I'm not new to Diablo. Played DIII hundreds of hours on PC. Love it!
But I can't accept that a game that I should be able to play a campaign by myself and relax, makes me wait in line for a login. It is the 3rd day in a row after I buy it that I can't play.
I can update this review if this is fixed. For now gets a 4 for the nice videos on youtube! Unacceptable considering the cost and all

The art graphics sound is great ! The combat are very repetitive and not rewarding . The scaling is broken … finding new gears is boring since its good fol like 25 minutes of gameplay … and the bugs … i wont even go there

Updated review after 8 hour Q times confirmed with all login servers down world wide for the game. Great job Blizzard....

Game is lacking in many areas for long term enjoyment. Balance issues show lack of good quality testing and game was pushed out unfinished. Servers have been holding out but we still get some lagging issues and rubber banding. Progression is mediocer controlled

Game is lacking in many areas for long term enjoyment. Balance issues show lack of good quality testing and game was pushed out unfinished. Servers have been holding out but we still get some lagging issues and rubber banding. Progression is mediocer controlled by overpriced upgrading system to hold gold inflation down.

Worst part is without a doubt how expensive respecing is and it forces players not to make too many changes to the builds. That is VERY bad and could have been done differently.

Game will be dead within one or two months. Seasons will be very boring cause of renown grind rather than enjoyable gameplay.

I’ve played Diablo games for nearly 25 years, with the exception of Immoral (I played that for 5 minutes). I’ve also played various other ARPGs, along with a variety of MMOs, FPS, RTS games, etc. I run a popular network of community game servers. The point is that I have experience gaming.

    The good:

    - nice graphics, smooth combat, decent sound design, okay music
    - has that “blizzard polish” you expect when it comes to presentation

    The bad:

    - massive open world that requires lots of pointless meandering with very few enemies and/or points of interest; towns are large and require lots of walking just to reach NPCs and waypoints; it is just disrespectful to the player’s time
    - despite being required to play online, there is literally no social aspect. nobody uses the chats, very few people are in towns.
    - the character building and looting feels very much like somebody who doesn’t know ARPGs designed it
    - storyline is a bore; those that say otherwise might need to crack open a book, watch a movie, or listen to a John Prine album
    - absolutely lacks LFG, search, party finder, modern inventory management
    - plays like a bad ARPG or bad MMO - it has none of the good qualities of either genre
speaking of MMO, it is an immersion breaking experience to see other players when you aren’t expecting them

    Commentary:

None of the above is even nitpicking the small details that really need addressing either; it’s not worth the time to even write it out. I hope this review will help those trying to make an informed decision.

The “official” reviews are all paid marketing campaigns.

    TL;DR
Once you get past the makeup, expensive hair + fingernails, and Gucci handbag, there is an immature, soulless product with a poor taste in music, demands a sugar daddy, and doesn’t know how to wash dishes.

I should be able to play a game that I paid for. Full stop. They sold a game that I cannot play because they can't keep their servers running. No option to play offline, just a useless piece of plastic. I'd love to review the gameplay, music, graphics, etc. but I can't. So here we are.

This is like a 7 but I have to give it a 0 because they just turned it into a live service game. Problems connecting, lost of people in my world killing enemies, etc. I'll stick with Diablo III.

For half an hour I looked at the blacksmith who beats the anvil with a hammer. And that's it. This is the only animation.

The character walking animation (I play with a gamepad) is just a slow-motion animation of running.

    Absolute hack.

I wasn't really a Diablo fan but this game has got me hooked. I'm going to be playing this game for ages. It's got so much replay value because of the variety for builds you can make. I can't wait to finish my first playthrough and get stuck in to another class. I'm really impressed.

I hope Blizzard has the opportunity to learn from this and make positive changes that actually end up in favor of the players, otherwise the players will simply go elsewhere

Due to the irresponsible patching of the management, the "Rogue" players felt angry and disappointed. Not only did the patch simply nerf the character, but the mechanism of character play itself collapsed, and there was no reason to play "Rogue" anymore after the endgame.

Just like diablo 3 is a downgrade from diablo 2, this is a downgrade from even diablo 3, with microtransactions. In the 2000s there's a lot of lame Korean grindy online games inspired by diablo 2; this thing plays just like those abominations.

The presentation (graphics and sound) are very well done, but the game just isn't fun to play. There is absolutely no sense of progression because all of the enemies scale with your current level, meaning the enemies in the first area will always be difficult to kill. Boss fights are interminable. Item/loot drops are no longer exciting because they don't really make you more powerful. It's the video game equivalent of a slot machine that never pays out anything. It's the first Diablo game that hasn't hooked me immediately. I have trouble seeing this game succeeding long term if they don't make changes. I would tell anyone considering a purchase, to at least wait a few months. Expand

    2. Early release for suckers who give Activision blizzard extra money. Giving players with fomo an extra four days of early grinding is a terrible business practice.
    3. The monetization. The game is changing upwards of 25 dollars for a armor skin in a full priced game lmao. Seriously, it was less then that to buy the necromancer class in Diablo 3, or for a full fleshed out expansion in Diablo 2. You can't unlock the skins in the game either.
Game could of been good but the greed keeps it from a high review. All of the critics that reviewed this game should have to go back and update their reviews

Disconnects every 15 minutes, rollbacks(sometimes up to 30 minutes of wasted time)

Repeatable dungeons, events, everything is the same, just different names. The game has 20 minutes of unique content, which start over every time. Environment feels same during whole campaign, graphics, animation: welcome to the 2012 again. Far away from triple A

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]
