I think they sacrificed many things on the altar of performance.

I played all of the main missions and it was better than 2018 one
But even this game as it's best is not even close to rdr 2 and how perfect it was
I think the real goty of 2018 was red dead
And im happy to see they gave 2022 awards to elden
Because it's not fair to see good games fall down for exclusive fights and social media

God of War: Ragnarok continues the epic journey of Kratos and Atreus with stunning visuals and satisfying combat. Character development shines, but the pacing feels uneven, and open-world elements occasionally distract from the narrative. Despite some minor technical issues, it's a solid addition to the series, earning a commendable 6/10.

Could have added more runic moves for Kratos, however I think too much time was dedicated to other character movesets.

Story took a turn for worse, just wasn't as captivating as 2018

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is NO WAY this game is a 10. The story is written poorly, the addition of a million new characters is too much, and even the visuals aren't as clean and sharp. It's mildly fun to play, but after playing it on and off for 6 months now I'm really starting to hate it. Expand

I adored the "first" God of War game released on the PS4. I was praying that this game would be my GOTY when it eventually came out. This has to be part of the reason why I was pretty disappointed when the game was released. The game I envisioned and the game that came out were two very different things, in gameplay and narrative. I completed the game in two sittings, which I entirely expected to. The first section of the narrative was everything I dreamed of, a clash I had waited years for, seeing characters only ever mentioned in the first game. That is why I was so disappointed when it came to the rest of the game. I entirely expected this to be the second entry in a trilogy of games, but it feels like they kneecapped their narrative with a rushed ending that felt entirely unearned, at least to me. I really wanted this game to be a 10/10, but personally, it let me down. Just not the game or narrative for me. Expand

Not as good as the one that came before, the action is sloppy, and the characters are lame. Kratos no longer has a strong voice or charm. The game is disappointing, with a very poor storyline and characters making frustratingly dumb decisions. Not to mention, there's a section that is tedious to play, involving senseless tasks unrelated to the plot. My score would have been even lower if not for the beautiful graphics and enjoyable gameplay, but the overall story is quite underwhelming.

God of War Ragnarok is a good game, but like GoW 2018 is NOT a perfect game and is unfortunately criminally overrated. As a first party Sony exclusive, the graphics are fantastic on PS5, with both graphics and performance modes looking great. The writing also sees improvement from the first game, with witty dialogue getting a chuckle from me every now and then. However, just as the first game, the puzzles are monotonous and repetitive with very little variety beyond "freeze the water" or "throw the axe" . As far as the combat goes, nothing has changed since the first game. The combat is just as convoluted, with far too many forgettable skills, runes, etc. The locked camera is still asinine and is incredibly aggravating when I'm trying to pick up a health-stone and I have to fight the camera to let me pick it up. There is also incredibly inconsistent difficulty, why are the regular enemies able to deliver boss level attacks that take half my health? It gets to the point where I've died more to an enemy hoard than to the actual bosses, especially since there can be 3-4 enemies attacking you at once. The bosses have improved from the first game, with more variety, however, who needs bosses when one regular enemy can kill you in two hits. The story has improved since the first game, with a special attention to the characters, however, most of the Atreus sections feel like filler, especially the berry picking mission. This game feels like it's been stretched thin to fill an arbitrary 30 hour campaign length. Overall, God of War Ragnarok is a good game, but nowhere near the heights of a 10/10 game that paid game critics and Sony blowhards would say it is. Expand

I have to say that the game is good, but nothing more. I prefer the first PS4 god of war. This one feels outdated. Its difficult settings are outbalanced and Kratos feels useless. Nonetheless, playing as Loki/Atreus is awesome. For that reason, the game is 6/10 and not 5/10.
The story is not what it should be. It focused on personal problems of the characters and the Ragnarok is decided

An evolution to the formula created by GoW. Why they do these games where you are not free at all in a Nordic world? You can see stunning reigns but 20% of them are explorable and the story is a bit rushed at the end. This game is sufficient enough to give you 30hrs of button smashing experience and your son telling how to solve riddles.

There’s excessive amount of cutscenes, slow walking & talking sections and a ton of very linear, overly simplistic levels with little to no player agency (Ironwood!). I felt so much more freedom in GOW 2018, here devs are hand-holding the player all the time.

Ragnarök completely forgets what made GOW 2018 narrative so good - it was minimal but effective at telling a very personal story. This one tries to be epic but it's completely unfocused. For most of the game there is no clear goal or objective, the heroes just roam different realms doing errands, wondering what's next and where they should even go. And yeah, Ragnarök is coming... I guess. Kratos is a passive passenger in his own game, the rest of the characters are either a complete letdown (Tyr) of annoying (Atreus).

Gameplay is fine but it's wasted on trite mission objectives & linear level design. The game was supposed to be semi open-world but for most of it you're on a extremely linear path either in a straight corridor, combat room or just meandering, listening to endless exposition. Combat and enemies get really repetitive real fast. I don't recommend playing the game on higher difficulty modes. It's very poorly conceived - hard mode is more of a chore rather than challenge. The enemies become damage sponges and most get "super armor" (they don't react to stuns, staggers, juggle starters, etc). At some point I just changed it to normal:/

It blows my mind that this game is getting so many 10/10s and being labeled a "masterpiece". It's an extremely flawed title - the story sucks, the game is very linear and overly simplistic in its design, constantly taking agency away from the player. I really wanted to like this one but came away sorely disappointed:(

I can't help but tip my hat to the entire Santa Monica team. The deeper you delve into the game, the more you'll be drawn into the stunning story of a father and son against the backdrop of perhaps history's most horrific war. Throw in some casually endearing humour, great and fluid gameplay, and wrap it all up with an amazing audiovisual experience. [Issue#323]
