There is nothing more satisfying than perfectly timing a parry and slicing open the enemy with your katana. The is the best sword fighting mechanics I've ever experienced. And it's not just the sword fighting, the other combat mechanics hold their own. Whether you're throwing smoke bombs, shooting arrows, and sneaking up on an enemy and stabbing them in the back, in every way, shape and form, this game is amazing. There are no weaknesses in my opinion. It's an all around masterpiece. Expand

Ahora la expansión es más de lo mismo, en el buen sentido, con algunas cosas extras que no encuentras en el juego base, y también tiene mucho contenido de buena calidad. Por último quiero añadir que si no has jugado el juego esta es la versión que debes comprar. Expand

The good: everything. Combat is a nice compromise between the Dark Souls style gameplay that has been infecting games for the last decade and arcade fun that appeals to a wider audience. The play can wait for the right time to parry or dodge or hit enemies hard with throwing knives and smoke bombs. The gameplay is fun, fun, fun. Graphics are amazing. The art design makes brilliant use of color, nature, and traditional Japanese architecture. Facial expression and enemy design are AAA. Voice acting is also well done though I did not try the Japanese voice acting with English subtitles. More gamers should buy this game to let publishers know that they care about quality.

The bad: maybe too much of a good thing. Ghost of Tsushima has the same issues with open world gameplay people complain about with games like Horizon Forbidden West and the Assassin's Creed franchise. There are questions marks everywhere and most are the same things: follow the fox, cut down bamboo, or collect a headband. Side quest all boil down to go there and kill this. This is why most people never finish games. (My advice for anyone thinking of abandoning a game is to instead lower the difficulty and stick to the main story missions.) A lot of the bloat is ameliorated by the tight focus of the missions and side missions. My play through was a little over 40 hours, which is quick for this kind of game.

The controls max out every possible button and button combination to the point that you will constantly hit the wrong button at the wrong time. The clutter of controls is very reminiscent of Read Dead Redemption 2 and the tendency of the player to accidently gun down NPCs instead of saying hello. One thing Ghost of Tsushima does that could be fixed for the ease of the player are battle stances. You have to select different stances to fight swords men, shield men, or pike men. Why not have the Ghost auto select the stance depending on the enemy? One less button combo to press would very much help the player.

Full disclosure: I picked up Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut from my PlayStation Plus Extra collection.

My negatives are mostly around the open world element. I nearly didn’t finish the game because of fatigue. There’s just too much pointless filler in the open world (a common issues with arpgs these days). That would have been a massive shame because the end of the game is great.

I don’t mind there being an open world but I wish they’d have put more development effort into the major side stories rather than the filler content.

I tried the online multiplayer a bit. It was a moderately interesting distraction for a while but isn’t as good as dedicated MP games so I don’t really see the point of it tbh.

Overall 9/10. What it does well it does VERY well.

Being put in the shoes of a lovable main character in Jin adds another level of joy as he struggles with the concept of right and wrong based from how he was raised versus how the pain of war unfolds. Along the way you meet many characters with their own side quest lines, and honestly they were equally as enjoyable as the main story.

The combat in this game was also perfection; Sucker Punch clearly learned a lot from both Sly Cooper and Infamous and put them both to work here, mixing elements of hack and slash with stealth and techniques, this game truly was perfection from beginning to end. It's also very generous with checkpoints and giving you a bit of health if you keep dying at any portions.

If I have any complaint at all about this game, it's only a minor gripe about some of the side-quests and some of the main narrative. This is not a happy game; it has beautiful moments and things that make you smile, but this is war and war is not pretty, and sometimes the side-quests reflect this by being terribly depressing with no good feels to walk away with, and I do prefer a bit of balance. But that really is a tiny drop in the a large beautiful ocean that is Ghost of Tsushima.

Ghost of Tsushima is an amazing journey, a sensational narrative driven by the imagination of the devs. A deep dive into feudal Japan. A masterpiece.

The directors cut is the first time I've experienced the game, on a PS5. I had my doubts regarding the reviews and the reception but... OH BOY what a treat of a game it was. This my review based on 60 hours of playtime.

Narration/Story: It is no doubt a long story, however the narrative, the characters, the scenery, the world design bring the game to life. It pushes you to literally imagine your self being in that era. Every character has a story to tell (tales as the game calls them). Every part of their story brings you closer to them. You feel their anger, the distress, the pain, it connects you on a level, that I never though possible in a game. It is exceptionally crafted to showcase a journey through pain. I wont spoil anything.

Combat. You can approach any fight the way you want. There are 4 stances to choose seamlessly, appropriate for each type of enemy. Simple skill trees that will not overwhelm you. Amazing animations and finishers transform you into Rurouni Kenshin. Wanna go all out? go for it, want a stealthy approach? feel free. There is no limit. The bottom line is that the combat of GoT is a pure satisfaction.

This is a brief review of my time with GoT, there is no doubt in my mind that this is among the best games on PS4/PS5 and among my top 5. (on Playstation)

    Tips:

Play this game in Japanese Dialogue. Spot on voice acting that adds a level of immersion that English dialogue simply cannot. If you are an One piece fan, Jin Sakai (main character) has the same voice actor as ZORO.

It is surprising to see so many bad reviews. Either they are trolls that never played the game, or they got into the game with the wrong expectations.

Do your self a favor and play this game. Well worth the price. 9/10 ez

Ghost of Tsushima for me was GOTY. Its by far the best Japanese Samurai themed game i have ever played. Most of the reviews that has gave this game less than 10 most probably got lost because of the navigation system in the game. The wind is a major part of the game and an on going theme.

I was never interested in Samurais growing up so it was completely new to me but i learnt so much

I was never interested in Samurais growing up so it was completely new to me but i learnt so much and it actually got me to appreciate the whole meaning of what the Samurai are and what they stand for. The combat is fluid and every time you defeat even the lowest of enemies you feel like the biggest badass in the world its literally like watching a movie. The PS5 enhancements of taking advantage of new controller is very cool and very noticeable.

BUT the reason i gave the Directors Cut a 9 was because im not 100% convinced its worth the price tag. I mean £70 for a new area which is great dont get me wrong but £70? It just seems abit steep for what you are getting when you could go and buy the preowned PS4 version for possibly £30 less and still enjoy the incredible story.

P.S. Ignore the reviews commenting on Graphics. It does not need an enhancement of Graphics it genuinely is beautiful and you will ride your horse through fields of blossom in absolute awe. Trust me.

Ghost of Tsushima is a stunning game. I have never before played a game with such a vibrant open world. It feels lived-in, it feels living. Before GoT I never experienced ASMR from a video game. Now I do. The falling of leaves, petals etc make this a magical world akin to something from a Studio Ghibli film. Equal parts Journey, Bushido Blade and Tenchu this is a game that has been constructed to please the people who forked out for it. Comparing it to TLOU2 is unfair to Naughty Dog because GoT blows it away. I dont know why anyone would choose TLOU2's edgelord nihilism over the magic of GoT - a game whose creators went out of their way to make enjoyable. Also comparisons to Assassins Creed persist but speaking as a fan of AC since the first one (though not so much recently) I am not throwing the games under the bus when I say that AC has never been this good. Not even close. Jin Sakai is a great MC who veers away from the preaching that has become commonplace in Western games and proves that gamers do not need forced MCs who mirror them at the threat of twitter mob outrage. There could be a case made that it is not as long as some other open world games but I would counter that there is no extraneous flab in GoT. Just classy, relevant substance. Its side missions serve a purpose, add to the plot and build the world Jin is trying to save. The add fuel to Jin's desire to save it at all costs. It is so refreshing to have side missions that serve a purpose and aren't just 'Deliver this persons frying pan'. It is a game that makes you care about its casts philosophies without badgering you with encyclopedias on why you're supposed to care (a la Death Stranding). Its world is magical and you want to protect it as much as Jin does. It isnt an exercise in making you feel like crap like TLOU2. It captures the essence of nature and play (which in reality are intertwined anyway). Ghost of Tsushima is a strong contender for Game of the Year and it would take something godlike to deny it.

When playing the Director’s Cut I was finally able to see the vision and passion of the developers. Experiencing Tsushima in 60fps is truly breathtaking with improved textures and lighting. It were minor changes because the game already looked good but they are noticeable.

Iki Island is a worthy expansion too due to the difference in environment, the backstory of his father and the small iterations in gameplay mechanics and enemies. Still, there is space to have a slightly better experience. More variation in missions (especially sides missions), more creativity in cinematics and more animations for Jin. There are a lot of black screens where you expect it to be a transition between gameplay and cutscenes.

All in all, an amazing experience with respect for the origin of this story.

    Pros:
+ The world is the real star of this game.
+ Wind and particles ... everywhere.
    + Soundtrack is fantastic
+ The feeling of the atmosphere and culture is great
+ Exciting stand-offs and the boss fights

    Cons:
    - Variation in (side)missions could be better
    - Lack in cinematic creativity (cutscenes)
    - The game very often skips animations or scenes where you expect it to be better polished

Advise: If you already played or own the PS4 version, the Iki Island expansion in enough to experience the atmosphere again. If you never played it before and want the best experience, the Director’s cur it worth it!

Then, on top of that, you add stellar stealth mechanics similar games like Assassin's Creed can't even nail; matched with a combat system that isn't the most complex but isn't overly simplified The combat is fun and enjoyable, and even when you mess up, it's one of those things where you know it's you that made a mistake and not the game cheating you. The story in this game is fantastic and compelling from start to finish, not to mention the side missions that only flesh out the whole story even more. I did end up buying the PS5 version physically when it launched. The PS5 version adds Haptics to the whole experience and somehow increases the already amazing graphics... I do believe there's also a framerate option for those who prefer higher framerates.
It includes the DLC expansion story of Iki Island, which in itself was absolutely phenomenal. They also include a multiplayer mode now that is entirely free... it's a lot of fun, and for those who enjoy gaming with friends, I could see spending countless hours there. I haven't spent much time with it as I prefer single-player campaigns.

    GHOST OF TSUSHIMA REVIEW

I gave Ghost of Tsushima a solid 10/10, so I will not explain the base game, I will focus on the new aspects and the brand-new island of Iki

    SETTING
News gets to Jin that the island of Iki is being invaded by a new Mongol ruler, the Eagle, so he departs there to stop the Mongol invasion there to avert once and for all the Mongol threat.
Whilst traveling to Iki, Jin’s boat collapses in a storm and he is left stranded. Then he awakes in Iki and the story unfolds

    MECHANICS
Similar as with the base game, but I will add a few additional mechanics

    • Exploration:
Now there are animal shrine whew you use your flute to control via motion controls the rhythm of the melody, so the animal can be attracted to you. You will be rewarded with charms or enhancements to specific charms.
I would have loved the option of enhancing what I want, but either way getting to these shrines is amazing.
There is also know archery challenges, which are very nice and some of them are tricky. If you manage to beat them fast enough you will also be rewarded. Add the haptic feature of the PS5 controllers and you will feel a bow in your hand!
Finally, you get to fight in an arena with a wooden sword. This was also cool, and the battles are directed to just one hit, to start a new round.
The island of Iki is short in area compared to Tsushima (about ¼) but that does not mean exploration is easy. There is a lot of vertical areas which have difficult accesses. Exploration is still a nice addition to the perfect combat!

    • Combat:
Oh boy, they got it right... Mud, blood, Sweat, and Steel! and well said, as I have never played such an addictive combat gampleya which hooked me in so much... this was the beginning of my original GoT review… I stand for it in the Director’s cut as now combat has been revamped with nice additions such as a lock on feature. The Shamans will enhance enemies and they will become more aggressive, meaning they will get you with unblockable attacks repeatedly. Adding to that, now there are enemies that can change weapons during battle, and you will be changing stances even more now. Overall, combat is more challenging now.
Finally, there is a new skill to charge enemies with your horse! It is a satisfying addition to add an additional tactical level to the already challenging and awesome combat

    • Stealth
Same good stealth mode with improved assassination animations. No major changes in here, really. Stealth was good in the original, it has improved in this one with cooler animations

    VISUALS
Visuals were great and now they have been overhauled a little more. Do not expect a major change in here as already the PS4 version was jaw dropping, but there is an improvement, and now for us lovers of Japanese Samurai cinema… there is sync lip for Japanese language. Doing this must have been really difficult as this is a RPG game and you talk with literally EVERYONE.

    SOUND
Soundtrack is amazing and epic, adding to an already incredible soundtrack not only for GoT but also for GoT Legends. What I love most about the soundtrack is how it adapts to the environment.

    FINAL VERDICT
I give this game a solid 10/10. I bought the base PS4 version and I was ok to pay for the upgrade not only for the new expansion with Iki Island (which will take 10 to 15 hours to complete as a whole) but also for the revamp in the graphics, and audio. Go get it and become one of the most badass Shinobi!

A lot of people misunderstand what the director's cut is. You aren't paying for the enhanced PS5 aspect, that's the bonus. With that, you get the haptic feedback, adaptive triggers. 3DA lot of people misunderstand what the director's cut is. You aren't paying for the enhanced PS5 aspect, that's the bonus. Highly recommend to play it, one of the best fabular RPGs I've played. Expand

This game looks beautiful on the PS5, and has an amazing story to back up the graphics.

The game enjoyed a fairly authentic entourage of medieval Japan, great scenery, and really next-generation console graphics. Greatly developed characters and story.

So far, for me, this is the first game where the "bad ending" fully fits into the overall narrative of the game and is a logical conclusion to the game.

I recommend this gaming experience to everyone.

Immediately smitten I found myself search every nook and cranny for nuggets of storytelling, of lore and hints at the broader world of 1274 Tsushima, and the Sakai clan, so when the Director’s Cut was announced, with new story DLC in tow, it was exactly what this fan was looking for. Now that it’s here, it’s not at all unreasonable to conclude that the tales of Iki island have further enhanced one of 2020’s finest titles, while some smart quality of life additions improve the core game significantly as well. Great game when you play through main missions you feel how the gameplay flows gorgeously it's really fun to play.. side missions have great story as well however you can see it seems to be too generic and it gets bored easily

Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut is the same beloved game with a few more additions while for someone who already own the game on a ps4 it's not worth buying again, since it doesn't offer much more than the standard edition. For new players who never experienced it before it is the definitive edition (considering you have a ps5) since it includes the game with all it's additions. Great game in all aspects, story is great and the game-play is every greater. I was hoping for an assassin creed version of samurai game, but sucker punch went ahead of everyone and made this great game.

Well done update for a great game. Lots of new content is complemented by a ton of new gameplay elements. More content was missing from the basic game, otherwise there was nothing to complain about. And now everything is fine. Reason to buy Playstation 5 if you don't already have one.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut has improved the graphic of the game greatly. The newly added Iki Island brings new stories and challenges, and further extended the story background. For players who have already cleared the game, playing the Director's Cut version is still an unforgettable experience.

It’s more of a regular DLC paired with some improvements for the PS5 rather than a true director’s cut. However, the developers do deserve praise for how skillfully they inserted the expansion into the narrative of the base game. The story about Jin’s past and the sins of ancestors is great (as opposed to boring side quests), new enemies pose a challenge, and the game as a whole shines on PS5’s more powerful hardware. I wish the visual improvements were more noticeable though. [11/2021, p.31]
