get finished asap, that and the fact that this is the last Norse game they were allowed to do for Kratos meant that had to sacrifice some things but even then. As a stand alone game 10/10 would recommend and what a great sequel done right. Thank you Santa Monica! Expand

Clearly all the really low reviews are to bomb this game. It's a shame, but that's fanboys & the crazy world we live in. This game is a step above the first game and the fact that it is nominated for GOTY and it just recently dropped should tell u all u need to know. Nothing will beat Elden Ring but this game is close.

There are few games that have put me in awe the same way, God of War Ragnarok did. My jaw dropped multiple times within the first 30 minutes of the game. A full immersion experience, superb combat, beautiful story, excellent music, compelling characters, a natural continuation from GOW4, an expansive addition to GOW's Norse Era. Tons of replay value and one of if not the best game I have ever played. I enjoyed every second of it.

I give this game a 9. I didn't finish the first one (well the 2018 one) but I decided to give a real shot to Ragnarok and I gotta say, it was amazing. While it wasn't really a "next-gen" experience, the graphics were still very good and playing it in high frame rate mode + VRR on PS5 made its gameplay very responsive and smooth.

As for the story, the reminder of the first game's story

As for the story, the reminder of the first game's story at the begining was great so I wasn't much left out on this side, though I would have appreciate a little bit more details. In general, the storytelling was great and the cut scenes very well done. The way they made the scenes and the characters, I really felt the emotions expressed by all the characters and this is pretty rare in video games (for me).

For the rest, some might say the gameplay and the missions were a bit repetitive but I really haven't felt that way because it was fun anyway. All in all, I won't enter into the spoiler side but I really recommend this game. I don't think it's a 94, but between 8.5 and 9 is a fair score.

The story was finished masterfully that finished our crave for the continuity left by God Of War 2018. It finished one most renowned if not the best gaming franchise in the gaming world. The characters that were introduced in this game were by far were the most impressive and most accurate depiction of Norse mythology characters in a video game. The character designs and storyline of each character that was presented was smooth yet perfectly short mannered, it helped the players connect with the characters which is essential in a story-wise game. The combat is that is heavily expanded in this game is just magnificent. Now, you have more options to properly mix your moves and fight your opponents in many ways as you want. The character development and the bond Kratos has with Atreus and Mimir in this game along with a few other characters is Top Tier. It shows that Kratos by heart was always a good guy and was used and manipulated by the evil gods for their own uses. So, much so that even Thor was heavily manipulated and abused by Odin. After coming to Norse lands to escape his past, he has one way or another has always done good to protect the people of 9 nine realms. Which is why at the end he is loved and worshipped by the people. The love, bond and patience he has for his son has always warmed my heart. Enough talk.. If you are seeing this review buy it and play it or experience a wonderful playthrough series with your favourite youtuber. Trust me, you will not regret the wonderful experience of story, gameplay and character that this game offers you. Expand

GOD OF WAR: RAGNAROK, if not the best game ever made, is at least a masterpiece. The journey of Kratos and Atreus take together was so touching to me (specially now that I am a parent), so well paced and crafted that I'll take with me for years to come. The cast did an incredible job bringing so much emotion to all characters.

Apart from the story, the game mechanics are extremely satisfying. It is a relativity difficult game, and you may die a lot, but when you nailed the fight you feel rewarded by your efforts. The haptic feedback is glorious and imo helps a lot with the immersion. I never felt frustrated by repeating the fight if I died.
It is quite remarkable of how much Santa Monica Studios put into this game in merely 3 years of development.
I highly recommend everyone to play it, as you won't feel disappointed

I can't help but tip my hat to the entire Santa Monica team. The deeper you delve into the game, the more you'll be drawn into the stunning story of a father and son against the backdrop of perhaps history's most horrific war. Throw in some casually endearing humour, great and fluid gameplay, and wrap it all up with an amazing audiovisual experience. [Issue#323]

Thanks to an amazing cast that’s doing an outstanding job, a compelling story told through the eyes of multiple characters, and top-notch combat, this epic and heartfelt journey strikes all the right chord. It’s impossible not to recommend God of War Ragnarok, but just in case you had any doubts, I strongly advise anyone mildly interested in gaming to play Santa Monica Studio’s latest masterpiece.

It’s a satisfying conclusion to the modern God of War saga, but it’s hard to walk away and not feel like this could have been something greater.
