    From its onset, the game grapples with an identity crisis. Gone is the gravitas of Kratos, replaced with a caricature of his former self. The brooding god, once a paragon of rage and redemption, now seems lost, adrift in a sea of incongruous plotlines and half-baked character arcs.

    Graphically, one would expect a sequel to leverage advancements in technology. Sadly, "Ragnarok" appears to be stuck in time. The once pristine landscapes of Midgard are marred by texture pop-ins, and character models, surprisingly, lack the attention to detail the previous installment was lauded for. Interactions with the world around you feel stilted, a far cry from the dynamic and responsive environment of its predecessor.

    Narratively, the game falters with every step. The plot is a labyrinthine mess of convoluted sub-stories, none of which seem to resonate or culminate in anything meaningful. What was once a poignant tale of father and son is now overshadowed by a cacophony of irrelevant side quests and banal dialogues.

    Combat, the series' backbone, feels sluggish and unresponsive. The visceral fluidity of the earlier game's combat system is replaced with a clunky mechanism that often feels like a chore rather than an exhilarating dance of death.

    It's truly disheartening to witness such a fall from grace. A franchise that once stood as a beacon of storytelling and gameplay innovation now stands as a cautionary tale of squandered potential.

    In conclusion, "God of War Ragnarok" is a disservice to its legacy. It's a jumbled mosaic of misplaced ambitions and underwhelming execution. One can only hope that the series finds its way back to the pantheon of gaming greats in future iterations.    … Expand

    The overall impression of this game is really really bad.

    The story is lack luster and kratos (who is a very ugly character with an even uglier personality) son is the most annoying part of this game. The combat system is as dull as in every other hack and slay game and the puzzle sections are just pathetically easy and made for kids of age 6!     Graphics are not good at all and would also have run on my toasters hardware. The 30 FPS cap and drops even below that make this game unplayable.

    I don't know how biased or addicted to fentanyl people can be to rate this game higher than a 0 tbh.

    The management and the devs should be ashamed of themselves and all the studios involved should disband to make sure that less people are being harmed by their products in the future.    … Expand

    This is another lgbtq+ exclusive title which is inclusive for the entire PlayStation fanbase. Although it’s a god of war game it seems like the only thing you’re the god of is rainbows in this game. The storyline is mid at best. The gameplay is buggy as could be on PlayStation.

    Same game as 2018 with a couple little things added, your typical repetitive Sony game that follows a safe formula. Your freedom in this game is very limited kinda like Uncharted where you can only climb on yellow painted ledges because Sony thinks we are too dumb to know where to jump.

    1. I don't why, but the developers insist on enemies surrounding you all the time. Even if you run to a spot to face them at a perfect angle, the enemies will find their way to go to your other sides, and this is not the case for Gow2018. Making things worse, they butchered quick turn, you can press D-Down to quick turn ONLY when you are blocking, which MAKES ABSOLUTELY **** NO SENSE.
    2. Parry was satisfying in 2018, but not here, it's weak as hell. Enemies seem harder to stagger.
    3. If you want the witch time? Well they **** bind it to one set of armor and the time is reduced. They nerfed the combat in every **** possible way.
    4. Almost forgot to mention that they hard-nerfed the rune attacks, they are laughably bad now, not worth abusing anymore. Just pick the ones with the shortest cooldown, at least you can stagger mobs. For damage? Don't even bother.
    5. Do you remember the developers boasting about their "evolution" by which they mean you can cancel any attacks in GOW2018, even the rune attacks? Well well, guess who walked that back? You can't anymore.    … Expand

The single-camera presentation is ruined by an insane amount of menu usage all in the service of terrible RPG elements that hardly influence the combat.

    The writing in this game is just as bad. No subtlety, every character says exactly how they feel. All plot points involve a MacGuffin, just like the last game. The vast majority of character conflicts come from a contrived lack of communication. Many of the character beats are poorly motivated as well. The story tries to explore themes of family and fate, but nothing new is said. Being an abusive person is bad. Letting other people decide your fate is bad. In gameplay, the characters yell the solution to every puzzle before giving the player a chance to observe the puzzle's elements. While in combat, the side characters constantly yell to use a shield strike to stun enemies. Any sense of immersion the game is trying to build is destroyed as soon as the player takes control.

    There are also game-breaking bugs littered throughout. I feel like I have been tricked by both reviewers and developers into buying this game.    … Expand

    Just waste of time. The only good thing might be graphics but not better than horizon forbidden west. Generally map feels so small and skintight. Combats are routine and pointless. It’s like they’ve just made it for story, not for innovation. It could have been a dlc maybe.

    Amazing delivery of dialogue and its story, great facial captures. Overall this is bad game if you think about it. The story itself isnt that good. The norse charecters and its mythology are not incorporated well at all. It sure is beutiful and graphics and the delivery is absolutely top notch.

    But dear god this game is so long just to finish the main campaign and even that was really hard. So much dialogue, walking, climbing repeated enemies. It just dragged on and on without any meaningful reasons. Not to mantioned all the side content that has bloated this game beyong belief.

    Gameplay can defenitly be satisfying but the rpg loot/stats systems assosiated with gameplay doesnt do anything except waste players time to make game longer. So much handholding with the traversal. You cant freely grapple or jump. Everything is on rails.

    I may have bought this game and santa monica.sony may think they already have sales. But if developers dont provide what consumers demand they will not get sales from thier next game. Rpg mechaniches are the worst things thats happened to games industry in my opinion. Shallow way to get you to be addicted.    … Expand

    The game looks so generic and similar that when I would take a 2 hour break and come back to it I was totally lost. Finally after 5 hours and stuck I said f this and quit.

The portrayal of Odin and some of the other gods is just bizarre. I can see it being funny to have Richard Schiff as Odin in a meta comedy kind of story, but it doesn’t work in this melodrama, and lends to the anticlimax of the ending. The combat doesn’t make up for it; low stakes, it doesn’t get better, you don’t get big schools of mobs like in old school gow. When you’re underleveled, you do endless chip damage but dodge constantly to avoid dying in 3 hits ; it’s very uninspiring. The mobs are harder than the bosses, and the bosses are worse than in the prior game, which looks worse in retrospect. it is beautiful and has some good missions, and i think the basic combat system is decent and could have been used in a better game, but it’s possibly the worst PS exclusive, including Days Gone. I regret paying for it, and would wait for it to hit a subscription service or drop substantially.… Expand

    The franchise just went the wrong direction to abandon it's flashy combo and vengeance of Krotos. They tried hard to be tlou+ souls game adventure game.

    In 2023, FF16 is just a better choice if you're looking for a game with fun action combo and fascinating story.

    Huge dissappointment. I got bored of the game and couldn't get back into it. Its simply God Of War 4 but over again. Same graphics, gameplay, combat the same. Kind of feels like just a DLC. Don't get me wrong, God of War 4 is a great game. But this is simply 60 dollar DLC. Maybe if I try to get back in the game and finish it, I would rate it higher.

    FF16 battle exceed GoWR, the Ekions boss fights put the final arc Ragnarok into a shame. It's just a better choice in 2023 if you enjoy action cinematic game.

    The game is an absolute wonder in terms of world crafting and beauty in graphics. The characters are very well done and the story is absolutely intriguing from the start. The combat is much like its predecessors but with a lot more combos and experimenting. That said however, there are glaring issues in the story which show signs of lazy writing and rushed story beats. Many plot points and details from the first game are never expanded upon in this game and many character motivations (mainly Freya) are quickly abandoned for story convenience. Many major threats and enemies like Odin or Thor whose immense power is alluded to in the first game, are lackluster and boring. This game's narrative simply could not live up to the hype and worldbuilding its predecessor built for it. The ending, While I won't get into too much conveys this perfectly. The time travel story element is never expanded upon is just an a**pull and the entire ending sequence boils down to a blackout, where you the player do not get to see anything. The combat is more fleshed out and gives you a lot more experimentation. That said, however, coming from the previous game's uninteresting enemies and most notably the absence of cool finishers and set pieces (think the god of war 3) God of war Ragnarok does not address these issues either. One thing I greatly wish they improved upon was exploration. Exploration is largely the same, while the levels are more fleshed out, they are empty and void of any interesting characters apart from the same souls providing fetch quests and the enemies of course. Some side bosses do have a sliver of that energy found in pre reboot God of war. Needless to say, If you did not like the combat in the previous game, there is not much for you here in God of War Ragnarok. Lastly, this game is clearly a PS4 game. Looking at exclusive PS5 games like Demons Souls or the new Final Fantasy 16, this game pales in comparison. The art direction is wonderful, cinematography and dialogue are great, but ultimately this game was a victim to what the notion it's predecessor built for it. In conclusion, God of War Ragnarok showcases impressive world crafting and graphics, but suffers from lazy writing, rushed story beats, and unexplored plot points. The lackluster enemies, disappointing ending, and unchanged exploration further detract from its overall experience. While the combat sees some improvements, it fails to reach the level of excellence set by its predecessor and other exclusive PS5 titles.… Expand

    What did they do to God of War? The combat is like a watered-down version of the previous titles. The story and dialog are boring, which I can deal with but they decide to drag it out more and more and more. God of War is supposed to be an epic hack n slash action game where to story is just dumb fun, not this CW drama and B-tier soulborne combat

Inegavelmente o jogo possuí gráficos fantásticos, uma gameplay de combate bem variada, podendo mesclar vários tipos de combos com diferentes armas, apesar de ser extremamente similar ao game anterior de 2018. Infelizmente eu preciso apresentar alguns pontos e expressar meu descontentamento.
    1° As narrativas criadas para justificar *Plot Holes* grotescos sem sentido, exemplo: Kratos tem equipamentos, armas e magias de origem Grega, porém ele não pode usar pois está fora do reino de sua origem. Está justificativa não faz sentido nenhum pois Kratos utiliza da sua fúria espartana e as lâminas do caos que imbuem magia Grega nos reinos nórdicos.
    2° *Descaracterização* do personagem Kratos: Nos antigos jogos da franquia, até mesmo no game de 2018 vemos um Kratos violento, brutal e disposto a fazer qualquer coisa pra tirar seus inimigos do seu caminho. Em God of War Ragnarok Kratos perdeu totalmente sua essência, a justificativa de que seu filho o fez mudar é justa, mas mudar completamente virando chacota?     Unfortunately, this game suffers from lackluster writing. Many moments drag on too long, while others move much too fast. 2018 had about 10 total characters present, while this one throws another 30 or so at you and doesn't give you much time to get connected to them or be invested in them. Many characters sound out of place from this world and speak with modern mannerisms that break the immersion and make you feel like you're watching a Marvel movie.
    Another big issue is the overall gameplay. The combat is great but not as great as in the Greek era. The traversal mostly has you slowly climbing up walls or crawling through tunnels as a way to hide a loading gate and have the PS4 stop processing one area and start processing the next. The puzzles are decent until your companions open their mouths and can't stop telling you exactly what to do and there is no option to turn them off. There are TONS of cutscenes in this one, and they feel more dramatic than they need to be, almost like the writers are begging you to feel the same emotion as the characters in these moments. This could have worked if the writing was tighter and more meaningful, but they decided to go with overemotional acting and sweeping music to try and make these scenes bigger than they really are. It's one of the cheapest tricks you can pull when making a movie. Maybe that's the core root of this game; it feels like an Avengers movie more than a God of War game.
    In summary, they are stepping too far away from what made God of War unique and special back in the 2000s, and instead, they are copying trends from other successful games to try and appeal to a broader audience and make more sales. You could sum up this game with single words like "vanilla", "bland", and "unoriginal."
    I don't care what happens to the franchise after this because at this point I'm done. I'm going to subscribe to PS Plus Premium so I can play the older games and reminisce how great God of War once was.
    Edit: After playing God of War 1-3 and Ascension and then trying Ragnarok again, the tone of Ragnarok is unbearable with how many characters are goofy and crack jokes. It's in stark contrast to the tone they are trying to establish in the story with violence and death, and it's disgustingly jarring.
    The story ended at 3 with Kratos killing himself to give hope to others. The Norse games are not canon.    … Expand

    This game broke me, it had everything to be the best God of war ever, but the developers couldn’t use the great potential this game had… It feels like Cory couldn’t finish what he started, so he gave the job to someone that had different ideas for the story and he made it the worst way as possible in almost everything in story and gameplay. What makes the story a disaster is that the writers and Cory had the stupid idea to make it a 2x1 game, so the narrative feels rushed after the first two hours of the game, also the fact that many characters don’t feel well written at all (Atreus tries to look clever, but every decision he makes is none sense, Freyr is literally a MCU character with unfunny jokes, Odin had a pointless item and Thor is “justified” for being a serial killer and a terrible father as it was said in the last game) and that there’s no clear objective since the beginning, it’s a very complex and anticlimactic story. The gameplay (which should be the most important part of the GAME) has two things that make it good, which are the combat system that’s very enjoyable and most of the enemies and bosses you fight, but the rest of the things have zero innovation, which makes the DLC argument still valid. I think that the biggest flaw about the gameplay is that Santa Monica focused a lot on the story, so you’ll have too many long cutscenes and walking simulators… I won’t talk that much about the soundtrack and artistic direction because they aren’t the main focus, but if I had to say something about it, both are gorgeous (mostly the soundtrack)!    … Expand

Antes de la nueva partida plus merece un 9, lo jugué como 10 veces seguidas, y disfrutsbs con los jefes finales. Sin embargo en la nueva partida + mi valoración es un -9, ya q de nada te sirve llevar las armaduras y armas al nivel 10, me fui a por la reina gna, a la que vencia fácilmente y mis armas solo le hacían caricias y mis armaduras no me daban protección, intente probar con un jefe berseker en que Luchas contra 3 a la vez, y lo mismo. No me dieron problemas en la versión primera, pero en la nueva partida + son invencibles y kratos muy muy débil. He desinstalado el juego, y es el último título de la saga que comprare ( he jugado todos en playststion, y hasta la versión 2028 - la mejor en pc tambien). No me gusta el enfoque de la nueva partida plus en ragnsrok, pues en la versión 2018 notabas más facilidad para derrotar a las valkirias con las armaduras +, ahora el personaje kratos vuelve muy miy débil en el nivel 10 y los jefes como la reina gna y el rey berseker suyos solo para jugadores profesionales. God ofcwar deja de ser un título apto para todo jugador y solo apto para jugadores muy muy buenos. No comprare ningún título más de god of war.… Expand

    The game looks like a bad mix of Zelda, Tomb Raider, Uncharted and for the optional content, Souls. The most interesting part is: there is no God of War on it. It's not an epic game with epic scenes. If you want action, the game gives you puzzles. If you want to explore, the game gives you cutscenes.

    And some people dare to compare this overproduced boomer game to a monument like Elden Ring? Not that Elden Ring does everything right far from it, but it's still comparing a vacation vlog to a Martin Scorsese movie.

    If you dont care to make something enjoyable to play, and just want to tell a story, just make a movie next time. Youtube is making playing sony's games irrelevant. Just watch someone playing and save your money. Looks like another assassins cringe series is born. And kratos have a severe case of amnesia as he forgot everything he learned from the previous game. He sorta dull eh?

    I can't help but tip my hat to the entire Santa Monica team. The deeper you delve into the game, the more you'll be drawn into the stunning story of a father and son against the backdrop of perhaps history's most horrific war. Throw in some casually endearing humour, great and fluid gameplay, and wrap it all up with an amazing audiovisual experience. [Issue#323]

    Thanks to an amazing cast that’s doing an outstanding job, a compelling story told through the eyes of multiple characters, and top-notch combat, this epic and heartfelt journey strikes all the right chord. It’s impossible not to recommend God of War Ragnarok, but just in case you had any doubts, I strongly advise anyone mildly interested in gaming to play Santa Monica Studio’s latest masterpiece.
