This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 is a high budget, cinematic experience... but its manipulative, dishonest and disgusting pre-release marketing tactics, the hypocrisy of Sony, the lies of mainstream publications and the brutal, amateur story coalesce to create a game that can NEVER be called a "masterpiece" and should accurately be criticized for what it is. That is... a self-aggrandizing, shallow narrative meant to destroy everything you love for the shock value, and subverted expectations. Expand

The characters and their dialogs are awesome. The Gameplay is solid. Nothing really new or very exciting. It works, feels good and that's what i expected for this game. I do like the stealth system. I wish there where more games with that kinda mechanic. The NPC and enemy AI works really good and is acting naturally.
The biggest strength of the game is it's story.
If you like what's happening or not is personal preference. But you can't say that the story is disappointing or trash. Because that's not the case. And that is an objective meaning.

Graphics are insane for a console that's 7 years old. No Framerate issues at any time. The sound and the Soundtrack are also very good. And no bugs in my whole first playthrough. Well done Naughty Dog!

Overall a very good game and something i didn't saw or felt before playing this masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is groundbreaking. Do not believe the ridiculous bombardment of negative reviews, as it’s doubtful most of the users have played through the game, and many of them have various agendas. Outside of this game being gorgeously rendered and designed, outside of the smooth and addictive gameplay, the powerful acting, and yes, AWESOME story and writing, this game challenges the player like no other to second-guess their feelings and provides nuanced, multifaceted views on the nature of vengeance, mourning, murder, and how mindless anger can cloud one’s judgment. This is not a happy game; if you allow yourself to become invested in the various characters, there’s a lot of painful payoffs, but it’s an essential piece of art in a medium that yearns for new stories and creative ways to tell them. This game will mess you up and make you feel things, and even if one of those things is anger, that’s okay. A must-play, and a game of the decade contender already. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A game made for nothing but the creator's twisted personal vision. In order to make a successful product and be a good content creator, you must find a balance between satisfying your fans and making something in your vision. Too much pandering is bad, but so is not listening to your consumers and dismissing their complaints. Naughty Dog didn't find a balance here. Delivering repetitive, sloggy gameplay, with a story thats needlessly edgy without depth like some thirteen year old girl's rabid fanfiction. Shock value isn't always going to work, it's a cheap circus trick at best and your consumers in a field like the video game industry always have a higher standard than that. This is by far one of the most underwhelming sequels I've witnesses and there's a reason it's getting "review-bombed". Expand

To say that this game is more than 8, is not honest review. The game is not less than four I imagine, but I was unable to enjoy the game because of the story, and being a story focused it deserves a four. However, I can understand that the fair score would be a six, lousy writing by a lousy producer. The game is not bad because of leftist ideology, more because of the lack of capacity from those who made it. xD

I'm being honest here and saying I love the graphics, but as a gamer I hate the plot so much that it ruined the whole experience for me and I canr even return the game. The fake quarantine imo has a lot to do with what the hell is going on: many people's minds are literally becoming numb being taken away from the depths of themselves AKA limited to superficial consciousness, while certain other people who are also stuck at home, are "expanding" and feeling growth and going and doing certain things outside of their house while also agreeing that COVID-19 is a very serious disease to be taken into account, and they are also people who have worn a mask at a certain time just to go get the mail. Because it turns out that (speaking from a first world perspective) that if one million people die in three months by a single disease never heard of before, then the entire moral earth is also in danger of dying, and therefore a pandemic and a quarantine shall be called. Okay, I understand, is the responsible and reasonable response. But then all governments world-wide realize that due to over-population, quarantining the sick from their societies would be too much a hassle. So out of sheer laziness, they demand that YOU must stay inside, that you must follow their rules mindlessly which is actually NO RULES AT ALL. As a result, conflict is ensuing that is purely psychological and refined to this point and manner. Many people have killed themselves, degenerates showed themselves destroying shops and setting things on fire to "send a message", and CHAZ exists, and the police are as much a scapegoat for people's boredom to feel powerful as Hitler's and anti-semites' were in saying the Jews were the cause and the real problem and needed to be 'solved', in place of one's own outrage against unreason, and nothing else, which just then happens to be assimilated with violence and random lives being ended. This is inarguable, whether you like it or not. THIS mentality is then imbued into a videogame. I say "then" because of the way I started the order of this writing, but in reality obviously one did not cause the other. But this mentality and the release of this game with this kind of thinking is huge, and what exactly is the mentality? The great negativity in self-awareness and blaming of other people or people's as the root for your own problems, and then situating oneself to the point of saying that controlling or hurting someone else shall solve mine, perhaps dramatizing small back-and-forth dialogue conversations/heated arguments as LITERAL serious means for "war". Sound familiar? People know what I am talking about, we've all laughed at this. So, then one sees THIS happen in a videogame, but it had a predecessor. What was that like? There was a main character with so many individual traits that grant him the status of nigh heroic, along with a side character who is absolutely enjoyable, maybe corny at times, but is also part of the entire plot moving in the first place, and what we find is a grand transposition and misplacement of values when thinking of comparing this game to the game we have today. In the first game, Joel is established as heartbroken, suffering, hardened, but also we find moments where he is vigorous and alive. Ellie is your average 14 year old who has also just lost people she loved or felt highly affectionate for. Then we realize that she has a trait where she can't get infected---and the plot itself is simplified and understood ideally for the audience. Keep her safe, keep her alive, possibly a cure, as we predominantly play as Joel. Now I then BECOME JOEL, I AM heroic, my daughter was the one lost in the first few moments of the game, I am the one who cries when Joel finds elliie as she butchered David during the end of the winter chapter, etc. THISISWHATVIDEOGAMESDO. In comparison to books, films, sculptures, painting, other mediums of art, video games directly impact people in a refined way, a very refined way. I do not have to imagine certain things that videogames show for me, and the greatest games offer a balance between what I can do indepently within the game, while ALSO following the creators' lead, because that ultimately is what one does when playing a created game, even though the word "created" feels redundant in the sense I just conveyed. SO in TLOU2, the lead I follow makes no sense, like this quarantine thing, using the human debility of pity, in other words, assigning another one's SELF as one's own self, in order to understand a message or get a message across. How can I do that if it is ONLY myself that plays your game individually? Do you see the connection between this and the tyranny of the "qurantine"? A virus that is new and harmful TO YOU , but then assumed to be that way FOR EVERYONE? ASIF you know and understand everyone? This is a will to "equality" & is disguised as "revenge is bad". **** Expand

In the beginning of the game, they killed off Joel who was the main character of the first game in a very brutal and disturbing way that was completely out of his character. If all you want is a continuation of the story of Joel and Ellie, told in the same or a similar style as The Last of Us part 1, you are going to be extremely disappointed with this game. I LOVED the first game. I've played it start-to-finish probably a dozen times. Naughty Dog chose to go in a very different direction with the characters and story structure than I think most fans were expecting. After finishing the game, and having many ups and downs along the way in my own experience with the story, I can say that this game absolutely deserves the 10/10 ratings it is receiving for what the game actually is. I totally understand why some people are upset about the approach they took, and how it violated their expectations of what this game should be. But if you can get past the initial shock that it's not what most Last of Us fans expected, Naughty Dog has created something incredible and unique, and this story is something that will stick with me for a very long time. The most interesting thing is that players, with a few exceptions, are not happy with the sequel because of the demonstration of minority issues in it. Not outraged by the players and almost unchanged from the first part of the gameplay. Players are primarily unhappy with the storyline and characters.

The continuation story unfolds five years after the finale of the first part. Players control Ellie and set off to explore post-apocalyptic Seattle. This game is an action adventure, more like a thriller with elements of survival.

Players are very fond of the two main characters of the game - Joel and Ellie. But in the first half of the sequel, Joel is brutally murdered by Abby, the daughter of a surgeon who planned to create a cure for a disease that destroyed the whole world. To do this, he wanted to perform an operation on Ellie, after which the girl would die. To prevent this, Joel killed all the doctors, including Abby's father, and saved Ellie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, It's a great game. Graphics are amazing, sounds are terrific, but repetitive. Game mechanics are well executed, but nothing groundbreaking.
The only problematic part is the story. They couldn't make you care for the characters as you did in the first game. Dina, Jesse, Owen, Mel? I could not care less for them. Abby is kinda likeable, but it feels really forced.(She also looks comical with the arms.)
The revenge of the revenge of the revenge is over the top too. The death of Joel can be justified, bur the way the writers have done it is dumb. They make Tommy and Joel look stupid when they give themselves out so easily to the wolfs. The PC part of the game also feels forced and sometimes unnecessary. They shove it in your face instead of enlifhtening on the steuggles of these characters.
The first game was so great because you loved the characters. You would kill for them. Part II just won't make this impulse on you, as it lacks such a great story and ending of that story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story is atrocious and completely destroys the game. The game pointlessly kills off Joel, the iconic hero and protagonist of the series, very early in the game, in a manner completely inconsistent with Joel's character. Appallingly, the game later forces you to play as his murderer, Abby, for almost half the game. Abby is an evil, sadistic monster who savors the prospect of slitting the throat of an innocent pregnant woman, and who also took immense pleasure in torturing and slaughtering Joel, after he was forced to kill Abby's father to prevent him from murdering innocent Ellie at the end of the first game. As if that wasn’t awful enough, at the end of the game Ellie is about to kill Abby to get justice for Joel, but then inexplicably lets Abby go for no reason - even after Abby bites off two of Ellie's fingers. The story is so bad it might as well have been written by a monkey on a typewriter. Expand

The game starts of okey, until we meet Abby. Abby is a terrible written character that we are forced to play with in order to kill off our beloved Joel. Big note; its fine to kill off a character, but in such a retarded meaningless way. Its makes 0 sense. The game should have given us backstory on Abbie so we would be able to feel for her and making this scene understandable. The moment in when Abby kills Joel this is all missing. Straight of the bat we hate this character and nothing what you will tell us will fix that. In part 1 when Joel killed the doctor's, that we could understand, because of the loss of his own daughter at the beginning and the bond he and Ellie grow to have. Ellie is his surrogate daughter. All this bonding makes part 1 so good and this is what was all missing in part 2. Storytelling, bonding, taking you on a journey of survival. This game was about non of that. The best moments in this game were the flashbacks of Joel and Ellie. I w

    #1. The game is gorgeous.
#2. The gameplay is solid if a bit out-dated.
#3. The story is erratic, I remember them saying on twitter that it was hate begets hate.

The story is erratic at best and fails to tell the story they want to tell. It's literally "Ellie lost everything in pursuit of revenge" while the new character got literally what she wanted. Joel is dead, but she lost some of her 'friends.' I guess that's the loss she had.

At worst the story is paper-thin.

My personal opinion is that they misused Joel entirely killing himself so early in the game.

I'm not particularly mad that he is dead. But the way it does it. They just wanted a shocking scene that no one was shocked by if you've had your head to the internet for any length of time where this game has been mentioned.

I honestly tried to distance myself from the spoilers, which I think I did admirably. I just didn't enjoy the game.

It's not a 1-4. It's a solid six on many levels, but I will not put it above that because of how erratic the storyline is.

Quite honestly anyone giving this game a 0 is just being ridiculous and petty. I get it, I loved the first one too and Ellie is a beloved character but c'mon guys. So much love was put into this game and other than the story, which I will get into in a minute, it's nearly flawless. The graphics are a 10, the sound design is a 10, the music is haunting, the voice acting is top notch...how can anyone possibly take a 0 score seriously? You don't like the story, fine, that's a valid opinion, but it's so childish to brigade the entire team at Naughty Dog because you disagree with the writers.
So as I said before, from a technical aspect this is among the best of this console generation and arguably toeing the line of the next. I am sure that there will be a PS5 edition that will blow us all away but I find it hard to criticize the quality of this game. Two minor nit-picks: Ellie's wet hair was too shiny to be believed and I was constantly jumping at the sound of my own footsteps at the barest touch of the stick.
The game play was also incredible but truly not much different then the first installment. Again, it's hard to find any fault in this area and would likely be attributed to my ineptitude anyway. I had fun throughout the entire game and played long stretches at a time until I finished up on the third day. I can count the number of games that keep me that engaged on one hand. It's fun and exciting and challenging enough on normal difficulty without being tedious.
Now, let's finally talk about the story. If I were to play this game without ever having played the first one and having an emotional connection to the characters going in, I probably would be just fine with it. Did it feel a bit heavy handed? Yes it did. Did that bother me? Not a bit. This is (obviously) a game about the futility of revenge, the ignorance of blind allegiance to a cause, and the real horror of violence. However, we all have played the first one or else we wouldn't be here right? I definitely had a problem with Ellie's moral decay. To an extent, I accepted the reasoning behind her rage but much like Dina's reactions as the game progressed, it became too much to understand. Eventually I grew to dislike her character and THAT was a huge disappointment as a fan of the first game. How could our beloved Ellie ever choose hate over love? WHY would you make her do that? This is almost certainly the crux of all the negative reviews.
If I take a step back from that glaring distraction, I will say that the protagonists were very interesting although maybe not as much as the cannibals from the first game. The Wolves were the stereotypical para-military group hungry for power, nothing too exciting. The Scars were pretty cool actually but I questioned their motivation as well, it seems like they had a pretty good thing going for them on their island. Would have liked to know more about them, especially the religion and their messiah. Maybe there is a DLC planned for this.
So, there ya have it. It's sole detractor is a big one and I would probably give it an 6 or 7 based on the that alone. It's a big story, and certainly engaging, but the way they did Ellie really let the fans down. However, the game as a whole is easily a solid 8.5 because of how well made it is; I rounded up to a 9 to offset the inflated (and undeserved) number of low scores. It's beautiful and horrible and punches you in the gut like you expect. The infected make your skin crawl and every basement I entered had my stomach in knots. I absolutely, unequivocally recommend it. You will be missing out if you listen to all the idiots down voting it like spoiled children.
